Translation: they’re more irrational. And further ~

Researchers said that the words that conservatives use typically reflect their religious and national identities, while liberals use language that focuses more on their individual identity.

One of the more interesting members of the DSA is Kurt Stand, a communist spy for the Soviet Union (and then Russia) and East Germany who was sentenced to prison in 1998 and released in 2012. He served over 17 years. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage, attempted espionage, and illegally obtaining national defense documents.
 
Where is he now? Thanks to the DSA, we know that Stand has returned to the organization, which is campaigning hard for Sanders for president. Indeed, DSA has posted photos of Stand and his comrades promoting “socialist values” and the Sanders campaign at the Greenbelt (Maryland) Labor Day Festival.

The Dope Debate

pot1Not surprisingly, in Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate, Senator Rand Paul affirmed his pro-legalization stand on marijuana. He just can’t help himself. It’s his inner libertarian. But I wish the good doctor would analyze the provocative issue less like a politician and more like the physician that he is.
 
Suppose we diagnose the situation before we prescribe a solution…
 
Super Weed
First of all, today’s marijuana is not your daddy’s pot. According to the Marijuana Potency Project, the average amount of THC (the primary psychoactive ingredient in the drug) in today’s marijuana is 9.6 to 13%. That’s more than double the potency of pot in the 70’s and early 80’s.
 
Why do you think they call it “dope?”
Numerous studies have shown that the negative effects of marijuana on the developing adolescent brain can be significant. Not just higher addictive potential and a possibly heightened risk of developing psychosis, but Cannabis Use in Teens Linked to Irreparable Drop in IQ. Scary stuff.
 
Marijuana is a “gateway” drug
While not everyone who smokes pot moves on to harder drugs, almost everyone who does escalate, started with weed.
Just last night I was listening to Dr. Michael Brown interview Pastor Dimas Salaberrios, a former drug kingpin (fascinating life story, have to get his book), who’s now a Christian. When Brown asked his opinion about legalization Salaberrios didn’t hesitate; “It’s a terrible, terrible plan! … Everyone knows that marijuana is the gateway to harder drugs… I’m totally praying that we’re not that dumb.”
 
Another substance-abuse problem?
Both alcohol and tobacco have demonstrable adverse effects on, not only individual health, but for society in general; healthcare costs, loss of productivity, negative impact on relationships, etc.. (We’ve been demonizing tobacco for decades, but smoking weed is OK?) Do we really need to legalize another substance with the potential for at least as many problems?
 

Rocky Mountain High is a bummer
Earlier this year, Colorado’s Gov. Hickenlooper (a Democrat, incidentally) admitted “legalizing marijuana was a ‘bad idea.’” Numerous stories from his state confirm that assessment:
• Colorado’s ‘Pot Pregnancies’ Birthing New Generation of Crack Babies
• Colorado’s legal pot is THREE TIMES stronger than it was a generation ago and is contaminated with fungus, heavy metals and pesticides, chemical analysis finds
• Marijuana Edibles Blamed For Keystone, CO Death
• Teen: Colorado voters were duped into legalizing recreational marijuana ~ Confirming the higher addiction potential among youth.
 
Wherever it’s been legalized (CO, WA, AK, OR), marijuana use increases, and user age decreases. (It’s hardly surprising that “Big Marijuana” would actively seek to grow its customer base.) Is that really something America needs right now?

The president ignores the position of his own Office of National Drug Policy on marijuana legalization ~

Confusing messages being presented by popular culture, media, proponents of “medical” marijuana, and political campaigns to legalize all marijuana use perpetuate the false notion that marijuana is harmless. This significantly diminishes efforts tkeep our young people drug free and hampers the struggle of those recovering from addiction.

From all the evidence I’ve seen (including reading the extensively researched and documented “Going to Pot” by William J. Bennett & Robert A. White), the only pro-legalization argument with any validity is the point Sen. Paul brought up about medical applications. But – thus far – proven benefits have been very, very limited. And there are actually some possible alternatives already legally available: Marinol (synthetic marijuana) and Sativex (spray version of cannabis extract).
 
