Paul Ryan: “We can do this!”

Hope you had a chance to catch some of the awesome speeches at the GOP convention tonight – positive, inspiring and energizing! Rand Paul, Condoleeza Rice, Tim Pawlenty (“Welcome to Barack Obama’s retirement party!”), Susana Martinez (NM governor) and even Mike Huckabee, were all great. Each in their own way reminded us of our founding principles, what made our country great, and the American dream:

“We’ve never been a nation of grievance and entitlement, where ‘I am doing poorly because you’re doing well…’
…It doesn’t matter where you come from, it matters where you’re going.”
~Condoleeza Rice ~

Ryan was a rock star! He comes across as intelligent, impassioned and sincere – the real deal. Not sure Romney can top that tomorrow night.

I didn’t watch the convention live yesterday, but one of the day’s best speeches – all but ignored by the mainstream media – was delivered by Mia Love, mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, a Republican congressional candidate, a Mormon and first-generation Haitian-American ~

“Mr. President, I’m here to tell you the American people are awake and we’re not buying what you’re selling in 2012,” Love continued to applause.

Love went on to praise the American dream which she called her story and the story of millions of her fellow citizens. “This is the America we know because we built it,” said Love to spontaneous chants of “U.S.A” from the crowd.

[Source: MEDIAite]

MSNBC neglected to broadcast Love’s speech because, well… she was the wrong color. Black female conservatives simply don’t exist in the upside-down world Chris Matthews and his friends inhabit. Not that he and his pals are racist or anything…

“That’s ‘racist’ because we say so”

The Left just cannot let their “racist” narrative go.
Check out Chris Matthews interviewing Newt Gingrich yesterday in Tampa (via Michelle Malkin – “What kind of racist thinking do you have?”):

How sad to be so blinded by your own misconceptions that you can’t see reality. When the truth doesn’t fit with their skewed view of the world, the Left simply rejects it.

Today is the 49th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream” speech. It’s been almost 50 years, but unfortunately King’s hopes will never be realized as long as so many in the mainstream media continue to cling to their irrational prejudices.

Chris Matthews and his fellow myopics should apologize to Rev. King for disregarding his dream. They’re still focused on skin color; character has become irrelevant.

“Houston, we have a massive ego problem”

Like millions across the country and around the world, I was saddened to hear of the death of Neil Armstrong on Saturday. He was an inspiration to so many – a true American hero.

“As long as there are history books, Neil Armstrong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind’s first small step on a world beyond our own.”

~ NASA chief Charles Bolden ~

Despite his fame, by all accounts Armstrong was modest and self-effacing, avoiding the limelight whenever possible. As Mike Flynn at Breitbart put it, his heroism wasn’t so much the lunar walk;

It was how he comported himself afterwards that showed the true measure of the man. He was among the more famous human beings in history. Yet he retired to a quiet and private life teaching aeronautical engineering and tending to his farm. His walk on the moon wasn’t a personal achievement, per se, but an accomplishment for all of humanity.

Barack Obama on the other hand – true to form – took the opportunity of Armstrong’s passing to showcase [brace yourself -]… himself. The president offered a short tribute to the astronaut on his social media “tumbler” page, but apparently couldn’t manage to google an image of Armstrong, so he uploaded one of himself instead ➡

Notice how the wing of the plane not-so-subtly points right at the “One?” How arrogant can you get?

The contrast in character between the two men couldn’t be more stark. One, humble and quietly courageous. The other a narcissist of epic proportions.
Flynn sums up the dissimilarities nicely:

Obama is a literary construct. It’s as if Zelig jumped off the movie screen and took up residence in the Oval Office. He puts himself in the frame of historical events, even if he has only the smallest cameo. He let Democrats in Congress construct the stimulus package, as well as his signature legislation, Obamacare. He comes on the scene just in time for the photo-op, after others have done the heavy lifting.

