Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Why heroin is spreading in America’s suburbs (+video) ~ Disturbing trend; strong link between potent painkillers and heroin, especially among young people.

Eleven Hate-Crime Hoaxes ~ Ah yes, one of the Left’s favorite devices for advancing their radical social agenda; the faux hate-crime – Cry “wolf.” Go for the initial shock value. Ride the wave of collective emotional outrage. Push for completely unnecessary legislation to further the cause. And when it turns out later that the whole thing was built on a lie? Oh well. Count on the mainstream media to forget to mention it.

New study shows Arctic sea ice extent ~6000 years ago was much less than today ~

This is interesting, somehow the Earth managed to reduce a good portion of the Arctic Ice Cap during the Holocene Climate Optimum from approximately 10,000-6,000 years ago without the help of the industrial revolution, fossil fuels, or automobile emissions.
This new paper published in Quaternary Science Reviews finds Arctic sea ice extent and thickness was much less than present-day conditions […]

Cornwall Alliance – for the stewardship of Creation ~ I recently discovered this Christian alternative to radical environmentalism. They advocate a biblical approach to conservation; God gave man dominion over creation and tasked him with stewardship over all the earth.
Here’s their take on the Biblical Noah vs. the Hollywood version: Movie Noah Trades Redemption for Destruction

Has the USA Become a Banana Republic? ~ Almost. The rapid erosion of the rule of law is setting up a power vacuum easily filled by another Castro, Chavez, Noriega – or worse ~

We have government officials abusing the law and the citizens. We have a complicit media shielding those of a particular party and doing their best to suppress any dissemination of the facts. I personally don’t care if you’re a Democrat, Republican, or anything else. If you violate your oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, you should be arrested, tried, and thrown in jail. Period. What’s happening now is something that should never be in America.

And speaking of corruption ~
A whole lotta Democrat corruption going on ~ FBI rounds up the latest batch of Democrat politicians who thought laws only applied to we-the-sheeple. (Speculation is that the Republican round-up will be timed much closer to the mid-term elections for maximum adverse effect.)

On ObamaCare’s Birthday, Ballooning Problems ~ Ain’t that the truth? Notice how no one was throwing any parties?
Our family’s search for replacement healthcare was similar to Ann Coulter’s (can’t keep your plan, your doctor, or your hospital AND your premiums/deductibles will skyrocket), but I can’t describe our experience nearly as humorously as she can ~ I’ve been thrown off my health insurance — THANKS, OBAMACARE!

And, as we’ve all learned – Obama Administration: We Never Mean a Word We Say ~ Heritage article highlighting the endlessly evolving nature of the debacle that is ObamaCare.

Obamacare Forcing Another Michigan Hospital To Cut Budget And Fire Staff
~ More fallout. Smaller hospitals are finding the Affordable Care Act anything but affordable.

Malaysian Flight More Newsworthy Than 8,000 Veteran Suicides ~ A national disgrace that the main stream media refuses to even acknowledge.

Since March 8, an estimated 418 of our Military Veterans have committed suicide on American soil. That’s 415 more than the number of American passengers who perished on Flight 370.

A study by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reports that that an average of 22 Veterans commit suicide every day

There’s never been any mention on any news station anywhere about the greatest human disaster in American history, which is the catastrophic loss of 8,000 lives annually by suicide of those who defended our Nation’s freedom.

Tragic.

Growing opposition to biofuels

food-&-fuel

Apparently, even the UN does ~ Biofuels do more harm than good, UN warns ~

A leaked draft of a UN report condemns the widespread use of biofuels made from crops as a replacement for petrol and diesel. It says that biofuels, rather than combating the effects of global warming, could make them worse […]

… (the report notes) that growing biofuel crops on a large scale requires either the conversion of agricultural land used for food crops or the destruction of forests to free up land, possibly offsetting any reduction in carbon emissions from the use of biofuels.

Other concerns include increased stress on water supplies and rising corn prices as a result of increased demand for the crop, which is fermented to produce biofuel […]

(The report) puts pressure on world leaders to scrap policies promoting the use of biofuel for transport.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the O’Ministration would pay attention?

