Erdoğan launches a jihad against the infidels – more dead Christians! Somehow the Turkish tyrant managed to convince Donald Trump that moving our troops out of the way, and letting him attack the Kurds (even though they’re are actually in Syria), was a stellar idea. Well Mr. President, their blood is on your head!
And by the way, for those saying we need to bring our troops home, we shouldn’t be fighting other country’s wars, do you mean all our troops? Across the globe? Or just the couple hundred in Syria?
Our military is currently deployed in 177 countries. [Fun fact: There are more troops in Italy (12,000) right now than there are in Afghanistan (9000).] Very few are actively engaged in conflicts. They’re there as a deterrent, yes as peacekeepers. Which is why we were in Syria. Which is why there will not now be peace there. And why Erdoğan is now free to murder the unbelievers.

This week President Trump abruptly announced that he would pull U.S. troops a few convenient miles out of Turkey’s way in Syria. (No, he’s not even bringing them home.) How can I back a president who breaks his word to our fighting allies? Who leaves the vulnerable Christians, Yezidis, and Kurds that survived ISIS’s butchers to be victimized by al Qaeda, or even ISIS itself?
Would the most dogged Trump supporters still back him if he came out in support of partial birth abortion? From their tone in this current debate, I’m afraid that some of them would.
The fact is Americans are powerful. More powerful than virtually any other human beings in the history of the world. We are sovereign citizens of a Constitutional Republic. We have ready access to wealth and influence that the vulnerable people of the world can only dream of.
And as Christians we should know better than to squander our privileges. Instead, we have a responsibility to deploy our strength for the common good.
Trump’s disastrous decision this week puts vulnerable minorities at the mercy of jihadists. But he is not a dictator. We have the power to change this policy. And it’s our Christian duty to try.
Our political actions and inactions have powerful effects in the world, and can mean life or death for countless fellow human beings. Whatsoever we do unto these, the least among us, we do unto … Jesus Himself.
