Happy Jewish New Year

Surrounded by angry voices of irrational hate, and virulent threats to its very existence, Israel alone is the last beacon of freedom and liberty in the Middle East.
Pray for the Lord’s righteous hand of protection over the land and her people for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which begins today at sundown.

Here’s a New Year’s message from the IDF (Israeli Defense Force), tasked with defending Israel against the increasingly menacing unrest on her borders:

I have set a watchman on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They shall never hold their peace day or night.
You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
And give Him no rest till He establishes
And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Mark Alexander at the Patriot Post is somewhat more strident in his evaluation of the Nacissist-in-Chief ~ BO’s BS: Exposing Obama’s Socialist Dezinformatsia:

Obama has led the charge to eradicate “God” from every corner of public life in the U.S. because his Socialist ideology cannot tolerate competition with its goal of authoritarian state power. While Obama quickly apologized for an amateur web video which Muslims find offensive, he has yet to apologize for the “God” omission, especially to the families of American Patriots who have fought and died to support and defend our Constitution — itself constituted on the basis of the endowment of Liberty by our Creator.

But, oh wait! Here’s one of the administration’s “success” stories ~ GM losing as much as $49,000 per Volt sold. Under a lease, there are some Americans paying just $5,050 to drive around for two years in a vehicle that cost as much as $89,000 to produce. 😯

Obama’s “Faith” Duplicity

President Obama sanctimoniously lectures we peasants about religious tolerance, yet somehow one religion is continually exempt from admonishment. The Religion-of-least-tolerance always gets a pass.

The following statement was released by the Traditional Values Coalition on September 12th regarding the “Assassination of Libyan Ambassador; Attacks on US Embassy in Egypt.” I’m sure it reflects the sentiments of many Americans ~

“The Obama Administration is talking out of both sides of their mouth. They say we shouldn’t denigrate other faiths, but Christ is denigrated routinely in America and Obama hasn’t said a word about it. Yet Obama only gets upset when it happens to Muslims. Christians don’t riot — Muslims do. These Islamists are behaving like uncivilized animals, and it just keeps happening. Yet the POTUS and the administration are bending over backwards to placate these people.

“In the United States, plays are routinely performed that mock Christ. The Obama administration has imposed a grave violation of the rights of conscience through the HHS Mandate. Just recently, Family Research Council and Traditional Values Coalition were the targets of anti-Christian violence. A cross put into a jar of urine is considered art.

“Both President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seem keen to equate the video with the violence that claimed one of our ambassadors, with Clinton saying she “deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others” and restated a commitment to religious tolerance… and not to religious freedom and religious liberty enshrined in our Bill of Rights.

“But you look cross-eyed at a Muslim, and that’s hate speech that inspires violence? This deserves the protection of the state? Or invented rights of religious toleration rather than the religious freedoms in our Bill of Rights?

“An attack on an American Embassy is an attack on American soil, an act once considered to be an act of war. Three State Department staff members and an American ambassador are dead — dragged through the streets of Benghazi just as Muammar Qaddafi was months ago. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is under siege. All because of one video.

“The statement by the US Embassy in Cairo was consistent with President Obama’s rhetoric during his many apology tours. Once again, the Obama administration plays the apologist for Islam. Once again, lives are sacrificed for the feelings of Islamists — and on September 11th of all days.”

~ TVC president Andrea Lafferty ~

Gohmert Gives Congress (and POTUS) a Tutorial on Government Obligations

In the wake of the embassy attacks in Egypt and Libya, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) took to the floor of the House on Wednesday to remind the misguided Obama administration, the Washington elite, and, by extension, the misinformed drones in the mainstream media, of a little thing like the government’s responsibility under the Constitution to protect and defend American citizens, and those who are serving their country at home and abroad ~

Video via the Blaze

Hitting on all the administration’s recent fiascos – Libya, Netanyahu/Israel, fundraising while the Middle East burns – Gohmert totally slams Obama, all the while maintaining a measured tone of civility ~

“It does not help when an administration in response to American attacks on American soil and American individuals, the administration ends up asking Americans to give up their First Amendment rights for which our service members are fighting…

It is an inconvenient thing to have to be president when you’re really best at running for office… 😀

The people who have laid down their lives for the American ideal deserve the best we can give them.”