Neil Armstrong did the heavy lifting. Even a tribute to his death is just another photo-op for Obama.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The Narcissist-in-Chief may also be harboring some resentment for Armstrong’s entirely justified opposition to his re-direction of America’s space program ~
Armstrong went public in 2010 with his concerns about President Barack Obama’s space policy that shifted attention away from a return to the moon and emphasized private companies developing spaceships. He testified before Congress, and in an email to The Associated Press he said he had “substantial reservations.”
NBC/WSJ Poll; 0% credibility when it comes to Black voters
Early last week NBC/WSJ published a poll for the upcoming election. However accurate the overall numbers may have been – and several seem awfully questionable – one set of figures immediately stood out as highly suspect:
Obama continues to lead Romney among key parts of his political base, including African Americans (94 percent to 0 percent), Latinos (by a 2-to-1 margin), voters under 35-years-old (52 percent to 41 percent) and women (51 percent to 41 percent).
Yeah, it’s that 0% thing. Zero%?! Seriously?
Twitter immediately begged to differ with that silliness, with #blackconservativesforRomney quickly trending. Most tweeters were more bemused than angry or shocked. Twitter conservatives are used to the msm’s reality-free zone and their pre-drawn conclusions ~
You’ve really got to wonder, who exactly did the pollsters contact? Registered Democrats only? Al Sharpton fans? Maxine Water’s supporters?
They sure didn’t ask anyone like Thomas Sowell, Star Parker, Rep. Allen West or the National Black Republican Association.
They’re also missing a large segment of the African American Christian community, many of whom are no fans of President Obama’s recent “evolution” on same-sex marriage.
At a July press conference, William Owens, president of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP), had this message for Obama:
“Mr. President, I’m not going to stand with you, and there are thousands of others across this country that are not going to stand with you with this foolishness.”
The NBC/WSJ pollsters are also ignoring people like Rev. C.L. Bryant who energized a crowd with his speech at FreePac last month: Rev. C.L. Bryant on Converting to Conservatism: ‘As a Black American, You’d Be Nuts Not to Be a Republican.’ Rev. Bryant is the man behind Runaway Slave:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A recent caller to the Mark Levin Show, a black woman, laughing told Mark how she and her friends “lie, lie, lie” to pollsters when they call. She really got a kick out of playing along with the assumption that all blacks automatically voted Democrat.

Maybe some of that harmless but gratifying subterfuge accounts for the NBC/WSJ poll results. Guess we’ll find out for sure in November.

Dodd-Frank – Paved with Good Intentions

This week the SEC adopted section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank disaster; a well-intentioned but definitely misguided “conflict minerals” provision, that the Wall Street Journal called a case study of “regulatory mission creep.”

Not to be confused with “underwear creep” – which is localized – and much less insidious. (Sorry, it’s late and I’m getting slap-happy.)

“Conflict minerals” are those mined in conditions of armed conflict and human rights abuses. There are presently four that meet this designation: cassiterite, wolframite, coltan, and gold. These minerals are used in the manufacture of a variety of devices, especially consumer electronics.

Section 1502 of the The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is specifically directed at the Democrat Republic of Congo (DRC), a nation troubled for years by civil war, famine and widespread disease. When it comes to natural resources, the country’s untapped deposits of raw minerals make it the richest country in the world. Yet its people are among the poorest. (Can you say “government corruption?”)

As Heritage’s Foundry reports, section 1502;

… requires private companies (of any size) to disclose whether any “conflict minerals” that are necessary to the functionality or production of a product have “originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or an adjoining country.” The law imposes what seem to be onerous and expensive due diligence reporting requirements on those private companies, including the establishment of a “chain of custody of those minerals” that must be independently audited.

Todd Moss at the Center for Global Development explains that the simplistic premise behind 1502 is; mining income must fuel violence in DRC so why not just cut off that money and thus end the killings.

Sounds good right? Except that the SEC estimates that complying with the regulation’s requirements will cost U.S. business between $9 billion and $16 billion. Just what we need, more job-killing legislation.

Ah, but what about the beleaguered Congolese, the purported beneficiaries of 1502? Laura Seay, assistant professor of political science at Morehouse College, recognized for her knowledge of African geo-political affairs, had this to say back in January, seven months before the section was even adopted:

Although its provisions have yet to be implemented, section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is already having a profound effect on the Congolese mining sector. Nicknamed “Obama’s Law” by the Congolese, section 1502 has created a de facto ban on Congolese mineral exports, put anywhere from tens of thousands up to 2 million Congolese miners out of work in the eastern Congo, and, despite ending most of the trade in Congolese conflict minerals, done little to improve the security situation or the daily lives of most Congolese….

If the bureaucrats in Congress, the “Central Planners” as Hayek called them, were actually capable of having good intentions, Dodd-Frank would certainly confirm the truth of the old saying about the road to Hell.

Choosing Life – Without Exception

I’ve been purposely staying away from the Todd Akin story and the entire “legitimate rape” controversy. I’d never even heard of the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate until his now infamous comment, and still know very little about the man and the political situation in Missouri. The whole sorry episode has become another fortuitous “macaca” moment for the Left and their sock puppets in the mainstream media; crank up the faux outrage and don’t let up until your target is neutralized.

More importantly, it’s a distraction from issues that really need addressing; the economy, Obamacare, the national debt (edging ever closer to 16 trillion!), border security, taxmegeddon, the Middle East… and yes, abortion.

