Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Violent Pipeline Protesters Are Obama-Approved. Peaceful Ranchers? Not So Much ~ A tale of two protests; more of that selective prosecution for which this post-Constitutional executive branch has become infamous.

Here’s another example, this one specifically from the Department of INJustice, which is clearly not blind ~

DOJ Drops Charges Against Arms Dealer Who “Threatened To Expose” Hillary Arming Islamic Extremists ~ Those of us who were paying attention already knew about Hillary’s nefarious arms dealing (to Syria) as part of the Benghazi fiasco (and you can bet Obama was up to his eyeballs in it as well). But here’s more evidence that the whole truth of supplying weapons-for-jihadis will never see the light of day.

Millennials’ Political Views Don’t Make Any Sense ~ Humorous headline – tragic truth – they’re living in fantasyland ~

Young people support big government, unless it costs any more money. They’re for smaller government, unless budget cuts scratch a program they’ve heard of. They’d like Washington to fix everything, just so long as it doesn’t run anything.

That progressive public school education has really been successful – with most. Here’s a young woman who refuses to go along with the groupthink ~ Black student rejects victimhood status: ‘I am going to break stereotypes’ ~

“Even when everyone around us tries to put us down for what we believe in, no one can intimidate me from fighting for what I know is right,” Richer says. “I am going to break the stereotypes against conservatism in the African American community, and expose the truth of the lies we’ve been fed.”

Inspiring!

Bill Clinton: ObamaCare is “Crazy System” That Punishes Working People We all know it’s a disaster – but why is he agreeing with that assessment – and criticizing a government-run healthcare system that’s awfully similar to the one proposed by his wife two decades ago? Daniel Greenfield suggests it may be part of a new strategy for the Clinton campaign ~

Hillary Clinton made a major strategic step by choosing to overtly court Republicans. These moments may well be a part of the strategy. Their supposed unscripted or leaked nature adds to that sense of authenticity. It backs up the claims made by some gullible GOP types that the Clintons are really pretty conservative compared to Obama.

The coffin club: the newest craze for the elderly ~ New Zealand. Crafting with a rather morbid twist; the groups are constructing their own coffins ~

“There is a lot of loneliness among the elderly, but at the coffin club people feel useful, and it is very social. We have morning tea and lunch, and music blaring, and cuddles.”

The coffins are cheap (only NZD250) and not only do the groups produce them for their own use, but they also build baby coffins which they donate to local hospitals. But aside from the savings and the charitable motives, there is also a strong psychological benefit for the members. Members talk of facing up to the inevitable, resolving their own mortality and not ignoring their mortality.

A sad trend that will probably grow as Western populations continue to age

EXCLUSIVE: Muslim Terrorists Infiltrating Law Enforcement ~

In an alarming trend, more and more Muslim terrorists are infiltrating the ranks of security firms and police departments, where they have acquired official IDs and uniforms to help gain access to secure areas, as well as firearms and tactical training to help carry out attacks.

Oh well ➡ Nothing changes – Feds have been willfully blind to Islamic terrorism since Oklahoma City

And in this week’s episode of You-Can’t-Make-This-Stuff-Up ~ Blameshifting: Obama tells DiCaprio climate change ‘contributed’ to the Syrian civil war ~ Two out-of-touch elitists with the biggest carbon footprints on the planet ~

WASHINGTON DC — Discussing the threat of climate change with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, President Obama on October 3, said “powerful” studies suggest “the droughts that happened in Syria contributed to the unrest and the Syrian civil war.”

Privatize Airport Screeners to Get Bomb-Sniffing Dogs Back on the Scent of Terrorists ~ Government inefficiency may just endanger lives ~

Expanding participation in the Screening Partnership Program would go a long way to improving the underperforming TSA, and would create a safer airport environment.