In light of the frantic attempts by the bumbling State Department to obfuscate, apologize and blame America first, along with the coordinated misdirection by the media, it’s darn reassuring to know that there are still some in D.C. who are willing to stand up for the truth!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michael Rubin at the Daily Caller articulates just what’s at stake in this contemporary war of worldviews, from “What really motivated the embassy attacks?” ~
The war on terrorism and, more specifically, the fight against Islamist radicalism, is an ideological battle. The United States, moderate Muslims, and those valuing freedom and liberty must triumph not only on the battlefield, but also in the classroom and on the airwaves. Alas, apologies and self-flagellation represent not a path to peace, but little more than preemptive surrender.
EPIC FAIL: Biased MSM Stooges Ignore Truth Behind Libyan Tragedy
UPDATE: 9-14-12 ~ Colonel Hunt: Hillary Clinton Made Decision Not To Have Marines at Benghazi ~ Brietbart exclusive interview. Neutered by our own State Dept. Rules of Engagement!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

UNBELIEVABLE! ~ The UK Independent is reporting tonight that our State Department had credible evidence warning of a pending attack on our Libyan Embassy 48 hours before the barbarians stormed the gates, and THEY DID NOTHING!

Independent, via Drudge Report ~ Revealed: inside story of US envoy’s assassination ~

The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach, The Independent can reveal…

According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and “lockdown”, under which movement is severely restricted.

Be grateful for the foreign press – they’re doing the job that so many U.S. “journalists” have abdicated!

“Rendering” to a Higher Authority

One of the earliest non-New Testament descriptions of Christians by outsiders comes from Pliny the Younger (61-112 AD), a Roman aristocrat-bureaucrat whose famous letter to the Emperor Trajan reveals how the pagan Romans understood what “rendering unto Caesar his due” really meant…

As with the modern secular state, the Roman’s didn’t care who or what you worshiped on your own time, as long as you publicly worshiped the emperor as well and didn’t make waves against the state.

Therefore, rendering unto Caesar meant that Christians hauled into court had to offer “a prayer of invocation to the gods,” make “an offering of wine and incense” to Trajan’s statue, and then “formally curse Christ.” From the Roman point of view, no big deal. Do this, and live. Then go on your merry way and do whatever you want in private.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From “To the Source” sidebar: “Pliny the Younger, the Roman Persecution of Christians, Birth Control and Infanticide”
Essentially, those early followers of Jesus were confronted with the same choices facing Christians in the U.S. today. Rome sanctioned birth control, abortion (in the form of potions administered to pregnant women) and even infanticide (unwanted babies were simply left outside, “exposed” to the elements, to expire).
Today, under Obamacare, believers will be forced to pay for insurance that covers nearly all these practices – the empire hasn’t formally legalized partial-birth abortion yet – and includes sterilization.
How would those early Christians have responded to our modern-day Caesar? Would they have capitulated to an HHS mandate that violates their faith? Whose authority would they ultimately honor?
For some U.S. business owners, the answers to those questions are clear. Their first allegiance is to God.
Last week’s “To the Source” e-letter reported on a federal lawsuit by Hercules Industries, a Colorado heating and air conditioning company. The owners, William Newman and his siblings, honor God’s law above Caesar’s mandate. They’ve suing the Obama administration, claiming that the Free Birth Control Rule violates their legal rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act ~
The RFRA was enacted in 1993 to overturn a Supreme Court decision that allowed federal drug laws to supersede Native American religious ceremonies which include the use of peyote. Under the law, once the Newmans demonstrate that the regulation forces them to violate their Catholic faith, the government has the burden of proving it has a compelling state interest in so doing.
… Considering the many contemporary cultural controversies that involve religious belief, if the government prevails, it won’t only be Catholics whose religious liberties are constrained.
At least for the moment, religious freedom is winning out. District Court Judge John L. Kane issued a preliminary injunction shielding the Newmans and their company from the rule’s objectionable provisions pending the final disposition of the case.
But that should not make civil libertarians sanguine. Because the question is one of “first impression,” Judge Kane declined to decide at this early stage in the case whether a corporation has freedom of religion (as the Supreme Court has ruled they do freedom of political speech), finding instead that the Newmans were sufficiently impacted personally to justify protection pending trial.
[Alliance Defending Freedom is assisting the Newmans in this battle. More info on the case HERE.]
Yesterday, Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., the privately held arts and crafts retail chain also filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration and the HHS mandate ~
“By being required to make a choice between sacrificing our faith or paying millions of dollars in fines, we essentially must choose which poison pill to swallow,” said CEO and founder David Green. “We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.”
As the Blaze reports:
What’s notable about Mr. Green’s decision is that not only is Hobby Lobby now the largest company to sue the Obama administration’s over its HHS mandate, but it’s also the first non-Catholic-owned business to do so.
And Mr. Green certainly runs a Christian-style business.
Hobby Lobby stores are never open on Sunday and the chain’s website attributes its continued success to its practice of “honoring the Lord in a manner consistent with biblical principles.”
… “It is by God’s grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has endured,” said Green. “Therefore we seek to honor God by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.”
“The conflict for me is that our family is being forced to choose between following the laws of the country that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and have supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families,” he added.
An early non-New Testament Christian document known as the Didache, instructed early converts to abandon Roman cultural practices ~
Not only may they not continue to worship the emperor or the imperial gods, but they were commanded: “You shall not administer potions” (the Greek pharmakon can mean any medicine, but in the context refers to potions used for evil purposes, including those meant either to prevent or end pregnancy), “You shall not slaughter a child in abortion,” and You shall not slay infants.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From “To the Source” sidebar: “Pliny the Younger, the Roman Persecution of Christians, Birth Control and Infanticide”

