Al’s Hot Air “ICE’d”

Well! Al Gore was in a snit last week.
Here he is ranting, as Doug Powers @ Michelle Malkin reports:

“They pay pseudo-scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!” Gore exclaimed.

“When you go and talk to any audience about climate, you hear them washing back at you the same crap over and over and over again,” he continued. “There’s no longer a shared reality on an issue like climate even though the very existence of our civilization is threatened. People have no idea! … It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the goddamn word climate. It is not acceptable. They have polluted it to the point where we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it.”

I’ll overlook the language Al, but “shared reality”? Could it be the real reality is that people are no longer buying your phoney-baloney climate change scam?

Maybe this bit of news in the Chicago Tribune is what set him off? ICE to shutter Chicago Climate Exchange.
Intercontinental Exchange Inc., a carbon trading exchange, was poised to make big bucks if and when the Feds pushed through their insidious cap & trade legislation. And in addition to Gore’s involvement with ICE, none other that the “Annointed One” was up to his neck in the plot as well. Canada Free Press has the scoop on the poop.. The same Chicago Climate Exchange promoting public rip-off was funded by Obama before he was POTUS.

Anyone shocked? Me either.

Courageous Hearts

Sunday August 7th was the 224th anniversary of the Purple Heart. George Washington created this award in 1782 to honor “not only instances of unusual gallantry but also of extraordinary fidelity and essential service in any way…”
It seems to me that the troops we lost last Friday in Afghanistan embodied these characteristics.

While entitled cowards in the free world take to the airwaves and streets demanding to be isolated from the economic woes facing their countries, while the Left seeks to erase every trace of Christianity from our public square, while we sit mesmerized by American Idol and other mind-numbing distractions, these brave men gear-up and head into danger with steadfast resolve. Courageously willing to face the evil that we at home can comfortably ignore, but which they know is real because they have seen firsthand. They do not falter.

Sultan Knish has a wonderful piece: The Warrior’s Tale which reverently explains the true worth of these honorable men and their sense of duty. Without them, civilization will decline and turn to tyranny – or barbarism.

Thank you Lord for sending us warriors like this. Bless their sacrifice and their families.

History does not record why Washington chose the color purple for the award but traditionally it’s been considered the color of royalty. His love and regard for the troops was legendary – and mutual. In Washington’s view the common soldier who sacrificed for his country was as deserving of respect as any monarch. He is indeed.

Special Forces Creed

I am an American Special Forces Soldier!

I will do all that my nation requires of me.
I am a volunteer, knowing well the hazards of my profession.

I serve with the memory of those who have gone before me.
I pledge to uphold the honor and integrity of their legacy
in all that I am – in all that I do.

I am a warrior.
I will teach and fight whenever and wherever my nation requires.
I will strive always to excel in every art and artifice of war.

I know that I will be called upon to perform tasks in isolation,
far from familiar faces and voices.
With the help and guidance of my faith,
I will conquer my fears and succeed.

I will keep my mind and body clean, alert and strong.
I will maintain my arms and equipment in
an immaculate state befitting a Special Forces Soldier,
for this is my debt to those who depend upon me.

I will not fail those with whom I serve.
I will not bring shame upon myself or Special Forces.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I will never surrender though I am the last.
If I am taken, I pray that I have the strength
to defy my enemy.

I am a member of my Nation’s chosen soldiery,
I serve quietly, not seeking recognition or accolades.
My goal is to succeed in my mission – and live to succeed again.

Arrrgh!!

Computer woes yesterday…Sure is a pain being your own “Geek Squad”! I think I’m gonna need a new keyboard – but otherwise I’m back in business.

Once again Advanced Uninstaller saved my butt! This is a great utility program that I’ve used for years. It does much more than just clean/complete uninstalls:

It can repair broken registry entries, clean non-functional Start Menu shortcuts, uninstall annoying browser toolbars, plugins and hijackers, remove fonts and get rid of startup programs that run in your system tray and slow down your computer.

I really can’t recommend this program highly enough. 🙂

Time to face the facts: REALITY trumps Leftist name calling

“Bitter”, “Clingers”, “Astroturf”, “Crazies”, “Racists”, “Hostage Takers”, “Hobbits”, “Terrorists”, “Extortionists”…. whatever.