Just out: “Che Guevara Energy Drink!”–Targeting the very people Che Guevara tortured, murdered and jailed en masse: rebellious youths–And promoted in the very place Che Guevara craved to incinerate! –New York’s Times Square! (WARNING: This is not a Monty Python skit!) ~ Is the Left willfully – ignorant or are they just born that way? What’s next? Marx’ Malt Liquor?

And now for a little comic relief. Because the presidential race is essentially boiling down to which candidate is the least offensive, a new Twitter account has emerged to enter the contest: the Sweet Meteor O’Death“Ready to Make an Impact”. OK, it’s gallows humor, but there are days where if I don’t laugh I’ll cry ~

The “Abortion Party” demands repeal of the Hyde Amendment

[Yes, I’m still focused on abortion – because it’s THAT important.]

10weekoldembryo-smlrI’ve decided that the “D” in “Democrat” stands for death. Why else are they such ferocious advocates for free, unrestricted abortions for all?
Seriously, what do they have against unborn life in the womb? The more science has learned about fetal development, the more the Left’s “it’s just a blob of tissue” has been proven to be a lie; it’s a baby. But no matter, they just become ever more radical in demanding abortion “rights.”

The latest goal of the “Abortion Party” is the the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. This legislation has essentially been in place since 1976, three years after the disastrous Roe v. Wade ruling ~

The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funding of abortions through Health and Human Services (i.e., Medicaid), except where the life of the mother is threatened by carrying the baby to term, or (as added by President Bill Clinton) in cases of rape or incest. Last week marked the 40th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, which has saved an estimated 2 million babies from being aborted.

Saving that many lives must be a bad thing to Democrats because, as Benjamin Wiker explains in this article at “To the Source”, their 2016 party platform is calling for full repeal of the amendment ~

The Democrat argument is that abortion is a right, a subset right of health care, therefore everyone should be able to get an abortion for any reason—and that means the federal government should pay for those who can’t afford it.

They disguise their radical agenda with feelgood terms like “healthcare” and “reproductive rights” – when reproduce is the last thing thy want people to do. And healthcare is a sham too. They couldn’t care less about the mental health of women who have had abortions.

The Democrat position really doesn’t even make sense from a political standpoint because, as Wiker points out, their extreme views are out of step with the majority of Americans. Public opinion has grown more pro-life over the years – not less.