If there were a reliable way to regulate and control legitimate medical marijuana use (pain relief for terminally-ill patients for instance) we could probably make an exception on a very limited basis. But broad-based legalization? Just because people want to get buzzed? Seriously ill-advised.
 

Senator Rand Paul may be tempted by his libertarian leanings, but I would hope Doctor Rand Paul would know better.

The Democrats who rule the state Legislature and serve their masters, the Illinois teachers unions, passed a $34 billion budget this summer that is $5 billion in the red, flouting the state’s balanced budget requirement.

 

The rest of the country ignores this looming economic implosion at its peril.
 

What is scary is that the fiscal virus that has incapacitated this once-great city and state may soon spread to a city or town near you. Amazingly, national Democrats are saying with straight faces that to help American workers and make the country great again we need more powerful unions.

Commemorating the innocents sacrificed to abortion

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 12th, is the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children.
 
As I type that sentence I’m reflecting on how, not that long ago, God forgive me, I was firmly on the other side of the abortion issue. When I would see one of those roadside memorial displays of small crosses I would usually just shrug. Somehow I didn’t make the connection with the millions of lost lives that they represented. I realize now that I really didn’t want to make the connection.
 
Coming of age in the wake of the sexual revolution, like so many of my peers, I believed all the self-serving propaganda of the pro-choice movement. Woo-Hoo! Sex was suddenly supposed to be consequence-free. Why should anyone be “punished with a baby.”
 

But slowly, patiently, the Lord brought my heart around to the truth: life begins at conception; each fertilized egg is the beginning of a unique creation, a brand-new life; ending that life is murder, plain and simple.

McConnell embraces his inner poltroon, surrenders on Iran “deal”

For the last several months I’ve been documenting the many reasons to reject the O’Ministration’s rotten “deal” with Iran. (Here, here and here.) There’s no question that any sane individual, who’s honestly taken the time to educate themselves about this agreement, could ever support its terms. It’s a total capitulation to Iranian nuclear ambitions, complete surrender to a charter member of the “axis of evil.”
 

Here’s a gruesome reminder of that evil from one of our wounded warriors ~

 

Now a potent dose of harsh reality like that would certainly give most normal Americans pause… but not our stellar member of the RINO Ruling Elite. Eschewing sanity – and moral clarity – Senate Majority Leader McConnell, has just folded like cheap lawn chair on the deal, betraying America, Israel, and the Constitution.
 
Sensing that opposition momentum to the “deal” was building, yesterday the duplicitous senator frantically rushed through a vote (unnecessarily ahead of the Sept. 17th deadline), to purposely avoid any further honest debate. What’s truly unconscionable is that all along there was a legitimate way to prevent this fiasco.

 

This agreement with Iran has been falsely promoted as a “deal” since Kerry triumphantly announced it earlier this summer. Wrong. It was negotiated as a treaty (a legally binding long-term agreement between sovereign powers) and remains a treaty. And as such, is subject to Congressional approval (not to Obama’s pen!).
 
But instead of adhering to the constitution, insisting on calling it a “treaty” and demanding that the proper procedures be followed, according to Mark Levin, there’s no question that Mitch McConnell cut a deal with Barack Obama to push the agreement through exactly as it has been.
 

Here’s Levin’s September 10th show. It’s a must-listen (especially the first 1/2 hour or so) if you want to understand what really happened with this outrageous stunt ~


 
Corker-Cardin, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act was a sham, specifically engineered to get around the legitimate, Constitutional treaty process.
 
In fact, after a review of the administration’s “deal,” several reasonable amendments were introduced in the Senate with the aim of putting teeth into the agreement, to require some accountability from Iran. Guess who voted them all down? McConnell and his little sub-party of poltroons [including Bob Corker (TN), Lindsey Graham (SC), Lamar Alexander (TN), Jeff Flake (AZ)].

