Saturday Shorts 9-10-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Egyptian protesters pull down Israel embassy wall ~ Hey! What happened to that whole Arab Spring peace-love-democracy thing? Guess these guys didn’t get the memo! Can’t we all just sit down and sing Kumbaya? More pix HERE.

Unionized Longshoreman Revolt: Guards Held Hostage, Reports of Strike (Thursday in Wash.St.) ~ Speaking of angry mobs… I guess maybe hese thugs were inspired by Jimmy Hoffa Jr.’s speech in Detroit on Monday. And speaking of Hoffa…

After Jimmy Hoffa Calls for War on Tea Party Movement, Barack Obama Forgets What He Said in Tucson ~ Bob McCarty @ Big Government: If this doesn’t seal the deal, what’s it gonna take? Vote wisely in 2012, folks!

Lessons in Liberty for NC Schools

What happened in America before 1877? Apparently not much, according to public school officials in North Carolina.

Last year these officials came up with a new curriculum plan that failed to include much of United States history prior to 1877. Apparently they’ve determined that there’s no need for students to learn much about the people, events and philosophies that shaped our nation.

Right out of the Progressive playbook – destroying the future by ignoring the past.

Fortunately common sense prevailed. As reported in the Carolina Journal Online, the North Carolina Legislature was able to rein in the Department of Public Instruction. Governor Beverly Perdue signed The Founding Principles Act into law on June 23rd.

“The survival of the republic requires that our nation’s children, the future guardians of its heritage and participants in its governance, have a clear understanding of the Founding Philosophy and the Founding Principles of government for a free people,” according to the act’s preamble. The new law goes on to note that students will find the philosophy and principles “in the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and the writings of the Founders.”

High school students will now be required to pass “American History I – The Founding Principles”. What a concept!
Instruction will focus on 10 specific principles:

• Creator-endowed inalienable rights of the people
• the structure of government
• separation of powers with checks and balances
• frequent and free elections in a representative government
• rule of law
• equal justice under the law; private property rights
• federalism; due process
• individual rights as set forth in the Bill of Rights
• individual responsibility

While the new legislation may not be perfect (See article for commentary), it’s a darn good start. At least North Carolina public school kids will learn that America wasn’t founded in 1877 by Progressives.

Raising Little Patriots ~ from Heritage’s Foundry Blog

If your children’s school is a little weak on the history of our country’s founding, or the kids could just use a refresher course, they’d probably benefit from reading Amelia Hamilton’s: “One Nation Under God ~ A Book for Little Patriots”. It’s aimed at younger children but I think all generations would enjoy it.

Maybe North Carolina all public schools could incorporate this book into their elementary curriculum. It’s only $8.99 – and I bet they could get a bulk order rate.

Face the Music Mr. President!

Hooray for Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) who’s taking a stand for private enterprise and liberty tonight! She’s bringing along a guest to the President’s address to Congress: Gibson Guitar’s CEO Henry Juszkiewicz.

In the news quite a bit lately, Gibson Guitar, a Nashville, TN company, is just the latest victim of Obama’s Department of Injustice: Gibson Guitar Corp. Responds to Federal Raid

In their war on the private sector and American prosperity, one of the Fed’s weapons-of-choice these days is the Lacey Act. This legislation, passed in 1900, was originally designed to stop trade in illegal wild game (mainly elephants/ ivory). But over time it was amended to cover many natural resources, eventually including wood. So far, so good. But it also includes an obscure provision which makes it a federal crime to violate the fish and wildlife regulations of any other nation on the planet. The Lacy Act is the club they’re using to bludgeon Gibson with.

And why not – it was really effective when they used it on Abbie Schoenwetter, a Florida seafood importer/distributor. This poor man lost his business, his health and his family (not to mention years of his life in prison!) before the federal thugs were through with him.
Heritage Foundation has a video on Schoenwetter’s story – and he’s not the only victim of this persecution by a long shot.

So you gotta love Rep. Blackburn’s “in-your-face” move. Here’s the statement she released yesterday:

“Gibson Guitar is at the heart of this jobs debate, and is an example of exactly why President Obama has it wrong when it comes to getting our economy back on track. Maybe if the President spent more time finding real solutions to empowering small business owners and less time hindering businesses like Gibson, we’d see more new jobs being created.

“Small businesses under the leadership of executives like Henry are the key to getting our nation’s economic engine running again. While the President is busy delivering speeches, small business leaders like Henry are busy trying to deliver results. The best thing President Obama could do is seek their advice, then get out of the way. Big government doesn’t create jobs, small businesses like Gibson Guitar do.”

Sure looks like they’ve got a lot of spunk in the “Volunteer State”!