“the majority of Americans,” as Gallup polls over the last twenty years show, do not support abortion under any circumstances. Only about 25-30% support this radical position of the Democratic Platform. If we add together those who say that we should not allow abortion under any circumstances (about 20%) with those who say that abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances (about 50%), we have about 70% of Americans supporting the Hyde Amendments restrictions. Derailing the Hyde Amendment means a minority forcing a majority to pay for what it finds morally unconscionable.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Democrats’ pro-abortion arguments are as counterfeit as their position is immoral – as Ben Shapiro so aptly demonstrates in the following video ~
Ireland’s “Youth Defence” fights for the unborn
Ireland is currently one of the few Western countries with fairly restrictive abortion laws. The procedure is restricted to cases of maternal life, mental health, and/or health. Naturally that’s not good enough for anti-life leftists who want abortion-on-demand-for-whatever-reason and are aggressively pushing to overturn present legislation.
Fighting back for the rights of the unborn is an organization of young people called “Youth Defence.” Their righteous mission is to keep Ireland abortion-free ~
Educating people, helping mothers, lobbying, campaigning; all our objectives are undertaken with that aim […]
It has been said that abortion is the world’s best-kept secret because abortion campaigners continually deny the humanity of the unborn child and the real nature of abortion.
Our pro-life work helps to cut through masses of well-funded, pro-abortion propaganda. Huge numbers of Irish people have reconsidered their position on abortion because they recognise the truth when it’s presented to them fairly and honestly. That truth is that abortion kills a baby, harms a mother and profits the abortion industry. There is always a better way of dealing with a crisis pregnancy.
Here’s the group’s latest video ~
Evil emperor George Soros (through his Open Society Foundations) is funding efforts to repeal of the Eighth Amendment to the Irish constitution, which protects “the right to life of the unborn.” Monies are being funneled to Amnesty International Ireland, the Abortion Rights Campaign and other pro-abortion groups that will campaign for abortion on Irish soil ~
Cora Sherlock, deputy chairperson of the Pro-Life Campaign in Ireland and a regular contributor to LifeNews, told CNA that outside pro-abortion groups have been trying to impose their agenda on the Irish people for years.
“One thing is certain,” Sherlock said. “Those pushing abortion in Ireland have vast resources that they didn’t have just a few years ago. The money is not being raised from ordinary Irish citizens. That is for sure.”
“The idea that an outside body would fund and organize groups in Ireland to dismantle Ireland’s protection for the unborn child would represent a gross interference and total contempt for the Irish people,” she continued.
But then Soros, a Jew who actually assisted the Nazi efforts against his own people, in nothing but contemptible.
Abortion, euthanasia, Nazis: Irish bishop connects the dots, and faces blowback ~ “Blowback?” Of course. Progressives don’t like to be reminded of history because it often exposes their own nefarious intentions ~
(Bishop) Doran described “an interesting but chilling pamphlet” written by German physician Alfred Hoche and attorney Karl Binding in 1920 justifying the killing of mentally impaired for the good of society. Their argument in Allowing the Destruction of Life Unworthy of Living was “based largely on the idea that people with intellectual disability had no contribution to make to society and no particular desire to live,” and “formed the ideological basis for the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of so-called ‘undesirables’ in places like Hadamer Mental Hospital.”
Prayers for America
lansing_10-4-16It was a beautiful day at the Capitol Building in Lansing today! Perfect weather for a stop on Franklin Graham’s prayer rally tour: “Decision America-2016” ~
Franklin Graham is traveling to all 50 states this year to hold prayer rallies, to preach the Gospel, and to challenge believers to take a stand and take action. He’ll be urging Christians to vote, to live out their faith in every part of their lives, and to pray for our nation just as Nehemiah cried out to God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and restore hope to His people.
Michigan was the 45th rally on the tour (it wraps up in North Carolina next week). 1,000’s attended today’s event, and I was thrilled to be a part of it! 🙂
lansing_10-4-16-2
The way things are going in America these days all of our human resources and traditional solutions seem to be failing us. Much as we’ve tried to shut Him out, God is all we’ve got left. And in the end of course, He’s all we need.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If my people, who are called by My name, will humble
themselves and pray and seek My face and change their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive them and heal their land.

While we weren’t looking – we lost the Internet

aliciamachadoLast week while the media was obsessively shining their circus spotlights on a formerly-chubby, former Miss Universe who incidentally may have been an accessory to a murder 20 years ago, there were a few weightier matters going on behind the scenes that they were quite deliberately ignoring.

Chris Pandolfo at Conservative Review listed four, much more relevant issues they should have been focused on ~

• In order to cover the federal spending under the Obama administration without increasing the federal debt, President Obama would have had to raise federal tax revenues by a whopping 44 percent. And Hillary Clinton has proposed an additional $1.8 trillion in spending over the next decade. (Woo-Hoo!)

• Congress just passed an omnibus continuing resolution funding Planned Parenthood, Obama’s transgender bathroom mandate, sanctuary cities, DACA amnesty, and leaving Obamacare untouched. (There was not a word about this from the Trump camp this week.)

• Then there’s socialist Bernie Sanders campaigning with Hillary Clinton this week, promising tuition-free college in New Hampshire.

• Individuals questioned in the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server are being handed immunity left and right. The whole thing stinks, the American people don’t trust Hillary Clinton, and with even more Russian hackers targeting state voter registration systems, the issue of cyber-security is at the forefront of this campaign while Trump’s opponent put classified information on an email server with less security than a Gmail account

By far the worst omission – I’m surprised Conservative Review neglected to mention it – was the O’Ministration’s failure to retain U.S. control of internet regulation. This one flew under the radar for many of us – although Ted Cruz was sounding the alarm months ago (Of course thanks to Donald’s demonization of him, who listens to “Lyin’ Ted” eh?)

