Saturday Shorts – 9-22-18

sshorts9-16-17

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

First, some insightful commentary on the ongoing Kavanaugh confirmation carnival ~

The Charges Against Judge Kavanaugh Should Be Ignored ~ Clear-headed analysis from Dennis Prager gets to the heart of this debacle ~

This is another example of the moral chaos sown by secularism and the left. In any society rooted in Judeo-Christian values, it is understood that people should be morally assessed based on how they behave over the course of their lifetime — early behavior being the least important period in making such an assessment.

Christine Blasey Ford’s Collateral Damage ~ Ruining lives and reputations over baseless accusations ~

(W)e live in a time of consummate selfishness and evil. Almost nothing is done with clean hands or pure motivation. Few, if anyone, think about others — in this case even about their very young and impressionable sisters. Christine Blasey Ford is a poster woman for the worst, most narcissistic end of the #MeToo movement.

If nothing else, this Kavanaugh circus has exposed the far Left for the heartless zealots they truly are ~
U.S. Marshals Probe Threats Against Kavanaugh Family: ‘F*** YOU AND YOUR RAPIST HUSBAND’ ~ Seriously? How despicable can you get?

CNN’s Ana Navarro: Kavanaugh Allegations Will Be ‘in His Obituary,’ ‘Huge Black Cloud’ ~ These people are absolutely detestable – rejoicing in the deliberately-inflicted misery of an innocent man and his family.

Hurricane Hack: Making a phone charger using a 9V battery ~ I meant to include this one with last week’s Shorts, while the Carolina’s were getting hammered by Florence. It’s a handy tip to hang on to – just in case 🙂

Stanford Removing Catholic Saint Junipero Serra’s Name From Campus to Avoid Offending Native Americans ~ Because trying to carry out the Great Commission by saving souls from eternal damnation is now a crime in California? I’m offended ~

Father Junipero Serra is best known for being the 18th-century founder of the California missions. He was canonized a saint by the Catholic Church in 2015.

Progressive committee members felt that in spite of the significant role Junipero Serra played in California history, his “mission system inflicted great harm and violence on Native Americans.”

How so? Perhaps they’d be better off with their primitive-but-utopian ways? Progressive “feelings” and their arrogance in judging history by contemporary, “enlightened” standards is growing very tedious.

Speaking of Stanford (must be something in the water) ~Stanford Doctors: It’s Time To Ban All Semi-Automatic Firearms ~ No. It’s time to ban self-righteous Stanford doctors from attempting to infringe on our Second Amendment rights ~

The majority of guns you see are semi-automatic. And when I say majority, I mean 99 percent of all civilian firearms are semi-auto. Calling for a ban on semi-autos is essentially calling for a ban on all firearms.

March for Our Lives Cofounder Becomes Enlightened; Cameron Kasky regrets leading an uninformed charge for gun control after Parkland ~ Wow. You’ve got to respect this kid for his independent thinking. He actually sounds more mature than half the adults in the country ~

Kasky told Fox News radio on Wednesday that he has left the organization that he helped create and that he has regrets about some of the things that he has said since he entered the public spotlight […]

“This summer when March for Our Lives went on … tour … I met that person in Texas who’s got that semiautomatic weapon because that’s how they like to protect their family. I met the 50-some-odd-percent of woman who are pro-life, even though I thought it was preposterous that a woman could be pro-life and not pro-choice at the time. I learned that a lot of our issues politically come from a lack of understanding of other perspectives…”

Weekly Attendance of Religious Services, Regular Prayer Leads to Better Health and Well-Being for Youth ~ A new study from Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that ~

Young people who went to weekly religious services and prayed or meditated regularly enjoyed better mental health than others. They also enjoyed greater life satisfaction and positive affect […]

They had several character strengths. Fewer used marijuana. They engaged in early sexual activity less and ended up with fewer sexual partners in their life. Religious youth developed an interest in volunteering. They had a greater sense of mission. They were more forgiving.

Why do humans always have to re-discover stuff their grandparents already knew?

Some Are More Equal Than Others in Socialist Venezuela ~

(A) socialist regime once praised by The New York Times as both successful and sustainable, is teetering on the brink of collapse while its leaders are dining at fine restaurants […]

(W)hat makes this so galling is that in Maduro’s country, once one of the most prosperous in South America, the average Venezuelan starves in abject, state-created poverty.

