Valuing true masculinity

In light of the near-daily revelations about widespread homosexuality in the Catholic Church, including sexual abuse going back decades, I thought this recent video from PragerU was particularly appropriate ~

Rape, murder, war – all have one thing in common: Men. The solution seems simple: make men less toxic – make men less masculine. In this video, Allie Stuckey, Host of “Allie” on CRTV & “Relatable” podcast, explains why demonizing masculinity is not the solution, but the problem.

True masculinity isn’t toxic. It’s indispensible.

Saturday Shorts – 8-25-18

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Reality Winner Reveals Deep-State Rot ~ What she did was bad enough –(leaking classified data) but because she’s such an unapologetic, unhinged leftist, the fact that she was ever allowed anywhere near classified information is really troubling – and indicative of a much more unsettling problem ~

There is no greater threat to national security than an NSA run by unelected, wholly unaccountable zealots.

An underwater Irish canyon is sucking CO2 out of the atmosphere ~ Excellent! Climate change solved 🙂 ~ A mapping expedition from University College Cork (UCC) has discovered an interesting phenomenon at Porcupine Bank Canyon — a massive, cliff-walled underwater trench where Ireland’s continental shelf ends ~

Along the way, the researchers reported in a statement, they noted a process at the edge of the canyon that pulls CO2 from the atmosphere and buries it deep under the sea.

Of course the science reporter feels compelled to point out that this naturally-occurring activity is hardly enough to combat the evils of climate change (nothing ever will be). But it seems to me evidence that God, in His infinite wisdom, built mechanisms into all of creation to deal with any possible contingency.

Trump’s Rollback of CAFE Mandates Is a Big Win for Car Buyers, Consumer Choice ~ More welcome economic news the mainstreams won’t tell you about. CAFE standards were imposed when we thought we were running out of fossil fuels. We’re not ~

A 2016 Heritage Foundation analysis estimates the Obama fuel-economy mandates increased new-car prices $6,800 more than the pre-2009 baseline trend, and that eliminating the more aggressive standards would save 2025 car buyers at least $7,200 per vehicle […]

Consumers—not government bureaucrats—should make decisions about what cars they drive.

If consumers value saving money on gasoline, they will simply choose to purchase more fuel-efficient cars, and automakers will meet that demand without a federal mandate. If consumers value other attributes—vehicle weight, engine power, safety—Washington shouldn’t force automakers to ignore consumers’ preferences.

Emails Reveal High School Teachers Plotting To Hide Their Political Bias From Parents ~ Something to keep in mind as the kids head back to school; the teachers may not be on your side. Massachusetts H.S. principal calls for objectivity – history teachers (who oddly enough seem to have scant knowledge of actual history) “resist” ~

The Left is abusing American high school education in its struggle—not to do good, but to gain and retain political power. The ongoing trend of growing political intolerance and ideological bigotry among the newest American adults will continue, and nothing good will come of it. In the Soviet Union, I’ve seen what young people could be turned into, what I myself could be turned into. Trust me, America hasn’t seen anything yet.

Are We All Suffering From ADHD? ~ Is technology causing us to lose our ability to focus? (Yes! I just made three mistakes typing that last sentence! ) Dr. Michael Brown suggests it’s probably time for a break ~

Digital connectivity rules most of our lives. We are in constant communication with others via cell phone or tablet or computer. We live in a flood of texts and emails and updates and notifications. We have an endless stream of friends. We are linked to an ever-growing list of contacts. We are connected to a vast array of networks.

Illinois: Muslim leader says “Everything we represent goes in total contradiction to what the West represents” ~ Every once in a while they slip out of taqiyya mode, and we learn the truth ~

Speaking at Hizb-ut-Tahrir America’s annual Khilafa Conference, Ibn Thbait said that “we should be working within our own system, not democracy” and warned that “our children might prefer democracy to Islam.” “Can you imagine the Prophet of Allah standing alongside the LGBTQ community? Or with Pro-Choice? Or with… the Occupy movements?” […]

(W)hat we need to understand is that the battle between us and the West is an ideological battle… Everything we represent goes in total contradiction to what the West represents, because all of Islam is in opposition to secularism.

All of which begs the question, why are they here?

‘Big One’ talk swirls as 69 massive earthquakes hit the Pacific’s Ring of Fire in 48 hours ~ Hurricane Lane may not be the only threat facing Hawaii ~

Sixty-nine earthquakes, including 16 tremors registering 4.5 or above on the Richter scale, recently hit the area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), which recorded the events but did not issue a warning […]

The Ring of Fire is a 25,000 mile horseshoe-shaped ring, accounting for approximately 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes, according to the USGS.

The region also contains 452 volcanoes, more than 75 percent of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes.

Another Greenie Bites the Dust. Aussie PM Forced out by Climate Policy ~ A promising development but, as James Delingpole points out, just a first step in the logical direction ~

Green energy has been a disaster for parts of Australia, notably in the state of South Australia which was brought to its knees by the policies of its environmentalist Labor government. Its drive towards 40 percent renewables led to blackouts and brownouts across the state, which hammered industry and smaller consumers alike. Eventually, the government was booted out by disgusted voters.