Briefly, a non-profit organization called ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), created in 1998, has been under contract to the Department of Commerce to assign and manage the web addresses and domain names (.com, .org, .gov, etc.) for every site on the Internet. This essentially helped to guarantee free speech and commerce across the net. Well, that contract expired on October 1st. Voices like Cruz’s and others (Stefan Molyneux made an excellent appeal for continued U.S. control) tried to get it extended – to no avail.

It’s not entirely known who or what will control ICANN now – possibly tech companies, foreign governments and advocacy organizations… the U.N.. (Won’t that be great?)
John Bolton was unequivocal in his opposition to the transfer of authority ~

boltononinternet

There are two main reasons this was an incredibly bad idea. First, as Bolton explained, it will end up infringing on free speech on the Internet ~

Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn have warned that transfer of U.S. control of ICANN will give China, Russia and Iran, whose governments censor websites and online commentary critical of their policies, more control over the internet.

Flashback to Obama admonishing us in the wake of Benghazi and his phony anti-Muslim video narrative: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam,” and you can imagine where the censorship will start.

As if that’s not bad enough, maintaining oversight of ICANN is a national security issue. Jody Westby explained what’s at stake in this recent Forbes’ article ~

… think about if the U.S. was engaged in cyberwar — a situation surely to occur. Under this new arrangement, the U.S. may not know if all of the IP Addresses for domain names are legitimate or if they have been manipulated or compromised in some fashion. Moreover, the Government’s — and the private sector’s — ability to get new sites accessible on the Internet would be dependent upon the actions of a non-profit organization which is increasingly multinational. It is also possible that ICANN may fall under the influence of powerful corporations or nation states who do not have U.S. national security interests at the forefront.

In sum, in a cyberwar scenario, the U.S. government may not have control over a very strategic area of its military operations — cyber. Even if it secures military and government domains and IP Addresses, the targets in cyber warfare are likely to be civilian, and the U.S. Government requires private sector infrastructure to operate. Since the Internet underpins our computer systems, electrical grids, communication systems, and other critical infrastructure, our entire civilian society could be at risk: the Internet may not function properly or changes necessary to protect us may not be implemented or made in a timely fashion.

I want to be clear that I am not suggesting that ICANN is not to be trusted today. I am simply stating that the Internet is critical to our military operations and civilian society and certainty regarding its operations and changes to its addressing system is a vital national security interest that cannot be cavalierly given away.

In view of these very real threats, last week four states (Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma and Nevada) sued to try to stop the ICANN transfer~

The suit made several arguments against the internet giveaway. Plaintiffs argued that, because it lacks congressional approval (Congress didn’t approve the action, it merely declined to block it) the giveaway amounts to an illegal ceding of U.S. government property. They also contended that the new steward of the internet domain system, an outfit known ICANN, will be so unchecked that it could “effectively enable or prohibit speech on the Internet.”

Source: PowerLine blog

Unfortunately for the cause of free speech, and national security and sovereignty, an Obama-appointed judge dismissed the suit. One more disaster to add to the dismal record of the worst president ever.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

Robert Spencer (Jihad Watch) reminds us that the cause of truth and freedom will go on regardless ~

The thing is, if we lose the Internet as a platform for the truth amid the mainstream media lies and distortions, it will be a terrific blow, but the struggle for freedom will not be over. We will find other platforms, we will organize in different ways. The political and media elites are increasingly fearful of losing their grip, and are becoming increasingly authoritarian as a result. They may succeed in driving us underground. They will never succeed in silencing us.

Choices or chains; capitalism vs. communism

FEE (Foundation for Economic Education) recently published an excellent article at that should be required reading for all high school students: Communist Economics in One Page: A Refresher Course. The author, Marian L. Tupy, grew up in communist Czechoslovakia, witnessing firsthand the soul-sucking nature of that bankrupt ideology. In this piece he exposes the myth of the socialist utopia that so many Bernie supporters seem enamored with, by contrasting it with free-market capitalism.