The Right is Right. The Tea Party’s call for fiscal responsibility has been the only voice of sanity in American politics for the last couple of years.
As Janet Daley affirms in her UK Telegraph article: If we are to survive the looming catastrophe, we need to face the truth ~

The Tea Party faction within the Republican party was demanding that, before any further steps were taken, there must be a debate about where all this was going. They had seen the future toward which they were being pushed, and it didn’t work. They were convinced that the entitlement culture and benefits programmes which the Democrats were determined to preserve and extend with tax rises could only lead to the diminution of that robust economic freedom that had created the American historical miracle.

Thank-you!

We have arrived at the endgame of what was an untenable doctrine: to pay for the kind of entitlements that populations have been led to expect by their politicians, the wealth-creating sector has to be taxed to a degree that makes it almost impossible for it to create the wealth that is needed to pay for the entitlements that populations have been led to expect, etc, etc…

The hardest obstacle to overcome will be the idea that anyone who challenges the prevailing consensus of the past 50 years is irrational and irresponsible. That is what is being said about the Tea Partiers. In fact, what is irrational and irresponsible is the assumption that we can go on as we are.

First class Spartan

Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins delivered an inspiring speech at the annual Big Ten luncheon in Chicago on August 3rd: Privilege leads to Responsibility.
Classy, inspiring and well worth a listen!

Greg Johnson of the Grand Rapids Press reported@ MLive.com:

Cousins, a senior from Holland, was asked by the Big Ten to speak on behalf of all the players Friday. He gave a polished well-written speech of just a little over seven minutes on the subject of the privilege of being a college football player in the Big Ten, and the greater responsibilities he believes comes with it.

And no teleprompter!

Saturday Shorts 8-6-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

The War on Lemonade ~ Government saving us from little kids and their lemonade stands. Beware those conniving grade-school entrepreneurs.

Schooling Matt Damon (Michelle Malkin) ~ Another “Shut-up and Sing” moment. But Damon just can’t help it – the magic of La-La-Land automatically turns a celebrity into an expert on any given subject. He probably missed this story last month: America’s biggest teacher and principal cheating scandal unfolds in Atlanta.

Video: They’re still not listening to Rick Santelli ~ A microcosm of everything that’s been wrong with American economic policy over the last couple of years. How badly does the economy have to tank before the Left gets it?

Logan’s Warning Exclusive~ NY Muslims Boast of Peter King Beat Down! ~ Were you hoping we’d get some real truth about Muslim radicalization in America from the Congressional hearings Rep. King was holding? Me too. No such luck.

More God, Less Crime ~ What a concept! “If only considering costs and benefits from a purely economic perspective, we can no longer afford not to take seriously faith-based approaches to crime reduction.”

The Perils of BIG-GOVERNMENT-CENTRAL-PLANNING Made Simple

A short video from our friends at Heritage clearly illustrating the problems associated with federal control over our public schools – although it can be applied to Washington’s interference with every other aspect of our lives as well!:

All of us should remember that the Federal Government is not some mysterious institution comprised of buildings, files, and paper. The people are the government. What we create we ought to be able to control. ~ Ronald Reagan ~

Why Lefties should only get 3/5 of a vote

Whoopi Goldberg during one of her tirades against the “racist” conservatives, sometime in the last year or two, said something along the lines of “Yeah, the Founding Fathers were so great they thought blacks were only worth 3/5 of a person!” I remember thinking how disappointing it was that Whoopi, who seems thoughtful and intelligent most of the time (except when she’s ranting) didn’t know the real story behind the “Three-Fifths Compromise”. But I’ve realized that this is one of those moments in history that’s been so scrubbed of the truth by the revisionists that the real facts are barely decipherable.

Case in point, here’s an opinion piece by John Moore (must be Michael’s brother) at National Post (Canada) deriding the Tea Party:

Not all Tea Partiers are crazy, but all the crazies seem to be in the Tea Party… 🙄
…This largely Christianist (sic) movement has extended its Biblical literalism to the American Constitution, a document its adherents regard as perfect. Even when it comes to the passage ranking a black man as having three fifths the value of a white man, they argue it was actually an ingenuous poison pill designed by the founding fathers to bring about the timely end of slavery.

