Miley & the Malcontents

Poor pathetic Miley Cyrus. For all her millions (around $120 or so), guess she wants OWS to know she can relate. She just released a new video: “Miley Cyrus Rock Mafia – IT’S A LIBERTY WALK!” – celebrating the protests.

Sayin’ goodbye to the people who tied you up
It’s a liberty walk, walk
Feelin’ your heart again
Breathin’ new oxygen
It’s a liberty walk, walk
Free yourself, slam the door, not a prisoner anymore!

😯

“Liberty?” Only if “liberty” is now defined as self-centered, self-indulgent, exhibitionist, amoral, irresponsible lawlessness. Then the little tramp would fit right in with the rest of the misguided mob.
Billy Ray must be mighty proud of his darling daughter – “Lady Liberty” – or “Lady Libertine?”

How about “Little Girl Lost?”

It’s just regrettable that, with all the truly worthy causes Cyrus could have chosen to throw her considerable celebrity status behind, she picked the pointless parasites of OWS.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
To be fair, some of the Occupiers are able to see through the hypocrisy of a spoiled Hollywood millionaire cashing in on the movement, and aren’t amused. See Michelle Malkin’s post: Miley Cyrus, Occupier Poster Girl.
Jamestown – Uncovering the Truth
President Obama’s recent faux-pas, referring to the British Embassy in Iran as the “English” Embassy, is indicative of ignorance – not necessarily a lack of intelligence. He simply isn’t grounded in the principles of Western Civilization, and never really learned the truth about our country’s founding and subsequent history. Somehow, unlike most 3rd graders, he doesn’t know there are 50 United States – not 57. Or realize that navy corpsmen aren’t “corpsemen.” (Funny how he never misspeaks when the topic is Islam, or the “Holy Koran.”)
Perhaps Mr. Obama could start with a basic American history lesson – the facts behind our first settlement – Jamestown. Here’s a helpful video, discussing the latest findings of the ongoing archaeological dig at the original site…
The video is from CBN News ~
Archaeologists at Jamestown say they’ve discovered the original 1608 church building that was built at James Fort – a place that serves as powerful evidence of America’s Christian heritage.
It is the church where the legendary Pocahontas, the daughter of Chief Powhatan, was married. She is best known for saving the life of Captain John Smith, who helped establish Jamestown in 1607.
President Obama probably watched the Disney film “Pocahontas” which would have only reinforced his twisted worldview. The movie portrayed the Europeans as evil, greedy, exploiters, bent on wiping out the innocent, peace-loving Indians. Other than the names of the main characters, the producers got most of the story wrong, as Charlotte Cushman explains in the American Thinker:
First of all, the English settlers came to America in search of freedom, not because they wanted to kill Indians and steal their gold. Freedom was so important to the settlers that they endured many hardships and suffering such as fire, drought, Indian attacks, disease, starvation and death which wiped out half the colony. (The movie doesn’t even acknowledge this.)
The Indians, on the other hand, were, for the most part, uncivilized and roamed the countryside warring with each other and other tribes. They tortured and murdered prisoners with ceremonial dancing and feasts, scalped strangers, and annually sacrificed 2-3 children chosen by witch doctors. They were doing this before white men ever appeared on the shore.
Read the whole article: “The Unknown Story of Pocahontas.” The real story is a lot more interesting than Disney’s propaganda – and no talking animals!
In thanksgiving for their safe journey to the New World,
the first “structure” the Jamestown settlers erected was a cross.
(Good thing the ACLU wasn’t around!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jamestown is a great place to visit – along with nearby Yorktown and of course, Williamsburg. It’s wonderful to see where America began – over 400 years ago – and to walk in the footsteps of some of the founding fathers.

But I suggest you bone up on your facts before you go. That way you can help educate the Jamestown guides. Most of them seem to have fallen for the phony Disney version of the Pocahontas story.

A Bimbo Too Far…?

I think I can speak for most conservatives when I say that we’ve always lived by Martin Luther King’s admonition to “judge a man by the content of his character.” So skin color isn’t an issue with us. But multiple bimbo eruptions are a bit of a problem…

The first couple “allegers” accusing Herman Cain of sexual harassment merely seemed to be grabbing their 15 minutes of fame. (Curious that they didn’t they say anything until he became such a public figure.) But the latest story of a 13 year affair is going to be a lot more difficult to dismiss.

