Another socialism fail; Ortega makes a mess of Nicaragua

“It’s strange how efforts to create a socialist paradise often seem to end with a
tyrant looking to hang on to power at any cost. Why does that keep happening?”

~ John Sexton at HotAir.com

While Venezuela is currently a country in a socialist death spiral, nearby Nicaragua may not be far behind.
NicaraguaMap
Daniel Ortega is basically a power-hungry dictator, cast from the same mold as Hugo Chávez and his successor Nicolas Maduro. Driven by greed, systematically undermining Nicaragua’s democratic institutions, he pretty much primed the country for an implosion.

In his May 24th article, Otto Reich discussed how Ortega’s recent actions have been taken right out of Chávez’s playbook ~

… manipulating electoral laws and eliminating checks and balances by controlling the national police; co-opting the Supreme Court and legislature; curtailing freedom of expression and repressing independent media; and harassing and hounding opposition forces and other critics.

So the sudden eruption of nationwide protests a few months ago didn’t come as a huge surprise to those who have watched that growing authoritarianism ~

(I)t would only take a spark to upset his carefully laid plans to establish a family dynasty in Nicaragua along the lines of the Somozas, ironically the family dictatorship that Ortega’s guerrillas once overthrew but which it now closely resembles.

That spark came with the sudden announcement of a Social Security reform requiring workers to pay more while receiving fewer benefits. When peaceful protesters demonstrated against the changes, security forces and regime militants (known as turbas divinas, or “divine mobs”) descended on the unarmed civilians, mostly students and younger Nicaraguans, with a fury that shocked the country and only enflamed the situation.

According to the latest reports ~

The government says 197 people have been killed since the protests first flared in mid-April. But rights groups say the death toll is actually over 300, and that 2,000 people have been wounded and more than 130 opposition figures detained.

Nicaragua-protests1
Fox News describes the Ortega regime’s harsh response to the uprising ~

At least 400 people are believed to still be held in jails, prisons and police stations across the country and some consider them to be political prisoners, according to the non-governmental Nicaraguan Human Rights Center.

Others are held for days or weeks incommunicado, brutally interrogated to give names and threatened with terrorism charges before being released without explanation as Ortega’s government seeks to extinguish the resistance.

Although the country is in disarray, it’s far from the dire straits Venezuelans find themselves in. This unrest is fairly recent, and the Nicaraguans aren’t yet starving or demoralized; they remember the relatively prosperous times they were enjoying just a few short months ago. According to Reich, several circumstances may prevent the country from complete collapse ~

(E)ven the best authoritarian plans can quickly unravel. Notably, the military has signaled its displeasure with the deadly crackdown by Ortega’s police and regime militants, calling for an end to the violence — a strong indication that they might not tolerate further wanton violence directed at civilians. Most of the private sector, which was not consulted on the Social Security reform, has also distanced itself from Ortega, as has the Catholic Church. In fact, the government has become so unpopular that it has had to transport supporters into Managua to stage pro-regime counter demonstrations.

Moreover, the specter of Venezuela’s collapse haunts Nicaragua. The country benefited in recent years from regular subsidies of well over half a billion dollars in oil annually from Caracas, allowing it to pay off cronies and fund unsustainable social programs for the country’s poor. But now the Venezuela gusher has gone almost dry, placing increased economic pressure on the Ortega regime.

Nicaraguans are also aware of the disastrous denouement of chavismo in Venezuela —repression, corruption, societal conflict, shortages of basic goods and collapse of services — and have no desire to follow the same path.

Yet Venezuela is the future that Bernie Sanders, and the latest Democrat Socialist darling – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – are peddling. They’re trying to dupe the electorate into believing that capitalism is the enemy of the people ~

Socialists like to blame every inequity, the actions of every greedy criminal, every downturn and every social ill on the injustice of capitalism. But none of them admit that capitalism has been the most effective way to eliminate poverty in history.
Today, in former socialist states like India, there have been big reductions in poverty thanks to increased capitalism. In China, where communism sadly still deprives more than a billion people of their basic rights, hundreds of millions benefit from a system that is slowly shedding socialism. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the extreme poverty rate in the world has been cut in half. And it didn’t happen because Southeast Asians were raising the minimum wage.

On the other hand, as David Harsanyi pointed out last month ~

(S)ocialism is the leading man-made cause of death and misery in human existence. Whether implemented by a mob or a single strongman, collectivism is a poverty generator, an attack on human dignity and a destroyer of individual rights.

