Goals? Requirements? Constitutional authority? Obama? Nah.

Why do leftist organizations always seem more focused on advancing their radical agendas than on actually helping whatever demographic they claim to care about? According to PETA Kills Animals:
PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2010, which the animal rights group itself filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that PETA employees killed 94 percent of the dogs and cats in their care last year. During all of 2010, PETA found adoptive homes for just 44 pets…
…PETA has a $33 million annual budget. But instead of investing in the lives of the thousands of flesh-and-blood creatures in its care, the group spends millions on media campaigns telling Americans that eating meat, drinking milk, fishing, hunting, wearing leather shoes, and benefiting from medical research performed on lab rats are all “unethical.”
So does the “E” in P.E.T.A. stands for “Ethical” – or “Evil”? Well, sometimes they slip and actually “let the cat out of the bag” so to speak:

“Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation.” — Ingrid Newkirk, national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), Just Like Us? Toward a Nation of Animal Rights” (symposium), Harper’s, August 1988, p. 50.
Not all “Humane Societies” are totally honest in their endeavors either. In Canada, the Vancouver Humane Society likes to engage in attention-getting stunts – while the Calgary Humane Society actually works to improve animal welfare: City of Animals Wants Animals Treated Like People
And visit HumaneWatch.org for the latest updates on The Humane Society of the United States. If you love animals you’ll probably want to avoid the national version of this organization. Much less than half of their annual budget actually goes to help fund hands-on pet shelters; HSUS spends more on its pensions than on pet-shelter grants.
This site has a 50-State report (available for downloading) that shows which local humane societies are actually using most of their funds to run shelters. They also have links to organizations that are trustworthy and which sincerely try to find good homes for the animals in their care.
Why is the state of Michigan in such an economic mess? Democrats’ destructive policies, union-mentality, auto industry-killing government-imposed emission standards – and Jennifer Granholm. Thankfully, Granholm has left the building (I believe she’s in California, no doubt helping to accelerate that state’s demise). But she was governor of Michigan for eight years, more than enough time to do significant socialist damage.
One of her legacies was the promotion of (useless) green technology business. And now that she’s gone, Michigan taxpayers are left holding the bill: State Taxpayers May Eat $1.6 Million Loan for Defunct Green Bus Company
(story from Michigan Capitol Confidential)
In 2009 Granholm touted Fisher Coachworks, an electric bus manufacturer in Flint, as one of the promising new green technologies that would be part of Michigan’s future. Fisher, which got a hefty loan from Michigan taxpayers, is now bankrupt. Looks like “Green” may not be so promising after all:
James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, said some green energy companies wouldn’t make it without government aid.
“Granholm opened the floodgates for any green business to get state money,” Hohman said. “This is her legacy. I think it is an important piece of the legacy that the businesses you are picking to win and whose business plans you support with state tax money wind up being big losers. That says some of these green energy business plans are likely to be facades held up with state support.”
In the aftermath of the violence in Vancouver last week this new site just popped up: Letters from the Front Lines: Vancouver Riot.
This blog hopes to present a different perspective on the Vancouver 2011 Stanley Cup Riot. Here, we’ll try to post letters of those that were working on the front lines: police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, transit staff, volunteers, and many more.
Reading through the various posts is a great reminder of how things work it the real world; responsible adult-types always have to deal with the mess after the irresponsible childlike-types throw one of their tantrums. This letter from an E.R. nurse is a perfect illustration, listing all the collateral damage inflicted by the thoughtless, out-of-control mobsters (may be a tad harsh 😕 but it certainly makes the point).:
An E.R. nurse’s thoughts on an instigator’s “apology”
Tim,Just because you can string an apologetic sentence together does not mean you are sorry. Perhaps I should make you aware of the consequences of your action. To you, it’s just an overturned car that you set on fire. To me, it’s walking into an overflowing ER and helping treat a girl with a severe asthma attack because she was exposed to the noxious, acrid smoke of a burning vehicle. To her, it was just a chance to be a part of a group cheering for her team. Little did she know that later on, we were thinking of sticking a breathing tube down her throat if her condition did not improve.
To you (yes, I am lumping you with all the d****hebag rioters in the ER that night), it’s a chance to congregate in the ER waiting room, pounding on the triage window demanding to be seen for teargas exposure and cuts from looting and fighting, while posturing and bragging about how you kicked the crap out of somebody and smashed sh** up. To me, it’s taking my time away from the little old quiet lady having chest pain or taking time away from the person you “sh**-kicked” for trying to stop the looting.
To you, it’s just a fight. To me, it’s the ER social worker looking for a teddybear to console a 4 year old girl because she just witnessed her dad get a broken nose as he was trying to get his daughter out of the hotzone.
To you, it’s writing a letter saying “you will do whatever it takes to help clean the city.” To me, it’s walking home after a long shift and seeing all these people at 7:30 in the morning armed with garbage bags cleaning up YOUR mess and realizing that these people have more class in their pinky finger than you could ever muster in your whole life.
To me, it’s getting home to shower, only to have my elderly neighbour knock on my door and ask me if he should make an appointment to this doctor because he was experiencing shortness of breath which later turned to chest pain in the morning. He did not think about leaving his window open as he went to bed at 9 o’clock. The smoke from all the burning cars made it to our building, into his room and triggered his asthma, which then raised his heart rate, which then became a small heart attack. I asked him why he didn’t go to the ER, and he answered, “I turned on the tv this morning and saw the rioting, I did not want to be a burden.” To you, it’s just an overturned car that you set on fire.
Why am I blaming you for all this? Because you are the instigator. You ask people to leave your family, friends and co-workers alone?! I think they need to know how much of a colossal d***he you are. Remember that your parents worked themselves to the bone so they can move to this country and give you your god-given right to flip cars over and set them on fire. You, Tim Kwong, are a d****htard. Apology not accepted.
— from a E.R. nurse
Check out the site – lot’s of encouraging posts by Canadians who really care about their city.
Kudos to all those honorable Vancouverans maning the front lines!
My Dad was a guy’s guy. He loved God, America, cars, boats, snowmobiles, RVing, John Wayne, horses – and his family (sometimes the order varied). He could fix anything; half of the pictures we have of him only show half of him – his legs sticking out from underneath a car. Dad didn’t believe in “sparing the rod” because he understood that even his little darlings were born with original sin. And he knew that self-respect was more important that self-esteem.
A natural leader, Dad became president of various organizations without really trying; his high school class, church councils, the local mounted division. Someone was always saying “George’ll do it” – and he did. Without whining, complaining or navel-gazing. Like so many others of the Greatest Generation he just “got it done”.
We lost him too soon – he was only 53. But we have all the memories, and the example he set: enjoy life, always be honest, hard working and do your best. Thanks Dad. I love you.