Thank God for both the 1st century believers, and their present-day counterparts, courageous Christians who stand up to Caesar, rendering primary allegiance unto a Higher Authority.

There Are No Coincidences in the Religion of Selective Outrage

After storming U.S. embassies in Egypt and Libya, the 21st century barbarians in the Middle East are now responsible for the murders of at least 4 Americans in Benghazi, Libya, including the American ambassador to that country. If you think the 9-11 date was merely a coincidence, I’ve got some proverbial swampland to sell.

As Walid Shoebat is reporting this morning: Arabic Sources Reveal Shocking Information about the attacks on U.S. Embassy in Egypt ~

The storming of the U.S. embassy in Cairo on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is not coincidental, despite the claims made by those behind it – as well as the liberal western media – that it was in response to an anti-Muslim film released in the U.S.
Arabic sources, once translated, again tell the real story.

On September 10th, advertisements that encouraged people to join in the protests of the film were in abundance.

The idea came from the Nour Salafist party’s Ahmed Khalil and Nadder Bakkar. Here is a rough translation:

“Nour Party announced in a statement on the official facebook page of the party, support for participation in the vigil held in front of the U.S. embassy on the fifth evening (Tuesday) to condemn the film for offending the Prophet (peace be upon him) on American television. The Engineer Jalal, once Secretary-General of the party, said that a number of party leaders are taking part in the vigil, led by Dr. Ahmed Khalil and Nader Bakkar, in addition to members of the party from the various provinces.”

This was sent out one day before the 9/11 anniversary. So we can conclude that the agitation was started days before, then advertised on September 10 to turn out on September 11th specifically.

Showbat believes the trumped-up outrage is part of an overall strategy by the Islamists, in this particular case the Nour Party, to criminalize any criticism of Islam, nationally (in Egypt) as well as internationally (free speech be damned) ~

Yet, all this had nothing to do with the sarcastic film about Muhammad.

I find no reason as to why 9/11 was chosen as a date to attack two U.S. Embassies (Egypt and Libya). This is not a Box Office movie. I haven’t examined the source of the movie but I saw some parts of it.

The Arabic sources show that this was in support of al-Qaeda day, posting al-Qaeda flags and some of the chanting was about reminding Americans that there are many al-Qaedas (ie Nour Party). Americans should ask themselves a hard question:

If our enemy is al-Qaeda exclusively, then why is an entire political party – which makes up over 20% of Egypt’s new Parliament – aligning with al-Qaeda?

Meanwhile, the dangerously hapless Obama administration, broken moral compass in hand, is unable to articulate an appropriate response to a direct attack of war against the United States of America.

If we don’t elect this guy, we may all be living under Sharia in four more years:

“I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

~ Mitt Romney 9-11-12 ~

CTU Strike “about the children?” Please.

Looks like the Chicago public school kids are getting another day off, via CNN ~ Official: No deal yet between Chicago teachers and school system.

Fun for the children no doubt, what kid doesn’t love an unexpected day off school? But parents – the teachers’ employers – are left scrambling to make alternative arrangements. Chicago’s school system is the nation’s third-largest, so this action by the union impacts some 350,000 students – and their parents.