Of course we need to keep in mind that this is the same UN that believes man-caused climate change is threatening the planet’s very existence… but they do seem to be moving a bit closer to reality these days. Matt Ridley (WSJ) evaluates their current position ~

The UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) 2007 report was riddled with errors about Himalayan glaciers, the Amazon rain forest, African agriculture, water shortages and other matters, all of which erred in the direction of alarm. This led to a critical appraisal of the report-writing process from a council of national science academies, some of whose recommendations were simply ignored.

Others, however, hit home. According to leaks, this time the full report is much more cautious and vague about worsening cyclones, changes in rainfall, climate-change refugees, and the overall cost of global warming.

Ridley’s piece concludes with this common sense wisdom ~

Almost every global environmental scare of the past half century proved exaggerated including the population “bomb,” pesticides, acid rain, the ozone hole, falling sperm counts, genetically engineered crops and killer bees. In every case, institutional scientists gained a lot of funding from the scare and then quietly converged on the view that the problem was much more moderate than the extreme voices had argued. Global warming is no different.

Is it “treason”yet?

I haven’t seen this story anywhere else, but it was posted on the Judicial Watch Blog yesterday. If true – and there’s no reason to suspect it isn’t – doesn’t it come damn close to treason? Russia may not be our official “enemy,” but they sure aren’t an ally!

U.S. Gives Russia Free Military Equipment Used By Army, Marines

Behind closed doors the U.S. government is giving Russia free military equipment—also used to train American troops—even after President Obama announced punitive sanctions against Moscow and, more importantly, a suspension in military engagement over the invasion and occupation of Ukraine.

The secret operation was exposed this week by members of Congress that discovered it in the process of reviewing the Fiscal Year 2014 budget and the proposed Fiscal Year 2015 budget request. It turns out that the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has been providing the Russian Federation with the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES), the federal legislators say. The U.S. military uses MILES for tactical force-on-force training because it has a system of lasers and dummy ammunition to simulate ground combat.

MILESgearIt’s a crucial, military-grade technology that’s similar to a “laser tag” available in some commercial markets, according to one of the outraged lawmakers (Oklahoma Republican Jim Bridenstine) that helped uncover the scandal. Bridenstine, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has joined forces with Ohio Republican Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, to demand an end to the program. Along with about a dozen other House colleagues they penned a letter to Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, who oversees the agency carrying out the “irresponsible military equipment transfers” to Russia.

The Obama administration’s planned supply to the Russian Federation is a grave mistake given the recent invasion of Ukraine launched by Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, the legislators point out. “It is difficult to imagine a worse time to provide military-grade technology employed by the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, and Special Operations Forces to Russia than when it has illegally invaded Ukraine and is violating the intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty,” the letter to Moniz says. “To make matters worse, it is our understanding from the budget documents that the Department has been, and continues to propose, providing this technology to Russia free-of-charge.”

This is preposterous and borders on criminal if you really think about it. As if we need reminding, Congressman Turner recants Putin’s “brazen disregard for the sovereignty and stability of Eastern Europe” as well as his disregard for international law. “Despite this overwhelming evidence that Putin is not our ally, it is astonishing that the Obama Administration would still provide superior, U.S. military technology to an aggressive and advancing Russia,” Turner said. “The United States must seriously redirect its approach and immediately terminate all military aid to Russia.”

President Obama has already proven to be an international joke for his response to the worsening crisis in Ukraine. Even the mainstream media in this country has blasted the commander-in-chief’s foreign policy as based on fantasy. One famously liberal magazine published a satirical article saying that the Obama administration froze Putin’s Netflix account as a “major ramping up of sanctions.” In a piece published a few days ago, a former veteran congressman wrote this: “The embarrassment of U.S. impotence in dealing with Russian aggression in the Ukraine is only the beginning of what will likely be a series of foreign policy disasters.”

Why isn’t this getting more media coverage? PLEASE SHARE!

Burnt Offerings for Gaia?!