Have to give credit where it’s due: Speaker of the House Boehner is also hosting several business owners tonight – (including White Castle 🙂 COO Lisa Ingram) Michelle Malkin has the full list – the people who really create jobs!

Hey – this could make Obama’s address worth watching!

Stupid, Ignorant or Simply Malevolent?

On the eve of the 10th anniversary of 9-11 Chuck Norris reminds us at Townhall.com that the Obama administration is still willfully negligent when it comes to terrorism: Feds Still Enable Terrorists 10 Years After 9/11

Does anyone have a logical explanation for this kinder, gentler, head-in-the-sand approach to the War on Terror Overseas Contingency Operation?
Absurd behavior always makes me ask “why?” It drives me crazy. How do you account for utter irrationality?

When it comes to the administration’s approach to the world-wide terrorism threat, I see only three possible answers:

They’re stupid. Much as I’d like to believe this is the case, it really can’t be. Political cartoons aside, in all honesty one can’t navigate the muddy political waters of Washington D.C. and get elected or appointed to office without being cunning, ruthless and devious. “Stupid” wouldn’t get it done.

They’re ignorant. Well, unless HSH has information they’re not sharing with us, there is absolutely no evidence to indicate that conservatives, veterans, the Tea Party or any other “right-wing nut-jobs” represent a security risk. But maybe they just don’t have all the facts? Although, even though a brief glance around the world reveals that the vast majority of terrorism is carried out by radical representatives of the religion-that-must-not-be-named and…

U.S. officials apprehended 663 illegal immigrants last year with suspected ties to terrorist groups.

… in the past two years, there have been 126 terror-related arrests(in the U.S.), and all have been Muslims.

So “ignorant” really won’t work either.

Which leaves only option three;

They’re malevolent.
Malevolent : having or exhibiting ill will; having an evil influence.

If, having credible information regarding a potentially life threatening situation to another human being, you fail to act to help protect or even warn them about that threat, you’re at the very least a coward. If however the number of people at risk is multiplied by some 300 million, say an entire nation that you are directly responsible for, whose lives you have sworn to protect – you abdicate your responsibility; your deliberate action or inaction fails to reduce the risk – that’s way beyond cowardly, it’s malevolent.