 What’s the strike all about? “Fighting for the Schools Our Students DESERVE” as the above poster claims? Um, no. As Matthew Holzmann at the American Thinker points out, it’s really a microcosm of the larger issues facing our nation: Chicago Teacher’s Strike Defines Election Issues.

First, a few salient facts:

• Chicago schools have a 40% drop out rate
• Chicago’s teachers have the highest average salary in the country at $76,000/year
• The average salary for all Chicago workers is $47,000/year and the city is running massive deficits
• 4%/year raises have already been agreed to under contract negotiations, taking the average to $88,900/year (before benefits!) by 2016
• 9 out of 10 of the top-scoring Chicago schools in last year’s ACT testing were charter schools; average charter school salary is $48,910
• CPS has the shortest school days and year in the country compared to those of the ten largest U.S. cities
• 39% of Chicago public school teachers send their own children to private schools

Contract agreement has already been reached on the salary increase; 16% over 4 years. The remaining roadblocks to final settlement are accountability and union job protection. Yes, somehow the teachers’ union feels that they should be insulated from the realities those of us in the public sector must deal with as a matter of course; individual job performance and economic recession.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sample strike chants pulled directly from Chicago Teachers Union’s strike bulletin issued on Sept. 8, 2012:
The war on unions is a joke
Tax the rich that made us broke
Everywhere we go
People want to know
Who we are
So we tell them
We are the union
The mighty, mighty union 😯
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Illinois Policy Institute does a great job of reporting on the solid-blue (as in solid-Democrat) state’s budget woes. Their 9-10-12 article, “Five things you need to know about Chicago Public Schools,” includes a video.

As they relate, pension obligations are simply out-of control:

If nothing changes, the school district’s contribution to the Chicago teachers’ pension fund will more than triple next year. Money meant for the classroom will instead go to pay for the retirement benefits of former Chicago teachers. By next year, these retirement costs will eat up nearly half of the education funding Chicago receives from the state.

Holzman compares Chicago’s problems to the recent reforms in Wisconsin ~

One of the obligations of local government is education. It is obvious that Chicago’s school district and its teachers are failing in this responsibility. Their answer is to blame the system but it is their system. They did build it.

In Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker and the state legislature were able to make difficult choices that benefited everyone in the state. Teachers kept their jobs and compromised with economic reality. Public worker’s unions were reined in but retained their basic rights.

In education, the Wisconsin reforms allowed schools to hire and fire based on merit. School districts can pay teachers for superior performance. The law allows districts to hire and retain the best and brightest and to shop for insurance, which turns out to have saved hundreds of millions of dollars. Basic stuff, but when a system is corrupted, bloat and graft and gaming the system become the norm. The Wisconsin reforms are already bearing fruit. The lack of reform in Chicago is also apparent.

Chicago’s teacher union is symbolic of much of what has gone wrong in our country. Self-interest, cronyism, corruption and sloth when our children need the best we have to offer, are completely and utterly unacceptable.The Chicago strike defines what is wrong while the Wisconsin reforms point to a possible solution.

It is the statism and crony interests of one side versus the freedom to innovate and improve of the other.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Teachers’ rights
Under attack
What do we do?
Stand up, fight back!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Despite all the pretense, it’s clear that the CTU strike is definitely not about the children. In fact, sad to say, it’s really not about anything except the teachers’ desperate attempt to keep their butts firmly planted on the taxpayer-funded gravy train.

Restoring the American Dream

Many of us native-born Americans just assume that the vision referred to as the “American Dream” is our birthright. We simply take it for granted – if we think about it at. Not realizing what a rare and precious thing it is.

But consider for a moment…

In all the history of man on earth, there has been only one country with the word Dream attached to it; there is only the American Dream. There is no French Dream or Russian Dream or Chinese Dream; there is only the American Dream, to which people from all over the world aspire and have aspired since our founding. People from 194 countries have come to America to participate in this dream.

The American Spirit ~ Edwin J. Feulner & Brian Tracy

A vision of freedom and liberty, the chance for a fresh start, a better life, an opportunity to move beyond class and social status; the American Dream is the belief that with a little imagination, a little luck and a whole lot of individual effort you can achieve almost anything.