New HHS Documents Reveal that ‘Unaccompanied Alien Children’ Processed During Obama Years Included Violent Criminals, Drug Smugglers, and Human Traffickers ~ The mainstreams kind of missed all this during the halcyon years of BHO ~

“The Obama administration presided over a humanitarian and public safety nightmare in its handling of ‘unaccompanied alien children,’” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The incident reports also support the Trump administration’s contention that the UAC crisis, which continues, includes murderers, rapists, drug smugglers and human traffickers being routinely allowed into the United States.”

Welfare Ban for Immigrants Would ‘Help Out the American Taxpayer’ ~ President Trump has proposed a plan to keep foreign nationals who rely on welfare from permanently resettling in the U.S.. After all, where is it written that America is supposed to be the world’s welfare state? ~

“This isn’t some radical new change,” (RJ Hauman with the Federation for American Immigration Reform [FAIR]) said. “Public charge doctrine has existed in the country since 1882, the Immigration Act of 1882, which gave the government the ability to restrict entry of any person who is unable to take care of themselves without becoming a public charge.” […]

Such a plan would be a boon for American taxpayers, who currently spend about $57.4 billion a year on paying for the welfare, crime, and schooling costs of the country’s mass importation of 1.5 million new, mostly low skilled legal immigrants every year.

95% of plastic in oceans comes from just ten rivers ~ All those rivers are in Asia and Africa. Sorry California, your authoritarian plastic straw ban is futile.

Social Media Titans Holding Private Meeting To Coordinate Strategy For 2018 Midterms ~ To “coordinate strategy” for shutting up anyone who disagrees with them! This doesn’t infringe on our First Amendment rights at all does it? ~

If the coordinated takedown of Alex Jones, Infowars and those in his orbit is a taste of what’s to come, along with the aggressive “shadow bans” and “strikes” which are automatically triggered when activist groups swarm targeted accounts with complaints, it’s clear that regardless of what Jack Dorsey (Twitter’s CEO) claims – there is a clear mechanism for mass censorship of political opinions which is disproportionately punishing conservatives.

Oprah Winfrey Faces Huge Backlash After Promoting Campaign for Women Celebrating Their Abortions ~ Glad to see her fans haven’t drifted quite as far to the Left as she has ~

Aside from the most radical abortion supporters, most Americans do not think abortions are good or worth celebrating. Polls consistently find that most Americans oppose most abortions, and more think abortions are morally wrong than morally acceptable.

Oprah’s position is sad. Not just on the face of it, but because, as a single, childless woman, and someone who seems basically decent, it seems likely that she would truly have regrets about what might have been. 🙁

Drug smuggler goes from heroin to Bibles

While I was trying to find more information about the Central Asian country of Tajikistan for my post about the American couple murdered by ISIS, I came across this inspiring story from Open Doors* ~ He Used to Traffic Heroin in Central Asia, Now He Smuggles Bibles.’

ViktorsBible“Viktor” (the alias that Open Doors uses for the central figure in the article) was once a successful drug runner operating in and around Tajikistan, Afghanistan, etc. His luck ran out in 1996 when he was apprehended with almost nine pounds of heroin, arrested and imprisoned.

Victor’s subsequent journey from drug smuggler to Christian pastor is a powerful witness to the transformative power of the gospel ~

In jail, Viktor’s life took a turn for the worst. As his sentence wore on, Viktor grew suicidal. He describes how his state of mind deteriorated:

“I felt empty inside and did not want to live anymore. I did not know how long I would be in jail.”

Viktor’s daily life in confinement continued to burden him until the day his cellmate received a package from his mom. It was the Gospel of John, which his friend offered to Viktor.

At first, he didn’t touch the book. But as he continued to struggle, after 10 nights of poor sleep, Viktor finally picked up the book and began to flip through it.

Initially, the Bible made little sense to Viktor.

Eventually, many sleepless nights led him to spend more time with the book ~

As he read, Viktor began to feel God’s presence. He didn’t know about prayer; still, he called out to Jesus.

“’You know I am not sure that you exist, but I want eternal life and I want to be born again.’ I continued reading in the Bible alone in my cell with no Christians around. It was just me and the book.”

When fellow prisoners later tried to smuggle him a package of drugs, Viktor refused it.

“Looking at the drugs, I knew that they would drive me insane. ‘This is death!’ I said. I made the decision to choose life and sent the drugs back.”

Changed completely by the grace of God, when Viktor was released from prison he enrolled in a seminary Bible college ~

During his studies, he started to work among drug addicts in a rehab center and began sharing the Word of God with them.

Today, he is the pastor of a very special church in Central Asia. His church can’t be formally registered, so it does a lot of its work in a barn filled with animal feed. Thanks to Open Doors support, Viktor is able to sustain himself and his ministry by selling blocks of salt for cows and grain and rice for chickens, while he also secretly stores resources and materials needed for evangelism. Where he lives, Bibles and Christian literature are illegal.

In our materialistic world, the very fact that heroin is illegal makes it an extremely valuable commodity. In Central Asia, Bibles are also quite rare and difficult to acquire – for the same reason. But a transformed life, and the promise of eternity with our blessed Redeemer? Priceless.

Read the entire article about Viktor’s journey HERE.

Open Doors* was founded by Brother Andrew who began his own ministry by smuggling Bibles – behind the Iron Curtain. An amazing story!

Covering up for the Religion-of-Peace?