Trump’s Face Lights Up After Polish President Floats Epic New Military Base Name ~ (Video) The president of Poland was visiting the White House on Tuesday. Although the Left wants us to believe all world leaders loathe Donald Trump, Andrzej Duda is apparently not one of them ~

After initially meeting for a discussion and taking questions in the Oval Office, the pair of presidents held a joint news conference during which the topic of a potential U.S. military base in Poland came up, and the proposed name for the future base floated by Duda brought a smile to Trump’s face and a twinkle to his eye.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I was smiling when talking to Mr. President and I said that I would very much like for us to set up a permanent American base in Poland, which we would call ‘Fort Trump,’” said Duda with a grin.

No wonder the mainstreams ignored this story. It sort of undermines their Trump-is-Putin’s-pawn narrative as well.

Proof that the Private Sector Is Better at Fighting Poverty than Bureaucrats ~ An inspiring business model in Fort Worth, Texas provides cleaning services while employing homeless and other needy people, helping them get a fresh start in life ~

Clean Slate is an initiative of the Fort Worth, Texas-based Presbyterian Night Shelter. While marketed as picking up trash for the city, the program goes well beyond public works. Clean Slate is a business, not a handout program. It is fully revenue-based, and operates as a contractor with businesses and entities in the area. […]

The ultimate goal of the program is to restore a sense of self worth to help people rebuild their lives. Rather than attempt to build their lives for them, Clean Slate provides opportunities for honest work and responsibility. This free-market approach adds up to more than the sum of its parts. The program is revenue-based and adds to the economic vibrancy of the area, but also adds the sense of accomplishment and dignity that only comes from work.

Today is the first day of autumn. But in Canada… It’s the first snowfall, Saskatoon! Flurries predicted for weekend forecast ~

A system is moving in from Alberta is bringing a mix of rain and snow to much of central Saskatchewan […]
 snowonthepumpkins
Predicted snowfall could turn a pumpkin patch into a winter wonderland.

Fast Times at Holton High

Updated: 9-28-18
Whoa. I’m glad I copied a bunch of CULT OF THE 1ST AMENDMENT’s blog post – because the site’s been vanished. Big Brother IS watching ~