Thank you genius. Let’s check the facts shall we?

• Unfortunately, as we all know, at the time the Constitution was drafted slavery existed in the southern American states, where slaves were considered property.

• Outrageously, the southern delegates to the Constitutional Convention proposed that each slave be counted when it came to apportioning congressional districts, effectively giving the south more representation (even though slaves weren’t even considered citizens, let alone given the right to vote); yet not be counted as property for taxation purposes.

• Heated debate ensued with some delegates threatening to leave the convention. But clearly, the southern delegates couldn’t have it both ways.

• James Madison came up with what has come to be called the “Three-Fifths Compromise”. It was agreed that five slaves be counted as three persons for both representation and tax purposes.

During the debates attempts were made by several Convention delegates to end the slave trade. The Founding Fathers were not, as the Left frequently implies, a bunch of racist slave owners.

Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration, speaking at a convention of Abolition Societies several years after the Constitution was ratified, represented a position held by many of the Founders:

“Slavery is repugnant to the principles of Christianity…It is a practical denial of the extent and efficacy of the death of a common Savior. It is a usurpation of the prerogative of the Great Sovereign of the universe, who has solemnly claimed an exclusive property in the souls of men.”

[Gee – bet Mr. Moore didn’t have a clue that Abolition was a “largely Christianist movement”!]

By taking history of out of context, ignoring half the facts and twisting the rest, the Left builds their entire world view on a warped foundation.

So here’s my proposal – until they can exhibit a clear knowledge and firm understanding of American history, I say that we should only count 3/5 of each Leftie vote. Perhaps we can prevent them from doing any further damage to the Constitution and the Republic.

Even better, once they do understand and appreciate the uniqueness of America they won’t be Lefties anymore!

One With Them

Open Doors has just launched a campaign called “One With Them” to encourage solidarity with Christians worldwide who are victims of persecution. Incredibly, this is an issue that many Christians here in America aren’t even aware of.

This new initiative –

… all leads up to November 13, 2011, the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, when literally millions will cry out together before God to deliver strength and courage to His saints.

But now indeed there are many members,
yet one body. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:20 ~
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;
or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
~ 1 Corinthians 12:20 ~

I strongly encourage you to visit the Open Doors website to learn more about this important issue and to get a free “barbed wire” bracelet to wear as a show of support and to raise awareness.

Dupes Hit with Dose of Reality

On his show today Rush was relating how the big media types are stunned that the D.C debt deal failed to help the U.S. credit rating – well duh! Here’s a transcript of the segment: Simpletons Shocked to See Debt Deal Had No Impact on Anything

They actually expected it to work?

“There was no reduction in debt, there was no reduction in spending, they didn’t do anything on taxes one way or the other, and everybody knows that tax increases are coming with Obamacare. Wolf (Blitzer-CNN), there’s nothing to celebrate here. There was absolutely nothing to celebrate. People with skin in the game, people with money in the game (i.e., people in Wall Street) know full well what an absolute, total joke this whole thing was. But you’re sitting there and the rest of you guys in the media are sitting there following indoor template, following your narrative, whoever starts it. It’s embarrassing; the single-mindedness, the narrow-mindedness, the simpletonian aspects of the way these people think. So Wolf is shocked, stunned, can’t believe it, because Wolf is not able to think for himself.”

And of course the “drive-by media” never doubles-back to figure out where their brilliant analyses went wrong – never learns anything from their mis-calculations and ill-informed predictions. It’s just full steam ahead to manufacture another pseudo crisis. And unfortunately for the future of America, they drag so many of the easily-duped masses along with them.

Time for some blueberries

OK – enough with the depressing fiscal disaster for a bit – take a break and eat some blueberries! August is peak blueberry time, at least here in Michigan. Here are some upcoming festivals:

National Blueberry Festival – South Haven ~ Aug.11-14
Montrose Blueberry Festival ~ Aug.18-21
Paradise Annual Wild Blueberry Festival ~ Aug.19-21

In addition to being yummy, blueberries pack a nutritional punch. They offer twice as many health-giving antioxidants as spinach, more than three times as many as oranges, red grapes and cherries and more than four times as many as grapefruit, white grapes, bananas and apples. So enjoy!

