America’s dearth of dads

“Dad, how do I?”

That’s the clever name of a recently created YouTube channel devoted to sharing “dadvice,” provding practical content to many basic tasks that everyone should know how to do.

The channel’s immense popularity – millions of views, 2.34 million subscribers – is a testament to the fact that far too many kids these days are growing up without fathers in their lives.

“Dad, how do I?” popped up on my radar last month in a Bill Whittle video, Videos Reach Millions, Answer Fatherless American’s Heart Cry ~

Rob Kenney’s just a middle-aged father of two adult children, but his YouTube channel — started during the pandemic shutdown — now has more than 2 million followers who want to see him teach how to tie a tie, or change a tire, or unclog a drain. The commenters on his videos seem to find an instant emotional bond with something that — in many cases — they never had.

The Whittle video is well worth a watch, affording a poignant look at the amazing impact “Dad” has on our lives. Here are three grown men who can’t help tearing up when talking about how much their dads have meant to them ~

Watching all these feral children running wild in the streets of our major cities these last few weeks, I can’t help but wonder how much of their destructive rage can be traced to a huge hole in their lives, caused by the absence of a real father in the home.