Here’s a simple visual comparison – take your pick ~

germancars

Communist producers were protected from domestic competition by having a monopoly. They were also protected from foreign competition by prohibitively high import tariffs or an outright ban on imports. Put differently, they had a “captive” consumer base. The Trabant car manufacturer did not have to worry about losing consumers, since the latter had nowhere else to go.

Moreover, the workers at the Trabant car plant received the same salary irrespective of the number of cars they produced. As a result, they produced fewer cars than were needed. People in East Germany had to wait for many years, sometimes decades, before they were able to buy one. Indeed, shortages of most consumer goods, from important items such as cars to mundane items such as sugar, were ubiquitous. Endless queuing became a part of everyday life.

[See Venezuela]

Advocates of communism often rail against capitalists as useless and immoral, but they’re neither ~

For example, capitalists often invest in new technologies. Companies that have revolutionized our lives, like Apple and Microsoft, received their initial funding from private investors. Because their own money is on the line, capitalists tend to be much better at spotting good investment opportunities than government bureaucrats. That is why capitalist economies, not communist ones, are the leaders in technological innovation and progress.

Moreover, by investing in new technologies and by creating new companies, capitalists provide consumers with a mind-boggling variety of goods and services, create employment for billions of people, and contribute trillions of dollars in tax revenue. Of course, all investment involves at least some level of risk. Capitalists reap huge profits only when they invest wisely. When they make bad investments, capitalists often face financial ruin.

While capitalism motivates through self-interest, communism motivates through fear. Although they initially tried propaganda ~

jointhedependents-smlr

Posters of strong and determined workers were ubiquitous throughout the former Soviet empire. Movies about hardworking miners and farmers were supposed to instill the population with socialist zeal.

Propaganda alone could not increase the productivity of communist workers to Western levels. To incentivize the workforce, communist regimes resorted to terror.

Workers who slacked off on the job were sometimes convicted of sabotage and shot. More often, they were sent to the Gulag – a system of forced labor camps. Sometimes, the authorities arrested and punished completely innocent people on purpose. Arbitrary terror, the communists believed, made the rest of the workforce more productive.

And then, the tragic legacy of communism that so many contemporary history books conveniently leave out ~

In the end, tens of millions of people in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, and other communist countries were sent to labor camps. The living and working conditions in the camps were inhuman and millions of people perished.

My great uncle, who was accused and convicted of being a supporter of the underground democratic opposition in communist Czechoslovakia, was sent to mine uranium for the Soviet nuclear arms program. Working without any protection from radiation, he died of cancer.

Communism offers nothing but equal misery for all – excluding a tiny elite ruling class of course. It encourages nothing good; low productivity, inefficiency, apathy and corruption ~

In order to have something to trade with one another, people first had to “steal” from the state. A butcher, for example, stole meat and exchanged it for vegetables that the greengrocer stole. The process was inefficient, but it was also morally corrupting. Lying and stealing became widely used and trust between people declined. Far from fostering brotherhood between people, communism made everyone suspicious and resentful.

Human nature precludes any economic system from being perfect; we aren’t flawless, so nothing we create will be. But dozens of social constructs over thousands of years of civilization have given us a model that creates the greatest good for the greatest amount of people: free-market capitalism.

Saturday Shorts – 10-1-16

sshorts9-17-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Who Is Behind The Riots? Charlotte Police Says 70% Of Arrested Protesters Had Out-Of-State IDs ~ A little detail the network news left out of their racist-cop narratives. Same thing we saw in Ferguson. George Soros is pushing the buttons in Charlotte too. Hackers with DCLeaks.com published documents from Soros group OSF (Open Society Foundations) showing at least $650,000 given directly to BLM (Black Lives Matter) ~

Those same documents reveal the reason for OSF bankrolling BLM: the “dismantling” of America so that it can be recast according to the vision of Soros and his leftist cohorts […]

BLM is little more than a tool of social revolutionaries hell-bent on destroying America so they can build their long awaited dystopia which they attempt to pass off as a utopia.

