The Olympic Sport-which-must-not-be-named

Quick – in which sport did the U.S. win its first gold medal in the 2016 summer games? If you don’t have a clue, don’t blame yourself. It’s the fault of mainstream media types, the vast majority of whom, gave the achievement little-to-no fanfare. The medal, you see, was awarded in a very non-PC sport: shooting ~ US shooting star wins first gold medal of Rio Olympics.

Were it any other event, Virginia Thrasher’s story would have been tailor-made for one of those segments offering a quick glimpse into the life of an individual athlete, which the producers like to toss in to pique your interest. Fox News at least gave her a mention ~

Virginia Thrasher went through a three-week spring whirlwind, winning three NCAA titles and a spot on the U.S. Olympic Shooting team.

The precocious 19-year-old closed out the summer with her biggest surprise yet.

Keeping her nerve on sport’s biggest stage, Thrasher on Saturday earned the first gold medal of the Rio Olympics, outlasting two-time gold medalist Du Li to capture the women’s 10-meter air rifle title.

“This is beyond my wildest dreams,” Thrasher said. “I knew it was a realistic expectation for me to get into the finals and once you get into the finals, anything can happen. For me, this year has been incredible.”

The United States had quite an impressive shooting team in Rio this year. None were arrested – or made worldwide headlines for bad behavior(!) – and overall they brought home three medals; 1 gold and 2 bronze.

But there’s just something about “guns” that the msm can’t quite bring themselves to cover in a positive light. Sponsors are afflicted with gun-phobia as well, as this article at PJMedia points out ~ ‘Little Known’ Olympic Shooters Snubbed by Sponsors While Media Play Dumb ~

It’s not that the competitive shooters have been demonized, it’s the media and their institutional left puppet masters that have demonized the gun as an object. The mere presence or possession of a gun in and of itself is unsavory and suspect. It’s as if the firearm causes its owner to become a bloodthirsty, murderous maniac instead of blaming a criminally minded, mentally deficient terrorist who is using an object for evil purposes […]

How can the media continue to turn the public against firearms if they feature admirable, dedicated individuals behaving perfectly normal in the possession of a gun?

Can’t have reality interfering with their nefarious plan to eventually repeal the Second Amendment can we?

So they won’t cover Thrasher, or bronze medalist Kim Rhode (skeet event), who made Olympic history last month tying a record for the most consecutive medals (6) ever won in back-to-back Olympic Games. Now 37, Rhode began her Olympic career at the 1996 Atlanta games when she was just 17.

Newsworthy? The Daily Signal thought so, and recently spoke with Kim: Olympic Champion Kim Rhode Talks Gun Control and Feminism, and Explains Why the Media Ignore Her. Rhode gets it :)