Isn’t this exceptional ideal something worth preserving? Something, in fact, that we’re obligated to defend, to ensure that future generations of Americans will still have the chance to participate in that unique dream?

Here’s one small way we can all help protect that vision before it’s replaced with the nightmare of Big Government collectivism. The Heritage Foundation has recently introduced a new initiative: Saving the American Dream.

Check out this new site and review their plan which includes specific objectives like:

• Simplifying the tax system to encourage business investment and fuel economic growth
• Repealing Obamacare
• Transforming Social Security and Medicare by reducing benefits for the wealthiest Americans, treating these entitlements more like insurance programs and focusing resources on the truly needy
• Balancing the budget – within ten years

Find out more, share with others, and add your name to the growing list of our fellow Americans who want to save the dream for future generations – HERE.

Heritage Foundation has also teamed up with Family Research Council to promote the message that America needs strong families and a strong economy to restore prosperity. Over the next two months they’re hitting the road with a “Values Bus” Tour, to advance the cause of fiscal and moral responsibility. Go HERE to see if they’re coming to a town near you.

Pro-Abortion Bullies Meet Their Match in a Brave Eleven Year-old

One of the Left’s favorite strategies is to smear the opposition with angry epithets; intolerant, racist, bigot, homophobe, and the all-purpose “hater.” Translation: “If you don’t agree with my personal version of reality, no matter how warped, you’re a hater!” Or maybe a “fascist.”

The following story out of North Carolina provides a clear illustration of the Left’s fundamentally intolerant approach to anyone who disagrees with them. Seems a peaceful, prayerful rally by pro-lifers in Uptown Charlotte last week got a little ugly when the pro-abortion crowd decided get confrontational.

Zoe Griffin attended the event along with her mother (who runs Stand True, a pro-life outreach organization) to lay flowers outside the DNC convention and pray for the politicians inside, unborn babies and the younger generation. While the eleven year-old was praying, several pro-choicers, including one Sunsara Taylor (a radical abortion-rights advocate – see below) began to yell at and taunt her group. Here’s what happened next, in Zoe’s own words:

Hi, I’m Zoe. Something happened Friday night that a friend wanted me to blog about. I don’t have Facebook or Twitter or anything like that so I’m borrowing my mom’s page for now.

What happened was a pro-life rally. We had showed up when only 4 people were there. I guess we were supposed to get there early. As more and more people came, a car arrived. A woman came out and opened the trunk. There were 3,300 carnations in the back of that car. We started to unload and unwrap the flowers. Lily, Bella, and I started to write pro-life statements with chalk on the sidewalks when some pro-abortionists came. They were holding signs and chanting: “A baby’s not a baby till it comes out, that’s what birthdays are all about!” They were blowing whistles and jumping around acting like 5-year-old children. I was so sad that these people were so blinded I started crying. Then we started laying down the flowers all across the sidewalk. When we finished, the line of carnations was probably a mile long. A pro-life woman let me hold a crucifix that she had. I started clutching it close to my heart. My knees were shaking, so were my hands.

The pro-abortionists turned to us and started pointing at different people, saying, “You’re a person! You’re a person! Fetuses are not!” Then the woman saw me crying and said,” You are making this girl cry with your bull____”. I couldn’t stand any more of those lies. They pushed it too far. In the highest-pitched voice I have ever spoken in, I screamed, “THEY ARE NOT THE ONES MAKING ME CRY! YOU ARE! WITH YOUR DARK HEARTS, YOUR DARK MINDS TURNED AGAINST GOD!” My mom ran over to me, put her hand on my shoulder, and calmed me down. Then she went up to them and said, “HOW DARE YOU ATTACK A CHILD LIKE THAT!” While she was yelling, pro-lifers came over to me to calm me down. My whole body was shaking. Our friend, Mrs. McKinney, took me, Jack, and Bella to a CVS that was nearby. We got water and chips and went back. I sat down on a bench when a man from the Charlotte Observer came over to me and started interviewing me. Once he was done, a man came over and gave us ice cream. While I was eating, the pro-abortionists left. Then we started to clean up.

On the way home I felt sorry that I yelled at those people. I told my mom, and she said, “Do you know why you feel that way? It’s because you have a heart. You have a conscience, and you know what’s right and what’s wrong. Those people attacked you like that because they don’t have a heart.”

I will never, ever forget what happened last night. I had a dream that night that they all converted to pro-life activists. I hope that dream becomes a reality.