Nicaragua’s chaos today was inevitable. Ortega’s socialist policies – fueled by his ambitions – grew to unsustainable levels. Something had to give.

Whether it comes in the form of a greedy despot – or an insatiable federal leviathan (Washington D.C.) – whenever the government continues to throw up barriers to free trade, and gradually assumes control of the private sector, collectivism never ends well.

(M)urderous dictatorships, based on repression, can last as long as their respective tyrants are willing to defend them, but what they will never achieve is to bring prosperity and happiness to their people. This can only be achieved with democratic institutions, alternation of power, circulation of government elites, transparency, social mobility, the rule of law and the rest of the attributes of civilized and mature nations.

Nicaragua’s economy laid low by months of unrest ~

Managua (AFP) – Tourist spots are empty, shopping centers and hotels are shuttered, loans for farming have dried up, and unemployment is accelerating. Such is the economic impact of months of unrest in Nicaragua — despite President Daniel Ortega’s insistence the situation is returning to “normality.”

The country has been in turmoil since the 72-year-old leader, a former guerrilla who has ruled Nicaragua for 22 out of the past 39 years, responded to rising anti-government protests with a brutal crackdown by his security forces and loyal paramilitaries.

Religion-of-Peace gets a pass?

In this week’s episode of “Disorder in the Court,”
we learn that some demographic groups
are more equal than others

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I blogged about last Friday, a handful of Muslims abusing 11 boys in on a remote compound in New Mexico wasn’t enough to pique the mainstreams’ interest (wrong demographic of course). Here’s a recap of the story from Katie Pavlich ~
Thirty-nine year old Siraj Wahhaj was arrested at a New Mexico compound on Friday after authorities discovered 11 starving children, three women and another man living together in squalor. The children range in age from 1-to-15 years old. Remains of a young child were also found on the property.
Wahhaj abducted his three-year-old son from Georgia late last year and took him to northern New Mexico, where he has been hiding in a third-world style shack for months. He reportedly kidnapped his son in order to conduct an “exorcism.” The boy suffered from brain damage and had difficulty walking. Wahhaj blamed his health issues on the devil. The mother of the boy still lives in Georgia. Wahhaj’s father is an Iman in Brooklyn and has direct ties to the 1991 bombing of the World Trade Center.
NewMexicoMuslims4
Apparently none of this warrants holding Wahhaj – or the four other suspects – in custody until trial, because now we hear that the compound defendants are to be released pending trial! ~
A state judge has denied a request by prosecutors to keep in jail the two men and three women who were arrested during a raid at a New Mexico compound as they await trial on child abuse charges.
The decision came Monday evening after a lengthy hearing in Taos during which prosecutors said the five defendants were preparing for a dangerous anti-government mission.
She set a $20,000 bond for each and ordered that they wear ankle monitors and have weekly contact with their attorneys.
A small handicapped child is dead. Eleven other boys are no doubt scarred for life. And these monsters get ankle monitors? Welcome to the United States of Unequal Justice.
Monday isn’t the first time (Judge Sarah Backus, an elected Democrat) has issued low bail for suspects accused of violent crimes.
Just last month, she set a $10,000 bond for Rafael Orozco, a 24-year-old Taos man accused of battering his girlfriend, his newborn child and a health care worker at Holy Cross Hospital in September 2016.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Ryan Cangiolosi, chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico, said Backus’ decision to release “suspected terrorists” into the community has put the people of the state at risk […]

“By releasing these suspects without even requiring them to post bail, Judge Backus has put people in danger and created the risk that they could flee and harm other children and communities as well,” he said in a statement. “If New Mexico Democratic Party leaders are serious about keeping our state safe, they should join me in denouncing Judge Backus and the incredible failure of leadership and judgment demonstrated by her terrible decision.”

Forest mismanagement fuels western fires

CAwildfires2018cWhy are we seeing such a dramatic increase in the scope and intensity of wildfires in California and neighboring states in recent years? Should we blame the Left’s favorite boogeyman – global warming? Not exactly. According to Bob Zybach, an experienced forester with a PhD in environment science, Clinton-era environmental policies are primarily responsible for the worsening conditions ~

Zybach said a change in forest management policies is the main reason Americans are seeing a return to more intense fires, particularly in the Pacific Northwest and California where millions of acres of protected forests stand […]

Zybach spent two decades as a reforestation contractor before heading to graduate school in the 1990s. Then the Clinton administration in 1994 introduced its plan to protect old growth trees and spotted owls by strictly limiting logging.

