Marching FOR – not against – life

Last weekend at the Women’s March in D.C. celebrities were crawling out of the woodwork. Most, it seemed, were trying to prove how crude, crass and frankly – disgusting – women can get when someone like Donald Trump makes them angry. In addition to being anti-Trump, the protestors seemed united in their fervent support for abortion.

Surprising no one, none of those well-known women managed to show up for today’s March For Life. It would never occur to them to root for a generation of women not yet born. Unfortunately the pervasive celebrity-culture exported by Hollywood is overwhelmingly pro-abortion.

Comedian and political commentator Ben Stein is that rare thing among celebrities: pro-life. Earlier this month he spoke with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto about Tinsel Town’s hypocrisy ~

“I’ve earned my living in the vineyards of Hollywood for the last 40 years,” he said. In that time, he came to realize that Hollywood is full of “thuggish bullies.” While “some of them are very nice people,” Stein said that many celebrities act as “a united blacklisting front who will go against anyone that they think is politically undesirable.”

“They are not for freedom of speech, they are not for freedom of expression. They are exactly the opposite of that,” Stein said. “Hollywood in general is trying to shut down free debate within Hollywood.” […]

“I was looking at a list of people I had at a party when I first came here in 1976,” he said. “Most of them won’t speak to me anymore because I’m a Republican. … Hollywood is a one party, one-policy state. You cannot go against the prevailing wisdom, you cannot go against the crowd, or you’re in real trouble.” […]

“The thing about Hollywood people is they think of themselves as workers and proletarians and the warriors of the revolution, but they’re also snobs,” said Stein. “They’re incredible snobs.”

I would add that the majority are selfish – as opposed to selfless. When you’re self-centered and self-absorbed you don’t spend much time time thinking about the unborn. Which of course is exactly why they went to one march – and not the other.

While the (Women’s March) certainly had some redemptive content, along with genuine concern about our new president, in no way was its overarching theme one of redemption or life or hope or even dignity. (In reality, many aspects of the Women’s March were downright degrading to women.)

In stark contrast, the great theme of the March for Life will be one of redemption and life and hope and dignity.
