BREAKING NEWS: Obama ends ‘wet foot, dry foot’ policy for refugees fleeing apartheid Cuba
 
In recognition of the oppression many Cubans suffered under the communist regime, this humanitarian policy was originally established by President Clinton. ‘Wet foot, dry foot’ granted automatic asylum to refugees who made it onto land in the U.S.; those intercepted at sea were returned to communist Cuba.

“The Department of Homeland Security is ending the so-called “wet-foot/dry foot” policy, which was put in place more than twenty years ago and was designed for a different era,” Obama said in a statement. “Effective immediately, Cuban nationals who attempt to enter the United States illegally and do not qualify for humanitarian relief will be subject to removal, consistent with U.S. law and enforcement priorities.”

 
So Obama is essentially removing the last shred of hope many Cubans have of escaping the poverty and persecution of Castro’s Cuba. WHY NOW? There’s simply no logic to the timing, or to the action itself – unless you’re just a heartless bastard who embraces totalitarianism. And a big phony who never did believe in liberty and justice for all.

El Sexto remains in prison today and his American lawyer, Kim Motley, was harassed and interrogated while in Cuba simply for representing him. Cubans are leaving the island in record numbers, and many of the 53 who were released as part of the Obama-Castro deal were subsequently rearrested.

Cuba Confiscates Toys from Christians Looking to Celebrate Feast of Epiphany ~ Via Breitbart ~

“Police executed an operation at the home of Leticia Ramos Herrería without her being present and took all the toys away that she had bought to distribute to more than 200 children this Three Kings’ Day,” according to Cuba’s dissident leader Martha Beatriz Roque, using another name common for the holiday.
 
“They took everything,” Berta Soler, the head of the Ladies in White group, lamented to Martí Noticias. The Spain-based Diario de Cuba adds that two of Ramo Herrería’s relatives, her son and brother, were beaten during the siege on her home.[…]
 
While many dissidents adhere to the Christian faith, the Vatican has largely done little to aid their work to liberate the island. Some priests have banned the Ladies in White from attending their Masses, while Pope Francis met with Fidel Castro before his death and called the nonagenarian’s overdue demise “sad news” in a condolence missive to dictator Raúl Castro.

Why would Obama want to make it more difficult for these particular foreigners to stay in the U.S. and pursue citizenship? Because that what his friend Raul Castro wants and because Cubans are one minority group that tends to support Republicans.
