Did you miss “Islamaphobia Awareness Month?”

Islamaphobia Awareness Month? Who knew?

Pat Condell missed it too! But here’s his irreverent rant on just what it is that most of us non-Muslims have become “aware” of:

We’ve become aware that many Muslims have, well, “special needs,” in that they’re psychologically chained to a raft of appalling double-standards that we have to indulge if we’re to avoid tantrums and violence.

One caveat: While Condell does an exceptional job of calling out the Religion-of-Perpetual-Outrage on its duplicity, he does so as an atheist who would just as soon we do away with all religion. However, while dressing down Islamists, he comes across as an ardent, albeit unwitting, defender of Judeo-Christian values. Because, although those millennia -old values are gradually eroding, they are what still provide a philosophical foundation from which to debate, and to criticize non-Western traditions.

Condell couldn’t be nearly as confident in his argument without employing Judeo-Christian concepts such as of the rule of law, the individual worth and inherent dignity of each human being (he specifically mentions “universal brotherhood”), freedom of speech, of the press and from tyranny. The very idea of transcendent truth, which enables one to say “that is wrong because this is right,” is at the core of our cultural heritage.

Currently, the West still trudges along on the residual effects of our long established traditions and values. As these disappear, they’ll leave a philosophical vacuum. One that will be filled with something much less desirable. It will probably look at lot like tyranny. Maybe Islam.