 blogvanished9-28-18
~~~~~~~~~
So in this week’s episode of the tawdry Washington D.C. Reality Show, a fifty-something psychology professor, various demented Democrats and her cheerleaders in the mainstream media are busy smearing an accomplished, honorable, well-qualified candidate for the Supreme Court with an unsubstantiated tale of high school hijinks. Not only does the charge seem spurious and totally out of character for the judge, just how much do we know about the accuser herself, particularly about her youthful past? Brett Kavanaugh’s has been – until two minutes ago – completely unblemished and scandal-free. Can we say the same for Christine Blasey Ford?
Mediaite provides a brief glimpse from her recent past ~
Christine Blasey Ford is a clinical psychology professor connected to Stanford University. If you want to know what students have to say about her, you’re out of luck. RateMyProfessors.com has locked out access. (Her Facebook and LinkedIn account also seem to have been scrubbed.)
Even with the social media clean-up job, there’s still plenty of evidence she’s anti-Trump. According to Breitbart, Ford generated a stir at an anti-Trump protest last year wearing a custom version of the “p**** hats” worn during the Women’s March. She also signed a letter fighting Trump’s efforts to secure the border.
Holton-ArmsAnd now, thanks to an anonymous blogger who managed to copy several of Ford’s Holton-Arms High yearbook pages (before they were scrubbed from the internet – by the high school itself!), we have a much clearer picture of Ms. Ford in the early eighties. It’s impossible to tell who the citizen journalist behind CULT OF THE 1ST AMENDMENT is. The blog has just the one page – and a few pix – (and may only be up temporarily – who knows these days?) but it’s very revealing. Here’s the lead-in ~
On Monday Sept. 17th, Christine Blasey Ford’s high school yearbooks suddenly disappeared from the web. I read them days before, knew they would be scrubbed, and saved them. Why did I know they would be scrubbed? Because if roles were reversed, and Christine Blasey Ford had been nominated for the Supreme Court by President Trump, the headline by the resistance would be this:
“CHRISTINE BLASEY FORD AND THE DRUNKEN WHITE
PRIVILEGED RACIST PLAYGIRLS OF HOLTON-ARMS.”
While there’s only one yearbook photo of Christine included with this post (at a Halloween party – see below), the overall impression is that she was very much a part of the privileged party crowd at Holton-Arms. And that’s the atmosphere the blogger portrays via the various selections from the books.
Holton-Arms is a college-preparatory school for girls in grades 3–12, located in Bethesda, MD. which Ford attended for six years, graduating in 1984. This exposé features details from the school’s yearbook, the Scribe ~
The relevant issues are SCRIBE 82, SCRIBE 83 and SCRIBE 84, corresponding to Blaseys’s sophomore, junior and senior years, when she and her classmates (and Kavanaugh) were 15-17 year old juveniles.
To clarify ~
Brett Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Prep, graduating in the class of ’83. Blasey graduated from Holton-Arms in the class of ’84. The Georgetown Prep boys are mentioned affectionately multiple times in these brazen yearbooks.
Here are a few excerpts from the article ~
Scribe 84 is the yearbook for her senior year. Her name was Christine Blasey in high school, often referred to as “Chrissy”. In the image below, Blasey is pictured at a Halloween party in her junior year. The caption on the right says: “Lastly one cannot fail to mention the climax of the junior social scene, the party. Striving to extend our educational experience beyond the confines of the classroom, we played such intellectually stimulating games as Quarters, Mexican Dice and everyone’s favorite, Pass-Out, which usually resulted from the aforementioned two.”
ChrissyFord-Halloween
[I’m only including this in case the original post gets disappeared.]
10th grade seems to have been a ritual initiation into the “Holton party scene”. Another sophomore girl threw multiple all night benders, the highlight of which featured a male erotic dancer in gold g-string […]
1982 was a particularly wild year and Scribe ’82 published multiple pictures of minors drinking heavily, beer cans stacked up, liquor repeatedly glorified, “boys, beer and the ‘Zoo’ atmosphere’ […]
Numerous passages in the yearbooks discuss the drunken keg parties held while parents were away from home […]
Scribe ’83 joyfully recalls partying with the boys from Georgetown Prep, Kavanaugh’s high school. The editors captioned a collage of alcohol themed photos as follows: “In case you weren’t into the Holton party scene, here is a brief glimpse at one of the calmer get-togethers.” […]
Scribe ’82, pg. 260, shows racy images, including three minors dressed provocatively as Playboy bunnies. The caption states: “Beach week culminated the year for those of us lucky enough to go. With school and our minds in temporary recess, we were able to release all those troubling inhibitions of the past year. While dancing in the middle of coastal Highway, Ann [redacted last name] and friends picked up some men who passed out in their apartment…”
Before the Left levels a “Fake News” charge against these revelations, keep in mind that all this information can be confirmed by hard-copies of the “SCRIBE” for the three years in question (There must be copies out there somewhere.). These editions paint quite a lively picture of the cool kids at Holton; privileged party girls, a group that Christine Margaret Blasey seemed to be very much a part of.
ChristineBlaseyFordKavanaugh has understandably denied Ford’s allegations which – given what we do know of the man’s career and character – seem totally implausible. But considering what we’ve learned about her high school years, I’d like to propose a far more likely scenario:
Let’s suppose that “Chrissy,” while attending one of the numerous “boys and beer” events, had something happen to her while inebriated, possibly passed out, and can no longer remember when, where and who. Fast forward 36 years and along comes a golden opportunity to parlay those wild and crazy high school experiences into a gotcha moment for the Trump administration. Magically, Ford’s repressed memory kicks in – even though, as Al Perrotta at The Stream points out ~
• She doesn’t know the date, the week and the month. She isn’t even sure about the year.
• She doesn’t remember how the party came about.
• She doesn’t remember where the party was.
• She doesn’t know who owned the house.
• She doesn’t know who invited her.
• She doesn’t know how she got there.
• She doesn’t know how she got home.
She does remember drinking.
And somehow she knows that Brett Kavanaugh played a central role in her otherwise totally fuzzy recollection.
Right.
The scheming leftists are now absurdly referring to Ford as a survivor. “Survivor?” The only thing Chrissy managed to survive was the party scene at Holton High.
Added: ‘A Man of Honor, Integrity’: More High School Female Friends Defend Kavanaugh ~ Either Brett is a Jekyll/Hyde kind of guy, or Ford is hallucinating ~
“Those of us who know Brett best, now and in high school, know that he is a man of honor, integrity, and compassion. He has always been a good person and is a true friend,” said Meghan McCaleb.
McCaleb has known Kavanaugh since high school and her sister dated him.
The World’s War on Christendom – Latest Dispatch from the Front
noChristiansJohn15
Fulani militants continue to murder Christians in Nigeria with impunity. The barbaric Islamists are carrying out a jihad, currently focused on the northern past of the country. They’re simply killing innocents in cold blood. World Watch Monitor reports on the latest horrors ~
Last month, more than 20 people – including a pastor and four members of his family – were killed in various raids attributed to Fulani militants, as World Watch Monitor reported. Among them were Rev. Adamu Wurim Gyang, 50, and his three children, who were set ablaze and burnt beyond recognition, while his wife, Jummai, 45, was shot and left to die in a pool of blood when Fulanis stormed their Abonong village on 28 August.
Since then, the violence has continued, with more attacks in the same area and elsewhere.
On 6 September, four men lost their lives, while two others sustained bullet wounds as Fulani militants attacked their village of Nding Susut, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA).
Local resident James Pam, 34, told Watch Monitor that the killings came just two days after a peace meeting between members of the predominantly Christian farmers and the mainly Muslim Fulani herdsmen in Barkin Ladi.
“We thought everything was all right between us until this morning [6 Sept], around 6.30am, when we heard gunshot sounds,” he said. “We later found out that the Fulani militants killed some of our youths, who were on their way to farm.”
Nigeria-displacedChristians
Boko Haram is the other group of militants terrorizing Christians in Nigeria; more than 10,000 have been displaced by the ongoing violence. They’re still kidnapping, raping and murdering women and girls ~ Boko Haram kills midwife, threatens to kill other hostages, including Leah Sharibu, unless demands met ~
Boko Haram has killed an aid worker and threatened to kill three other hostages, including the Christian schoolgirl Leah Sharibu.
Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa, 25, who worked as midwife with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), had been abducted on 1 March, alongside two other health workers, when the militants attacked the north-eastern town of Rann, near the border with Cameroon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Meanwhile, in America, Democrat feminists who pretend to care about threatened and exploited women like this, are pushing a highly questionable 35 year-old accusation against a man with an otherwise honorable character and stellar reputation, in a desperate bid to ensure the right to kill their unborn children. You go girls (- straight to hell I’m afraid)!

Pray for them all.

Leftist priorities: More drugs; Less ICE

It’s a sad reality that American deaths from drug overdoses have been skyrocketing over the last decade. These statistics are two years old; note the sharply ascendant trajectory ~

overdosedeaths

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,

Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental death for Americans under age 50, killing more than 64,000 people in 2016[…]

Officials say preliminary data shows drug overdoses killed roughly 72,000 people across the U.S. in 2017.

[Tragically, these annual numbers are higher than the total number of troops we lost in Vietnam (under 60,000).]

This past March, the federal agency warned that the opioid crisis in the U.S. is accelerating, as deaths surge 30% nationally ~

Opioid overdoses experienced another dramatic spike over the past year across every region of the country, according to a report from federal health officials.

Data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tuesday show emergency room hospitalizations for opioid overdoses increased by 30 percent between the third quarters of 2016 and 2017 as opioid addiction continued its rapid spread throughout the population. While the jump in overdoses was more pronounced in certain regions of the country, every area experienced an increase, reports NPR.

Hospitalizations for overdoses rose by 69.7 percent in the Midwest, 40.3 percent in the West, 21.3 percent in the Northeast, and 20.2 percent in the Southwest. Overdoses in the Southeast rose at the slowest rate, increasing by 14 percent.