Here’s a Father’s Day Prayer:
And an article from the Heritage Foundation’s Foundry about the importance of fathers, family and marriage (Yeah – they matter):
Child poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware that its principal cause is the absence of married fathers in the home. Marriage remains America’s strongest anti-poverty weapon, yet it continues to decline. As husbands disappear from the home, poverty and welfare dependence will increase, and children and parents will suffer as a result.
Not all dads are perfect (who is?!) but most of them do the best job they can, love us to pieces and would do anything for us. So give em a big hug, a “THANKS!” and love em right back. 🙂

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Islamists Slaughter Christians in Nigeria, Obama Looks the Other Way ~ I meant to include this with my last post. Christian Aid Mission reports that more than 2000 Christians were killed in targeted Nigerian violence last year – more than in any other country in the world. (But don’t bother B.H.O. – he’s golfing.)
Wife of China Activist Against Forced Abortions Details Torture ~ “Chinese police torture a poor, blind lawyer to cover up evidence of the government’s abuses against women. This is unacceptable from a country that claims to follow the rule of law. The international community, including the Obama administration, should call China to account.” (Don’t bother B.H.O. – he’s golfing.)

Cut-Cap-Balance Pledge ~ 49 states have balanced- budget requirements – it’s time the federal government did too! Sign the Pledge – and ask Congress to do the same.
Vancouver Riots 2011 – Tribute ~ Post-riot video. Hope and healing.