Less logging also meant government foresters weren’t doing as much active management of forests — thinnings, prescribed burns and other activities to reduce wildfire risk.

In an assessment that would turn out to be quite prophetic, back in in 1994 Zybach told Evergreen Magazine that ~

(T)he Clinton administration’s plan for “naturally functioning ecosystems” free of human interference ignored history and would fuel “wildfires reminiscent of the Tillamook burn, the 1910 fires and the Yellowstone fire.”

His prediction was right on. For example, before the federal policy change, western Oregon had experienced only one major fire above 10,000 acres between 1952 and 1987 ~

The region’s relatively fire-free streak ended with the Silver Complex Fire of 1987 that burned more than 100,000 acres in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness area, torching rare plants and trees the federal government set aside to protect from human activities. The area has burned several more times since the 1980s.

“Mostly fuels were removed through logging, active management — which they stopped — and grazing,” Zybach said in an interview. “You take away logging, grazing and maintenance, and you get firebombs.”

Now, Oregonians are dealing with 13 wildfires engulfing 185,000 acres. California is battling nine fires scorching more than 577,000 acres, mostly in the northern forested parts of the state managed by federal agencies.

CAwildfires2018b
Another factor impacting the scope and severity of the fires has simply been population growth. Michael Bastasch reports ~

A recent study found the risk of fire increased in once rural areas as populations increased, putting more buildings, plants, vehicles and other ignition sources in fire-prone areas that were once sparsely populated.

As U.S. Geological Survey fire scientist Jon Keeley explained to The San Jose Mercury News ~

“What’s changing is not the fires themselves but the fact that we have more and more people at risk.”

[And the more people, unfortunately, the more arsonists.]

Unlike today’s greeniacs who tend to believe that humans should leave wild areas untouched, Native Americans understood proper land stewardship before the white man ever arrived ~

Zybach said Native Americans used controlled burns to manage the landscape in Oregon, Washington and northern California for thousands of years. Tribes would burn up to 1 million acres a year on the west coast to prime the land for hunting and grazing, Zybach’s research has shown.

“The Indians had lots of big fires, but they were controlled,” Zybach said. “It’s the lack of Indian burning, the lack of grazing” and other active management techniques that caused fires to become more destructive in the 19th and early 20th centuries before logging operations and forest management techniques got fires under control in the mid-20th Century.

Perhaps we should embrace that ageless wisdom.

Most radical environmentalists tend to run on emotions – their love for flora and fauna blinds them to the evidence of how best to manage wilderness areas. The rest of us want to coexist with nature. And that means responsible stewardship of public lands.

Amish Uber? Michigan Man Starts His Own Horse and Buggy Service ~ Enterprising 🙂 ~

Timothy Hochstedler of Colon, Michigan, has added his own spin on the fairly newfangled concept of ride sharing with what he calls “Amish Uber.” For $5, Hochstedler will take you where you need to go in his horse and buggy and provide stories and conversation along the way […]

Of course, there’s no Amish Uber app. Riders simply have to seek Hochstedler out or flag him down if they come across him on the road […]

The Amish have not shied away from hard work, and they take pride in the services and goods they offer. They’re not afraid to reach out to people who are different than they are, and they don’t sell a product or offer a service that they don’t stand behind.

“Our society is the best in the world as everyone enjoys happiness in very stable living condition, helping and leading each other though their life is not so luxurious and rich,” the piece continues, touting “the principle of collectivism” as the key to the alleged success of the regime. “Ordinary workers, peasants and intellectuals have become deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly to discuss state affairs and conduct free socio-political activities. This is a true picture that can be found only in the Korean-style socialist society.”

Extreme child abuse at ‘extremist Muslim’ New Mexico compound

While the mainstreams are stuck in a constant loop of isolated news events that serve to make Trump look bad – focused this week on the Paul Manafort circus – THIS actually happened ➡ Man arrested at ‘extremist Muslim’ New Mexico compound was training kids to commit school shootings ~

The father of a missing 3-year-old who was arrested at a New Mexico compound linked to “extremist Muslims” last week was training children to commit school shootings, court documents filed on Wednesday revealed.

Prosecutors allege Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 39, was conducting weapons training on the compound, where 11 children were found hungry and living in squalor. They asked Wahhaj, who appeared in court on Wednesday, be held without bail.

