Ocasio-Cortez voters may have flunked history – or at least missed the chapters on the epic failures of socialism in the 20th century – but they might want to catch up on current events before they elect the Democratic Socialist to Congress next fall.
The sudden rise to fame of young Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who just ousted a 10-term House of Representatives’ incumbent in the New York primary, is evidence of the sorry state of public education in America today. Students apparently graduate with no understanding of American or world history, much less civics and current events.
The 28 year-old former Bernie Sanders campaign worker stands for open borders (an end to national sovereignty?), promises free college tuition for all, thinks housing is a “human right,” seems to have anti-Semitic leanings and believes the bigger the government the better.
Although Ocasio-Cortez appears to be of Hispanic heritage, she clearly lacks any perspective on recent developments in the socialist paradise of Venezuela ~

Socialism always appeals to that naive, idealistic sense of “justice” so many young people possess. First, SCOTUS upheld President Trump’s travel ban (deliberately mischaracterized by the Left as a Muslim ban) on immigrants from countries hostile to the U.S. and/or those with ties to terrorism ~
The Court’s language was strong, with Roberts noting that the president “lawfully exercised the broad discretion granted to him under Section 1182(f) to suspend the entry of aliens into the United States.”
The Court also noted that the president’s interest in preserving national security, particularly in light of terrorism concerns, overrides concerns pertaining to the free exercise of religion as codified in the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Opponents of the ban had tried to make the case that, because the ban affected several Muslim countries, the religion itself was targeted.
Then, in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra, they found that the California law which forced pregnancy centers to steer women to abortionists “unduly burdens protected speech.”Attorney General Jeff Sessions lauded the decision ~
“Speakers should not be forced by their government to promote a message with which they disagree, and pro-life pregnancy centers in California should not be forced to advertise abortion and undermine the very reason they exist.”
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday that nonunion government workers can’t be forced to pay dues or other fees to support a union, further diminishing the power of organized labor and setting up what right-to-work proponents called the “hard work” of protecting free speech rights for the nation’s government employees […]
In their decision in Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, the justices said “agency shop” laws requiring nonunion government workers to pay union fees violate the First Amendment rights of workers who object to the political agenda of public employee unions.
“Compelling individuals to mouth support for views they find objectionable violates that cardinal constitutional command, and in most contexts, any such effort would be universally condemned,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito, author of the court’s opinion.
“This is the biggest victory for workers’ rights in a generation. The First Amendment guarantees each of us, as individuals, the right to choose which groups we will and won’t support with our money. Today the Supreme Court recognized that no one should be forced to give up that right just to be allowed to work in government. The Court recognized that unions have the right to organize and to advocate for the policies they believe in – but they don’t have a special right to force people to pay for their lobbying. They have to play by the same rules as everyone else.”

The Janus ruling affects about 5 million government employees in 22 states who no longer will be required either to join a union or pay related fees as a condition of employment.
In the reality-free zone that leftists inhabit, once they decree something is so, no pushback can be tolerated. Their pet issues (Union’s progressive activism, open borders, abortion, national healthcare, LGBTQ “rights”) have already been settled, no further discussion allowed. That’s why they become unhinged when challenged on any of their anti-American positions.
Remember decades ago when “intolerance” was the worst sin progressives could pin on you? On Monday, The New York Times ran an op-ed from Bryan W. Van Norden, professor of philosophy at Wuhan University, Yale-NUS College and Vassar College, calling for de-platforming of all conservative dissenters. Why? Because those opinions are bad, of course.
“If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Waters said.