New Mexico Jihad Compound Mysteriously Destroyed By Authorities ~ Seriously? Not only have the Muslim perpetrators of this shocking child abuse case (remember, one of the young boys is dead!) been freed on a signature bond (meaning they didn’t have cough up any $$ 😯 ), the story has somehow ceased to be newsworthy, and now the evidence is being disappeared before the trial even begins ~
Abdul-ghani-Wahha

NBC News reports that police seized an RV where eleven children and five adults lived in what was described as squalor, while also bulldozing the entrance to an underground tunnel where authorities found the decomposing body of three-year-old Abdul-ghani Wahha – placed there by the suspects in the hopes that he would resurrect as Jesus and use his psychic powers to help the group target “corrupt institutions and people” with “violent actions.”

Ammo and a bulletproof vest were discovered at the scene after the camp was broken down.

Don’t be surprised if this video from NBC Nightly News
is disappeared at some point as well

Pardon me, but what the hell is going on here?

In the wake of this lawless ruling, Taos District Court Judge Sarah Backus has actually received death threats from several unhinged individuals. Clearly that disturbing behavior is inexcusable under any circumstances. But it does illustrate the extremely biased nature of her decision.

Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign manager, was swat-teamed at home in the middle of the night, held in solitary confinement for weeks, his trial given wall-to-wall media coverage, for tax evasion. Isn’t killing someone a bit more serious than not paying your taxes?

America is rapidly devolving from a country where justice is blind and all are equal before the law, to a judicial oligarchy – with the Left in charge. Somehow progressives (who obviously include Muslim apologists) include feel entitled to force their ideology on the rest of us through the court system. Anyone on their side gets a pass. The rest of us are screwed.

When your worldview doesn’t conform to reality

UNPLEASANT FACT: Reality always wins in the end.

We can all believe whatever we choose to about the world we inhabit. Our personal views of ourselves, of our fellow humans and the rest of creation can be totally subjective. But if we hope for a well-adjusted, productive, contented life, it’s only reasonable that we base those beliefs on observable, historic realities. Trying to function with a worldview that doesn’t actually correspond to the world – well, you’ll eventually be disappointed, depressed, despairing – or worse.

surreality
For example, you can insist it’s not pouring raining outside. But that won’t stop you from getting soaked if you go out without an umbrella. You may believe you can fly, but step off a 20 story building and you’ll quickly learn otherwise. You can be a female and feel like a male, but your XX genes know the truth.

And, as one young couple recently discovered much too late, your worldview to the contrary, evil really does exist ~ Couple out to disprove ‘evil’ killed by ISIS ~

An American couple decided to bicycle around the world in an attempt to prove evil does not exist. They chose to bicycle through ISIS territory and ISIS killed them […]

Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan left their D.C. government jobs nearly two years ago to embark on a worldwide bike tour. The wide-eyed, optimistic couple kept track of their trips on a website where they posted stunning photos of their travels and whimsical musings on evil, the media and the goodness of people.

Evil-in-Tajikistan
Located in Central Asia, Tajikistan is ranked 22nd on Open Doors’ World Watch List; countries where Christians face various levels of hostilities and persecution. Officially a presidential republic, the country is essentially an Islamic theocracy ~

In Tajikistan, no religious activities outside of state-run and state-controlled institutions are allowed. Government officials are the main driver of Christian persecution in the country, and since 2015 have significantly stepped up their persecution. Because all Protestants are suspected of being spies intent on destroying the country’s political system, the government is intent on controlling and eradicating their presence completely. There is almost no tolerance of religious education, and church registration is restricted by stringent administrative barriers. All Christian activity is heavily monitored […]

As in many other (Muslim) countries, converts from Islam in Tajikistan experience the worst persecution, perpetrated by family, friends and their local communities. They face extreme pressure to recant their Christian faith, sometimes even resulting in beatings and house arrest. This is in addition to Christian persecution from the government. Baptist, Evangelical and Pentecostal Christians suffer from raids, threats, arrests and fines from the government, as well.

Furthermore, Tajikistan is adjacent to Afghanistan and Pakistan, both ISIS havens. It’s highly likely the terrorist group has established a presence in that country as well. So Tajikistan is not exactly a tourist mecca.

But apparently Jay and Lauren weren’t deterred. In one of his last posts, just before entering Tajikistan Jay wrote ~

You watch the news and you read the papers, and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place. People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil. People are axe murderers and monsters and worse.

I don’t buy it. Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own—it’s easier to dismiss an opinion as abhorrent than strive to understand it. Badness exists, sure, but even that’s quite rare. By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind. No greater revelation has come from our journey than this.

Unfortunately, the couple encountered some folks who weren’t just self-interested, they were pure Evil ~

On July 29th, a car driven by the ISIS members rammed the bikers. The men exited the van and began stabbing the bikers, killing Austin and Geoghegan, along with the other bikers.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a video featuring the killers posing with an ISIS flag and pledging allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. According to the New York Times, the men vowed to kill the “disbelievers.”

The world is a better place for optimistic idealists like this young couple. They do give us hope, always looking on the bright side, encouraging us to find the good in everyone.

But no amount of cheerful optimism can alter the reality that Evil that really does exist in the world. Much as we’d like to, we can’t wish it away. Instead we must face it unflinchingly, and courageously stand against it.