Her name – “Ginger White” – reminds me of an old cologne I used wear. The only “proof” she has are phone records. And her personal financial situation isn’t exactly peachy. But her story does sound a bit more plausible than the earlier ones. Where there’s smoke there’s not necessarily fire. But where there’s lots of smoke, well…

It’s sad, and I don’t really want to believe it, but could this commenter at The Blaze be on to something?
“I guess the Cain train pulled into to(sic) many stations before he decided to run for Prez.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update(11-30-11):
Brent Bozell at Townhall looks at Cain’s bimbo troubles in light of the main stream media malpractice:
But here’s what’s sick. Ginger White makes an adultery charge against Cain and she’s on NBC within hours. But when Juanita Broaddick accused Chelsea’s father of raping her in a 1999 Dateline NBC interview, then-anchor Tom Brokaw never allowed one second of her voice to break into the NBC Nightly News.
Well sure -and I hate to trot out that old standby but – if the Left didn’t have double-standards they wouldn’t have any standards at all.
Harriet Tubman – American Patriot
In my copy of the American Patriot’s Almanac, (Bennett & Cribb) today’s entry is about Harriet Tubman. Although her date of birth was never recorded (the year was probably 1822), I imagine the editors, wanting to make sure they included her story in the Almanac, chose November 29th because that was the time of year that Tubman was engaged in a mission to rescue nine slaves from Maryland, leading them to safety in Canada.
Today’s weather here in Michigan is best described as bleak; low 40′s, windy, rainy. And the thought of being outdoors for more than five minutes isn’t something I want to contemplate – brrrrr! So just imagine… traveling cross country for hundreds of miles, mostly at night, in the rain, and maybe the snow, with little food, only occasional shelter, risking discovery and arrest… All the while trying to keep up not only your own spirits, but encouraging those in your care. Harriet Tubman was one amazing woman!
Born into slavery on a Tidewater Maryland plantation, Harriet was courageous even as a girl. While barely in her teens, she deliberately blocked the path of an overseer chasing a fleeing slave, only to be hit in the head with a rock aimed at the runaway. The injury, leaving her with strange dreams, severe headaches, and periods of narcolepsy that plagued her for the rest of her life, only made her more determined to stand up to the injustice of slavery.
Growing up, Harriet learned woods lore from her father, Ben, who was the leader of a slave timber crew. The knowledge she absorbed, of plants, wildlife and path-finding, would serve her well in the years to come.
Harriet married John Tubman, a black who had never been a slave, in 1844. Cotton prices were falling at the time and with rumors on the plantation of the slaves being “sold South,” she began to think increasingly of running away to the North. But John, though free himself, not only said he wouldn’t join her if she fled, he threatened to betray her if she did.
One day in 1849, Harriet learned she had been “sold South.” Willing to risk her life, rather than spend it enslaved, that night she ran away. With the names of a couple Underground Railroad stops, supplied by white woman in nearby Buckland, she headed North – all alone, but relying on her faith in God:
“I said to the Lord, I’m going to hold steady on to you, and I know you’ll see me through.”
And He did. Harriet went on to rescue several members of her own family and eventually – as an invaluable conductor on the Underground Railroad herself – helped some 300 slaves make their way to freedom. Joining up with the Abolitionists in the North, her courage, determination, and moral conviction, truly inspired the cause of freedom.
A memorial plaque in Maryland carries this short tribute ~
The “Moses of her people,” Harriet Tubman of the Bucktown District
found freedom for herself and some three hundred other slaves
whom she led north. In the Civil War she served the
Union Army as a nurse, scout and spy.
~~~~~~~
Just an aside – because I can’t resist :mrgreen: ~ Do you recall Hillary Clinton channeling Harriet Tubman during the run-up to the ’08 election? HA! Although old “Shrillary” was pretty much delusional, the two actually did have one thing in common: weak-charactered, cheating spouses.

In 1851, risking a trip back home to convince her husband to join her, Harriet found that after she fled North – John had married another woman! After recovering from the shock of that betrayal she left, taking only his name, and continued what became her life’s mission… leading others to liberty.

Egyptian Election – From Hope to Hopeless?

Polling lines have been extremely long in Egypt today as that country holds its first parliamentary elections since Mubarak’s three-decade rule came to an abrupt end in February. Describing the event, and still pushing the phony “Arab Spring” narrative, the AP’s tone is rather cheery:

Some voters brought their children along, saying they wanted them to learn how to exercise their rights in a democracy as they cast ballots in what promises to be the fairest and cleanest election in Egypt in living memory.

“Fairest and cleanest?!” Not a chance – not considering the Muslim Brotherhood’s involvement ~

Creed of the Muslim Brotherhood:
Allah is our objective
The Prophet is our leader
Qur’an is our law
Jihad is our way
Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope

Many Egyptians truly want democracy for their country. Not a constitutional republic like ours necessarily, but at least a government that guarantees freedom of speech, press, assembly and religion. These voters are mainly what would otherwise be an collection of strange bedfellows: liberals, leftists, Christians(Copts) and pious Muslims who are opposed to Islamism. But they’re united in their preference for a secular Egypt, not a theocracy.