“We have an emergency on our hands,” said Anne Schuchat, acting director of the CDC, according to NPR. “The fast-moving opioid overdose epidemic continues and is accelerating. We saw, sadly, that in every region, in every age group of adults, in both men and women, overdoses from opioids are increasing.”

While dealing with this crisis will obviously require a multi-pronged solution, involving the private as well as public sector, preventing the drugs from getting into the country in the first place is certainly a priority.

Dave Brat (R-VA) recently spoke with Breitbart News about the crucial role that Immigration and Customs Enforcement plays in stopping drug traffic at the border ~

(Who is ICE?) “Those are the guys who are protecting us from the 200 million lethal doses of fentanyl that have come across the border in just the last year. And then the heroin spike and the opioid piece is still not solved … all of that ties into human trafficking.”

Recently some of our more radical friends on the Left have actually called for ICE to be shut down. Well great. That will would only exacerbate the crisis, as Brat pointed out ~

Abolishing ICE would have allowed more than 980,000 pounds of narcotics into the country last year. The Democrats’ abolish ICE plan would have also allowed 2,370 pounds of fentanyl and 6,967 pounds of heroin into the U.S. in 2017.

So by all means, lets elect more unhinged, lawless lefties, abolish ICE, open the borders and drive the opioid death rate off the charts!

abolishICE

Congress Joins President, First Lady in Focusing on Opioid Epidemic
HHS Awards Over $1 Billion to Combat the Opioid Crisis ~

This week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded over $1 billion in opioid-specific grants to help combat the crisis ravaging our country. The awards support HHS’s Five-Point Opioid Strategy, which was launched last year and enhanced this week. New data unveiled recently by HHS suggests that efforts are now yielding progress at the national level.

“Addressing the opioid crisis with all the resources possible and the best science we have is a top priority for President Trump and for everyone at HHS,” said Secretary Alex Azar. “The more than $1 billion in additional funding that we provided this week will build on progress we have seen in tackling this epidemic through empowering communities and families on the frontlines.”

“Opioids: The Crisis Next Door” ~ Website hosted by the White House where everyday Americans can upload videos of themselves describing their experiences with the epidemic.

Updated 9-21-18
Added: What the media gets wrong about opioids ~ The mainstream narrative about the opioid crisis is that it’s the result of people turning to street drugs for pain relief after their prescriptions run out. The reality is quite different. And solving the problem in a society that’s increasingly dysfunctional isn’t going to be easy ~

Most opioid patients never get addicted and most people who do get addicted didn’t start their opioid addiction with a doctor’s prescription. The result of this skewed public conversation around opioids has been policies focused relentlessly on cutting prescriptions, without regard for providing alternative treatment for either pain or addiction [..]

Most of those who misuse opioids have also already gone far beyond experimentation with marijuana and alcohol when they begin: 70 percent have previously taken drugs such as cocaine or methamphetamine.

Caveat: The author of this article feels that somehow racism has clouded efforts to address this issue over the decades, dating back to those infamous racists Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Um, no. (Shades of Cultural Marxism.)

Government needs to stop subsidizing the private sector

This story ties in with my last post in that it illustrates the real-world results of Obamanomics. Although this was an Illinois state-funded project – not federal – it’s a noteworthy example of what happens when progressives start throwing our money around ~ Taxpayer-Subsidized Railcar Plant Closes After Six-Year Run.

Remember all that stimulus money thrown away on green technology? (Example after example after example) This project was yet another ill-conceived waste of taxpayers cash ~

The plant opened in 2012 after Illinois officials offered Nippon Sharyo an incentive package worth more than $4.7 million, including training funds, grants, and corporate tax credits. Additionally, the Illinois Department of Transportation spent $5.5 million to build a rail spur to the new factory.

State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, says it’s not the ending anyone wanted.

“It’s really unfortunate to see,” Demmer said. “Both the local and state government did a lot to try to bring in Nippon Sharyo in the beginning. I don’t think we can look at this and say it was a very ideal outcome. Certainly not happy with the fact they lasted only six years there.”

Demmer says there is no mechanism in place for the state to attempt to recover any of the tax credits or grants awarded to the company.

NipponSharyo
Jason Anderson, economic development director for the city of Rochelle prefers to look on the bright side. He argues that despite the closure, the community retains some benefits ~

“As a result of Nippon Sharyo, we built about $11-million of rail on the city of Rochelle railroad system. And today, our rail system is at its capacity with all the industry built around it,” Anderson said. “Nippon Sharyo spent hundreds of thousands of dollars training people from the ground up in machining and welding and parts manufacturing. All these companies in northern Illinois looking to hire trained workers have hired these people.”

But was it worth $10 million?

