Real heroes don’t offend, they inspire

I’m not a big fan of soccer to begin with, much less the women’s version, so I’m with David Marcus on this one: “I’m Sorry, But The Women’s World Cup Is Basically Unwatchable” ~

Lack of interest in the women’s World Cup is not misogyny, it’s boredom. The version of soccer being played just is not compelling. That could change. A new form could be created for women, as has been created in other sports.

But for now, it just looks like smaller, weaker, slower players miming the beautiful game that men execute at miraculous levels. That’s not going to capture the imagination of the world. And we should stop pretending that it should.

All true. Still, my reason for avoiding this particular World Cup competition goes beyond skill levels and the boredom factor – to a rude, arrogant ingrate named Megan Rapinoe. The U.S. women’s soccer team captain, Rapinoe has defiantly refused to sing the national anthem before competitions because – as she so charmingly puts it, “My national anthem protests are an ‘F you’ to Trump administration” ~

Radical leftist Megan Rapinoe started kneeling during the national anthem back in 2016. She said it was a protest against “white supremacy” and in support of black lives matter movement. She later said it was a protest against the treatment of gays in the US.

But last week she said her protesting during the anthem is her f*** you to Trump and all of his racism.

[What racism would that be?]

Furthermore, she’s “not going to the f***g White House” if team wins World Cup.

What an inspiration to young girls everywhere huh? Trash-mouth Rapinoe uses her celebrity to disparage the very country which has afforded her opportunities unparalleled in history – and impossible to find in almost any other country in the world.

Fortunately for aspiring young soccer players, there’s a much more courageous female athlete who’s truly worthy of admiration. Jaelene Hinkle is more than talented enough to be playing with these women at the World Cup, but her unapologetic Christianity kept her from remaining on the team ~

Hinkle’s saga began back in 2015 after the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex “marriage.” Hinkle posted the following on Instagram: “I believe with every fiber in my body that what was written 2,000 years ago in the Bible is undoubtedly true …. This world may change, but Christ and His Word NEVER will.”

JaeleneHickleAs you can imagine, this made Hinkle a marked woman, especially among soccer fans who identified as LGBT.

Then, in 2017, Hinkle chose to withdraw from the national team rather than wear a U. S. team jersey sporting rainbow numbers in order to celebrate gay pride.

Hinkle explained her decision, “I just felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasn’t my job to wear this jersey… I gave myself three days to just seek and pray and determine what (God) was asking me to do in this situation. If I never get another national team call-up again then that’s just a part of His plan, and that’s okay. Maybe this is why I was meant to play soccer, to show other believers to be obedient.”

What a huge contrast with the angry, smug, self-absorbed Rapinoe and her myopic view of world history and current events.

In light of eternity, strength of character – and a firm faith in Jesus Christ – is of far more value than the ability to kick a soccer ball around a field, whether the whole world is watching or not; God is.

Most Americans enjoy rooting for our teams in international competitions. Unfortunately, Megan Rapinoe – oblivious to the sentiments of her teammates and the rest of the country – tarnishes that experience for everyone.
