Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

There’s No Proof Americans Want The Supreme Court To Save Obamacare ~ President Obama continues to labor under the delusion that his signature healthcare program is universally embraced by all the sheeple. David Harsanyi at the Federalist begs to disagree.

From quoting Demosthenes to OMG and LOL ~ The evidence of a dumbed-down populace is all around us. Still it’s staggering to realize just how far we’ve fallen in the last two centuries. Dr. Michael Brown contrasts the education level of 1700s U.S. with today ~

“As of 2011, America was the only free-market OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) country where the current generation was less educated than the previous one.”

High School Implants IUDs in Teen Girls Without Their Parents’ Knowledge or Consent ~ Promoting the slut culture; because it takes a village to subvert traditional families.

Gay Marriage Conservatives? ~ Paul Kengor at Accuracy in Media counters the ludicrous comment by Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld that “gay marriage, in my opinion, is a conservative idea” ~

Conservatism aims to conserve the time-tested values, ideas, and principles that have been sustained over time by previous generations and traditions. (Here, a crucial correction to Greg Gutfeld: gay marriage is not a tradition.) These are values, ideas, and principles—usually with a Judeo-Christian basis—that have endured for good reason and for the best of society, citizens, country, culture, and order […]

In an important speech at CPAC in February 1977, Reagan stated this [BTW – An excellent defense of the wisdom of conservatism]: “Conservative wisdom and principles are derived from willingness to learn, not just from what is going on now, but from what has happened before. The principles of conservatism are sound because they are based on what men and women have discovered through experience in not just one generation or a dozen, but in all the combined experience of mankind. When we conservatives say that we know something about political affairs, and that what we know can be stated as principles, we are saying that the principles we hold dear are those that have been found, through experience, to be ultimately beneficial for individuals, for families, for communities and for nations—found through the often bitter testing of pain or sacrifice and sorrow.”

Pastors Pledge Civil Disobedience If Supreme Court Redefines Marriage ~ In anticipation of the court’s upcoming decision, over 40,000 pastors and lay leaders have signed a petition pledging “Solidarity to Defend Marriage” ~

“Our highest respect for the rule of law requires that we not respect an unjust law that directly conflicts with higher law. A decision purporting to redefine marriage flies in the face of the Constitution and is contrary to the natural created order. As people of faith we pledge obedience to our Creator when the State directly conflicts with higher law. We respectfully warn the Supreme Court not to cross this line.”

Amen.

Spain in the Eye of the Storm of Jihad ~ Islam teaches that once Muslims have conquered a territory, even though they may subsequently lose it, it always “belongs” to them. Apparently ISIS has now decided they should take back Spain ~

… Meanwhile, “dozens” of jihadists and other Islamic radicals are entering Spain from neighboring France, where they are said to be “asphyxiating” due to a government crackdown following the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris in January […]

According to an anonymous Spanish intelligence operative interviewed by El Confidencial, a media outlet based in Madrid, French jihadists are moving to Spain because they feel they have “greater room for movement” on the Iberian Peninsula […]

The report says that most of the jihadists from France are moving to Catalonia and Spain’s Mediterranean coast, where they are attempting to “blend in” with Muslim communities there. Also known as the Spanish Levant, the region roughly corresponds with what was once known as Xarq al-Ándalus, territories that were occupied by Muslim invaders for nearly five centuries.

And then there’s the Scandinavian invasion ~
Goodbye Sweden ~ Thanks to cultural jihad by the Religion of Peace – and socialism on steroids – Sweden is no long the utopia the Left likes to think it is. Sobering account by a Swedish American who’s heading back to the states ~

Today, it’s as if the inmates are running the asylum. The politicians are participating in a chicken race of “goodness” where everybody tries to one-up each other in caring for the citizens of OTHER countries while Swedish retirees, school children, handicapped and other vulnerable categories of people are thorougly ignored. Violence is exploding. Jihadist Trojan horses are flowing through the porous border along with the tens of thousands ID-less refugees.

Norway’s in trouble too.

Miami School Principal Loses Job for Defending McKinney Cop Online ~ Unbelievable. Tow the progressive line or the thought police will get you; free speech be damned. Alberto Iber, the principal of North Miami Senior High School, was fired after posting on Facebook about the McKinney pool incident ~

He watched the video and posted the following message: “He did nothing wrong. He was afraid for his life. I commend him for his actions.”

Russian journalist quits and apologises for taking part in ‘propaganda madness’ ~ Wow. If only our mainstream media shills had this guy’s integrity ~

Renowned Russian journalist Konstantin Goldenzweig has resigned from state-funded TV channel ‘NTV’ after becoming disenchanted with the Kremlin’s misinformation campaign […]

“I want to thank all my colleagues who helped me, taught me, encouraged me and were my friends. And continue to be my friends. And sorry for taking part in this propaganda madness. There is only one banal conclusion: the deals with your own conscience are only as good as those you can cancel.”

American Pharaoh vs. Secretariat: Who Would Win? ~ Check out this cool side-by-side video of the Belmont Stakes from the Wall Street Journal. Which Triple Crown winner do you think was faster?

When God Interferes With Our Plans ~ Interesting consideration of Divine Providence in our lives, or in those of our loved ones.