Meanwhile, in another part of the world…

The Burmese government is covering up genocide of a Muslim ethnic minority
(And the mainstreams are much too focused on the tax evasion trial of some shady billionaire who worked on Donald Trump’s campaign to care. Probably because our previous president, Nobel prize winner Barack Hussein Obama, bears some considerable responsibility for the tragedy) ~

The Rohingya people of Burma are being murdered, their women raped, and their homes destroyed by a Burmese military emboldened by an unconscionable diplomatic pass from the Obama Administration.

myannar-mapWriting at Townhall, Kerri Toloczko provides some background on the crisis ~

Burma (also called “Myanmar” after a 1960s military coup) is in Southeast Asia, wedged between Bangladesh, China and Thailand […]

For over 50 years, the Burmese military has carried out systematic ethnic cleansing against many of the county’s 135 minorities, and the Buddhist nationalism they promote has led to the suffering of the Muslim Rohingya “on a scale we couldn’t imagine” according to Doctors Without Borders. The junta that essentially controls the 90% Buddhist nation does not look kindly on Christian relief organizations either, so the few operating in Burma do so in secret.

Unfortunately for the freedom-loving people of the world, Barack Obama had a disturbing affinity for tyrants. His progressive ideology put him on the wrong side of most international affairs during his tenure (see Cuba, Iran, Israel, Libya, Turkey, Venezuela, Christian genocide in Syria and Iraq, etc.). His administration’s diplomatic relations with Burma/Myanmar have proven disastrous for that country, especially for the Rohingya.

From officially referring to the country by the name (“Myanmar”) that the current military ruling class chose when they seized control of the country, to agreeing to a relaxation of sanctions – that had been imposed by the international community in 2003 for human rights violations – Obama once again sided with bullies, against the advocates of democracy.

As Toloczko relates ~

In 2009, Secretary Clinton opened a Pandora’s Box by initiating a dialogue with the junta. In the following seven years, each relaxation of sanctions by the U.S. was followed directly, and immediately, with an increase in atrocities.

After Clinton announced the 2009 discussions with Burma, the first roundup of Rohingya occurred in their capital city when over 100,000 were sent to government concentration camps where they linger still, dying of starvation.

When President Obama removed U.S./Burma investment restrictions in July of 2012, the junta immediately closed all Rohingya mosques.

Two weeks after the Obama State Department reinstated financial aid to Burma, new satellite images showed full-scale destruction of Rohingya towns.

Were Clinton and her boss oblivious to the effect they actions were having? Or did they just not give a damn?

Rohingya1
Obama’s 2012 trip to Burma featured his tedious, noble-sounding, empty rhetoric ~

“I am not somebody who thinks that the United States should just stand on the sidelines and not want to get its hands dirty when there is an opportunity for us to encourage the better impulses inside the country,” said President Obama, according to a report in the AFP.

Yeah, right. So much for “better impulses” ~

Full scale murder and ethnic cleansing has been ongoing since August 2017, shortly after Obama freed up Burmese imports and did the unthinkable —gave Burma a waiver negating its child soldier abuse designation.

In providing the Burmese government a genocide gift card with unlimited spending, the previous administration contributed to a humanitarian crisis that the Trump administration is now left to “fix” as best it can.

There are over a million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and about 600K more hiding inside Burma. They are homeless, hungry and without clean water or medical care. There are 40K orphans.

So now we have to try and clean up BHO’s mess ~ Trump administration walking back Obama-era foreign policy mistakes in Burma ~

On Friday (8-17-18), the Treasury Department announced it has imposed economic sanctions on four Burmese military and border guard commanders, and two military units, over their apparent role in “ethnic cleansing” and “widespread human rights abuses” against ethnic minority groups.

According to this report the state department will take further action to alleviate the ongoing persecution ~

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected in the coming days to release a comprehensive report that may go as far as to label the actions of the Burmese forces against the Rohingya as “genocide.” That would be a significant step above the “ethnic cleansing” classification, which has little substance in international law, and would require the U.S to take significant steps to “prevent and punish” those responsible.

Several international aid organizations have been active in the country as well, working to help save the lives of the Rohingya. Toloczko reports on the courageous efforts of the Free Burma Rangers ~

Free Burma Rangers was started 20 years ago by former U.S. Special Forces operator Dave Eubank. Eubank was called to the mission field after his Army retirement, then guided to Burma by his father, a long-time mission pastor in Thailand. Also serving in Iraq and Sudan, FBR pulls talent from wherever Eubank finds it to serve the suffering. Although rooted in Christian service, FBR creates multi-ethnic, multi-faith teams to train young people in oppressed minorities to help their communities by learning U.S. Army-style emergency medicine and survival skills through its “Jungle School of Medicine.”

In Burma, it also teaches persecuted people how to hide from the military.

Leaders and trainees with FBR show astounding courage in the most dangerous places on earth.

Thank God for men like Dave Eubank, Mike Pompeo – and Donald Trump. These are men who refuse to look the other way in the face of injustice and tyranny. Pray that they’re successful in ending the tragic persecution of the Rohingya and other Burmese ethic minorities.

It’s so painfully obvious that Leftists, for all their phony compassion, only concern themselves with the suffering of innocent people to the extent they can advantage the situation to further their agenda. Witness the callous mainstream media who – instead of reporting on this ongoing genocide (which their hero Obama enabled) – would rather focus on some bogus guilt-by-association charges, obsessed with bringing down an administration that is actually trying to alleviate human suffering.

