Let’s try separation-of-historical-fact-from-fiction for a change

Isn’t it just amazing what our present day courts can do with the law when their decisions are predicated on falsehoods: Federal Court Rules New York City Can Ban Schools From Churches. This means that “dozens of churches that rent public school buildings in New York City could face eviction by the end of June.” Because –

The justices said that it could unconstitutionally convert schools into state-sponsored Christian churches on weekends.

And then, before you can say “Jesus saves”, the schools’ P.A. systems will spontaneously start playing a rousing chorus of Rock of Ages?!

“When worship services are performed in a place, the nature of the site changes,” Judge Leval wrote. “The place has, at least for a time, become the church.”

And we certainly can’t have that – can we?
Well let’s see. How about if we delve into American history for a moment…

When Thomas Jefferson (That would be Thomas “Danbury Baptist” Jefferson to your average left-atheist) was president, church services were held in the U.S. Capitol building. Gasp! Yes – it’s true. Jefferson himself and many of the other founders attended weekly. In fact, the building was used for church services for the better part of the 19th century. (And yet after all that time, Judge Leval, it didn’t “become a church”.)
So, to subscribe to the separation-of-church-and-state fabrication, you have to believe that the original authors of the constitution blatantly violated the documents they just established.
The Land of Magical Mendacity that lefties inhabit is a mighty strange place indeed.

How sad is this?

According to the Census Bureau, for the first time in history, less than half of all Americans now live in married-couple households – vs. almost 80% in 1950. This does not bode well for the future, especially for the younger generation.
Considering our narcissistic lifestyles over the last several decades, Linda Chavez at Townhall.com should have titled her article “Putting Children Last” instead of “Putting Children First”.

As long as our contemporary culture views selfishness as a higher good than selflessness, this trend will continue. Despite the futility, and despite the facts:

Myriad studies have documented that children who grow up without two parents are more likely to do worse in school, drop out, commit crimes, and earn less during their lifetimes than those who are raised with both parents, even adjusting for economic status and race. They are also far less likely to have stable relationships and marriages as adults, thus fueling the cycle of marriage breakdown.

And even:

According to researchers Howard Friedman and Leslie Martin, the children of divorce had an average lifespan five years shorter than those whose parents stayed married.

How have Americans become so self-centered and irresponsible that we refuse to value our children – their emotional, spiritual and physical well-being – over our own temporary gratification?

Saturday Shorts 6.4.11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Stop Poking God in the Eye ~ (Isn’t that a great title for a post – wish I’d thought of it!) Daryl Hedding warns the world about trying God’s patience with regard to Israel.

Orphanage home to only fond memories ~ A 94 year-old Pennsylvania man reflects on his childhood in an orphanage: “I have absolutely no remembrance of anything bad about the orphanage.” (Church on Sundays, nightly prayers – and no pedophiles!)

Final Remarks of Geert Wilders at His Trial ~ Everyone needs to read Wilders’ closing remarks at his trial in the Netherlands; a courageous stand for free speech.

Perfect June days

After all the rain last week, we’ve just been blessed with a couple days of beautiful weather here in Michigan. Thank-you Lord!

And what is so rare as a day in June?
Then, if ever, come perfect days;
Then, Heaven tries the earth if it be in tune,
And over it softly her warm ear lays.

Remember when June was the month for weddings?

Not anymore. Now – if it’s June, it must be ‘LGBT Pride Month’.
Thank-you President Obama. Our first post-Christian president has decreed the month of June “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.” This would be the same guy who brushes aside the rule of law by instructing the Dept. of Justice to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act. Just not a law he could get behind. (Never mind that one of the executive branches’ primary duties is law enforcement – not law interpretation.)

Well you’ll have to pardon me Mr. Obama if I don’t join in your Rainbow celebration.

For me, June is still the traditional month of weddings. And as a Christian, I only acknowledge the original version of marriage as ordained by God. From “now until the end.”

For a man shall leave his mother;
And a woman leave her home.
And they shall travel on to where,
The two shall be as one.
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, until the end.
Woman draws her life from man,
And gives it back again.
And there is love.

Drastic Downsizing

I watched this video this morning and it’s been running through my head all day. How could anyone possibly scale back to a 320 sq. ft. house?? I’m torn between “No way!” and “It does sound kind of tempting…”.

Just consider… wouldn’t it be liberating? Cleaning and maintenance would be a breeze. I think we’d be surprised how few possessions we actually need – I mean all that “stuff”. What woman doesn’t really have too many clothes? And all those shoes? And my husband has collections of collections. Good grief! Sometimes when I go downstairs and see all the junk in our basement it’s actually physically draining! Who needs it?
I know there are many retirees who are perfectly happy spending part or all of the year living in a travel trailer. So what’s the problem? If you’ve got your family, your health and basic necessities, what more do you really need?