In light of the recent UN proclamation that extreme weather conditions are “human-induced,” Bob Greene at Junk Science rhetorically wonders how far humankind has really progressed ~

Heat waves in Australia, Typhoon Haiyan, Typhoon Fitow, a drought in China were all caused by humans says the UN. I suppose weather is not climate unless you need it to make your point.
So, if we controlled CO2 we wouldn’t have typhoons and droughts? Or do we also need to do something in addition to expiate our sins? When I listen to some wise men I wonder how far we’ve really progressed from ritual sacrifices…

Coincidentially, as if in answer to Greene’s queries, comes this horrific story from Great Britain – by way of the Twilight Zone ~
Aborted babies incinerated to heat UK hospitals!

The remains of more than 15,000 babies were incinerated as ‘clinical waste’ by hospitals in Britain with some used in ‘waste to energy’ plants […]

nhs-addenbrooke
Ten NHS trusts have admitted burning foetal remains alongside other rubbish while two others used the bodies in ‘waste-to-energy’ plants which generate power for heat.

Thank the Lord, some ethical sanity prevailed ~

Last night (3-23-14) the Department of Health issued an instant ban on the practice which health minister Dr Dan Poulter branded ‘totally unacceptable.’

blowinthewind2
Most early civilizations believed that they were at the mercy of the gods when it came to changes in the weather. It order to avoid various disasters; typhoons, droughts, earthquakes, flooding, volcanoes, etc., it was vital to appease the appropriate deity(s).

gaia-smlrThousands of years later, many in the green crowd, embrace Gaia (mother earth) as their new goddess. The tenets of this neo-pagan religion mandate that we carbon-based units atone for our “excessive” CO2 emissions. To comply we must all – just for starters – eliminate coal as a fuel source, erect bird-chopping wind turbines, drive electric cars, redistribute all our wealth on a global basis and go vegan.

But dear God, have the enviro-wackos actually regressed to the point where they’re offering up ritual sacrifices?!

Aborted and Miscarried Babies Used to Heat Hospitals in UK ~

Our abortion culture is responsible for this. The hospitals were only doing what was morally logical. If unborn babies are not human beings, then why all the moral fuss about burning them to heat hospitals?

After hearing about this story, I wasn’t the only one who immediately recalled that dystopian, futuristic movie from the seventies, “Soylent Green.” Susan D. Harris at the American Thinker was thinking along the same Orwellian lines: Soylent Green Really Is People

Progressives’ new racism

The Progressive Left regularly accuses conservatives of racism. Never mind that it’s a lie. If a slander is repeated long enough and loud enough the label sticks. But not without unfortunate consequences for society as a whole.

In this Washington Times piece, Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. of Milwaukee Co., WI exposes Leftism as a sadistic ideology, the new racism; ultimately destructive of the black community ~

sheriffDClarkeEvery attempt liberals have made to help black people, with their reliance on government-centered public-policy ideas, has worsened their lot in life. The family structure, once a foundation of the black community pre-1960, is in shambles. More black children grow up without a stable father in their lives as black men have been estranged from their children and emasculated by welfare policies. On top of that, more black people are living in poverty than ever before, our kids are chained to failing urban schools and more young black men are unemployed and in jail and prison. Liberal public policies and ideology have fostered this. Daniel Patrick Moynihan predicted it more than 50 years ago in his well-publicized report, “The Negro Family.” Fifty years later, the situation is worse than even he predicted.

Liberals call their ideology compassionate. I call it hateful. You would have to absolutely loathe black people to want to keep them mired in generational poverty and ignorance, living in ghettos with high unemployment, with their kids shackled to failing K-12 urban school systems and crime-ridden neighborhoods just to secure a permanent voting majority and to hang onto political power. This is borderline sociopathic behavior.

That the charge of racism against conservatives has no basis in reality matters not at all. “Social justice” sounds like a noble cause, ergo it must be advanced. To the tragic detriment of the very demographic that Progressives claim they want to help.

Supreme Court to decide whether 1st Amendment is still Constitutional

Tomorrow, nine justices in black robes will begin hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.. At issue is the employer mandate under the Affordable Care Act which compels the inclusion of contraceptives (including abortifacients) under employer-provided healthcare.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,
or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

The court will ultimately decide whether Americans still have the right to free exercise of religion* with regard to how they live their lives, including how they operate their own business.