REPORT: Myanmar Military Intricately Planned Genocide of the Rohingya People ~

A 160-page report conducted by the human rights organization Fortify Rights provides evidence that suggests the Myanmar military is guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity […]

Focusing on events leading up to the attacks on hundreds of Rohingya villages in Myanmar’s Northern Rakhine state last August, the report explains how government authorities trained local civilians to attack the Rohingya, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority in the predominantly Buddhist country. The violence sparked a mass exodus of over 700,000 refugees to neighboring Bangladesh, a level of forced migration that hasn’t been seen since the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

With world’s attention on Rohingya Muslims, Christians in Burma also face brutal persecution ~

The campaign against the Christians, which according to estimates has displaced at least 100,000 people, has also left thousands stranded in the Burmese jungle terrain, either from fleeing heavy bombing, or living in fear of what will come when the current monsoon season ends.

“Christianity is under direct attack by the Burma Army. Christians have repeatedly been singled out for rape, torture, and death over the course of this war, and that trend is continuing,” Ephraim Mattos, East Asia Operations Manager for The Nazarene Fund (TNF), a humanitarian group that works to support the plight of Christians worldwide, told Fox News. “In Burma, if you don’t fall into the category of being Buddhist and ethnic Burmese, then you are considered second-class, and not worthy of the full rights of a citizen.”

Obama – “Legend hero of our world” ~ Nearly six years ago Barack Hussein Obama visited Burma/Myanmar on his 2012 Heal-the-Planet Tour

Up-dated: 8-27-18

Added:
Burma/Myanmar is 24th on Open Doors’ World Watch List ~

In Myanmar, Buddhist leaders instigate Christian persecution in predominantly Buddhist communities. Radical Buddhist movement Ma Ba Tha hails itself as the protector of Buddhism, the country’s national religion. Recently, Ma Ba Tha was banned but is expected to continue its activities regardless. Local government officials, especially those in rural areas, show bias towards Buddhist leaders. This means that Christians, who often happen to be both religious and ethnic minorities, are often discriminated against. Christians who come from Buddhist, Muslim and tribal families experience this persecution within the home because family and community see their conversion as betrayal.

Enforce our borders – now!

Here we go again. Another innocent young woman murdered – by another illegal alien ~ Mollie Tibbetts murder suspect Cristhian Rivera originally from Mexico, living in US illegally ~
MollieTibbetts

The suspect in the murder of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts is a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who had been living in the area for up to seven years, officials revealed Tuesday.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera was apprehended more than a month after the 20-year-old University of Iowa student disappeared, Rick Rahn, special agent in charge with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said during a news conference. Tibbetts was last seen jogging on July 18 near Brooklyn, Iowa — in Poweshiek County, where Rivera lives.

A body believed to be Mollie Tibbetts was discovered earlier Tuesday and Rivera led authorities to the location, Rahn said, adding that her body was found hidden in a corn field beneath several corn stalks.

This tragedy follows on the heels of the mainstreams’ featured agit-prop story last weekend, in which they attempted to paint ICE as heartless villains: Media Omit Key Detail About ICE Arresting Man Who Took Wife To Hospital For C-Section ~

On Saturday, dozens of media outlets reported that federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested an illegal alien who was taking his wife to the hospital to deliver their baby — but they conveniently left out one key detail: the man was a wanted murder suspect.

One of the only media outlets to report that Arrona-Lara was a murder suspect in the title and in the report was NBC News, which reported that ICE specifically noted that Arrona-Lara was arrested because of an “outstanding warrant issued for his arrest in Mexico on homicide charges.”

How many of the mainstream news outlets – if they report on Mollie’s murder at all – will mention the fact that her killer was an illegal? (I already heard one announcer use the disingenuous term “undocumented immigrant” to refer to Rivera.)

Whose country is this? Mollie’s! Not Rivera’s! We need to enforce our national sovereignty NOW.

Here’s Michelle Malkin, on Fox & Friends a couple months ago, making the case for comprehensive immigration reform ~

At the very least we need to ~

• Build the wall
• End chain migration
• Mandate E-Verify (Think about this: Mollie Tibbetts’ murderer has actually been working for a local dairy farm for four years. Because E-verify would have required his employer to check his immigration status, he probably would have been deported, and Mollie would still be alive.)

Unholy clergy; betrayal of the innocents

churchtwilightUgh. Reading the new revelations about the decades-long sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, I have to skip all the horrifying details after the first wave of nausea hits. Dear God, these men were monsters.

Is there really any worse sin than violating the trust of a child, destroying their innocence, emotionally crippling them for life – merely to sate your own sick, twisted desires?

According to the just-released grand jury report, the scope of the abuse is staggering; they turned up some 300 abusive priests and more than 1,000 victims. And that’s just in Pennsylvania! As John Zmirak quipped, makes you wonder about the other 49 states, doesn’t it? Indeed.

Even more tragic, it’s the church’s own willful blindness that amplified the wickedness by several magnitudes. John Daniel Davidson, writing about this nightmare at The Federalist, makes the point that the enablers share considerable guilt ~

Then there is the insidious evil of the bishops who covered up this abuse. The bishop in the Diocese of Erie who, despite a priest’s admission that he had assaulted at least a dozen boys, wrote to thank him for “all you have done for God’s people … The Lord, who sees in private, will reward.” Or the bishop in Scranton, writing to the priest who had arranged for an abortion for his victim, “This is a very difficult time in your life, and I realize how upset you are. I too share your grief.”