At its peak, Nippon Sharyo employed about 600 workers at the location, but layoffs began in 2015 after failed safety tests on certain cars. The company also was fined $19,550 that year by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing workers to dangerous conditions.

When a business’s risk of failure is mitigated by subsidies, or tax credits, or interest-free loans from the government, doesn’t it follow that its compulsion for success isn’t going to be quite as strong as it would otherwise be? Where’s the incentive for cost-efficient production if there’s not that much (of your own money) at stake? Additionally, the whole process of handing out deals to favorite businesses or industries simply encourages more unethical lobbying and cronyism.

The motto of this tale: When the government tries to pick winners, we all lose.

Obamanomics; the sad reality

Last week, Mr. Audacious – aka – Barack H. Obama – brazenly claimed that Donald Trump couldn’t take credit for the booming economy – that it was somehow the result of actions the O’ministration had taken. Um, no. That may play with his fact-free followers, but it’s far from true.

Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Kevin Hassett felt obliged to set the record straight for the former president during a press briefing last Monday. As he pointed out, small business optimism, business investment, capital goods orders and other indicators were all trending down – until Donald Trump moved into the White House. Now those same markers are headed sharply in the opposite direction. Whatever Obama started, Trump quickly reversed, and the country is reaping the benefits ~

Furthermore, as John R. Lott Jr. reminds us ~

People forget that stocks were completely flat for two years, from the end of December 2014 right up until the presidential election in 2016. Right after the election, the stock market around the world and especially in the United States started soaring.
At the close of business on Friday (Sept. 7th), the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 25,916, up 42 percent from the day before the 2016 election.

Sorry Mr. O, you’re certainly entitled to your own opinion – but not to your own facts.

Saturday Shorts – 9-15-18

sshorts9-17-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Bob Woodward Has A Trail Of Accuracy Issues That Nobody Is Talking About ~ Which makes his new book about Donald Trump, “Fear,” more than a little suspect. Writing at the Daily Caller, Peter Hasson gives numerous examples of Woodward’s shaky veracity ~

Woodward has a muddy history with a trail of allegations that he embellished the truth or otherwise misled his readers.

Another outrageously irresponsible journalist ~ Why Joe Scarborough Is A Disgrace To America ~ Media malpractice at its most egregious. Scarborough claims President Trump is worse for America than the 9-11 terrorist attack ~

His column — published on the eve of 9/11 — titled “Trump is harming the dream of America more than any foreign adversary ever could,” makes illogical jumps and leaps to tie the cost of the foreign intervention following 9/11 to President Trump […]

It is a shame that Scarborough chose to exploit a day of grieving and memorial for innocent lives in order to take a swipe at the president. Scarborough’s actions are a disgrace to those who lost their lives and their families, and to the values that keep America together.

And then there’s the New York Times ~$52,000 curtains for Nikki Haley’s office were bought by Obama’s State Department, not Trump’s ~ NYT deliberately misreports story on front page; prints correction on page 10 – after the misleading version had already gone viral.

Russia in the news ~ Russian warships hold drills in Bering Sea in huge military exercise ~ What Russian Collusion?

Russian warships held drills in the Bering Sea which separates Russia from Alaska, part of Moscow’s biggest military maneuvers since the fall of the Soviet Union, footage aired by the Ministry of Defence showed on Friday.

And, (more) Evidence of ‘drilling’ found aboard the International Space Station

Now a source close to the Russian space agency Roscosmos has admitted the damage was more extensive than previously

‘Traces of drilling have been found not only inside the spacecraft’s living compartment,’ said the source. The damage was also ‘on the screen of the anti-meteorite shield that covers the spacecraft from the outside and is installed 15 millimetres from the pressurised hull’ […]

Rogozin said it was ‘a matter of honour…to find whoever was guilty’ of causing the spacecraft damage – and ‘whether it was deliberate’.

Luxury Socialism and the End of the Working Left ~ Daniel Greenfield analyzes the latest incarnation of collectivism ~

Luxury Socialism has won the free college battle on the Democrat side and is pushing onward to Guaranteed Minimum Income or welfare-for-all. Deploying universal welfare during a period of huge job growth and record low unemployment isn’t a response to economic deprivation. It’s “Luxury for All”.

Luxury for All is the inevitable next step for a welfare state that is running out of things to cover. Who needs necessities, when the government can give you luxuries?

Alameda County, CA – Castro Valley man allegedly cursed Trump, tried to stab GOP congressional candidate ~ This story sure got buried in a hurry. More unhinged violence from the Left ~

A Castro Valley man shouting profanities about President Trump attacked a Republican congressional candidate who was working an election booth at a town festival, threatening him and trying to stab him with a switchblade, authorities and the candidate said Tuesday.

Rift Between Police, Feds Allowed New Mexico Terror Compound To Fester ~ As I was saying ~