The Becket Fund is representing the Green Family. You can get more information about the case HERE.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the meantime, Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, suggests that all Christians pray for a favorable decision in this case, asking God to protect American’s religious liberty ~
Lord God, Our Father, you are the Righteous Judge over all the earth. We pray that you will have mercy on the United States as the Supreme Court hears a case that will shape the balance between government power and freedom of religion.
Give words to the attorneys for Hobby Lobby as they argue that our free exercise of religion includes how Christians live and work, not just what we do when we gather for worship, so that whatever we do in word or deed, we may do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
supremecourt-angel-smlr
God, enlighten the Justices of the Supreme Court to acknowledge that you alone are Lord of our consciences. Give the Court humility to recognize that you are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and that you have instituted human government so that your people may serve the Lord without fear, in holiness and righteousness before you, all the days of our life.
And Lord, give us grace and boldness to use the religious liberty that we still have to make your truth and mercy known. Amen.
* To clarify the respondents’ argument – from The ACA’s Heavy Burden at National Review Online ~
While the issue is at heart a constitutional one, Hobby Lobby is not in this instance appealing to the First Amendment but rather to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which was passed by a unanimous House, a near-unanimous Senate, signed into law by President Bill Clinton, and certified as constitutional as applied to the federal government in a 2006 Supreme Court decision. The act sets a high standard that the federal government must meet when it burdens the free exercise of religion and was enacted in response to court decisions that had narrowed First Amendment protections. It is intended to reinstate the “Sherbert test,” which holds that in a case in which the involved parties hold a sincere religious belief and the federal government places a substantial burden on the exercise of that belief, then the federal government must both prove a “compelling state interest” in burdening religious exercise and — perhaps most important in this case — demonstrate that it has sought to secure that compelling interest in the least restrictive fashion[…]
The decision will be only incidentally about what kind of health insurance we have — it will be about what kind of country we have.
Supreme Court Should Uphold Hobby Lobby’s Religious Freedom, Overturn Obama’s HHS Mandate
Debunking AlGore & Co. and their climate alarmism
Ever wonder how this whole phoney climate crisis meme got started? Longtime weatherman John Coleman (currently with KUSI/San Diego), who founded The Weather Channel explains its origins in this video ~
Video via Junk Science
Here’s the condensed version:
Once upon a time, an impressionable youth named Albert Gore, Jr., looking for a cause to call his own, happened to take his Harvard professor much too seriously. Roger Revelle, a famous scientist and scholar with a Ph.D. in oceanography, unfortunately started the alarm bells ringing with his “discovery” that the oceans were unable to absorb excess carbon dioxide that might come from human activities. Realizing that power-hungry utopian types might use his studies for nefarious purposes (like population control and other totalitarian activities!) Revelle tried to assure the enviro-wackos that panic was totally unwarranted; that the scientific basis for greenhouse warming was too uncertain to justify drastic action…
Unfortunately for the cause of climate realism, AlGore had found his misguided mission in life (and his road to riches) and was not going to be deterred by any inconvenient truth (to coin a phrase). He even accused his former hero of senility.
Gore and his fellow climate thugs must be stopped before any more of our energy is wasted, and our wealth redistributed, based on a huge hoax.
Saturday Shorts – 3-22-14
sshorts3-10-12
Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Dozens of Planes Have Vanished in Post-WWII Era ~ Since cable news networks have been reporting 24/7 on the lost Malaysian flight, you might think it was the first plane to ever go missing. Nope -it’s just one of 83 since 1948.
Obama: ‘Immigration People’ Won’t Find Out About Illegal Relatives if You Enroll in Obamacare ~ Un-be-lievable! This is like the chief of police giving shoplifters advice on how not to get caught ripping off the local grocery store. Can we impeach this lawless poseur yet?!
Big Beer Bows to ‘Gay’ Bullies in Reprobate America ~ Since when does anyone have a “right” to be in a parade – especially for the sole purpose of making a political statement? Yet Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams all caved in to immorality.
And Nabisco is actually promoting it ~
Nabisco Ad: Homosexuality ‘Wholesome’ ~ Graham cracker commercial portrays…
…a homosexual couple raising two children with a voiceover stating “this is wholesome.”
The ad begins with a father bottle feeding his baby as another father slips in to kiss the baby’s forehead.
Odd. Somehow “wholesome” isn’t a word I’ve ever associated with anal sex.
Generation Triple X ~
Pornography is an assault on human dignity, because it changes the way a viewer looks at and relates to other people. When a man consumes porn, women become a commodity rather than a person. And this alters how men treat women off-screen, too, and threatens real and loving relationships.
Resources to help those caught in pornography’s web.