NewMexicoMuslims2

The makeshift compound — located near the Colorado border — was found shielded by old tires, wooden pallets and other debris. Upon authorities’ arrival, Wahhaj was “heavily armed with an AR15 rifle, five loaded 30 round magazines, and four loaded pistols, including one in his pocket when he was taken down,” Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said.

The sheriff said the children, ages 1 to 15, “looked like third world country refugees not only with no food or fresh water, but with no shoes, personal hygiene and basically dirty rags for clothing.”

Three women and another man (Subhannah Wahhaj, Jany Leveille, Hujrah Wahhaj and Lucas Morton) were also arrested ~

NewMexicoMuslims1
Whatever scant mainstream reportage of this shocking story can be found, tends to omit any mention of the word “Muslim,” leading viewers to speculate as to the motivation of the suspects. (“Probably those crazy white nationalists.”) Fox News was more forthcoming ~

Wahhaj’s family background was already controversial prior to his arrest.

In addition to his father reportedly being named by prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 (World Trade Center) bombing, the elder Wahhaj, who heads Masjid At-Taqwa mosque, was a character witness in the trial for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the notorious “blind sheikh” who was convicted in 1995 of plotting terror attacks in the U.S.

The U.K. Daily Mail (a news source not actively engaged in trying to undermine the Trump presidency) has more ~

Police raided the property a week ago in response a report of children living in filth, severe hunger and dangers including a leaky propone tank – detaining all living inhabitants.

On Monday, authorities returned with new intelligence to retrieve the body of a small boy – possibly the missing and severely disabled Georgia boy Abdul-ghani Wahhaj […]

Prosecutors also have accused the adults in court documents of training children to use firearms in preparation for future school shootings, although no charges have been filed in response to the accusation that came from a new foster parent of one of the 11 children removed from the compound.

Refuse at the compound included standard ammunition as well as fake cartridges designed to help people safely learn how to load and fire a weapon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now back to your regularly-scheduled propaganda (via ABC) ~
The father of a missing Georgia boy was training children at a New Mexico compound to commit school shootings, prosecutors said in court documents obtained Wednesday, as authorities waited to learn if human remains found at the site were those of the boy.
There is absolutely NO mention in this ABC-affiliate story about the suspects being Muslim. Also, they apparently felt the connection to Siraj Wahhaj (Siraj Ibn Wahhaj’s father), a Muslim cleric who leads a well-known New York City mosque, was totally irrelevant.
And they wonder why we call them “Fake News.”
Wahhaj Sr. was an honored guest at the Clinton State Department and the Obama White House. He was the first Muslim to lead prayer at the U.S. House of Representatives in 1991. He once predicted in a widely available sermon that U.S. democracy would “crumble” and be conquered from within by Islam, and also said it is “our duty as Muslims to replace the U.S. Constitution with the Quran.”
Wahhaj has called for death to all homosexuals and lesbians, citing Islamic law.
Wahhaj Sr., speaking at a fundraiser for the Benevolence International Foundation, said:
I pray Allah will bless us to raise an Army, and I’m serious about this. We were very close, recently. We had made intention to raise an army of 10,000 men in New York City. Muslim men to fight in the way of subhanahu wa ta’ala. And this is serious.
Argentina rejects abortion – riots ensue
Everyone remember the violent protests that broke out in Ireland when unrestricted abortion was legalized in that country a few months ago? Not so much? Well – there were the pro-aborts who took to the streets to celebrate a world with fewer Irish people – but the pro-lifers stayed home, and wept and prayed.
In Argentina this week – praise God – the other side won.
Argentina’s Senate voted early Thursday to reject a bill proposing the national legalization of abortion, following months of protests and debate between pro-lifers and abortion advocates.
The Senate rejected the proposed bill 38 to 31, CNN reported Thursday. The vote comes after Argentina’s lower house of Congress voted to legalize abortion until 14 weeks of pregnancy on June 14.
[Note – abortion is allowed in cases of rape, where the mother’s life is in danger and if the fetus has anencephaly.]
And then the riots broke out ~
Argentina-abortionriots
The streets of Buenos Aires transformed into a fire-filled riot after Argentina’s Senate voted against the legalisation of abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
Seems to me the desire to end the life of your unborn child not only reflects an irresponsible and selfish attitude, it also represents an act of defiance (of God and His law). If those emotions are what motivates you, it’s not surprising that you’ll react violently when you don’t get your way.
But there’s obviously a darker side at work here as well. Five years ago when Texas was planning to restrict abortions, and pass legislation than would require safer conditions at abortion clinics, protestors actually invoked Satan ~
The abortion battle in Texas was still raging Tuesday as both abortion supporters and pro-life activists flooded the State Capitol to make their voices heard. The Texas House and Senate reconvened briefly for a special session called by Gov. Rick Perry.
One of the more bizarre tactics used by pro-abortion activists involved chanting “Hail Satan!” to harass a pro-life crowd as they sang “Amazing Grace.”
The devil surely does love to sow death, destruction, chaos – evil ~
(Argentina) has faced some of the most violent pro-abortion protests in the world. In June, radical feminists marched in Buenos Aires to demand the government legalize the killing of unborn babies. In October 2017, they staged another violent, topless protest to demand taxpayer-funded abortions and cultural acceptance of prostitution. Local news reports indicate the pro-abortion protesters threw rocks, a Molotov cocktail, bottles, tampons and feces, as well as balloons filled with paint. They also vandalized walls with messages such as “Death to the pope” and “Lesbianize yourself.”
Argentina-abortionriots2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After the ill-fated Irish vote last May, Rob Slane discussed the unholy origins of legalized abortion ~