Determined to quell the hopes for a democratic government, the Muslim Brotherhood is going on the offensive: Muslim Brotherhood Conducting Illegal Campaigning in Egypt (Egypt Election Irregularities) Egypt Liveblog. As Pundit Press explains, the Brotherhood’s aggressive get-out-vote effort has not been hampered in the least by the fact that campaigning on the actual day of an election is illegal in Egypt;

… reports seem to show the Brotherhood organizing large turnout across the nine districts open for elections. The Brotherhood is the best organized party in Egypt– by far. They had been organized during the Sadat and Mubarak era and unfortunately this will help them at the polls…
…(and an activist reported that) each Muslim Brotherhood member was encouraged to bring 100 people to the polls.

Even more distressing for the anti-Islamists, according to the UK Telegraph; yesterday the military leadership and the Muslim Brotherhood joined forces to dismiss pro-democracy protesters as the tools of a foreign conspiracy to weaken the country. This pretty much clinches it for the fundamentalists. As the Telegraph explains;

The vote was supposed to be the most important in the country’s modern history, a moment of destiny in which Egyptians set behind them decades of strongman authoritarianism and embraced a new and unfamiliar era of democracy and tolerance.

Instead, they head to the polls in an atmosphere of profound crisis, their country deeply polarised, dangerously unstable and, at least in the view of those in Tahrir Square, on the verge of succumbing to the forces of autocracy and religious extremism.

For nine days, the activists behind the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in February have tried to recreate the spirit of revolution that emanated from Cairo’s famous landmark so tumultuously at the start of the year.

Initially, they seemed to succeed. After more than 40 deaths last week, the protesters forced the military council into promising to expedite the transition to civilian rule. But by Sunday, their ability to exert pressure on the generals appeared to have faded.

Which means that any hopes that the Coptic Christians had for relief from religious persecution have faded as well.

Michael Youssef, Ph.D – an Egyptian by birth, who immigrated to Australia while he was a university student and became U.S. citizen in 1984 – is uniquely positioned to understand what’s really happening to the minority Christian community in Egypt. And he takes President Obama to task for his role in the human tragedy that’s unfolding (Just one of the latest examples – on October 9th the Egyptian Army killed 27 protestors, 23 of them Christians.);

To describe what is really going on around the country as “barbaric” would be an understatement. While some of the protestors may be true democracy lovers, the widespread terrorism on display defies all human decency.
The truth about recent events in Egypt reveals that the country has disintegrated into a total anarchy and barbarianism that would make the Vikings blush.

Peaceful Christians are being beheaded in their own homes. Their possessions are being carried off as police either stand helplessly by or, for a portion of the booty, turn a blind eye. And surprise, surprise! Nearly all the victims of beheadings were Christians killed by Muslim fundamentalists.

So much for President Obama’s “Arab Spring.” When history books are written truthfully, they will reveal that the President’s speech in Cairo, one he insisted the Islamists attend, set this barbarism in motion. Another misstep by President Obama was his demand that his ambassador in Cairo negotiate with what, at the time, was an outlawed entity known as the “Muslim Brotherhood.” This gave the Islamist group a huge comfort level in their push to take over.

Dr. Youssef continues;

While I cannot enter into the man’s heart or know his motive, I do wonder how Mr. Obama can sleep at night knowing that his misguided foreign policy emboldened pro-Islamists and caused the deaths of thousands of innocent people…

…It is precisely the same kind of vacillation and accommodation on the part of Mr. Obama that has emboldened the Islamists around the world. As a result, we have seen jihadist-led bloodbaths from Yemen to Syria and from Libya to Egypt.

The only story most Americans will hear from the msm about today’s election will be the AP’s fictional version: “Oh look – Arab Spring leads to democracy-in-action in Egypt!”
The real truth can be found HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. God help the Copts.

OWS – Perfecting Self-Parody

Here are a couple images from the Zuccotti Zombie Zone, before the city moved in to clean the mess up earlier this month.

Honestly admitting they’re clueless…

Obviously…

Huh? 😯 [Rosanne Barr in disguise?]

And it looks like us “regular” Americans will no longer have to come up with creative ways to satirize the “movement”. This guy’s sign says it all – sure to become an iconic image of the OWS protests:

Seriously dude?? “Gimmee-gimmee-gimmee!”

Honest Abe could teach “Dishonest Obe” a thing or two

Did you miss President Obama’s annual Thanksgiving address? If so, it’s just as well. As several sites have mentioned, he pretty much ignored the whole point of the holiday. Oh, he said we should be thankful, but he never quite got around to using the “G” word. So exactly who is it that we’re supposed to thank?

Our current president seems to believe that our Thanksgiving traditions are rooted in a “sense of mutual responsibility” and “a celebration of community.” His message was peppered with the usual empty platitudes:

…we’re all in this together…