The Left loves to display “Coexist” bumper stickers and tout Multiculturalism as a panacea for all the world’s woes, but the “Religion of Peace” doesn’t seem to be buying into that philosophy – at least not in northern Nigeria lately. From Voice of the Martyrs:
Anti-Christian violence has increased in northern Nigeria since January of this year, when 200 armed Fulani youths attacked churches and Christian homes. Sectarian violence between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria began in 2001 with a large-scale riot in the city of Kaduna.
Recent incidents of persecution, detailed at Compass Direct News, include:
• Christian Communities near Town in Nigeria Disappearing
• Pastor, Church Official Shot Dead in Nigeria ~
Boko Haram leaders have openly declared that they want to establish an Islamic theocratic state in Nigeria, and they reject democratic institutions, which they associate with Christianity. Their bombings and suspected involvement in April’s post-election violence in Nigeria were aimed at stifling democracy, which they see as a system of government built on the foundation of Christian scripture.
• Muslim Extremists Burn Church Building, Homes in Nigeria ~
Attacks on Christians in the town go back to 2001, when the only Christian to ever become a council chairperson, identified only as Nimfel, was murdered following an outbreak of violence between Muslims and Christians in Plateau State, central Nigeria. ~ Danyok said he believes that God has allowed such attacks on Christians in the town for a purpose that will glorify Him.
• Nigerian Pastor’s Wife, Children among Christians Killed in Attack ~
“Whatever is the situation, I will never forsake Christ,” he said. “All human beings are created by God, and our attackers must know that they need to abandon anything that will lead them to destroy creations of God.”
• Nigerian Church Leaders Call for Probe into Election Violence ~ Northern Nigeria climbed to 23rd place in 2010 from 27th in 2009 on Christian support organization Open Doors’ World Watch List of nations with the worst persecution.
“Persecution of Christians in northern Nigeria originates from the non-equality between Muslims and non-Muslims based upon certain interpretations of the holy scriptures of Islam,” the organization said in its rankings, released in January. “In the history of the region, the Hausa-Fulani Muslims of north Nigeria applied this notion of non-equality to all non-Muslims they conquered in their 19-century jihad.”
Reading through these accounts, I’m just amazed at the strength of faith these people have in the face of such hardships.
Please pray:
• For comfort for Christians bereaved or made homeless through violence
• Thank God that the church is becoming more united as a result of opposition
• For wisdom and courage for church leaders reaching out to their Muslim neighbors and caring for converts.
Vancouver loses the NHL finals to the Boston Bruins and the Canucks “fans” riot (National Post has lots more photos):

But this wasn’t really about a hockey tournament.

Charles Colson has gained unique insight into the realities of human nature through his decades of working with prison inmates. (He founded “Prison Fellowship” in 1976.) He’s been a firsthand observer of our constant battle between good and evil, a front row witness to man’s sin…and God’s redemption:
In any society, only two forces hold the sinful nature in check: the restraint of conscience or the restraint of the sword. The less that citizens have of the former, the more the state must employ the latter…
…The only alternative to increased state control is a return to biblical realism about the human potential for evil, a bracing willingness to look evil in the eye and not flinch. Sociologists are constantly searching for the roots causes of crime and other dysfunctions in society. But the root cause has not changed since the temptation in the Garden. It is sin.
Charles Colson – “How Shall We Live?”
…And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ~ Matthew 6:13 ~
Anytime that political power is centralized there will always be a susceptibility to kickbacks and favoritism. And history shows us that Washington D.C. is certainly no exception to that phenomenon. But cronyism is now rampant in the federal government as the Obama administration continues to breach the public trust with total aplomb.
From OneNewsNow:
An independent watchdog group has found that nearly 200 of President Barack Obama’s top fundraisers have won political appointments to government posts, obtained federal contracts for their business interests or been invited to exclusive White House events.
The Center for Public Integrity reported Wednesday that Obama supporters who raised $50,000 during his 2008 presidential campaign have been tapped for ambassadorships, government jobs or unpaid advisory positions. The report also said that at least 19 fundraisers are connected to businesses that could benefit from government spending programs.
Check out the full report from The Center for Public Integrity. (“Public Integrity” – hasn’t that become an oxymoron?)
The article (by Fred Schulte, John Aloysius Farrell and Jeremy Borden) reminds us of “Mr. Transparent’s” campaign promises:
In kicking off his presidential run on Feb. 10, 2007, he blasted “the cynics, the lobbyists, the special interests,” who he said had “turned our government into a game only they can afford to play.”
“They write the checks and you get stuck with the bill, they get the access while you get to write a letter, they think they own this government, but we’re here today to take it back,” he said.
So in case we weren’t sure before, it’s clear that we now have a government – of the crooks, by the cronies, for the chumps.

“Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust must be men of unexceptionable characters.” –Samuel Adams
Anyone over the age of 35 already knows the answer to this question; Ronald Reagan’s fiscal policies resulted in the longest peacetime economic expansion in U.S. history. Peter Ferrara at Forbes elaborates nicely with facts and figures.
In a nutshell, here’s what we should be doing:
• Cut tax rates
• Reduce spending
• Stop printing money
• Deregulate

Not too sure I’m ready to stand with Romney yet – “Rommneycare”, global-warming (huh?!), out-of-touch pandering…
But gotta give him his due, this is an awesome campaign ad!