But what really amazes me is how the legalisation of abortion is hailed as some great groundbreaking move for freedom. If you think that, here’s your starter for ten: Which country was the first to legalise abortion? Was it one of the free countries of the world? Hmm? Ah no, it was that despotic, totalitarian cesspit of hell-on-earth, Lenin’s USSR.

Funny that! An apparently great movement for freedom and liberty and choice was initiated by the blood-soaked Bolshevik terror regime, which though it is known for many things, freedom, liberty and choice don’t tend to be what springs to mind.

Why did they legalise abortion? Because they saw the family as the biggest threat to the state, and therefore they needed to destroy it to achieve their aims. And there really are few better ways of destroying the family than persuading women in their millions that they’d be better off without the wonderful gift of children that God has given them.

Help fight the free-speech suppressors

thoughtpoliceErrorIn case you haven’t noticed, the social media giants (Facebook, Google, YouTube – usually joined by Twitter – and now accompanied by LinkedIn, Pinterest and others) are turning into George Orwell’s Thought Police. They’ve become the self-appointed arbiters of permissible speech, opinions and ideas. Fall in line with their intolerant, progressive worldview or you will be silenced.

Alex Jones is just the latest victim. In what was clearly a coordinated attack against the controversial host of InfoWars, numerous social media platforms suddenly booted him off their sites ~

Following a left-wing and mainstream media pressure campaign involving CNN, Big Tech platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Apple podcasts, Spotify, LinkedIn, and MailChimp banned InfoWars and Jones from their platforms for “hate speech,” and “hateful content,” despite refusing to state what the hateful content was.

While Jones is pretty much off-the-wall – regularly offering up far-fetched conspiracy theories – other conservative voices are not. Yet they get regularly banned, or shadow-banned, simply because they refuse to toe the leftist-progressive-statist-atheist line.

For example, I’ve blogged about PragerU a few times, and shared many of their enlightening videos. You Tube has been actively censoring (de-monetizing) them since before the last presidential election. There’s just something about Judeo-Christian, free-market capitalist, classically liberal positions that highly offends their totalitarian sensibilities ~

For more than two years, YouTube has continued to restrict access to more and more of our videos – simply because they present a conservative point of view. There are currently over 80 PragerU videos that are restricted – more than double the amount of restricted videos since filing our lawsuit against YouTube. Silicon Valley giants like YouTube continue to censor the ideas they don’t agree with. They promote their Leftist ideology and restrict conservative speech.

From the beginning of this process, we’ve been prepared to pursue our lawsuit against Google/YouTube as far, and for as long as it takes to secure every American’s right to freedom of speech online.

Recently, we officially filed an appeal with the Ninth Circuit Court – giving us another opportunity to argue our case against the tech giant.

You can support PragerU’s effort by signing their petition HERE. If you believe free speech in America should continue to be free, I strongly encourage you to do so.

Devin Nunes looking at ‘legal remedies’ to take against Twitter for ‘shadow banning’

Last week, Vice News reported that Nunes, along with several other conservative Republican figures, were harder to find on Twitter as their accounts did not show up on the auto-populated drop-down search box.

“It sure looks to me like they are censoring people and they ought to stop it. We are looking at any legal remedies to go through,” Nunes, R-Calif., said at the end of a Sunday morning interview on Fox News.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment […]

Nunes, who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has repeatedly condemned Twitter for applying a layer of censorship on the tweets tied to the Drudge Report, tying the issue to the larger issue of censorship and bias conservatives face in the technology arena.