To some extent, Trump invites this sort of reaction. Then again, to some extent, political Trump exists because of the decades of hyperbolic attacks on Republicans. Fact is, Democrats make little distinction between soft-spoken moderates like Paul Ryan or crude sometimes-conservatives like Trump. Democrats have been comparing Republicans to Nazis since the 1960s.
Lost in all the ginned-up hysteria over illegal aliens, amid the baseless outrage over Trump (most of the malcontents can’t even stammer out a coherent response if you ask what specifically the president has done to upset them), this happened last week ➡ Trump Administration Pulls US Out of UN Human Rights Council.
Conflating this story with the heart-wrenching coverage of illegal immigrant families torn apart at the border, some in the media did cover the story, but only as a means to further characterize the president as a callous brute, indifferent to all human suffering. Of course the facts don’t support that image.
The reality is, the UN Human Rights Council has been a complete farce since it was formed in 2006. Considering that it has condemned the state of Israel 78 times in the last 12 years (more than the rest of the world combined), it should more accurately be named the Anti-Israel Council. This anti-Semitic stance led the George W. Bush administration to boycott the Council for three years.
Of course Barack Obama – no doubt approving of the group’s strange definition of “human rights abuses” – promptly joined when he became president. He apparently saw no irony in the fact that countries like China, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Venezuela, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Pakistan are all members of the council. But in reality, the idea that these nations – each guilty of numerous human rights violations themselves – presume to sit in judgement of western democracies (most especially Israel), is preposterous.
Though I don’t agree with every position Ambassador Nikki Haley takes, she is definitely to be congratulated on this move ~
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States announced Tuesday it was leaving the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, with Ambassador Nikki Haley calling it “an organization that is not worthy of its name.”
Haley, Trump’s envoy to the U.N., said the U.S. had given the human rights body “opportunity after opportunity” to make changes. She lambasted the council for “its chronic bias against Israel” […]
“We take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights,” Haley said.
“When a so-called Human Rights Council cannot bring itself to address the massive abuses in Venezuela and Iran, and it welcomes the Democratic Republic of Congo as a new member,” she continued, “the council ceases to be worthy of its name.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, appearing alongside Haley at the State Department, said there was no doubt that the council once had a “noble vision.”
But today we need to be honest,” Pompeo said. “The Human Rights Council is a poor defender of human rights.”
Haley cited longstanding U.S. complaints that the 47-member council is biased against Israel. She had been threatening the pull-out since last year unless the council made changes advocated by the U.S. “Regrettably, it is now clear that our call for reform was not heeded,” Haley said.
Haley indicated that the US was willing to consider rejoining the council if reformed were enacted to address her criticisms.
“We have used America’s voice and vote to defend human rights at the UN every day,” she concluded, “and we will continue to do so.”
After eight long years of the O’Ministration cozying up to dictators and alienating our allies, it’s reassuring to see the adults are back in charge of international affairs.
The Council voted to condemn Israel on June 13 for excessive force against Palestinians protesting on the Gaza Strip, but the General Assembly’s text failed to mention Hamas.
“The nature of this resolution clearly demonstrates that politics is driving the day. It is totally one-sided. It makes not one mention of the Hamas terrorists who routinely initiate the violence in Gaza,” Haley told the Council.
Ahead of the final UN vote condemning US recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley was unequivocal in her condemnation of the organization’s thuggish behavior.

Our nation is right now on the verge of making an existential decision. Will we have borders and enforce our laws? Or will we invite all 147 million would-be immigrants who told Gallup they want to move here to grab the nearest child, and sneak across our borders? Will we eliminate ICE, as NY governor’s candidate Cynthia Nixon is demanding?
Will we follow the Congressional Democrats, who’ve written a bill that would let any criminal within 150 miles of the border or port of entry stay with his family? Will we obey bishops and pastors who are de facto demanding open borders, despite the vast human death toll that a wave of children marching through the desert will suffer?
The choice is ours. If we passively let the media and other elites make it for us, then in the post-sovereign chaos that engulfs what was once America, the facts will no longer matter.
The FBI has apparently been so very busy chasing Russian white rabbits that they simply haven’t been able to address credible threats to out national security. Oddly enough they seem to have little interest in Imran Awan and his shady clan of Pakistani Muslims.
Awan, an information technology (IT) administrator worked for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for more than 12 years and was given unrestricted access to DNC computers and data systems. He was employed by dozens of other Democrats in the same capacity – with the same lax security.
Last summer Awan was charged with bank fraud in connection with wiring $283,000 from the Congressional Federal Credit Union to his native Pakistan. But it’s his suspected hijacking of sensitive data that should be cause for real concern. As Andrew C. McCarthy reported last August ~
Awan and his family cabal of fraudsters (a couple brothers and their wives) had access for years to the e-mails and other electronic files of members of the House’s Intelligence and Foreign Affairs Committees. It turns out they were accessing members’ computers without their knowledge, transferring files to remote servers, and stealing computer equipment — including hard drives that Awan & Co. smashed to bits of bytes before making tracks.
The House Office of Inspector General claimed in late 2016 that the Awan family logged into members’ servers they had no business accessing, in some cases after they’d been fired. Prosecutors allege the family also ordered equipment – sometimes shipped to their residence – using invoices falsified to make it easier for equipment to disappear, and took measures to cover their tracks.
The FBI began surveilling them, but prosecutors contend in court papers that the Awans likely “knew they were under investigation,” and they wired $300,000 to Pakistan. Federal agents arrested Imran at the airport in July trying to fly to Pakistan, and charged Imran and his wife with bank fraud involving money they wired overseas.
However, months later, authorities have not charged the couple with the more serious “unauthorized access” described in the IG’s investigation and backed up by server logs. Capitol Hill officials involved in oversight of the case say the reason is that Democratic employers are acting like “hostile victims” and are refusing to press charges.
Why wouldn’t Democrats cooperate in the investigation (other than the fact that they’re obstructionists by nature)? Well, considering the multiple allegations of fraud, intimidation and other threatening behavior – even physical abuse (and polygamy 😯 ) – against Imran and his entire gang, that the Daily Caller News Foundation uncovered, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that they’ve engaged in extortion as well ~
Given Democrats’ keen attention to political cyber breaches in the wake of the hack of the Democratic National Committee and other high-profile incidents, fellow IT aides and Republicans have offered theories to explain their uncharacteristic silence in this case: Blackmail or fear of retaliation by the Awans, who could read all the emails and files of 1 in 5 House Democrats, in the form of releasing that data or other information if they dare speak out against them.
That theory is strengthened by a yearlong investigation by TheDCNF (the Daily Caller News Foundation): Court filings and interviews show Imran has been accused of allegedly invoking his congressional position to intimidate immigrants, summoning political favors to make criminal charges go away, ordering witnesses not to cooperate with police, and enlisting police resources to bully people.
The most egregious incident of possible obstruction came after the IG determined that the House Democratic Caucus server was the epicenter of the suspected cybersecurity breach. There were indications the server might have been secretly collecting data from numerous offices, and it was uploading data offsite, an IG presentation said. Soon after, that entire server-turned-evidence was physically stolen, according to three government officials.
Imran’s entire family, plus a couple associates, were on the House payroll ostensibly working as IT administrators until they were banned from the House network on Feb. 2, 2017. The group collected a total of $7 million in salary even though some did not have any background in IT, and there are indications some were no-show workers, or “ghost employees.” Democrats have refused to say whether they ever saw some of the crew, such as Rao Abbas, whose most recent job experience was at McDonald’s. Abbas appeared on the payroll of numerous House Democrats soon after the Awans owed him money in a potential lawsuit, according to court documents.
(W)hen a House Office of Inspector General cybersecurity investigation found that Awan made “unauthorized access” to House servers, including the House Democratic Caucus’ shortly before the election, Wasserman Schultz became “frantic, not normal,” “making the rounds” to House officials in an attempt to kill the investigation, one House employee told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
[Even better, Wasserman Schultz’s brother is a federal prosecutor in the same office handling the Awan case and has tweeted about it. 😯 ]
One way to keep someone silent is to make sure you find them a job you can control. An old trick in the Clinton political and crony playbook.

