New Mexico Supreme Court repeals 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

In this week’s episode of “Disorder in the Court,”
we learn that freedom of religion is no longer
guaranteed under the Constitution.

Shocking I know, but that’s essentially what the Supreme Court of New Mexico ruled last week when they said that a Christian photographer discriminated against a homosexual couple when she refused to take photos of their “commitment” ceremony. World Magazine has details ~

Elaine Huguenin, who operates Elane Photography with her husband, Jonathan, cited her belief in the biblical definition of marriage when she declined to work with Vanessa Willock and her lesbian partner. Although Willock hired another photographer, she filed a complaint against Huguenin with the New Mexico Human Rights Commission. In 2008, the commission ruled Huguenin discriminated against Willock on the basis of her sexual orientation and ordered the photographer to pay $6,637.94 in attorneys’ fees, even though New Mexico does not recognize same-sex marriage or civil unions.

Most regular Americans (as Mark Levin calls them) know better than these activist judges. As Alliance Defending Freedom, who may appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court, reported ~

A Rasmussen poll last month found that “If a Christian wedding photographer who has deeply held religious beliefs opposing same-sex marriage is asked to work a same-sex wedding ceremony, 85% of American adults believe he has the right to say no.”

Yet with an arrogance we are unfortunately seeing more and more often, the NM court simply pretends the First Amendment doesn’t exist.

One News Now has an excellent article by Frank Turek that discusses the implications of this case ~

The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was put in place to prevent exactly what the New Mexico Supreme Court has done: using the strong arm of government to force citizens to advocate (not just tolerate) ideas and behaviors that contradict their religious or moral convictions. Forcing people to support same-sex weddings or commitment ceremonies is forcing them to advocate same-sex behavior.

America was settled and established by men and women who answered to a Higher Authority. An authority over and above temporal governments formed by mere mortal men. Our rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are guaranteed by our Creator – not by mere men-in-black on a bench.

Our country has a choice to make: either maintain the value of freedom enshrined in our Constitution, or usurp the value of freedom by mandating conformity to the gay agenda. Unless the church and other freedom-loving people begin to speak up and get involved – and by that I mean in politics, education, the media, and law – we will lose the very freedoms our founders spilled their blood to secure. ~ Frank Turek ~
