When You Believe

For Passover, which began yesterday at sundown:

From “Prince of Egypt”

Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness?
Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Exodus 15:11

Stolen childhood

OK – so now we know. The sexual revolution of the sixties wasn’t the glorious solution to the mythical angst and repression of the fifties that it was purported to be. “Free sex” never really is. Just look back over the decades at the damage that no-strings-attached sex has done to our culture: divorce, abortion, STDs, addictions, depression. Real, physical, emotional, psychological damage.

Many other blogs have discussed Jennifer Moses’ March 19th piece in the Wall Street Journal, “Why Do We Let Them Dress Like That?”. Lamenting the “hooker look” that even pre-preteens are displaying, Moses shared this quote from the mother of two adult daughters:

“If I could do it again, I wouldn’t even have slept with my own husband before marriage. Sex is the most powerful thing there is, and our generation, what did we know?”

Indeed. Speaking of her friends, Moses says:

“I don’t know one of them who doesn’t have feelings of lingering discomfort regarding her own sexual past. And not one woman I’ve ever asked about the subject has said that she wishes she’d ‘experimented’ more.”

Regrets, yeah, we’ve all had a few. So why aren’t we passing on the wisdom we’ve accumulated through our own experience, as well as the sobering statistics about “free sex”, to our children? We barrage kids with messages about the evils of smoking. But sex? Well (shrug), they’re going to do it anyway.

Which is why we get 12-year-olds dressed like hookers. And padded bikini tops for 8-year-olds. And now free condoms for 11-year-olds.

School districts country-wide have banned tag and dodgeball – “in the name of safety”. And now New York state is eliminating freeze tag and whiffle ball from summer camp programs – because they’re too “risky” and “dangerous”. But we’re passing out free condoms to 11-year-olds?

Scapes and bruises and even broken bones heal easily, but a child’s psyche?

Confronted with what’s been billed as a childhood obesity epidemic, we prevent kids from participating in any real physical activity except… sex?! And, at the risk of becoming repetitive, we pass out free condoms to 11-year-olds?! Gee, maybe we can set up little orgy areas on the playground. The 11 year-olds can give the kindergarteners lessons.

Dear Lord, as tough as it is to beat back our sexually-saturated culture, for the sake of our kid’s futures don’t we have to keep fighting? Because once their innocence is gone – they can’t get it back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I always want to know the “whys” of a particular social phenomenon. It drives my husband nuts – he says you just have to deal. But if you don’t understand the causes, how can you begin to solve the problem? Innocence Lost by Timothy Birdnow gives some insightful answers about why this sexualization of kids is occurring. And explains why it hurts boys at least as much as girls.
Can anyone tell me, who do we prosecute for the crime of stolen childhood? The angels are weeping.
Where we’re headed…?
Greece – A Country Unraveling
…in Constitution Square, where the “Can’t pay, won’t pay” movement has unrestricted freedom to intimidate citizens who do not want to break the law. In Patras, where a group of masked individuals attacked an 80-year-old Nobel laureate [James D. Watson who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1962].
Not good folks.
How the Left is Selling-Out its Entire (Purported) Base on Behalf of the “Green” Lobby
Up-dated: 4-19-11 @ 9:30
“Time To Kill Ethanol Subsidies” at Investors Business Daily has more real “corny” truth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A great piece by Italia Federici clearly illustrates why we would be “drilling here; drilling now” if the Regressive Left weren’t so blinded by their own upside-down world view:

Crippling gasoline prices take their toll on American families and businesses. Conservatives assert that domestic exploration will lower energy costs for individuals and employers. Democrats and liberals know this is true. But the ideological divide between smaller-government, greater-personal-freedom-advocating conservatives, and wealth-distribution-advocating, nanny-staters is un-crossable with this monetary argument.

These new no-deal Democrats are willing financial backers of those who summarily execute homosexuals worldwide, they are willing backers of regimes that oppress and murder women, are against the creation of union “family wage” earning jobs, are the enemy of the poor and the elderly and are callous to the effects of economic deprivation upon children. If the Left gave a damn, they’d drill here at home and stop voting with our dollars to support human rights atrocities. They’d drill here at home to help American families and the US economy.