The records obtained as part of Judicial Watch’s lawsuit show that Mueller, who served 12 years as FBI chief, met with the Islamist organizations on February 8, 2012 to hear their demands. Shortly later the director assured the Muslim groups that he had ordered the removal of presentations and curricula on Islam from FBI offices nationwide. The purge was part of a broader Islamist operation designed to influence the opinions and actions of persons, institutions, governments and the public at-large.
And this same Robert Mueller has the audacity to investigate Donald Trump for Russian collusion?! He deliberately ignores the obvious threat from organizations like CAIR, Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Brotherhood and Pakistani Islamists, and pretends Moscow is the real menace.

As Gomert points out, Awan worked for 40-50 different Congressional Democrats (Daily Caller has a handy list HERE), none of whom – oddly enough – ever bothered with a background check. And none apparently thought it strange that he would spend 3-9 months every year in Pakistan.
While Gohmert sticks up for the honest people still working in the FBI – who actually take their oaths seriously – he notes that unfortunately there are now two kinds of justice on the Hill. Exactly right. One for the Swamp creatures and one for the rest of us.
“We need someone assigned to the Awan case that will protect congress from further breaches and from the Awan crime family… for heavens sake, we need someone in the FBI to step up and do their job!”
This is just one of many shoes waiting to drop from the Democrat’s centipede of corruption. Crimes were committed here, possibly including Wasserman Schultz and leading Democrats. Yet a cover-up could be in the works. Let’s not take our eyes off this corner of the swamp.
Mueller’s Messed Up Mine Field ~ Because the defendants are pleading “not guilty,” Mueller now has to show his evidence for more than a dozen indictments of Russian nationals and three Russian internet marketing companies (in connection with the Russian collusion farce)… but it appears he has none!