They’re maybe not completely evil. Maybe not even mostly evil. Perhaps there’s just enough “ill will” in them to knowingly endanger innocent Americans. The kind of “ill will” that says; “We’ll just look the other way here… or twist the facts there… throw in a couple little lies…because it’ll further our agenda, our careers or our power… even though we know perfectly well that American lives are at risk.”
Unfortunately malevolence frequently morphs into pure evil – like say, Lenin’s;
“If you want to make an omelet, you have to be willing to break a few eggs”. Or kill a few million of you own people.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Against any degree of evil, our only salvation and strength comes from God. And aren’t we still “One Nation Under God”?
Well apparently not. It seems the ruling class doesn’t want us to even consider that option anymore. As Norris reports;
…New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided that a ground zero commemoration for the victims of 9/11 on the attack’s 10th anniversary will be held without prayer. Neither clergy nor first responders have been invited to the event, because Bloomberg apparently thinks politicians will be sufficient to comfort the still-grieving families and nation.
We need to stand up to evil. And for that we need God.
Please consider signing the Family Resource Council’s petition to Bloomberg to reverse his decision and recognize that prayer is needed more than misguided, malevolent politics.
Ghost Stories for the Gullible
A good read ~ Skookum at Flopping Aces presents: “Noises in the Night” – a tale of Chief Napoleon, the creepy “greenies”, and their scary stories…
Polls report that half of us are concerned about anthropogenic global warming. Those believers have been fed vivid and frightening stories with facts that rival Chief Napoleon’s stories. Chief specialized in taking a few facts and blowing them out of proportion until a grown man was as scared as a child. Chief’s story-telling entertained those of us who liked a good story and scared the Hell out of the gullible.
BOO!
Inciting the Workers to “War”
Wow – what a stark contrast to the Tea Party Express rally I attended on Saturday (as described in my last post)! Instead of upbeat, civil speakers and friendly patriotic attendees who love America, liberty and the Constitution – here we have Jimmy Hoffa Jr. in Detroit earlier today, as a warm-up act for President Obama. What a perfect example of the Left’s angry rhetoric:
“We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner. It’s going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We’re going to win that war…
…President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bit***s out and give America back to an America where we belong”
(Shhh… you can almost hear Satan applauding;
“That’s it boys! Whip em up into a feeding frenzy!”)
What a class act.
Hoffa, and Obama, represent the union/entitlement mentality that’s essentially responsible for the downfall of Detroit. And more of the same class warfare “community organizing” is hardly going to improve things.
To illustrate, here’s another stark contrast. A section of Detroit in 1949:
And the same area 50 years later:
Detroit’s already a war zone! And now Hoffa’s enlisting another army?
Leftist progressive policies killed Detroit; Democrats have been running the city (into the ground) since the mid-60’s. If Hoffa, Obama and their ilk were truly compassionate, actually cared about helping people, they’d stop feeding them the same old lies:
“Down with the Man!” – it’s his fault – never yours
“Workers of the World Unite!” – and destroy the free market (and the economy!)
You can’t possibly be expected to take care of yourselves – so “Big Daddy Government is here to help!”
Sadly, if the unfortunate residents of Detroit keep swallowing this same destructive, hate-filled, socialist propaganda, there’s absolutely no “hope” for the city.
Oh – and who are the real angry, violent racists again?
Tea Party Express Rally – Milford, MI
Even though it was Labor Day weekend and the weather was extra hot and humid, hundreds turned out for the Tea Party Express stop in Milford, MI yesterday.
Speakers included Sharon Angle 🙂 and several challengers to Debbie Stabenow’s (D-MI) senate seat including, Pete Hoekstra, Clark Durant and Peter Konetchy.
So far I like Durant ~ “Less taxes, less spending, less government and more FREEDOM.” Retiring Sen. Stabenow in 2012 has to be one of our key missions.
This guy had the right idea:
And a lot of creativity too!
We didn’t see any sign of radicals, hate or racism… just a bunch of concerned patriots trying to save America from the Left’s progressive destruction.
I mean seriously, does this crowd look menacing? 🙄
No wonder the msm never shows up at our rallies – they might have to report the truth.
Entertainment was provided by Lloyd Marcus, Polatik, Jim Labriola (from Home Improvement) and Ron & Kay Rivoli – who ended the rally with a wonderful military tribute.
Great job folks!
Zombie’s Tax Plan
Fair Tax? Flat Tax? How about Zombie Tax?
In a recent post – Vountary tax rates and personalized earmarks: How to solve the debate over taxesZombie offers up his straight-forward proposal to revise the federal tax plan. Pick your own personal tax rate, from 0 to 100% (- here’s your chance to step up Mr. Buffett!), and select which programs those dollars should fund.
Will it lead to a complete restructuring of the United States government? Possibly. And if it does, will that be a good thing? Most definitely.
He’s even helpfully designed a revised 1040 form:
Simple, fair, freedom of choice – I like it!
Saturday Shorts – 9-3-11
Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Cross-Country Flag Parade To Honor & Remember 9/11 ~ Indiana resident Karen Hall will be leading a caravan of patriots across the country with the flags of each of America’s 50 states sailing out their windows in remembrance of 9/11. Pretty cool idea!
Hall’s facebook page: 9-11 10th Anniversary Flag Promenade
Black farmers in South Africa cash in by selling land given to them by the government… back to whites who originally owned the farms ~ Government redistribution of wealth – a bad idea wherever it’s tried.
Obama administration added $9.5 billion in new regulations last month ~ This article is actually from August, so “last month” is July, but I just ran across it this week. Isn’t it amazing the lengths to which this administration will go to further cripple our economy?
61-year-old Vietnam vet makes the cut as a small-college kicker ~ “Alan Moore will be the oldest player ever to take the field for a four-year university.”
Life lesson: never give up on your dreams!
Liberals’ View of Darwin Unable to Evolve ~ Sometimes I’m not quite sure what to make of Ann Coulter – I mean, what’s up with the GOProud thing? But in this post she does a good job of exposing the major holes in Darwin’s outdated “theory”.
10 Ways to Celebrate Constitution Day ~ Constitution Day is September 17th.
Colossal Corruption
Good post at Canada Free Press: Prepare to defend America – Declaration of Independence II. Kickbacks, redistribution without our consent, buying votes, cover-ups…the entrenched political class and their willing media hacks have turned into power-hungry tyrants. We the People have had it!
The American people must now send an unambiguous message to the political establishment that the status quo, their usurpation of power and their selective application of the law will not be tolerated and we will take back our government.
The political-media complex, that is, the Republican and Democratic Parties, their financial backers and their cheerleaders in the main stream media are desperately trying to maintain their grip on the levers of political and financial power.
They have made themselves tyrants and have declared war on us.
The political-media complex contemptuously believes that it can conceal the Constitutional crisis with an organized campaign of disinformation and by blocking any legal avenues that citizens want to pursue.
We are experiencing, in real-time, the destruction of the Constitution and a flagrant disregard for the rule of law by Congress, the courts and government bureaucrats, who are deliberately hiding the truth about Obama from the American people to maintain their lucrative administrative dictatorship.