…All it takes is for each of us to do our part. ..And I’m thankful for the chance to do my part, as together, we make tomorrow better than today.

Blah, blah, blah…

Obama likes to encourage the misguided perception that he’s “Lincolnesque.” On the contrary, he is emblematic of the ungrateful attitude that President Lincoln was addressing in his March 1863 proclamation, appointing a national day of prayer and fasting:

And, insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment, inflicted upon us, for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

Amen.
Timeless, invaluable advice. As relevant today as it ever was 148 years ago.

Saturday Shorts 11-26-11

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Learn from Shakespeare, study tells doctors ~ Because the Bard apparently had quite a knack for recognizing the connections between various mental distresses and resultant psychosomatic illnesses.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. ~ Hamlet ~

America’s Disappearing Restaurant Chains ~ “24/7 Wall St.” lists 10 once-popular eateries including, Bennigan’s, Bakers Square, Big Boy… Big Boy? Say it ain’t so!
According to Technomic, a food industry research firm, “as many American consumers gravitate toward a more contemporary dining experience and more exciting menu options, traditional restaurant chains are losing relevance.”
Wrong conclusion boys. I’d say the trend is evidence of just how hard the recession has hit middle America. The elite’s may be gravitating “toward a more contemporary dining experience,” but the rest of us are eating at home.

Anti-Communist Polish Leader Lech Walesa Unveils Reagan Statue in Warsaw ~

The 3.5-meter (11.5-foot) bronze statue depicts a smiling Reagan in a historic moment — as he stood at a podium at Berlin’s Brandenburg gate in 1987 and said the famous words, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”

Unlike Americans, the Poles don’t yet take their freedom for granted.

It only creates equal misery for all.

Attention Shoppers: Spend Those CHRISTMAS Dollars Wisely

Once again that festive time of year, the generic holiday season is upon us, and retailers are making a frenzied bid for your bucks. It’s purely a survival tactic – the annual spend-fest accounts for at least 20% of their annual sales. But too many stores are more than happy to rake in your hard-earned cash… while pointedly ignoring the Reason for the Season. Somehow they just can’t bring themselves to mention the C-word.

Oh sure, they like to pretend they’re being “inclusive” – can’t forget all the “holidays.” Like, um…ah… well… actually, the only one that comes close to being an occasion for gift-giving is Hanukkah. But until a couple decades ago, when advertisers latched on to the money-making potential of a festival featuring eight days of gift giving, most Jews didn’t even get that excited about it.

Here’s the thing: Christians celebrate Christmas by giving gifts, in recognition of the greatest gift of all – Jesus Christ. And if hypocritical retailers don’t want to acknowledge that truth, why support them with your dollars?

Before you head to the mall or go online, you might want to check out the American Family Association’s (AFA) helpful list of the “Naughty & Nice” retailers – available HERE. There are lots of Christmas-friendly stores to patronize, including some of my faves; Amazon, Kohls, Meijers, Nordstrom, Office Max and JC Penney.
Here are the “Scrooges” so far this year – retailers that avoid or ban the use of the term “Christmas” in their advertising:

• Banana Republic
• Barnes & Noble
• Foot Locker
• Gap Stores
• L.L. Bean
• Limited Brands
• Office Depot
• Old Navy
• Radio Shack
• Staples
• Supervalu
• Victoria’s Secret

[L.L. Bean?? Say it ain’t so! Having spent a considerable “holiday” sum with them over the years, I’m afraid I’ll have to take my Christmas 2011 funds elsewhere.]

AFA updates their list when warranted. Just this week Walgreens was moved from “naughty” to “nice” after many calls, emails, etc. from AFA-inspired customers.
~~~~~~~~~~
So know where you’re spending your money. Avoid the retailers that delete “Christ” from Christmas. If a store chooses to ignore Christmas, I plan to ignore them.
Wishing you HAPPY HOLIDAYS! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
The Demographic Disaster Behind the Failing Economy
“No one wanted to have any children. No one wanted to get married.”
Sound familiar? That was the social reality in the Roman Empire shortly before it fell, as stated in this trailer for the documentary: “Demographic Winter.”
As European economies teeter, and the ruling class scrambles to prevent collapse, not many are addressing the root cause of the fiscal crisis: the failure of self-centered, short-sighted populations to marry and reproduce. Very simply, there are too many old people, and not enough young people. Elementary mathematics my dear Watson; unsustainable.
Somehow western societies have reached the self-absorbed conclusion that individuals are entitled to a worry-free life from cradle-to-grave, without obligating themselves to any other human beings along the way. And once they’re out of the cradle, they rather than recycling it for the next generation, they toss it on the rubbish pile.
Unless western civilization can somehow reverse the decline of the human family, we’ll soon be joining the Romans on the rubbish pile of history.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark Steyn, in his book “America Alone,” discusses the “aging” of the west, particularly Europe, and what it means for the future. Bear in mind, this was published in 2006 – he was more optimistic then. And five years later, we’re only a few steps behind Europe.
In chapter 1: “The Coming of Age,” Steyn defines demographics as a game of the last man standing.

