#JeSuisCharlie

#JeSuisCharlie (I am Charlie) is one of the hashtag messages trending on Twitter today; a spontaneous show of solidarity for the murdered French journalists, and for freedom of speech.

Today’s massacre (12 dead) in Paris at the offices of weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, wasn’t the first time the publication has felt the wrath of Islamic barbarians. Their building was vandalized just over three years ago ~ Firebombed by Intolerance.

In that November 2011 attack, a single Molotov cocktail was tossed through a window around 1:00 in the morning. Since the offices were closed at the time, no one was injured, although there was significant property damage.

The magazine was not intimidated. At the time, Charlie Hedbo’s editor-in-chief, known as Charb said ~

“We cannot, today, put together a paper. But we will do everything possible to do one next week. Whatever happens, we’ll do it. There is no question of giving in.”

This was the issue that got the Religion-of-Perpetual-Outrage all worked up four years ago ~

“100 lashes if you are not dying of laughter.”

An editorial, the first following the firebombing, included this quote about Islam ~

“No religion is compatible with democracy from the moment a political party representing it wants to take power in the name of God”.

Whatever their publishing style may have been, these brave journalists stood up to the cowardly Islamic bullies, and ultimately – died for freedom of speech. We in the West should not let those deaths be in vain.