Evil upon evil.

Beyond the incalculable, psychological damage done to the victims themselves there will be an inevitable church-wide fallout. This whole sordid mess will have a corrosive effect, not just on the Roman Catholic Church (and by the way, Protestants aren’t exactly immune to these evil acts), but I believe, on the entire Christian Church – all denominations.

While this wickedness is diabolical – emphatically not of Jesus Christ – these men are supposed to be His representatives on earth. Instead they’ve betrayed the children in their care, their vows, their God. These are grave transgressions, as Davidson explains ~

This is not what one expects from the successors to the apostles, from men who are “living instruments of Christ the eternal priest,” in the words of Vatican II. A Catholic priest is not a religious bureaucrat authorized to conduct church business, but a living icon of Christ himself, one who stands in persona Christi, “in the person of Christ,” making Christ physically present in the church.

Bishops are both priests and overseers of the local parishes for which they are responsible. They are the shepherds, the protectors, and they have manifestly failed.

Back in 2002 when many of these scandals first surfaced, tens of thousands of Catholics fled the church in disgust. Others just stopped attending mass entirely. How many more will leave now – their faith completely shattered? And how many other marginal Christians of other denominations will also walk away, unable to disassociate the grievously, sinful men from an all-loving, ever-faithful God.

This is not His doing. This, as Davidson points out, is all on the shepherds, for leading the flock astray ~

The crisis did not arise from the teachings of the Catholic Church, it arose from the abandonment of those teachings by a faction of U.S. priests, bishops, and theologians amid the ferment of the sexual revolution in the 1960s and ‘70s.

The crisis is one of fidelity to the word of God. And while it will have done lasting damage, ultimately the one true Church of Jesus Christ will prevail – long after these evil men are rotting in hell.

In the face of horror, the Catholic Church is worried about PR ~ From the NYPost ~

The most painful aspect of all this is the blasé response of many American hierarchs and especially those, like Washington Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl, who are implicated in the report. Wuerl and his colleagues have treated the report as a PR headache rather than a moral and spiritual wake-up call. They have acted like corporate reputation managers rather than successors to the Apostles. Instead of venting prophetic anger, they’ve taken refuge behind flacks.

Trump stands up to Turkey’s tyranny

obama&erdogan3Wow. When did we ever see our previous president – you know, the self-professed “Christian” one – get tough with an Islamic dictator? Better yet, when did we ever hear him speak up in defense of any Christians? Yeah, Mr. Genuine.

That’s why it’s so awesome to see that Donald Trump is afraid to do neither! ~ Trump on US pastor jailed in Turkey: ‘We will pay nothing for the release of an innocent man’ ~

Fox News reported on the president’s remarks last Friday ~

“I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar! Aluminum will now be 20% and Steel 50%,” Trump tweeted Friday. “Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!”

The Turkish lira weakened in value from 4.7 on the dollar to 6.4 on the dollar Friday, for the first time in history breaking the 6 mark […]

The Trump administration has threatened more sanctions if Turkey does not release Brunson.

PastorBrunson-drawing-smlrI’ve been blogging about Pastor Brunson for months now (Here, here and here). Although he was finally allowed to leave the miserable prison he’d been confined to last month, he’s still under house arrest. It’s now been almost two years since he was first detained (Oct. 7, 2016).

Initially, I was worried that Trump didn’t quite realize what Erdoğan was up to – that is, ruthlessly trying to reconstitute an Islamic caliphate. But the president must have read my 4-20-17 post 😀 But he certainly has no illusions now ~

With Turkey’s economy already in a downward spiral, the president’s treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin, announced more financial pressure is on the way if Turkey doesn’t release Pastor Brunson.

“As you know, we were very clear with our counterparts there, both Secretary (Mike) Pompeo and myself, on the release of the pastor. We’ve put sanctions on several of the cabinet members. Working with you, we have more that we’re planning to do if they don’t release him quickly,” Mnuchin told the president.

According to Business Insider, Turkey’s president threatened a major blow to the US — but Trump looks to have called his bluff ~

But with the US economy doing well and Turkey’s economy and prospects quickly tanking, Erdogan has little room to maneuver. He has plenty of reason to wish for mercy from the US, but little reason to expect it unless it falls in line with the US’s calls to release Brunson and drop the Russian missiles.

Let’s pray they’re right.

Saturday Shorts – 8-18-18

sshorts6-18-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Psychologists warn ‘Trump Anxiety Disorder’ is soaring ~ Unemployment is way down, the economy is booming, the ISIS threat in minimized, the world is a safer place… and the drones are losing it. On the one hand, it’s pretty humorous. On the other – these low-information folks are a smoldering powder keg. Who knows when they may blow?

Mental health professionals at the American Psychological Association (APA) revealed in its Stress in America: Coping with Change report that it has the numbers to prove that Trump is driving the nation into a mental crisis.

