After months of fighting, ISIS has finally been driven out of their Syrian stronghold in Raqqa. They’ve also been pushed out of much of the territory they controlled in Iraq. (Somebody please tell the mainstream media )
 

 
As the beleaguered civilians in these countries are slowing trying to put their lives back together, they’re unfortunately still uncovering horrific evidence of the jihadists occupation ~

The bodies of civilians and security forces were found in an abandoned base near Hawija, a northern town retaken in early October, Kirkuk governor Rakan Saed said. He didn’t say when authorities will start exhuming the bodies from the mass graves.
 
Khalaf Luhaibi, a local shepherd who led troops to the site, said IS used to bring captives to the area and shoot them dead or pour oil over them and light them on fire. The area was strewn with torn clothing and what appeared to be human bones and skulls.

 
While U.S. forces under a new commander-in-chief finally came down on the right side of this conflict, actively helping to eradicate ISIS in the last several months, the previous administration was ambivalent. In fact it seems Obama was at least indirectly assisting the bad guys ~ US admits American arms given to Iranian jihadists in Iraq ~

Multiple sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon both on and off the record accused the State Department of making “common cause” with the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps), which they say has benefited from ongoing American efforts to arm and train Iraqi militia groups, many of which have direct ties to Iran.

 
“The U.S. military and government has been so desperate to defeat the Islamic State that it has consciously ignored that its allies in Iraq and Syria include Shia militias backed by Iran and the PKK [a Kurdish rebel group], which is designated by the U.S. government as foreign terrorist organization,” (Bill Roggio, a veteran military analyst) said. […]
 
“These groups were responsible for killing hundreds of U.S. troops in Iraq during our operations there last decade,” Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said. “Congress needs to get the facts about the relationship between our own State Department and these nefarious actors.”

 
All along the problem with arming any rebels in this Middle East muddle has been that it’s so very difficult to tell the bad guys from the really bad guys. As Willis L. Krumholz reported in this June 24th article, our very own CIA was training and arming rebels three years ago ~

In 2014, for example, a special program sought to train 15,000 rebels in Jordan and other countries before returning the rebels to Syria. Only “four or five” of the recruits in the program actually returned to Syria to fight. It is likely that most of the other “rebels” turned tail and sold their expensive American weapons to jihadists, including ISIS […]
 
U.S. weapons given to the bad guys have cost innocent human lives. One American-funded group, Ahrar al-Sham, directly collaborated with the Nusra Front in a raid on a village in 2016 that killed 19 civilians, including women and children. As you can imagine in a war such as this, this is only one of many atrocities committed by all sides.

 
So yes, there’s a very good chance that U.S.-supplied weapons were used to murder at least some of the civilians found in those mass graves. Obama’s legacy.
