Saturday Shorts – 12-24-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

USPS carrier not allowed to deliver while wearing Santa suit (Bellevue, WA) ~ “Scrooged!” But – good news – the federal bureaucrats have reconsidered and reached a compromise, allowing mailman Bob McLean to don his Santa hat on Friday and wear the full suit on Christmas Eve. How magnanimous of them.
Meanwhile, the “War on Christmas” continues apace. World Net Daily chronicles the various assaults: The ultimate guide to attacks from anti-Christmas Grinches.

Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up to $250K Per Vehicle ~
GM has sold around 6,000 Volts so far. Taking advantage of some 18 different government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits, each vehicle was subsidized between $50,000 and $250,000. If you include the manufacturers who produced the Volt batteries, the potential government subsidy per Volt increases to $256,824.

…“It’s a glaring example of the failure of central planning trying to force citizens to purchase something they may not want. … They should let the free market make those decisions.” – Michigan State Rep Tom McMillin (R-Rochester Hills).

Oh, and here’s the American Taxpayer’s Loss on GM Stock Investment ~
$16, 521,120,755.00 – and counting.

Even Before Fast and Furious, They Had Guns on Their Minds ~ Obama, Holder, Clinton & Napolitano – oh my! Yes, it’s been a devious plot to steal our liberty since at least the ’08 election.

Global Warming and Walnut Trees: a Case Study in Deception ~ Nuts to global warming! Watts Up With That reports on a clear case of deliberate (devious!) misrepresentation of scientific research.

…a sad example of how money and ideology have corrupted contemporary science. Everything has to be tendentiously linked with climate change in order to obtain money. The public is being swindled, and the respect people have for science and scientists is being eroded.

Iraq’s Christians Near Extinction ~ Somehow the msm just totally misses this story…

Note the two important facts here that play over and over whenever Christians are persecuted under Islam: 1) Despite their frequency and severity, they “receive little international attention” (indeed, only the most spectacular of terrorist attacks on Christians—such as the 2010 Baghdad church attack which left some 60 dead—ever receive mainstream media attention); and 2) as usual, the attacks followed “a sermon last Friday by a local mullah” (in other words, are Islamic in nature).

Court: New Jersey Nurses Don’t Have to Assist in Abortions ~ Wanted to end on a happy note. Good news indeed!