The attacks from the Left, and the infighting on the Right, are preventing us from having a legitimate discussion about the right to life. Specifically, does a child conceived through rape have a right to be born?

Rebecca Kiessling, who produced the DVD “Conceived in Rape: From Worthless to Priceless,” would answer that question with an emphatic “absolutely!” Kiessling, also a pro-life speaker and an attorney, hosts a website dedicated to sharing her own story and those of others, individuals whose mothers chose to carry their babies to term after being raped ~

Have you ever considered how really insulting it is to say to someone, “I think your mother should have been able to abort you.”? It’s like saying, “If I had my way, you’d be dead right now.” And that is the reality with which I live every time someone says they are pro-choice or pro-life “except in cases of rape” because I absolutely would have been aborted if it had been legal in Michigan when I was an unborn child, and I can tell you that it hurts. But I know that most people don’t put a face to this issue — for them abortion is just a concept — with a quick cliche, they sweep it under the rug and forget about it. I do hope that, as a child conceived in rape, I can help to put a face, a voice, and a story to this issue.

Last year there was a heartwarming story in the news that also put a personal face on this issue: Mom reunites with biological child 77 years later. Minka Disbrow, who just celebrated her 100th birthday, was raped at the age of sixteen. She gave her baby daughter up for adoption in 1929. A search for family medical history eventually led to an amazing reunion – when Minka was 94.

Her daughter, Ruth Lee, was raised by a Norwegian pastor and his wife. From early on, Lee knew that she was adopted, and grew up a happy child. She went on to marry and have six children;

… including the Alabama man (the son who initially contacted Disbrow), a teacher and astronaut Mark Lee, a veteran of four space flights who has circled the world 517 times. She worked for nearly 20 years at Walmart — and especially enjoyed tending to the garden area.

The two women met at Minka’s home in California ~

Disbrow couldn’t get over how Lee’s hands were like her mother’s. Lee was amazed at the women’s similar taste in clothing. They pored over family photo albums and caught up on the years Disbrow had missed.

Now there’s a family that I’m willing to bet is pro-life – without exception.
[For more on Minka’s touching story, see this LifeSiteNews article.]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thankfully, it sounds like the GOP platform going into the convention includes the call for a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion with no explicit exceptions for cases of rape or incest. This despite Mitt Romney’s waffling over the tougher stance.
As with the Akin affair, the Left, as usual, will take the opportunity to demonize Republicans, citing the GOP position as “Neanderthal” and “anti-women.”
But I’m pretty sure the real demons are on the other side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Think about it…

If abortion IS NOT the ending of a human person’s life, then no justification for abortion is necessary.

If abortion IS the ending of a human person’s life, then no justification for abortion is adequate.

Obama’s Dream; America’s Nightmare (Up-dated)

Update: 8-22-12:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You‘ll never guess where ’2016′ film is drawing big crowds ~ OK… in Manhattan! From The Blaze:
Obama’s America was the No. 3 film of the weekend behind The Dark Knight and Totall Recall at Union Square, prompting at least one film executive to joke that people must have thought it was a pro-Obama documentary (New York is the No. 1 city when it comes to the amount of giving to the Obama campaign).
Prompting me to joke, are Obama supporters really that ignorant?
On the other hand, let’s hope it was a transformative experience for them.
The number of theaters showing “2016: Obama’s America” is expanding this Friday from 169 to 1075. Check HERE for local availability.
Go see it – and drag along a couple drones. 🙂
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

July 27, 2012 ~

Obama’s America ~ 2016, a new documentary from Dinesh D’Souza, attempts to answer the question; who is Obama? Since the mainstream media didn’t ask in ’08 and obviously won’t bother to do so before this election either, this is probably a film every responsible voter needs to see before November.

Drawing on numerous interviews, family records and Barack Obama’s own history and worldview as recounted in his books, the documentary reveals the president’s ideology for the anti-colonial, anti-American, anti-West philosophy that it is.

While researching the film, D’Souza talked to Obama’s half-brother George Obama in Kenya (video clip below). Interestingly enough, George doesn’t share Barack’s animus toward the West and capitalism. Probably because he’s living so much closer to the truth and has witnessed first-hand the rotten fruits of anti-colonialism.

Yet brother Barack (clearly not his “brother’s keeper”), leader of the most prosperous country in the history of the planet, blames America for most of the world’s ills and considers capitalism a form of theft. Guess that’s what Marxist indoctrination will do to a guy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obama’s America needs to be shown in many more theaters. So far it’s only been released in Texas, Tennessee, Montana and… Alaska (long drive from Michigan!).
A list of current locations is HERE.