Added: Twitter Plans ‘Hate Speech’ Crackdown After Backlash From Upset Employees ~ Apparently Twitter snowflakes can’t cope with anything that collides with their narrow, leftist worldview ~

Twitter is planning to accelerate changes to the company’s speech policies after a backlash from its own employees who want the company to ban right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, responding to a critical tweet from a Twitter engineer, said Wednesday he is “not happy” with Twitter’s current policies, which he said need to “evolve.”

Ah, there’s that magic word 🙂

Dear Darwin, explain this please

Charles Darwin – and many of his contemporaries (his cousin Francis Galton, and Ernst Haeckel among them) – were not exactly objective scientific observers. These men were materialists who were – at best – agnostic on matters of faith; at worst – openly hostile to religion.

Their fervent hope was that transmutation (as the theory that would become evolution was originally known) would validate their lack of belief in a Creator. So they couldn’t help but discover proof in their observations that really wasn’t there.

Haeckel was so enthusiastic about evolution he was unable to restrain himself from doctoring the actual evidence ~

Haeckelsfakeembryos

Despite the wreckage wrought via this godless worldview, the deceptive dogma still remains stubbornly rooted in the progressive movement. And Darwin’s devotees today are still looking at the evidence and trying to make it fit their broken theory. It must be awfully frustrating for them when every new discovery about our universe – from the vastness of the cosmos to the intricacy of living cells – contradicts evolution and proclaims intelligent design.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So here is a challenge for all those ardent Darwinists out there, how did THIS evolve? ~
HAIR
We brush it, cut it, curl it, straighten it, shave it, gel it, spike it, and dye it, but have we ever really stopped and thought about it?
The hair found on our heads, and pretty much everywhere else on our bodies except our palms and soles, is incredibly complex. Not that that should surprise us—the more we look the more we realize everything about us is complex!
Video via The Creation Club
What exactly are the odds of blind chance coming up with hair? Did evolution somehow know mammals would need hair? How did the intricate growth process spontaneously develop? … Please Chuck. Give it up!
North Korea returns our war dead (media yawns)
Apparently getting the remains of our troops killed in the Korea War – at long last – wasn’t a very newsworthy event for the mainstreams. This remarkable story should have received major coverage – but clearly did not.
You actually have to visit WhiteHouse.gov to learn much about Vice President Pence’s trip to Honolulu last week ~
Yesterday (August 1st) in Hawaii, the remains of 55 U.S. Service Members were returned to American soil. Vice President Mike Pence traveled to Honolulu for a moving tribute to their sacrifice: the Honorable Carry Ceremony.
At the end of the Korean War, after the armistice was signed 65 years ago ~
(M)ore than 8,000 American troops were simply listed as “missing” and did not come back at all. Ever since, our Nation has worked tirelessly to bring these soldiers home and keep our promise to leave no man behind.
Until recently, recovery efforts had been suspended for more than a decade because of North Korea’s escalating nuclear threats. This week marked a new season of hope for the surviving families of these fallen soldiers.
KoreanWarRemains2
This final return comes after President Trump’s historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un in Singapore on June 12. As the President worked to secure a commitment for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, he also insisted on a promise from Chairman Kim to return the remains of fallen U.S. Service Members lost in North Korea.
The President thanked Chairman Kim this week for honoring his word.
“Incredibly beautiful ceremony as U.S. Korean War remains are returned to American soil,” President Trump tweeted. “Thank you to Honolulu and all of our great Military participants on a job well done.”
To the families of the rest of our fallen soldiers, Vice President Pence offered a solemn pledge: “We will never stop striving until every hero lost in the Korean War is home.”
Forensics analysts face a daunting task in identifying the individual remains ~
There was only one dog tag amid the 55 sets of remains, and when North Korea has returned remains in decades past, the bones of different people have reportedly been combined together or mixed with animal remains. Initial reports say the new remains appear to be in a similar state of disarray, meaning the identifying process could take years.
Still, it’s a beginning. And, for dozens of loved ones, will finally bring some closure after decades of waiting. May these fallen soldiers rest in peace, and their final homecoming be of some solace and comfort to their surviving families.
Pence welcomes returned remains of Korean war veterans ~ One of the very few mainstream articles I ran across is from a Fox News affiliate in Hawaii ~