Remember the drowned Syrian boy story? The one the European progressive media used as agit-prop to guilt western Europeans into effectively committing nationcide by opening their borders to ever-growing hoards of third-world immigrants? It actually turned out to be one of the original examples of Fake News. The Daily Caller helped expose the charade in this Sept. 2015 story ~
Details about the Syrian family of the three-year old boy, who drowned as they made their way to Europe from Turkey on a small dingy, began to emerge recently and some things do not add up.
Originally described as desperate refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war, it turns out the boy and his family had lived in Turkey for a year or more ~
According to The Wall Street Journal, Abdullah Kurdi, the little boy’s father, was living in a relatively safe area in a Turkish town for three years while working on construction sites for 50 Turkish lira (roughly $17) a day.
However, Kurdi told a Syrian radio station it was not enough to support himself and his family and he relied on his sister Tima Kurdi, who is a 20-year resident of Canada, to assist in paying the rent.
According to the sister, Kurdi’s father advised his son to leave Turkey and go to Europe and have his teeth fixed. Once he reached Europe, he was told to find a way to bring his entire family over from Turkey.
So much for the gut-wrenching refugees-fleeing-for-their-lives narrative.
In the same way that the open borders-promoting media saturated their news coverage with that story and the iconic picture, the mainstreams today are obsessing over illegal immigrants’ children. They’re peddling the same brand of deceitful propaganda. (The original photos they tried to shock us with were four years old.)
Multiple stories about those family detention centers written during the Obama era–just not by the mainstream media. In particular, dozens of stories about the Nogales Placement Center in Nogales, Arizona particular were written by journalists at Shadowproof, a reader-supported media outlet, alone. Journalists for Shadowproof also frequently reported on the T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor, Texas. Most media declined to investigate these facilities until fairly recently.
Second, the leftist autocrats and their media puppets are completely misrepresenting the situation on the border. Families who arrive at an official border crossing requesting asylum are not separated. It’s only those who are apprehended while entering illegally that are faced with that outcome.

The Trump administration isn’t changing the rules that pertain to separating an adult from the child. Those remain the same. Separation happens only if officials find that the adult is falsely claiming to be the child’s parent, or is a threat to the child, or is put into criminal proceedings.
It’s the last that is operative here. The past practice had been to give a free pass to an adult who is part of a family unit. The new Trump policy is to prosecute all adults. The idea is to send a signal that we are serious about our laws and to create a deterrent against re-entry. (Illegal entry is a misdemeanor, illegal re-entry a felony.)
Imagine that. Trump (and everyone who voted for him no doubt) actually think that breaking our immigration laws should have consequences.
When a migrant is prosecuted for illegal entry, he or she is taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals. In no circumstance anywhere in the U.S. do the marshals care for the children of people they take into custody. The child is taken into the custody of HHS, who cares for them at temporary shelters.
Lowry make several important points about this contentious situation ~
1) Family units can go home quickly.
The option that both honors our laws and keeps family units together is a swift return home after prosecution. But immigrant advocates hate it because they want the migrants to stay in the United States.
2) There’s a better way to claim asylum.
if a migrant does have a credible fear of persecution, there is a legitimate way to pursue that claim, and it does not involve entering the United States illegally. First, such people should make their asylum claim in the first country where they feel safe, i.e., Mexico or some other country they are traversing to get here. Second, if for some reason they are threatened everywhere but the United States, they should show up at a port of entry and make their claim there rather than crossing the border illegally.
3) There is a significant moral cost to not enforcing the border.
(U)nder current policy and with the current resources, the only practical alternative is letting family units who show up at the border live in the country for the duration. Not only does this make a mockery of our laws, it creates an incentive for people to keep bringing children with them.
Needless to say, children should not be making this journey that is fraught with peril. But there is now a premium on bringing children because of how we have handled these cases. They are considered chits.
4) Congress can fix this.
Congress can change the rules so the Flores consent decree (which essentially say minors in family units must be held separately) will no longer apply, and it can appropriate more money for family shelters at the border. This is an obvious thing to do that would eliminate the tension between enforcing our laws and keeping family units together.
The Trump administration is throwing as many resources as it can at the border to expedite the process, and it desperately wants the Flores consent decree reversed. Despite some mixed messages, if the administration had its druthers, family units would be kept together and their cases settled quickly.
Of course the mainstreams have no interest in actually having an intelligent conversation about any of these specific issues. They’ve got an open-borders agenda to push. Can’t let a good crisis go to waste – even a totally phony one.
Let’s start with the fact that Democrats are desperate. Republican economic policies, pursued by the Trump administration and enacted by the Republican Congress, have our economy humming along at a historic rate. Overseas, the Trump administration has moved to advance America’s trade interests and to neutralize some of the principal threats against us, including that from North Korea.
What is a loyal Democrat to do? Change the subject. Hence the obsession, which has blown up over the past few days, with the alleged separation of parents from their children at the country’s Southern border.
The Obama administration failed to protect thousands of Central American children who have flooded across the U.S. border since 2011, leaving them vulnerable to traffickers and to abuses at the hands of government-approved caretakers, a Senate investigation has found.
Fox’s Tucker Carlson exposed the glaring hypocrisy of the mainstreams and other progressives when it comes to their latest outrage du jour –children of illegal alien parents – with a couple tweets today. This also ties in with my point about the denigration of fathers and the Left’s deliberate attack on the nuclear family in yesterday’s post ~
That’s why they’re always lecturing you about the patriarchy and the evil of the nuclear family. Millions and millions of American kids are growing up with one parent at home thanks to their policies. That’s fine with them.