Well, um… there’s my BOOKS.
Paperbacks, hardbacks, fiction, non-fiction, apologetics, biographies, graphic & web design books, cookbooks, gardening books… (Don’t “Kindle” me – I gotta hold em in my hands, it’s a tactile thing.)
Shelves and shelves of BOOKS.
Actually, I just ordered a few more from Amazon.
So now I need more shelves.
Where will I put them?
Arrrggh!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of books, here’s one I have sitting on a shelf (OK – collecting dust): Don Aslett’s Lose 200 Lbs This Weekend: It’s Time to Declutter Your Life. But it really does have some good advice for getting rid of your “stuff”. I just need to follow it!
Newsweek: “If you’re not panicked, we’re not doing our job.”
Uh-oh…”ominous, extreme, harrowing… biblical proportions”!
Yes folks, same old lyrics; up-dated tune. In 1975 Newsweek told us it was time to get hysterical over global cooling. Thirty-six year later – it’s time to panic over global warming. Real Science has excerpts and links to the original articles.
Note to Newsweek – cut the drama. And quit with the strawmen:
“…those who deny the existence of global climate change are having trouble dismissing the evidence of the last year.”
Climate changes over time. Period. No one’s denying that. But humans have nothing to do with it.
Quit twisting the facts and we’ll pretend you’re semi-intelligent. Deal?
Sarah’s Stradivarius Tour: “the best political entertainment of the campaign so far”
Since the National Media will find fault with absolutely everything she does or says, Sarah Palin’s only following my Mom’s timeless advice about bullies, miscreants and other troubled souls: “Just ignore them.” And she’s having a blast doing it! – Sarah Palin plays the media like a violin.
At some point, every conservative realizes that our most formidable adversaries are not actually the Leftist politicians and their destructive ideologies, but their zealous enablers in the MSM. If it weren’t for the National Media’s arrogant aversion to the Truth, America wouldn’t be on its current path to self-destruction. That’s why it’s so much to fun to watch Palin stringing them along on her Magical Mystery Tour.
At Sarahpac.com Palin describes the purpose behind her trip:
Restoring the Good in America!
Posted on May 26, 2011
Our nation is at a critical turning point. As we look to the future, we are propelled by America’s past. It’s imperative that we connect with our founders, our patriots, our challenges and victories to clearly see our way forward. A good way to do this is to appreciate the significance of our nation’s historic sites, patriotic events and diverse cultures, which we’ll do in the coming weeks on our “One Nation” tour.
We’ll celebrate the good things that bring Americans together; those things that will give us the needed strength to meet the heady challenges ahead. I’ve said many times that America doesn’t need a “fundamental transformation,” instead we need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America! So, together let’s prepare ourselves for the days ahead by reminding ourselves who we are and what Americans stand for.
We’ll celebrate the meaning of our nation’s blueprints, our Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, which are the threads that weave our past into the fabric necessary for the survival of American exceptionalism. Our founders declared “we were born the heirs of freedom”, and despite our difficulties and disagreements, we remain one nation under God in freedom, indivisible. Through visits to historical sites and patriotic events, we’ll share the importance of America’s foundation.
We encourage you to support the pro-America events we’ll be privileged to participate in during these coming weeks. Discover the ties that bind Americans, our history, our traditions, and the exceptional nature of our country!
Palin’s tossed out all sorts of clues to these dupes – “Through visits to historical sites and patriotic events…” (But do they even know our history? Or how to research/investigate anymore? Do you suppose any of the MSM have even been to an historical site – or “patriotic event”?). The very title of her post must have them scratching their heads – Restoring the Good in America! “…duh…what good?”
So maybe this is really Sarah’s MSM education tour? We can hope & pray they learn something.
Meanwhile, I’m just enjoying the ride!
More proof of the scam that is Obamacare
From Heritage Foundation’s blog “The Foundry”:
Despite President Obama’s assurances that his massive overhaul of the health care system would control health care costs and allow Americans to keep their current coverage, the outlook indicates otherwise.
According to a new study by PricewaterhouseCoopers we can look forward to – Higher Health Care Costs under Obamacare. Gee – what a shock.
Most of us are already seeing firsthand, or at least hearing about, the negative effects on personal finances. My husband and I are self-employed and our family’s health insurance premiums increased by 8% in 2010 and another 7% this year. Even with high annual deductibles and co-pays, it’s barely affordable. Many seniors I’ve talked to in the past few months have been experiencing reduced coverage and higher out-of pocket costs (from Medicare as well as pension-provided healthcare). And according to this cheery report it’s only gonna get worse.
Employers who offer coverage to their workers face growing uncertainty regarding costs under the new law. The negative consequences of Obamacare’s changes will be threefold: higher costs for those with employer-sponsored coverage; a greater debt burden on current and future taxpayers; and slower growth in job creation and the overall economy.
As you sow…
Delaware Park vandals do ‘thousands’ in damage.
…a group of more than 100 teenagers and young adults who went on a destructive spree Saturday night, according to officials from Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy…
When I saw this story in the Buffalo News last week I couldn’t help but notice the contrast with the Carthage H.S. kids who donated their graduation celebration fund to the Joplin tornado victims. I’m sure the liberal psychologists can reason away the destructive behavior of a bunch of young thugs; not enough self-esteem, not enough tax dollars spent on education, too many trans-fats, whatever is the latest excuse du jour.
Forget that blather. The simple truth is that one group was taught that character counts, was raised with traditional values – and the other was nurtured on nihilism.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sow, that will he also reap. ~ Galatians 6:7