Comedy Threatens Liberalism So Liberals Want To Kill It ~ Kurt Schlichter explains how the Left’s intolerance has sucked all the humor out of entertainment ~

Back when comedy was funny, before it got woke, the left used to use it to undermine traditional culture. Now that they have the wheel of the cultural car, they are afraid that people pointing and giggling at their hypocrisy, venality, and stupidity will make them lose control and crash.

Australian university cancels speech by major critic of transgenderism ~ The campus thought police are actively suppressing free speech in Oz also ~

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has canceled a speech by a prominent critic of transgenderism just days after admitting that canceling the speech would set a negative precedent for academic debate.

The rise of Climate superstition: Droughts, heatwaves, random noise is “proof” of anything you like ~ JoNova points out how, by cherry-picking facts, climatists can make any particular weather phenomenon, no matter how brief, fit their pet theory ~

Now, thanks to the discovery of Unscience, any noisy, random short data is fair game to be declared undeniable climate change […]

In terms of scientific data analysis we don’t get that many droughts or six-day-August-heatwaves to analyze. They’re complex phenomena caused by multiple factors and we only have short records. This makes them ideal to be oversold to hapless folk as a “sign” of climate change.

Italy to restore ‘mother…father’ on website forms, replacing ‘parent 1…parent 2’ ~ Execellent, a return to sanity ~

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Catholic Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, appears to be fighting to reestablish the prestige of the natural family while taking a swing at gender ideology.

Europe needs more leaders like this guy ~

Commenting on an attack from the Famiglia Cristiana magazine, which likened him to Satan for his hard-nosed approach to illegal migration, Salvini told La Nuova Bussola Quotidiano that many Catholic laity, priests and bishops have encouraged him to continue in that direction. “The best antidote to racism is migration under control,” he said.

Police raid addresses in Nottingham and Birmingham over Westminster ‘terror attack’: British suspect who WAS known to officers but not MI5 ‘used a Ford Fiesta bought two months ago to mow down 15 cyclists’ ~ More vehicular jihad in Londonistan. Fortunately no one was killed… this time.

Meanwhile, in Scandinavia ~ Sweden: Masked “youths” rampage in no-go zones, torch 100 cars, “extremely organized,” “like a military operation” ~ Muslim riots air-brushed out of most mainstream news ~

“Youths” is a frequent establishment media euphemism for Muslims. If they were in Britain, they’d be “Asians.”

This is indeed a military operation. It is part of the jihad to bring down the Swedish state and replace it with an Islamic government […]

Shocking video of fire engulfing numerous vehicles in Gothenburg spread on social media Monday evening with other footage clearly showing masked people in dark clothing intentionally lighting the blazes.

Reporter Catches CNN Attempting to Lie About Kermit Gosnell and Abortion ~ A new feature film about the abortionist/ murderer, “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer” is scheduled for release in October. The mainstreams didn’t cover the shocking story when it unfolded back in 2013 and it looks like they’re determined to ignore the movie as well.

Food Donated To Puerto Rico Hurricane Victims Found Rotting In Parking Lot ~ But the bungled relief efforts after last September’s Hurricane Maria were all Trump’s fault? ~

Ten shipping containers filled with food, baby products, and over-the-counter medications like Tylenol — all supplies desperately needed in the days and weeks following Hurricane Maria — were found rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot last week, never distributed […]

The items, Radio Isla reports, were all private donations made by non-profits. Those items were “collected at the election commissions offices, and then distributed to the National Guard,” who gave the items to struggling residents. After the crisis subsided, though, Puerto Rico’s government officials apparently gave up on distributing supplies and left them rotting, still in their trailers, just outside their offices in San Juan.

Hospital staff offer euthanasia to incurable Canadian man who wants to live ~ It’s the tragedy many of us warned about: Euthanasia + nationalized health care = death panels ~

“It is the real truth of what is going on in Canada regarding so many assisted deaths without appropriate safeguards, in combination with the lack of necessary care that is not being provided to persons who are suffering,” Foley says.

Massachusetts Republican beats trans driver’s license bill by forcing votes on all 73 genders ~ A creative solution to the trans-insanity. The Massachusetts senate approved legislation adding a “Gender X” option to driver’s licenses. Republican Rep. Jim Lyons foiled them in the state house by pushing their nonsense to its logical conclusion ~

“Since all Democrats must admit that the number of genders is endless, how dare the commonwealth lump all the new genders together as ‘Gender X’?” Carr writes, summarizing Lyons’ facetious reasoning. “Every gender, he declared, must be listed on Massachusetts driver’s licenses! That was Lyons’ non-negotiable demand. No justice, no peace” […]

Knowing that his liberal colleagues couldn’t rule any of the genders out of order without undermining the logic of transgender ideology, Lyons introduced each as a separate amendment to the bill the evening of July 31, each requiring 10 minutes of debate and three minutes to vote on.

Eventually they ran out of time; the bill was dropped. Common sense can prevail – even in dark blue states.

Aimless fighting in Afghanistan — while we bring Afghanistan to our shores ~ Daniel Horowitz at Conservative Review explains the futility of wasting lives and resources on a foreign quagmire ~

Here’s a novel idea: What if we focused on our own borders, stopped self-destructing through our front-door immigration policies, busted up terror financing networks globally and domestically, and disrupted the Muslim Brotherhood and other radical networks operating here at home?