While federal authority over terrorism cases predominates, the New Mexico case feeds local law enforcement’s growing perception that they can’t assume the FBI has the situation under control. It also indicates the difficulties for local law enforcement when complicated cases with possible terror links are suddenly thrust into their laps […]

We should continue to expect better cooperation between all levels of law enforcement in the effort to defeat jihadist terror. But at the end of the day, local law enforcement should not accept having their “hands tied” from protecting their communities nor take a back seat on counterterrorism.

South Africa in Recession After Land Threat: ‘Shocking Drop in Agriculture’ ~ When the government announces that it’s going to steal your land, why would you continue to work it? ~

The recession is not quite “shocking” to opponents of the South African government’s land reform policy, which is ostensibly aimed at redressing racial inequalities in land ownership, but which critics have called a threat to property rights in general.

Though the policy only began in earnest last month, following a televised address by Cyril Ramaphosa, the newly-installed president had already declared that the government would pursue “expropriation without compensation” in February, during his “State of the Nation” address.

Dem Congressional Candidate: ‘I Worked in Opposition to U.S. Policy in Central America’ ~ Of course you did. You’re a superior being; a reality-free leftist ~

Lisa Brown (running for Congress in Washington state) worked and taught in Nicaragua in 1990, and the Examiner included an old news article from that year that described her time in the country as a professor. Brown was teaching a macroeconomics seminar at the University of Central America and was, according to the article, “one of hundreds of so-called ‘internacionalistas,’ cooperating with Nicaragua’s outgoing Sandinista government by offering technical skills.”

The “internacionalistas” strongly supported Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega—head of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, a democratic socialist political party—who was defeated in the 1990 presidential election.

And now Brown’s hero, back in power since 2007, is rapidly destroying his country – on the path to utopia.

Kamala Harris is rapidly gaining a reputation as the most dishonest senator ~ Democrat darling of the Kavanaugh hearings ~

Harris is lying. If you don’t believe me, maybe you’ll believe the failing grades that the left-leaning PolitiFact (they went easy — she deserved the full “pants on fire” grade) and the Washington Post (four Pinocchios) both gave her for lying about Kavanaugh’s views.

Speaking of delusional Democrats ~ Rising Socialist Candidate’s Bizarre Past Exposed Days Before Election ~ Running for the NY state senate, Julia Salazar’s reality seems a bit distorted ~

Salazar, 27, faced criticism for saying she was an immigrant from Colombia who struggled financially when she was actually born in Florida and had hundreds of thousands of dollars in a trust fund. She was scrutinized, too, over a political and religious conversion during her years at Columbia University, where she transformed from a Republican, anti-abortion Christian to a hard-left, Jewish Democrat. Gym Owner’s Ad Containing Cross Returned to High School Football Field ~ Occasionally in this fallen world the Right prevails 🙂 ~

Bossier City, Louisiana – Army vet Billy Weatherall knows something about fighting in battle. So when a local school decided to remove his gym’s logo from their football field because it contained a cross, Weatherall knew it was a battle he had to fight. Although Weatherall was prepared for a drawn-out legal case, it didn’t take long. Weatherall gives all the praise to God.

The Trump Doctrine

Our delusional mainstream media frequently laments the alleged damage President Trump has done to America’s standing in the global community. If we check the actual record though, exactly the opposite is true. Here’s a brief list of Trump’s significant accomplishments of the international front ~

Undid the disastrous Iran nuclear deal
• Strengthened our historic ties with Israel (after they were severely strained by the Obama Administration) – including recognizing Jerusalem as the capital
• Standing up to the terrorists running Gaza
• Ditto, the tyrant running Turkey
• ISIS territory has been significantly reduced
Cleaning up Obama’s mess in Burma
• Made diplomatic progress with North Korea – unlike any of his predecessors (convinced them to return remains of our war dead)
Supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression
• Standing up to the bullies at the U.N., including withdrawing from the farcical U.N. Human Rights Council

In summary, it’s all good! We’re strengthening our relationships with our traditional, long time allies, and defying tyrants everywhere. We’re standing up to all the right bullies.

This week there was another occasion to celebrate – for us regular Americans that is – Holy Crap. John Bolton Was En Fuego At the Federalist Society.

JohnBolton9-2018Speaking in Washington D.C. on Monday, the president’s national security advisor was emphatic that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has no jurisdiction over the United States or any of its citizens. He was reacting to the ICC’s proposal for an investigation into alleged crimes committed by members of the U.S. military who served in Afghanistan, an action which represents a direct challenge to our national sovereignty ~

“Today, on the eve of September 11th, I want to deliver a clear and unambiguous message on behalf of the President of the United States,” Bolton said. “The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court.” […]

“We will provide no assistance to the ICC. And we certainly will not join the ICC,” he said. “We will let the ICC die on its own. After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us.”