Check it out: If the Left Gave a Damn, They’d Drill

In the Garden

When you’re having a really crappy day,

When God seems so very far away,

Sometimes you just need a new perspective:

Brother Zhang, a young medical doctor and preacher in Zhejiang, China, refused to join the government Three Self Patriotic Church. He was arrested and spent eighteen years in prison eating poor food, being beaten and drowning in the stench of cellmates. He shares this testimony…

“The eighteen years were a tremendous spiritual challenge, which brought great blessings I never before thought possible in my life. Prison officials ordered me to empty the camp night-soil pit, the prison’s cesspool. While I had little experience of physical labor, its hardship and suffering did not frighten me. Although most of the other prisoners dreaded night-soil pit duty as the most difficult task in prison, I accepted this assignment without complaint. The pit stored all the human excrement, both liquid and solid, from the entire camp. Once the pit was full, its human waste steeped until its foul contents were ripe enough to be used as fertilizer. Not only did I walk into this disease-ridden mess to remove it, but I had to breathe its stench as I scooped away each successive layer and dropped hundreds of shovel loads into collection buckets for others to carry to the fields.

The night-soil pit’s pungent odors lingered with the digger at least three days, literally surrounding him with an almost maddening stench. All the guards and other prisoners avoided the night-soil pit digger to escape being overcome by the lingering odor. One reason I could enjoy working in the night-soil pit was the solitude. Surrounded only by foul air and human waste, I could sing music of praise to God as loudly as I wanted. And the guards were never close enough to protest this otherwise objectionable behavior!

One of my favorite songs during those days was ‘In the Garden.’ My Chinese night-soil pit was hardly the garden that the composer of that hymn had in mind! But God delivered great happiness to me to be able to sing His praises in such earthly misery.”

RESPONSE
Today I will sing praises to God no matter
how terrible my circumstances turn out to be.

PRAYER
Lord, may all Christian prisoners experience the
joy of praising You in their trials this day.

With dependency & food stamps for all

Apparently, this development is all part of the master plan as Michelle Malkin reports:

In New York, Philadelphia and a total of 30 sites across the country, AmeriCorps and the Department of Agriculture are funding the “National Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps” to “increase access to food stamps.”

But – EPA official says jobs don’t matter. Right. Who cares how many they’ll destroy with their industry-killing dictates?

And yet, President Obama says Republicans, if they get their way, will turn the U.S. into a “Third World” nation. As this editorial at Investors Business Daily points out that’s exactly the transformation Obama’s been orchestrating all along. Talk about projection!

Call Spend-anon – we need an intervention

Are RHINOs just enablers – or are they addicts too? A good piece by Jeffery Lord at the American Spectator asks if and when the Republicans will preform a serious intervention – or join the Party of Charlie Sheen.

"I was shackled and oppressed by the cult of AA for 22 years."

Like Charlie Sheen, the American Left simply cannot stop itself. This argument is no more about abortion or liberals on the radio or Harry Reid’s cowboy poetry festival or cherry blossom parades than Charlie Sheen’s problem is about a contract dispute with CBS. This fight is a very, very serious and life-threatening… nation-threatening… fight with addiction.

If the Left is allowed to keep doing this America will wind up just like Charlie Sheen in that video. The most vibrant country in the world will become a country of eye-rolling, mood-swinging, paranoid, shaking, incoherent, spaced-out angry dudes and dudettes demanding ever more hard cold cash — cannibalizing in one way or another whomever or whatever refuses to hand it over.

Jesus is just too “controversial”

Sex, violence, profanity – not a problem for movie theater advertisements, according to NCM Media Networks. But Jesus? Well hey, they gotta draw the line somewhere!

So what’s new? As Rebecca Hagelin asks in her TownHall post:

Over two thousand years ago, powerful people tried to silence Jesus. Are we really surprised that people in power are still trying to silence him today?

More brilliance from Mark Steyn

Here’s Steyn’s pithy analysis of the President’s lame speech yesterday. Cometh the Hour, Punteth the Man

The whole speech was like that, a litany of brain-dead slapdash rhetorical questions that for sentient beings are no longer rhetorical: My fellow Americans, do we want an America where our most lethargic and mediocre youth are denied a leisurely half-decade acquiring a fraudulent six-figure credential in some worthless pseudo-discipline simply because we can’t afford it?

Gianna Jessen: abortion survivor

Just heard Gianna Jessen speaking on with Bob Dutko on his radio show yesterday. Amazing story. Awesome young woman.

Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn’t be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna’s biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, “born during saline abortion”…this is what caused her Cerebral Palsy.