Unlike China, Russia, North Korea, and potentially Iran, nothing that happens in these Sunni hellholes – from Somalia, Yemen, Niger, and Mali to Syria and Afghanistan – can harm us … unless we bring them to our country, as we did for years and are increasingly doing now. Yet our endless and aimless missions, chasing our tails in their sand dunes at a cost of trillions of dollars and thousands of precious U.S. lives, have depleted our resources and our resolve to deal with those who truly pose a conventional threat to our homeland, now or in the future.

The Constitutional Right to a Security Clearance ~ Mark Steyn’s take on the Left’s misplaced outrage over John Brennan’s divestment (w/video) ~

Brennan, a man psychologically unfit to be either CIA director or “former CIA director”, is now the darling of the left – the people’s spook, on whose behalf Senator Blumenthal is arguing that America’s founders had cannily foreseen the need for a security clearance.

‘It’s God. It’s All God’: Building Relationships and Sharing Christ in Predominantly Muslim Dearborn ~ Some very encouraging news that I had to learn about from CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) even though we’re only 20 miles away from Dearborn, MI ~

The church sits less than 10 minutes away from the Islamic Center of America, in the heart of a neighborhood that’s 97 percent Muslim.

“Jesus said, ‘I want you here.’ So we’re here,” Hancock said. “And what better place in the whole wide world to find people that don’t know Jesus, that need him and need what Jesus has to offer.”

LGBTQwhatever radicals just NEVER relent

jackPhillips-smlrIn its June decision on Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, the Supreme Court ruled in the bakery’s favor, saying that the “Commission’s hostility was inconsistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee that our laws be applied in a manner that is neutral toward religion.”

Shortly after that victory, I posted an epilogue piece on the Masterpiece story. Owner Jack Phillips was grateful and relieved that the vindictive lawsuit against his bakery had finally been settled and was looking forward to having his normal life back… Well – not so fast, say the merciless progressives in Denver.

Now it’s important to note that it wasn’t actually the original homosexual customers who sued Masterpiece; they just apparently went elsewhere for their “wedding” cake. It was the state of Colorado who decided, in totalitarian fashion, that they would decide what Jack would and wouldn’t do. And now they’re at it again.

Alliance Defending Freedom handled Jack’s case the first time, and they’re back in this new battle as well ~

Despite the Supreme Court ruling in his favor, Colorado cake artist faces new threats ~
The same day that the Supreme Court announced that it would hear Jack’s case in the summer of 2017, local attorney Autumn Scardina called Jack’s shop and requested a blue-and-pink cake celebrating a gender transition.

While Jack serves every person who walks through the door of Masterpiece Cakeshop, he cannot use his artistic talents to celebrate every event or express every message. That was true in the Masterpiece case, and it’s still true now.

But that has never been enough for the State of Colorado.

This time around ADF is going on the offensive and suing the state on Jack’s behalf ~

Colorado’s anti-Christian hostility is showing itself yet again. The state has doubled down on its unconstitutional effort to punish people of faith. Jack just wants his life back. For six years, he fought for the right to run his business consistently with his faith. And just when he thought it was possible to go back to normal, the government is threatening him again.

In this video from CBN Jack and his attorney speak with about the latest assault on his First Amendment rights ~

Unfortunately, as I predicted back in June after the SCOTUS ruling ~

Usually when progressives are faced with something they perceive as a setback to their radical ideological agenda – like this SCOTUS decision – they double-down on the vitriol, hate and deceit. So we should brace for renewed attacks. And let’s keep praying!

Clearly Jack and his family still need our prayers! You can also sign a statement of support – and contribute to the cause HERE.

The case for capital punishment

Pope Francis recently revised the Catechism of Catholic Church with regard to the issue of capital punishment. In direct opposition to 2000 years of doctrinal teaching, he’s suddenly come to the conclusion that ~

“(T)he death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.”

I’m pretty sure Francis didn’t run this one by God, since He had this to say on the matter, way back in Genesis ~

“Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed:
for in the image of God made He man.”
~ Genesis 9:6

It’s called accountability. Why should the perpetrator of a viscous, cold-blooded murder get to keep his life after callously taking that of another? Not executing him cheapens the life that he took ~

[Video via PragerU, an organization that presents rational opinions on various issues in a thought-proving, reasonable fashion. For some unfathomable reason, the YouTube thought police have decided this is one of the PragerU videos that should be “restricted.” So even though the death penalty is allowed in 31 states, supporting capital punishment is somehow controversial?]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the wake of the pope’s misguided proclamation, a couple sources have interviewed Prof. Edward Feser, co-author of By Man Shall His Blood Be Shed: A Catholic Defense of Capital Punishment. He had this to say on the subject to LifeSite News ~
Scripture is very clear that one can lose the right to life through murder; there is a difference between protecting the right to life of the innocent and that of the guilty, just as there is a difference between unjustly depriving the innocent of their freedom and justly locking up the guilty in prison […]
Killing in self-defense or killing a vicious murderer has absolutely no relationship to this prohibition of intentionally killing the innocent (abortion), and the Church has always understood and taught this.
75 clergy, scholars appeal to Cardinals: Urge Francis to ‘withdraw’ death penalty teaching ~
The petition does not insist that capital punishment must always be used in practice for the worst crimes, since this is a matter which Catholics may freely debate. Rather, it insists on the legitimacy of the death penalty in principle, as consistent with sacred scripture and the constant magisterium of the Church for over 2,000 years.