Ted Cruz: DOJ’s refusal to appoint special IRS prosecutor ‘height of hypocrisy’ ~ Presently, the lead attorney in the Department of Justice’s investigation is Barbara Bosserman. She just happens to have donated more than $6,700 in recent years to President Obama’s political campaigns and the DNC; clearly a partisan Democrat.
“Sadly … Eric Holder has chosen to reject the bipartisan tradition of the Department of Justice of putting rule of law above political allegiance.” ~ Sen. Ted Cruz
Meanwhile, your tax dollars are hard at work…
NASA Promotes Communist Agenda in New Research Study ~ Apparently the Muslim-outreach thing wasn’t ridiculous enough ~
According to the report, civilization collapse can be avoided, “and population can reach a steady state at the maximum carrying capacity, if the rate of depletion of nature is reduced to a sustainable level, and if resources are distributed equally.”
Not only does this NASA funded study support Communism but population control and “sustainability,” which is another term for Agenda 21 and fighting fictional global warming.
How much weight should our opposition to abortion carry in our voting decisions? ~ Every Christian needs to remember that we all have a Higher (eternal) Authority to answer to than our present transient government.
Memo to atheists: It’s “freedom OF religion”
In this recent video AlfonZo Rachel(ZoNation) takes on the radical irreligious group Freedom From Religion Foundation ~
Mark Steyn recently wrote about this new breed of rabid atheists who seem intent on pushing their extreme brand on unbelief on everyone else ~
A group called American Atheists is currently suing over the inclusion of a metal cross in the National September 11th Memorial and Museum, which is scheduled, after 13 lethargic years, to open in May. I think most recent American jurisprudence on the so-called “separation of church and state” is stark staring nuts. It seems perfectly obvious what the Founders intended, given the world into which their fledgling republic was birthed: They did not want the President Washington to be Supreme Governor of the Church of America, as today Queen Elizabeth II is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and they did not want the Archbishop of New York to have a seat in the United States Senate, as today the Archbishop of (old) York has a seat in the House of Lords. The notion that they wished to prohibit crosses on all government property or (per one ludicrous New Jersey decision) the performance at the school “holiday” concert of an instrumental version of “Silent Night” is nonsense – and a fine illustration of where putting all your eggs in the basket of nine robed rulers can lead. Aside from anything else, it’s child abuse: Most of the greatest achievements of western painting, sculpture, architecture, and music have a religious theme, so to prevent the school band playing, say, the Bach Passions or Handel’s oratorios is profoundly wicked.
“Profoundly wicked,” deliberately twisting the language of the Constitution, cheapening the value of life… you really have to wonder about who is behind organizations that are so outspokenly anti-God… 😈
Is Russell Crowe’s latest film scriptural?.. NO-ah!
Noah, the latest film from Darren Aronofsky, starring Russell Crowe, is set to open next week. If you’re a believer, and hoping to find it true to scripture, you should probably just stay home and re-read the Book.
According the reviews and interviews I’ve encountered, the film badly misses the main point of the story (mankind was so thoroughly wicked that God decided He would start over with the only faithful man left on the planet) and replaces it with radical environmentalist propaganda.
In this neo-Noah fantasy, human actions have ruined the earth. Aside from flatly contradicting the Bible, this version of the story isn’t even logical. Considering the fact that the world was sparsely settled by agrarian societies at the time of Noah, the human impact on the planet would have been so limited as to be completely irrelevant. But hey – it’s Hollywood. Creative license and all that…
neo-Noah
Just to be clear on how un-Biblical Aronofsky’s take is, here’s the original scripture ~
Genesis 6:5-14 ~
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japeth.
The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
noah
And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.”
Not quite sure how you avoid that whole “corrupt” thing. It’s pretty much the entire reason God brought the flood…
Dennis Prager has an interesting article about the tale of Noah and the lessons it affords ~ Noah: One of the Most Moral Stories Ever Told. He believes there are at least four crucial messages in the story:
• If evil becomes widespread enough, there is no longer a purpose to human existence.
• God values goodness more than any other human trait. [Thus, the only reason Noah was saved was that “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations” (Genesis 6:9). This alone renders the Biblical story unique among the flood stories of the ancient world. In those stories, a very common reason the gods saved a man was that the gods found him physically, not morally, exceptional.]
• God hates evil. And so should we.
• Divine revelation is a moral necessity. [Man’s conscience isn’t enough to define “goodness.” After the evil that led to the flood, God decided to reveal basic moral rules – most importantly, the 10 Commandments.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What Aronofsky and Crowe are peddling is extremist enviro-hype about human-caused climate change. It’s aimed at forcing us to de-industrialize and go back to the horse and buggy days (without the horses though – too much methane!) in a pointless effort to save the planet.

