A happy, welcome trend

Catholic vocations are growing among Dominican sisters – and friars. It’s really encouraging to hear several of the brothers speak of the Truth; “God’s Truth is always the same”. If only we could all get back to that foundational point, and not let the world drag us every which way in confusion.

“…If you abide in My word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32

Looking for cheap gas?

Tired of emptying your wallet while filling up at the pump? 😡 Perhaps you should consider moving to the Middle East – or Venezuela: The 15 Cheapest places in the world to buy gas.

Obviously, government subsidies account for a good percentage of the lower costs (especially in Hugo’s case!). But we’d be a lot closer to $2.00/gallon if we were actually allowed to use our own natural resources.

Environmental Catastrophe?! Ummm – no, not really

One year ago the MSM was obsessed with the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Who can forget the non-stop videos of the oil gushing from that uncapped well? The dire predictions of doom? President Obama called it the nation’s worst environmental disaster (GASP!), demonizing BP and demanding justice (and of course $$$ in retribution!) while at the same time he was frustrating any genuine attempts to clean up the mess. If he hadn’t been so intent on using the spill to push through more economy-killing environmental restrictions, he would have taken the advice of the Heritage Foundation (and many others) – Obama’s Oil Spill To-Do List.

Twelve months after the spill, we’re only seeing a few follow-up stories. So how is the Gulf really doing a year later? Turns out – not so bad. Margaret Wente recaps in The Globe & Mail with “Can you handle the truth?”

One year after the worst oil spill in history, the Gulf of Mexico is nearly back to normal…
Armageddon didn’t happen. Instead of terrible harm to the biosphere, the Deepwater Horizon spill has caused only mild problems.

Shouldn’t the recovery story be trumpeted as loudly as the catastrophe story? Nah. The “disaster” image is stuck in the heads of most drones and that’s right where the administration and their proaganda machine – the MSM – want it.

Jesus Conquers the Tomb!

Happy Easter!

I “borrowed” this great quote of Ronald Reagan’s from the Patriot Post – because Jesus “really was what He said He was”:

“I still can’t help wondering how we can explain away what to me is the greatest miracle of all and which is recorded in history. No one denies there was such a man, that he lived and that he was put to death by crucifixion. Where … is the miracle I spoke of? Well consider this and let your imagination translate the story into our own time — possibly to your own home town. A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father’s shop. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father’s shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside, walking from place to place, preaching all the while, even though he is not an ordained minister. He never gets farther than an area perhaps 100 miles wide at the most. He does this for three years. Then he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal, so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing — the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place for him so he is interred in a borrowed tomb. End of story? No, this uneducated, property-less young man has, for 2,000 years, had a greater effect on the world than all the rulers, kings, emperors; all the conquerors, generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who have ever lived — all of them put together. How do we explain that — unless He really was what He said He was?” –President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004)

Looks like Sharia wins in Dearbornistan

So the U.S. Supreme Court says the wacko Westboro Baptists are good to go with their despicable protests at the funerals of our fallen heros – but in Dearborn, Michigan, the city says the standard now is: no protests allowed if they’re going to upset Muslims. Hello?! Do our laws even mean anything anymore? The Bill of Rights?

Good piece by Pamela Geller at Breitbart’s Big Peace:

How far will Sharia advance in the U.S., with Americans afraid to stop its advance for fear of offending Muslims and stirring them up to violence? The Muslim Students Association is already pushing for halal cafeterias, segregated dorms, segregated gym facilities on campus. This is incompatible with American freedom. We have to draw the line.

I will tell you this: Islamic law (Sharia) cannot, must not, and will not have its way over our free speech. That is worth fighting for, worth dying for.

Whispering evil

In Mel Gibson’s “the Passion of the Christ” we see Satan, the original Deceiver and Anarchist, lurking in the background from time to time, most notably, during Jesus’ scourging.
The imagery serves to remind us that though we never actually see him, or rarely feel his direct presence Satan is always lurking in the background, lying, tempting, nudging, prompting, and thrilled when evil takes hold of human souls.

Where was he if not behind the ugly crowd that called for Jesus to be executed in the place of Barabbas; whispering “punish the good – reward the evil”?

Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them. But they shouted, saying, “crucify Him, Crucify Him!”

Then he said to the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.”

But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices the He be crucified.

Luke 23:20-23

I’ve always wondered at the utter irrationality of this condemning crowd. Only a week before, many of these same people were praising and worshiping Jesus as He entered Jerusalem. And now, they’d rather have a murderer released into their midst than let an innocent man go free. How to explain this sudden shift from good to evil – from love to hate?

Even if you don’t believe any of this Christian “nonsense” doesn’t it seem conceivable that there may be otherworldly forces at work? Sub-currents, that erode rationality and turn average human beings into barbarians?

Which brings me to the angry mobs of the 21st century. What exactly is fueling the mindless hatred, rage and violence that we see here, here, here, here and here? Whose voice is telling them that profanity, rioting, destruction and even murder is an appropriate reaction to anything?

It is most definitely not the Voice of Truth.

Vade retro me, Satana!

“Feelings, whoa – whoa – whoa – whoa, feelings…”

Good article at Townhall by Mike Adams: Do You Feel Like We Do.
As America gives ground to post-modern relativism what seems to matter most is not the Truth, or the facts, but how you “feel.” And the stronger your feelings apparently the more legitimate your position. Hence the righteous indignation of the angry left.

The video below is a great example of what Adams is describing. Even though the students being interviewed agree that redistributing their GPA’s, to students with less ability, resources or motivation wouldn’t be right, they “feel” that redistributing wealth is OK. It’s as if the part of their brains that enables critical thinking has simply shriveled and died from lack of use. Amazing that these people are actually in college – an institute of higher learning?! But all they’re being taught is what to feel, not how to think. (What’s really frightening is that they seem so confident in their ignorance.)

As Adams sums up:

It’s really easy to sit around and talk about your feelings. It means never having to defend an idea on its own objective merits. It means our nation can continue to feel smarter while its collective mind continues to atrophy.

Our $$ for Barbarians?!

Debby Schlussel’s not really my cup of tea but I’ve never found her to be wrong on the facts, especially when it comes to radical Islam. And the facts of this story out of Libya are absolutely sickening. Recent videos show anti-Gaddafi rebels – that the U.S. is supporting with money and resources – murdering opposition forces in cold blood and celebrating the deaths like a bunch of maniacs.

Schlussel links to a video that –

…shows a crowd of rebels on the streets of Benghazi cheering and beheading a Libyan soldier who surrendered to them, then mutilating his body. They are all filming it on their cellphones as they celebrate. It is so disgusting and outrageous, so Nazi-esque. So despicable beyond belief. In the video, while they are doing this, they are chanting, “allahu akbar,” “Libya free!” and “For the blood of the martyrs.” And you can hear them making the “lalalalalalalalalalala” sound, which is a cheer.

Debbie’s graphic descriptions of this barbarism are enough for me. I took her advice and passed on actually watching the inhumanity –

This despicable sickening video (which probably will soon be yanked from YouTube, but don’t watch unless you have the toughest of stomachs and minds–you will have nightmares forever) is what we are backing.

Pajamas Media has further information: Mounting Evidence of Rebel Atrocities in Libya

And isn’t it wonderful that the CIA has been providing covert assistance to elements of the Transitional National Council (TNC), the political arm of the Libyan rebels. Just today the Obama administration notified Congress that they’re sending 24 million more to the rebels. But don’t worry, the State Department assures us that the money is only going to be used for “nonlethal assistance” and that:

“the TNC has publicly rejected terrorism, embraced the Geneva Conventions, and emphasized its dedication to building democratic institutions to provide for a secular future in which a broad range of Libyan citizens will be able to participate.”

Right.

Prevarication

The One opens his mouth and whatever falls out is just pure sophistry.

“Livin in a world of make-believe”, Obama is simply incapable of plain speaking. But since a significant portion of the electorate are incapable of separating fact from fiction it doesn’t really matter; the One has spoken.
Of course his solution to the cash flow problem is to increase taxes. But he’s betting that most people won’t stop to think that through… and they won’t.