“We are living in a rare moment: the self-extinction of civilization…”

Obama’s “Religion” of Opportunism

WARNING ~ to avoid spraying your monitor with coffee, soda or an adult beverage, it’s recommended that you swallow any liquids before proceeding…

Yesterday, on MSNBC’s not-too-successful Reverend Al show, Sharpton asked Obama, “How do you respond to their [Super Committee] announcing that they can’t reach a deal, and where do we go from here?”

Obama replied:

Look, there‘s no doubt that I’m disappointed that not just Congress generally, but the Republicans in particular, are not willing to put serious revenue on the table as part of a balanced plan . . . So the position they’re taking is short-sighted. Uh, but, uh, you know, I, uh, it, it, it must be my, uh, religious faith, reverend, cause, uh, hope springs eternal and I continue to believe that at some point common sense will prevail and we’ll be able to work something out.

Three years of arrogance, intimidation, deception and destruction – and the only time this charlatan pretends to have religious faith is when things aren’t going his way?!

[There – aren’t you glad your mouth was empty?]

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Duke’s No Fan of Wind

The Duke of Edinburgh has always seemed to me like a common sense, decent sort of chap. So I was heartened, though not surprised, to hear that he recently described wind farms as “absolutely useless, completely reliant on subsidies and an absolute disgrace.” Yep, that pretty much sums them up.

According to the UK Telegraph;

The Duke’s attack on the turbines, believed to be the first public insight into his views on the matter, came in a conversation with the managing director of a leading wind farm company.

When Esbjorn Wilmar, of Infinergy, which builds and operates turbines, introduced himself to the Duke at a reception in London, he found himself on the end of an outspoken attack on his industry…

…“He said, ‘You don’t believe in fairy tales do you?’” said Mr Wilmar. “He said that they would never work as they need back-up capacity.”

Correct. And when they’re shut down, due to high winds of all things, the taxpayers not only don’t have energy – they get to compensate the wind farms! As the UK Sun reported in October;

National Grid paid out almost £3 million to wind farm operators in compensation in mid-September when a dozen wind farms were shut for three nights in a row.

Prince Philip isn’t alone in voicing his sentiments about this fruitless venture: Ex-chancellor backs Philip over attack on wind farms which Duke described as ‘absolutely useless’ (source: africangrio) ~

This past Sunday, Lord Lawson, a former Tory Chancellor and leading climate change skeptic, said:

‘[The Duke] is spot on. He rightly feels strongly about the issue and equally clearly knows what he is talking about.

‘If you tried to devise the most costly and inefficient means of generating electricity imaginable, you would choose wind power – which is also an environmental monstrosity, desecrating ever more of our English landscape…”

Not to mention reducing local avian populations: Wind Power; Bane of Birds.

The Telegraph also reported that the Crown makes millions from leasing their lands to wind farms;

The seabed off Britain’s 7,700-mile coastline is almost entirely owned by the Crown Estate, the Queen’s £7billion land and property portfolio – which leases it to developers to build massive offshore turbines.

OK. But doesn’t that only serve to add more credibility to the Duke’s position?

Even the Met Office, the National Weather Service for the UK, is having a tough time making the case for wind, posting the following on their website last June:

Weather patterns, and crucially wind speeds, underpin the success for this type renewable energy. The severe gales experienced in Scotland last month coupled with the generally lower than average wind speeds experienced over the last year demonstrate the challenges of wind as a renewable energy resource.

Maybe it finally takes a Duke to declare that the Emperor has no clothes.

~~~~~~~~~
Alternative Energy Eden:
With apologies to Ogden Nash:
I think that I shall never see,
A wind turbine lovely as a tree;
Perhaps, unless the turbines fall,
I’ll never see a tree at all.