Pretty profound stuff for an eleven year-old!

By contrast, Ms. Taylor is just profoundly confused:

Young Zoe’s wise words to Taylor and her misguided cohorts were all too true: “Dark Hearts” and “Dark minds.”

Saturday Shorts – 9-8-12

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Media Ignores Ryan Crowds For Few Pro-Obama Protesters ~ North Carolina: Thousands line up to hear Paul Ryan speak . Media fixates solely on the seven Obama supporters who showed up to protest. Nope, no bias here.

The 29 Ugliest Charts In The World ~ World-wide economic slowdown… headed for the perfect storm? It sure ain’t pretty!

ENCODE Study Forces Evolutionists to Retract “Junk DNA” Myth ~ Science headlines this week announced the latest finding in human genetics; seems the evolutionary notion of “junk DNA” (leftovers from our evolutionary past) is incorrect. Instead, at least 80% of the human genome is, in fact, functional. Oops.
Nature quoted ENCODE Lead Coordinator Ewan Birney ~

“There are probably things that we have no idea what they’re doing and yet they’re going something important. It’s very hard to get over the density of information.” Genes can no longer be considered discreet sections of code. The data looks more like a jungle. There are “places in the genome we thought were silent and they’re teeming with life,” he said.

The Darwin crowd always assumes evolution in any research endeavor, causing them to waste valuable time and resources, and compelling them to postulate ever more far-fetched theories. If they would just push old Charlie aside and follow the science, they’d arrive at the truth so much sooner.

Condoleezza Rice’s Inspirational Remarks on School Choice ~ Posted at the Foundry by Virginia Walden Ford, one of the small group of black students to attend Little Rock Central High School in 1966, during desegregation ~

I, along with so many warriors, have fought hard for almost two decades for the children of this nation to receive a quality education. And I know, as Secretary Rice said, that “today, when I can look at your zip code and I can tell whether you’re going to get a good education, can I honestly say it does not matter where you came from, it matters where you are going? The crisis in K-12 education is a threat to the very fabric of who we are.”

My Abortion, ‘Tis of Thee ~ Daniel Greenfield is convinced that the bizarro element in the Democrat party has pushed their agenda so far to the Left that “the Party’s over.” Let’s hope so.

Auto Bailout Success? For Union Workers, Maybe ~ Numerous speakers at the DNC convention touted the auto bailout as a major success story, most memorably the unhinged, former Michigan governor, Jennifer Granholm. 😯 This article at the Foundry sets the record straight.

DNC Convention… phew! At least it ended well.

For those of us who suffered through any part of the Democrats’ convention the past few days, there were at least two bright spots: Gabby Gifford’s appearance on stage last night, leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance; and the benediction at the close of the gathering, offered by the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Thomas Dolan:

Video and full text of the Cardinal’s benediction HERE.

Some of the highlights:

We thank You for showering your blessing upon this our beloved nation.

We beseech you, almighty God to shed your grace on this noble experiment in ordered liberty, which began with the confident assertion of inalienable rights bestowed upon us by you: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Thus do we praise you for the gift of life. Grant us the courage to defend it, life, without which no other rights are secure…

We praise and thank you for the gift of liberty. May this land of the free never lack those brave enough to defend our basic freedoms. Renew in all our people a profound respect for religious liberty: the first, most cherished freedom bequeathed upon us at our Founding…

We praise and thank you for granting us the life and the liberty by which we can pursue happiness. Show us anew that happiness is found only in respecting the laws of nature and of nature’s God. Empower us with your grace so that we might resist the temptation to replace the moral law with idols of our own making, or to remake those institutions you have given us for the nurturing of life and community…

And most of all, God Almighty, we thank you for the great gift of our beloved country.

For we are indeed “one nation under God,” and “in God we trust.”

So dear God, bless America. You who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen!

After the earlier attempt by the radical wing of the party to throw God under the bus, I’m sure there were some convention attendees who were less than thrilled with the Cardinal’s prayer. (Particularly the pro-abortion crowd and the LGBT community!)
But knowing that the Lord works in mysterious ways, let’s pray that this was a moment of revelation, at least for some of them.

America is in trouble and her problem isn’t merely political or financial. We have become enslaved to false gods, and a good portion of us prefer them to even so much as a mention of the real God! Only repentance and revival can bring this nation back from the abyss she looks into.