 

Even John Podhoretz, no great friend of conservatives, considers their feckless actions a betrayal ~ Spitting on the Constitution to pass the Iran deal ~

To call this a scandal doesn’t even begin to do justice to what it is. It really does suggest we are fast turning into a banana republic, whose leaders feel free to spit on a Constitution whose central purpose is to restrain the ambitions of strongmen and their shameful toadies.

Had the Republicans – who incidentally, currently control both houses of Congress – presented a united front and done the right thing; demanded that this treaty be treated as treaty and opposed the president’s capitulation to the world’s leading sponsor of Islamic terrorism, this disastrous “deal” could have been decisively undone.
 
Instead, under Mitch McConnell, United States Senate proceedings have become a non-stop Kabuki Theater production.

This week the House Judiciary Committee has been holding a hearing on Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices, the first such hearing since a series of undercover videos produced by the Center for Medical Progress exposed how the abortion provider is selling aborted baby parts for profit.
 
Yesterday, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ)) described a conversation from one of the videos which recounted two Planned Parenthood employees actually removing the brain of an unborn baby whose heart was still beating! ~

“One of these videos describes an incident where one of Planned Parenthood’s employees calls one of the younger employees over to witness something that was ‘kinda cool,’ that one of the babies’ hearts was still beating,” said Franks.

“The older employee then said, ‘Okay, this is a really good fetus, and it looks like we can procure a lot from it. We can procure a brain.’ And then using scissors, together the two employees, starting at the baby’s chin, cut upward through the center of this child’s face and pulled out the baby’s little brain and placed it in a container where it could later be sold,” he said.
 
“Mr. Chairman, I find it so crushingly sad that the only time this little baby was ever held by anyone in his short life was by those who cut his face open and took his brain,” said Franks during an emotional opening statement.

 

Odd isn’t it? Somehow the network news forgot to report on this hearing. They couldn’t even be bothered to mention the following points from the committee’s press release yesterday ~

• This is the first public hearing in the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Committee, and the Committee has indicated that it intends to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for its alleged actions.
• Planned Parenthood advocates do not address the atrocities within the Center for Medical Progress’ videos and have no defense for the horrific acts described in the videos.
• Planned Parenthood receives over half a billion dollars from the federal government and Congress has an obligation to the American taxpayer to investigate its disturbing activities.
• The Supreme Court’s upholding of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act in 2007 acknowledges the horrors of late-term abortions.
• The House has already passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would prohibit abortions, with certain limited exceptions, when women are entering the sixth month of pregnancy and the Senate is urged to take up this legislation.

 

Thus far, the Center for Medical Progress has released nine videos exposing the truth about Planned Parenthood and their abortion business. Life Site provides a brief summary of each one HERE.

 
That’s nine different reports exposing not just the selling of fetal parts to the highest bidder, but callous disregard for the uniqueness and sanctity of each precious little life that they’re snuffing out. Yet after the initial outcry over the videos – and subsequent denials and false accusations of “heavily-edited” footage by PP – how much does the average drone even know about this ongoing horror show?

In a recent article at LifeSite Jonathon Van Maren, a writer and pro-life speaker (US & Canada), discussed how the mainstream media, and subsequently most North Americans, are pretty much oblivious to these chilling revelations about Planned Parenthood ~ The media is pro-abortion. The media then often becomes what veteran pro-life strategist Gregg Cunningham calls a “force multiplier”—drawn to the controversy that inevitably surrounds pro-life activism, they show up with their cameras, film our projects, record our conversations, and ask us why we do what we do. And then they pass that information on—often in a twisted and biased form, true, but still, glimmers of truth shine through. This year alone, almost every major media outlet in Canada has covered our activism exposing abortion across the country. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Canadians were again exposed to an abortion debate that is only just beginning to heat up.

In an era where people often hear, whether by accident or by design, only what they want to, it is the task of pro-life activists to bring the truth directly to the people. We have to expect shock, disbelief, and even anger—because many people realize, for the first time, what abortion really is. There is no one else providing them with this information. But time after time, we see them process this information, and realign their worldview. And when they do, lives are saved.