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a ceremony before the flag-draped containers carrying the remains were brought off airplanes in sets of four as solemn music played.
“Whosoever emerges from these aircraft today begins a new season of hope for the families of our missing fallen,” Pence said. “Hope that those who are lost will yet be found. Hope that after so many years of questions, they will have closure.”
Each container was accompanied by one Marine, one sailor, one soldier and one airman. They set the caskets gently on risers lined up inside the hangar as Pence stood watching with his hand over his heart. Adm. Phil Davidson, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, saluted.
Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Happy Birthday, Coast Guard! America’s Often-Neglected Armed Service Celebrates Its 103rd ~
Alexander Hamilton, as our first secretary of the treasury, was given authority to maintain all U.S. aids to navigation in 1789. In 1790, he received congressional authorization to finance and build 10 cutters as a “strong right arm,” a force known as the “Revenue Marine.”
Their mission was to suppress smuggling and to ensure duties and taxes were paid — a mission they achieved by preventing ships from landing in places other than ports with collectors.
The Coast Guard that exists today was officially created in 1915, when the Revenue Cutter Service was combined with the Life Saving Service to create a flexible force with a broad range of responsibilities and capabilities […]
The American public owes this service a debt of gratitude for all of the ways it keeps us safe, and it deserves the full support of those in Congress to ensure it has what it needs to complete its vital missions.
Hawaii’s Sunscreen Ban: A Good Law or More Needless Government Meddling? ~ At first the sunscreen ban sounded like another enviro-wacko overreaction, but according to this article from Cornwall Alliance (which promotes responsible stewardship), it’s not a bad idea – especially if we want to save sensitive coral reefs.
Mizzou Quarterback Apologizes for Offensive Tweets Sent in Middle School ~ Yes, thanks to social media, it’s getting this bad ~
The Columbia Daily Tribune reported it received an email from a reader pointing to several tweets on the first-team All-SEC quarterback’s Twitter account dating back to 2011, when he would have been 14 years old and still in the eighth grade.
No, Jesus Is Not Even Close To A Socialist ~ So stop hijacking his message to serve your own ideology ~
It is true that Jesus condemns greed and warns against the amassing of wealth. He repeatedly makes clear that helping the poor is one of the most fundamental obligations of a Christian. But socialism is a way to avoid this obligation, not fulfill it. In asking the government to be charitable in our place — with other people’s money, no less — we have missed the whole point of the exercise.
‘BE CAUTIOUS’: Dems Threaten Trump In All-Caps Over National Monuments ~ Rather than supporting Trump’s get tough stance with Iran (the world’s number one sponsor of terrorism), House Democrats chose to mock him for undoing Obama’s western land grabs ~
Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources told Trump to “NEVER, EVER THREATEN OUR PUBLIC LANDS OR WATERS AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER POLITICAL CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE.” […] 😯
Trump signed orders last year shrinking the size of two Utah national monuments, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, that were opposed by state Republicans and many local landowners and officials who said local economies were being decimated through land-use restrictions.
Hysteria Over 3D-Printed Guns – Misconceptions Vs. Reality ~ Bottom line:
(E)very activity pertaining to building, completing, or possessing “ghost guns” by prohibited persons is already illegal under federal law, and heavily regulated under many state laws.
Lucille Ball dished on ‘I Love Lucy’ co-stars to reporter, thought television went ‘downhill’ ~ Was she ever right – 40 years ago! “Lucy” set the bar, appealed to the whole family and stands the test of time. The world may have loved Lucy, but the celebrated comedian wasn’t in love with the state of television during the final years of her life.
‘Transexual’ mutilates himself to look reptilian, with horns ~ As Dr. Eowyn at Fellowship of the Minds puts it, this is the stuff of nightmares ~
Diagnosed with HIV, Hernandez changed his name to Eva Tiamat Medusa. He left the corporate world and became determined “not to die a human” but to transform himself into a reptilian.
Documents reveal SHOCKING damage to hotels used to house Syrian migrants ~ (Toronto) Muslim migrants exhibit a total lack of gratitude for their hosts’ hospitality ~
One hotel complained of refugees urinating in the lobby. Another complained that a fire was started in one of the rooms, and yet another complained that microwaves were stolen and furniture was smashed.
Worse still, two separate hotels complained that the Bibles were being destroyed.
Hey, what country wouldn’t welcome these gracious folks with open arms?
FAKE NEWS: ‘Nat Geo’ Photographer Admits Viral Photo Of Polar Bear ‘Dying From Climate Change’ Is False ~ But lies are perfectly acceptable when you’ve got a progressive agenda to push ~