Boom. (You can watch the full speech HERE.)

#MAGA! Reporting on Bolton’s speech, “streiff” at Red State, referenced an Atlantic article by Jeffrey Goldberg. Meant to be smugly derogatory, for those of us who have been thoroughly disgusted by Barack Hussein Obama apologizing for every ill in the world as if America were responsible for all of them, this definition of the Trump Doctrine is a refreshing rallying cry ~

The best distillation of the Trump Doctrine I heard, though, came from a senior White House official with direct access to the president and his thinking. I was talking to this person several weeks ago, and I said, by way of introduction, that I thought it might perhaps be too early to discern a definitive Trump Doctrine.

“No,” the official said. “There’s definitely a Trump Doctrine.”

What is it?, I asked. Here is the answer I received:

“The Trump Doctrine is ‘We’re America, Bitch.’ That’s the Trump Doctrine.”

I love it! Sounds like something Gen. George S. Patton may have said. After eight years of progressives’ concerted efforts to destroy our national self-esteem, it’s awesome to once again have American leaders who are actually pro-American. As Red State summarizes, it was long overdue ~

When the ICC was established its mandate was specifically to investigate crimes in areas, like Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, where there was no functioning legal system to investigate atrocities. Like so many international bodies, it has been weaponized and directed at the United States and at Israel. By putting the ICC on notice of what it can expect if it decides to move out of its very narrow lane, Bolton has probably prevented the US from ever having to act on his promised actions, plus, heads have exploded all over Europe and the Third World. And that is a good thing.

America first. It’s an excellent policy. Not because we’re aggressive, arrogant or imperialistic. We are none of those things. But because when America is strong, the world is a safer place.

Say “No” to the swoosh. Just Do It.

Many sports fans have been scratching their heads over Nike’s perplexing choice of Colin Kaepernick as the new face of their signature “Just Do It” campaign.

Kaepernick-copsox
In the case of an NFL benchwarmer and indiscriminate, cop antagonist we have to wonder, just do what exactly?

• Act like a self-serving prima donna?
• Demand affirmative action for professional sports (regardless of talent)?
• Disrespect law enforcement, the military and American patriots?

Frankly, whatever he’s been “doing,” he’s done enough already. But to Nike apparently, it’s all good. Which I guess shouldn’t surprise us considering the company’s leftist tendencies.

Progressives are well known for their hypocrisy, and Nike is no exception. As the New York Post reminds us, the sportswear giant is regularly listed among the worst of the worst in operating Asian factories under draconian authorities and inhumane conditions.

And Iranian-born Anni Cyrus pointed out several months ago that, knowingly or not, Nike is supporting Muslim suppression of women by manufacturing their new line of hijabs for athletes. (If you don’t think the hijab is a tool used by Muslim men to keep women subservient, recall the women jailed in Iran for removing theirs in protest.)

Kaepernick-NikeIt’s no real surprise that Nike is a big donor to the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. For Nike, believing in something means the promotion of underage sexual activity, the sale of fetal body parts and the cover-up of sexual abuse.

And now we actually have Nike’s complicity in Kaeprnick’s hatred of law enforcement. Lest anyone doubt that Kaepernick really does loathe cops, a year ago the Daily Mail reported ~ Colin Kaepernick donated $25,000 to group named after convicted cop killer and former Black Liberation Army member Assata Shakur who broke out of jail and fled to Cuba ~

Shakur was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1973 shooting death of New Jersey state trooper Werner Foerster and sentenced to life in prison, but staged a daring jailbreak and now lives as a fugitive in Cuba.

Kaepernick, who is well known for his protests against police during the national anthem as a former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, made the donation as part of his pledge to donate $100,000 a month for 10 months to ‘organizations working in oppressed communities’.

Finally, if you need any more evidence whose side he’s on, this Iranian despot is one of Kaeperick’s biggest fans ~

Nike knew exactly what they were getting in this bitter ex-NFLer. Somehow – for the sportswear manufacturer – “Just Do It” never seems to include doing the right thing.

Nike pushes harmful narrative of police brutality ~ Larry Elder with a few inconvenient facts ~

Remember, the protest began as a criticism of the alleged widespread institutional racism by cops. Kaepernick said, “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Actually, the data say otherwise. The Washington Post Fatal Force database reports that 19 unarmed blacks were killed by the police in 2016. Almost 8,000 blacks were homicide victims in 2016, and most died at the hands of another black. Unarmed does not mean not dangerous. Ferguson’s Michael Brown was unarmed, but his DNA was found on the police officer’s gun, indicating that Brown was trying to grab the gun.

Patriot Day

Heavenly Father, on this date seventeen years ago, many first responders gave their lives to save others. Today, move us to offer ourselves in love and service to others. We pray that through our witness the Spirit will be at work, calling people to faith in Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself to save us. Hear our prayer in His name. Amen.