And in a related story ~ You can’t make a cake for those protecting you? ~

Three Walmart workers in McDonough, Georgia, refused to decorate a “thin blue line” cake for a police officer’s retirement party because they said it was racist.

Walmart is supposed to be the home of low prices – not low-class, anti-cop bigots.

Globalism Is Anti-Christ, Demonic, Theologians Argue ~ And it’s not just Christians saying that ~

“(B)eyond that it is not democratic, there’s something about (globalism) that is a little creepy, a little uncanny.”

“It’s basically saying ‘We are going to organize the world in a way that establishes an artificial consensus.’ It’s not enough to say it’s undemocratic. It’s threatening; it’s almost demonic. It is a world organized independently of people’s fundamental religious convictions.” ~ Rabbi Jeremy Rabkin

Florida Trump Adviser Resigns Over ‘Direction’ Of Campaign ~ Hmmm…

“It is clear the campaign is now going in a direction I am no longer comfortable with,” (Healy) Baumgardner said, “and I have decided to move on.”

Maybe she read this article ~ Trump’s debate incompetence a slap in the face to his supporters ~

His supporters should be furious with him, and so should the public in general. By performing this incompetently, by refusing to prepare properly for this exchange, by not learning enough to put meat on the bones of his populist case against Clinton, he displayed nothing but contempt for the people who have brought him this far — and for the American people who are going to make this momentous decision on Nov. 8.

The Late, Great Stem Cell Debate; Why Pro-Lifers Were Right ~ As I’ve noted before, despite progresssives’ assertions, there never was a valid reason to experiment on human embryos for science; “saving life doesn’t require destroying it.”

Cotton, Pompeo Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal “What We Learned in Scandinavia About Migrants” ~ [Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) is one of the few conservatives left in DC] This piece is a tale of two countries: Norway’s sane approach to the Middle East refugee issue – vs. Sweden’s national suicide mission.

U.S. Catholic school hit with $1 million suit for not allowing same-sex date at 2015 homecoming dance ~

Now a college freshman at DePaul University, Sanderson hopes his lawsuit will intimidate Catholic schools across the nation to be more accepting of homosexuality.

First of all, merely by bringing a lawsuit, the young man isn’t exactly behaving as a Christian (1 Corinthians 6:1-7) so why was he even attending a Catholic school. Second, witnessing the rather flimsy faith of Christian Brothers schools firsthand (just sayin…), I have no doubt he’ll succeed. But in the end – God won’t be intimidated – or mocked.

How ‘Green’ was My Campus ~ The indoctrination marches on. First they peddle flat-out lies ~

“We are currently on track to having the hottest year ever, breaking the record established last year,” Marcus Peter Ford writes on the Academe blog maintained by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). “We also set records for warmth in 2013 and 2014.”

Then they go full Marxist ~

“And yet, to date, climate change has had little impact on how we understand the purpose of higher education. On university campuses, almost no attention has been given to transitioning our global society into one that is ecologically sustainable and just. In their current manifestations universities emphasize employment, scholarship, research, and personal enrichment as their educational missions. Under different circumstances, these are admirable goals. But in a time of global environmental crisis, they are not sufficient.”

“Global environmental crisis?” These people are insane.

Military and Police Corruption: Venezuela’s Growing Evil ~ Strangely enough Obama is trying to wreck those same two institutions here in America (He did read Hugo’s book after all).

EU Launches Programme to Issue Cash Cards to Migrants in Turkey ~ Just what Turkey needs – more Islamists – and paid for by the very culture they despise. Perfect.