One year later, National Geographic has finally admitted to facilitating “fake news” regarding climate change. The magazine’s most viral video ever, which featured heart-wrenching images of a starving polar bear, perpetuated the narrative that the animal’s imminent death was caused by climate change. However, the climate change aspect of the story is void of any real evidence.
Rent-Seeker’s Nirvana: Ultra-Rich Pocket $Billions in Wind & Solar Subsidies at Our Expense ~ (Australia) How the alternative energy racket rips off consumers ~
The hundreds of $billions paid in subsidies to intermittent wind and solar constitute the largest wealth transfer in economic history […]
There is absolutely no economic benefit in having power generated by wind and solar; delivering power at crazy random intervals, rather than when power consumers actually need it, results in a product with absolutely no commercial value. And that’s the reason that – in the absence of guaranteed Feed in Tariffs, renewable energy certificates and government underwritten contracts – power generated by nature’s wonder fuels wouldn’t find a market, anywhere, anytime, ever.
Internet helps normalize disturbing “Brony” culture of cartoon-pony loving men ~ Ugh. How has western culture devolved to this point? ~
There’s something disturbing about this slice of pop culture, and while I wouldn’t suggest they’re all sexual deviants, it’s baffling that this counter culture has reached enough critical mass that a documentary entitled, “Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony,” was produced about this fan base.
Real men don’t pretend to be ponies, they rescue horses ~ Retired Marine rescues horses from raging California wildfire ~
“I’m just the guy who moves stuff around,” he said modestly. The “stuff” he speaks of refers to the panicked horses and other livestock he wrangles out of harm’s way when they get left behind after the humans have fled.
With a large trailer borrowed from his job selling tractor equipment, Zimmerman has ventured daily into various evacuation zones just as homeowners threatened by the Carr Fire were rushing in the other direction.
Seven Jewish brothers who died for God’s law – and what we can learn from them today ~ The seven Jewish Machabean brothers are a model of true Christian fidelity
This band of brothers is venerated because in them we see the obedience, the trust, the faithfulness to God’s word and will and law, that Adam and Eve failed to show. We see the willingness to suffer and die even for a small matter, if it is known to be God’s will, rather than the practical atheism that cares nothing for God’s will and scorns Him in matters great and small. We see a model of the total dedication of the disciple to the master, the son to the father, the creature to the Creator. In short, we see a pattern for our own attitude when it comes to the commandments of God, over which nothing may be allowed to prevail.
More positive POTUS news the mainstreams missed
These days if there’s any story, event or development that reflects positively on Donald J. Trump, the chances of most Americans actually learning about it are slim-to-none – thanks to the hostile mainstreams. So it’s unlikely that you heard about the president’s meeting Wednesday afternoon with a group of inner-city pastors. After all, we can’t have this news getting out ➡ Pastor Predicts Donald Trump Will Be ‘The Most Pro-Black President in Our Lifetime’. That would disrupt the whole Trump-is-a-racist narrative.
Trumpwithpastors
More than a dozen faith leaders from urban centers across the country were at the White House on Wednesday to discuss priorities and progress. Pastor Darrell Scott (New Spirit Revival Center, Cleveland), who’s been a Trump supporter since before the election, had this to say ~
(T)o be honest, this is probably going to be the — and I’m going to say this at this table — the most pro-black President that we’ve had in our lifetime because — and I try to, you know, analyze the people that I encounter. This President actually wants to prove something to our community, our faith-based community and our ethnic community.
The last President didn’t feel like he had to. He felt like he didn’t have to prove it. He got a pass. This President is — this administration is probably going to be more proactive regarding urban revitalization and prison reform than any President in your lifetime.
If we work together, give him a chance. Don’t pay any attention to these guys back here [The media]. (Laughs.) And I’ll promise you, we will do something that — we will — this administration will continue to make history. It’s going to be a lot of positive changes. Great things are on the horizon, I promise.
Official remarks from the meeting’s various attendees are available HERE
Of course we know that President Trump frequently uses these meetings like these as a self-promo, to highlight his administration’s accomplishments. But that doesn’t take away from the accomplishments themselves. And if he doesn’t do it who will? The mainstream media? LOL
Despite the network news’ best efforts to bury stories like this, somehow word is getting out, and opinions are changing. Rasmussen released a new poll yesterday ~