Other than the name, all neo-Noah has in common with the real deal are an ark, a flood and some animals.

Noah Set to Flip the Biblical Script ~

Beyond artistic license, (Aronofsky) seems to have defiled the story’s essence. Imagine a film about the terrorist attacks of 9/11 which portrayed the hijackers as Hindu, and you understand the difference between artistic license and fraud.

The growing intolerance of climate alarmists

pravda

“We truly live in Bizarro times when Pravda tells the
truth & the Western MSM spouts bold faced nonsense.”

~ MisterDa at Free Republic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow. Even Pravda – the original propaganda arm of the Communist Party – (and still über -loyal to the Motherland) gets it right on AGW (anthropological global warming) ~
The foundation publications for modern global warming science meet no criteria for valid science. Methodologies are not given, measurements are not made and evidence is not described. Instead, preposterous fantasies on atmospheric studies are glibly mentioned with self-contradictory blather. The studies consist of nothing but a desired end point with fictitious methods of deriving the result.
Anyone willing to do some basic research will discover that Pravda’s assessment is correct. In an odd ideological inversion, it’s now pseudo-scientists from the free west who are peddling falsehoods. Not only that, some of them are sounding eerily like the old KGB: US Philosophy Professor: Jail ‘Denialist’ Climate Scientists for Criminal Negligence ~
Lawrence Torcello – assistant professor of philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology, NY, writes in an essay at The Conversation that climate scientists who fail to communicate the correct message about “global warming” should face trial for “criminal negligence”. 😯
Never mind that – as Pravda puts in – the man-caused climate change claims are total fakery ~
Scientists do not have the slightest ability to convert the details, complexities and randomness of the atmosphere to measurement or calculation, which is why weathermen cannot predict more than a few days for simple elements such as temperature and precipitation […]
Those of us who disagree are told that we are “flat earthers.” Senator Barbara Boxer says she can look out the window and see it happening. Weathermen can only predict the weather for a few days into the future due to the extreme randomness of atmospheric effects which do not reduce to analysis. Yet climatologists determine the snow surface area and the amount of radiation it will reflect for at least the next hundred years.
agw-not
It still seems easy to laugh these censorship advocates off as a wacky fringe group, but their voices are growing louder and harsher. We need to start taking them much more seriously.
steynVSstick2Especially since – as Mark Steyn found out recently – these enviro-marxists have no sense of humor. Steyn, author, columnist and frequent guest host on the Rush Limbaugh Show is actually being sued for having the temerity to mock the already thoroughly discredited “hockey-stick” theory of AGW.
Viscount Monckton responds to Lawrence Torcello’s irresponsibly outrageous rant, citing the First Amendment and the very policy on academic freedom that Torcello’s school, the Rochester Institute of Technology, embraces ~
By looking at only one side of the account, and by threatening scientists who disagree with him with imprisonment for criminal negligence, Mr Torcello offends fundamentally against the principles of academic freedom that he will himself no doubt pray in aid when he is confronted with the present complaint, and against the principle of tolerance of diverse opinions – including, horribile dictu, opinions at variance with his own – that is enjoined upon him by the Institute’s mission statement, and by common sense.
Touché.