Evan McMullin Is The New Ted Cruz Now that Ted Cruz has shown that his senate career is more important than his principles, Constitutional conservatives need a new champion. McMullin, a 40-year-old political novice is running for president as an independent ~

(He says) Trump is a racist, “full stop,” and that Cruz had “betrayed the cause of conservatism” by endorsing him.

McMullin, a former CIA officer and chief policy director of the House Republican Conference, shares with Cruz a penchant for talking about the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Founding Fathers. Like Cruz, he’s big on political philosophy and conservative principles, and talks about them in a sometimes lecturing tone. In some ways, McMullin has taken on the mantle Cruz discarded.

It’s not the racism – it’s the misplaced loyalty to progressives

Angry race-baiters (and the Democrat party) don’t want blacks to learn the real truth – that most of the problems facing black Americans are self-inflicted. Excellent analysis from Taleeb Starkes at Prager University ~

NYC welcomes the anti-God god “Baal” to Times Square

So last week the Big Apple quietly unveiled a replica of the gateway arch leading to the Temple of Baal ~

Under the auspices of the UAE and in collaboration with UNESCO, the University of Oxford and Harvard University, a restored, three-dimensional version of Palmyra’s monumental Arch of Triumph – destroyed at the hands of the terrorist organisation, Daesh, was revealed on Tuesday (Sept. 20th).

In the presence of Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of Dubai Future Foundation, as well as a number of specialists and subject-matter experts, interested parties and tourists, the historic arch gate of Palmyra’s Temple of Baal was reconstructed in New York City’s Times Square, facing the municipal building.

Source: Emirates 24/7 News

Weird that it didn’t get much coverage in the mainstream media isn’t it? When this project was initially announced earlier this year there was a lot of blow-back – mostly from those intolerant Christians I presume – and it was reported that the plans were subsequently cancelled. Perhaps that was just a ruse, because the temple gate is definitely up now.

archgate-templeofbaal
Jonathan Cahn, author of the bestselling book “The Harbinger,” was among the sparse crowd at the unveiling. Note any parallels between the Old Testament story of Baal and present-day America? ~

But no worries eh? After all, peace and harmony are breaking out all around the country lately. Every day it’s seems there’s another “lone wolf” terrorist attack, another mall shooting or stabbing, another trumped-up race riot breaking out. In fact, Michael Snyder, writing at Charisma News, has noticed a marked increase in evil ~ A Spirit of Violence Rises in America Following the Unveiling of the ‘Harbinger of Baal’ in New York ~

Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but I find it very, very strange that there has been a dramatic outbreak of violence in this country in the week since this arch was put up.

The most recent incident happened over the weekend. A 20-year-old Turkish immigrant named Arcan Cetin walked into a Macy’s department store in the Seattle area and started firing. Five innocent people were killed, and this incident immediately made headlines all over America […]

Police say that Cetin was in a “zombie-like state” when he was later caught and arrested, and authorities say that his motivation for the attack is “unclear” at this moment. […]

what should be exceedingly clear to all of us is that a spirit of violence is rising in America. The tensions that are causing riots like we just witnessed in Charlotte continue to intensify, and the growth of radical Islam around the world will continue to motivate jihadists in this country and elsewhere to conduct more terror attacks.

This isn’t going to help ➡ Satanic Temple brings ‘Satan Club’ to elementary school.

Eenie, meenie…

trumphillary-smlrIn the wake of last evening’s debate/clown show, aren’t many of us wondering whatever happened to presidential candidates who at least pretended to a shred of class, decency and integrity? David Harsanyi, writing at The Federalist described the sorry spectacle quite well ~

On Monday night, America witnessed one of the most worthless, and certainly one of the most infantile, presidential debates in its history.
After listening to Donald Trump’s meta-fictions and Hillary Clinton’s manicured obfuscations, the voter is left with one question: do you prefer an idiocracy or a kleptocracy?