Here’s our favorite pancake recipe – which we’ve been known to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. 🙂

Sour Cream Blueberry Pancakes
• 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
• 2 eggs
• ½ cup milk
• 1 cup dairy sour cream
• 1 cup fresh blueberries – or frozen blueberries, thawed and drained

Beat baking mix, eggs, milk and sour cream with hand beater until smooth. Stir in blueberries. For each pancake, pour scant ¼ cup batter onto hot griddle (greased if necessary)*. Cook until pancakes are dry around the edges. Turn; cook other sides until golden brown.
Yield: about 1 dozen

*I just use my good old electric non-stick skillet

A Voice of Truth in the Swamp of Sophistry

Lest we forget, we do have a couple champions for sanity among the poltroons on Capitol Hill. Senator Rand Paul (KY) is one of them. Here’s an open letter from Sen. Paul (8-1-11):

~~~~~
To paraphrase Senator Jim DeMint: When you’re speeding toward the edge of a cliff, you don’t set the cruise control. You stop the car. The current deal to raise the debt ceiling doesn’t stop us from going over the fiscal cliff. At best, it slows us from going over it at 80 mph to going over it at 60 mph.
This plan never balances. The President called for a “balanced approach.” But the American people are calling for a balanced budget.
This deal does nothing to fix the overreaches of both parties over the past few years: Obamacare, TARP, trillion-dollar wars, runaway entitlement spending. They are all cemented into place with this deal, and their legacy will be trillions of dollars in new debt.
The deal that is pending before us now:
• Adds at least $7 trillion to our debt over the next 10 years. The deal purports to “cut” $2.1 trillion, but the “cut” is from a baseline that adds $10 trillion to the debt. This deal, even if all targets are met and the Super Committee wields its mandate – results in a BEST case scenario of still adding more than $7 trillion more in debt over the next 10 years. That is sickening.
• Never, ever balances.
• The Super Committee’s mandate is to add $7 trillion in new debt. Let’s be clear: $2.1 trillion in reductions off a nearly $10 trillion,10-year debt is still more than $7 trillion in debt. The Super Committee limits the constitutional check of the filibuster by expediting passage of bills with a simple majority. The Super Committee is not precluded from any issue, therefore the filibuster could be rendered moot. In addition, the plan harms the possible passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment. Since the goal is never to balance, having the BBA as a “trigger” ensures that the committee will simply report its $1.2 trillion deficit reduction plan and never move to a BBA vote.
• It cuts too slowly. Even if you believe cutting $2.1 trillion out of $10 trillion is a good compromise, surely we can start cutting quickly, say $200 billion-$300 billion per year, right? Wrong. This plan so badly backloads the alleged savings that the cuts are simply meaningless. Why do we believe that the goal of $2.5 trillion over 10 years (that’s an average of $250 billion per year) will EVER be met if the first two years cuts are $20 billion and $50 billion. There is simply no path in this bill even to the meager savings they are alleging will take place.
Buried in the details of this bill is the automatic debt limit increase proposed a few weeks ago. The second installment of the debt ceiling increase is initiated by the President automatically and can only be stopped by a two-thirds vote of Congress. This shifts the Constitutional check on borrowing from Congress to the President and makes it easier to raise the debt ceiling. Despite claims to the contrary, none of the triggers in this bill include withholding the second limit increase.
Credit rating agencies have clearly stated the type of so-called cuts envisioned in this plan will result in our AAA bond rating being downgraded. Ironically then, the only way to avoid our debt being downgraded and the resulting economic problems that stem from that is for this bill to fail.
This plan does not solve our problem. Not even close. I cannot abide the destruction of our economy, therefore I vigorously oppose this deal and I urge my colleagues and the American people to do the same.
Sincerely,
Rand Paul, M.D.
United States Senator
~~~~~

Other principled, rational Republicans who voted against this farce include: Sen. Rubio (FL), Sen. DeMint (SC), Sen. Toomy (PA), Sen. Sessions (AL), Rep. Bachmann (MN), Rep. McClintock (CA), Rep. Walsh (IL), Rep. Amash (MI), Rep. Paul (TX) and all the House members in South Carolina.
Let them know we appreciate their stand for fiscal sanity.