If you’re a Christian too, and were were as discouraged by the circus as I was, here’s another great question: “What would the Apostle Paul say about the 2016 election?” Steve Deace has some instructive thoughts on the matter, here are some excerpts ~

Paul was the most prolific and authoritative writer in the New Testament. Many of his teachings are still the basic framework for how much of the church is structured and behaves to this day. As a Roman citizen in a quasi-republic, he probably comes the closest to having to navigate the cultural waters we’re in today. Hence, he wrote these words: “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh (to sin), but to serve one another.” […]

stpaul
… Paul — like most of the New Testament writers — was Jewish. But unlike his fellow Jewish New Testament authors such as Peter, Paul was highly educated as the protégé of a legendary rabbi at the time. Therefore, Paul would be well-acquainted with the words of Exodus 18:21, when Moses becomes the first person in the Scriptures granted the authority to select representatives to govern on his behalf:

“Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.”

I believe Paul would ask any believer compel a candidate to meet this minimum threshold before voting for him. To fear God means to understand who one is ultimately accountable for his decisions once elected, which is why we require an oath, “So help me God” before assuming office. Candidates must also be persons of integrity in both their personal and private lives, as well as able to avoid the temptation to use their authority to promote their self-interest above the public interest […]

Given the fact both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton fail to meet the minimum biblical requirements for public office, I don’t think there’s any biblical argument Paul would spend an iota of time on lobbying or shaming Christians into voting for either one. Instead, I believe he would use the platform of this election to bring focus and attention upon the gospel.

That the reason we’re facing such a Kobayashi Maru (Star Trek reference) scenario as a culture is because we’ve turned away from our first love and turned our backs on God — the source of our rights. I think Paul’s primary concern with both Trump and Clinton would be the condition of their souls, more so than the merits of their platforms.

Read the whole piece HERE; comforting words, and a big helping of food-for-thought about the upcoming election.

It’s not a good time to be born in Venezuela

maylaniA close family member recently gave birth a month prematurely. After a couple days of struggling with breathing issues the baby was airlifted to a nearby critical-care neo-natal unit where her condition almost immediately began to improve. Thankfully, she was home a week later and is doing well 🙂

We’re all the more grateful that she was born in the country that still (despite the damage done by Obamacare) provides the best medical care in the world. Tragically, babies in the socialist paradise of Venezuela aren’t so fortunate ~ Images of newborn babies in cardboard boxes in Venezuela hospital shock the world ~

The photos were taken at the Domingo Guzman Lander hospital in Barcelona, in the northeastern state of Anzoategui, and leaked by a doctor who asked to remained anonymous to avoid possible retributions. The doctor reached out to an opposition lawmaker, Manuel Ferreira, who posted them on his Twitter account for the world to see.

“The babies spent all night in the cardboard boxes until the pictures were made public,” Congressman Manuel Ferreira told Fox News Latino on Thursday morning. “After that they discharged the babies to avoid further exposure.”

Ferreira added that the babies sleeping in cardboard boxes is just one instance of the demise of health care within Venezuela’s hospitals.

“This week we had 15 cases of newborn deaths here in Anzoategui’s Razetti hospital,” he told FNL. “Mothers are not fed properly and babies are born really weak. On top of that, the shortage of medicines and vaccines creates a mortal situation that is like a death cocktail.”

Everything from common painkillers to cancer and HIV drugs have become almost impossible to find across the country and some doctors have resorted to using veterinary medications in lieu of human ones — according to the Pharmaceutical Federation, the shortage of medicines is more than 80 percent.

The article goes on to incorrectly attribute Venezuela’s desperate situation to the drop in oil prices over the last few years. I’ve blogged about the beleaguered country several times; it’s not the oil – it’s the socialism ~

Before Chavez, Venezuela was a successful petro-state with a significant middle class and stable economics. Then Chavez created a command economy, expropriated private property, and ruled by whim for most of his term as president/dictator. He managed that through brute force and a cult of personality, but his successor (Nicolas Maduro) only has brute force to use.

When even an average U.S. hospital isn’t able to provide the specialized care that preemies require, the precious little things don’t stand a chance in Venezuela. Socialism kills.
