Well some good news 🙂 ~ yesterday the Supreme Court actually reaffirmed America’s freedom of religion ~ from CBN News:
In a surprising unanimous decision from the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday, all nine justices ruled the government has no right to tell a religious organization what ministerial employees it can hire and fire.
Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC began here in Michigan at the Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School (Redord,MI). Cheryl Perich, an elementary teacher who also led chapel devotions, became ill and unable to work, so the school replaced her with a substitute. As the Wall Street Journal related;
In the middle of the school year she sought to return and then, instead of attempting to work out the dispute through the church’s reconciliation process, she threatened to sue.
As relations broke down, the church congregation voted to withdraw her “call” to the ministry, and she ceased to be eligible for her prior job. She sued under the Americans with Disabilities Act, with the support of the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Although federal statutes, which ban employment discrimination based on race, sex, age and disability, do not contain an express exception for church employees, for 40 years the lower courts have applied a “ministerial exception,” preventing the government from having a say in minister selection or retention.
Courts have reasoned that the separation between church and state protects the ability of churches to choose their own clergy just as it protects the state from any control by churches.
Before Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC, the Supreme Court had never spoken to the issue. World Magazine has a good recap of their decision:
“We are reluctant … to adopt a rigid formula for deciding when an employee qualifies as a minister,” Roberts wrote in the decision. Kagan and Alito, in their concurring opinion, wrote that the “title” of minister “is neither necessary nor sufficient,” given the variety of religions in the United States, but rather courts must defer to the religious organization’s evaluation of the employee’s role.
The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled in favor of the teacher, saying she did not qualify as a minister because she spent more minutes of the day teaching secular subjects than religious subjects. The Supreme Court scoffed at that idea. “The issue before us … is not one that can be resolved by a stopwatch,” Roberts wrote.
This little aside in the article was pretty amusing:
(Justice)Alito, perhaps dryly, added 1 Corinthians 6:1-7 in the notes of his concurring opinion, verses that tell believers not to go before “the ungodly for judgment.”
While the court’s decision is definitely good news for religious liberty, the pessimist in me wonders whether the followers of Allah might not use the case to advance Shariah law. After all, the 10 Circuit Court of Appeals just decided that the voter-approved Oklahoma law banning any implementation of Shariah law was unconstitutional ~ Shariah in America’s courts ~ Koranic law: Coming to a city near you
Although Holder’s Department of Injustice (& Assorted Atheists) felt that the church case was worthy of prosecution, this, apparently is not: Obama’s DOJ Refuses to Investigate #OccupyWallStreet’s Threat to Public Safety. Nope, no agenda here folks.

I happen to have several football fanatics in my life. At various times when they’re appealed to the Almighty for a victory for their team, I’ve felt the need to point out to them the God probably doesn’t care who wins. In light of Sunday’s Bronco game, I humbly submit, I could be wrong.
After all, God does work in mysterious ways: ‘John 3:16’ Most Googled Term after Tebow-Time Win. And if He’s using NFL football, and Tim Tebow, for a higher purpose should we be surprised?

• 316 ~ yards thrown in Sunday’s game
• 31.6 ~ average yards for each completion
• “John 3:16” ~ What Tebow used to write on his eye black before a college game
• John 3:16 ~ “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Who knows if the Broncos will go all the way (but God of course)? I believe that for the Lord’s purposes, the victory over the Steelers – and the amazing statistics – were miracles enough.
Here is another cogent, concise and convincing
example of the rightness of Conservatism.

“In the case of Leftists, if you point out that socialism doesn’t work any better in Wisconsin or Ohio than it did in the Soviet Union or does in Greece, they argue that it simply has never been done correctly. In the wake of such bloody failures as China, Nazi Germany, Cambodia, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea, only a certifiable lunatic would even consider defending socialism on such shaky ground. However, when it comes to unequivocal devotion to failed attempts at social engineering, those on the Left could give collies and cocker spaniels lessons in blind loyalty.
If I haven’t yet convinced you that those who inhabit the ranks of the Left are dangerously self-righteous and unbelievably stupid, consider that they not only elected Barney Frank to Congress, but then kept doing it 15 more times. Consider, too, that they hold the unholy likes of Jimmy Carter, Michael Moore and Michael Bloomberg, in high regard.
Finally, never forget that one of the intellectual heroines of the Left, Susan Sontag, once declared, ‘The white race is the cancer of human history,’ and, as usual, she was being deadly serious; and that Barack Obama, after once acknowledging that America was the greatest nation on the face of the earth — no doubt with his fingers crossed behind his back — went on to announce that, as president, he intended to radically transform it!”
~ columnist Burt Prelutsky ~
OK – maybe nothing will convince the Left that they inhabit a reality-free zone, but for the good of freedom, liberty and civilization – we can’t stop trying 🙂

Last week Barry Rubin at PJ Media reported that a prior article of his (“Egypt: As Grim Islamists March Toward Power, The Naïve Dance in Tahrir Square”) had been banned from the official government websites of, well… a European country whose capitol is soon to be renamed Londonistan. If you happen to work for the British government and try to access Rubin’s article, this message pops up:
Access denied — reason given : hate speech.
As Rubin rightly concludes from this episode; “free speech is now conditional on someone’s judgment of your viewpoint.” And, “all of the intimidation and censorship are in one direction.” Bingo!
To illustrate; this – of course – is not hate speech:

But substitute “Islam” for “Israel” and you’d be marked for death.
The video below presents invaluable information about the threat the west is facing. It’s vital that we have a clear understanding of the tactics being employed against us (- know thy enemy). Using historical examples, and the Koran’s own words, David Wood explains the three stages of Islamic Jihad.
Stage one is “Stealth Jihad;” preach peace and tolerance – and claim “victim” status. Stage two is fighting unbelievers who pose a physical or intellectual threat. And, uh-oh, criticizing Islam is considered an attack on Islam. So, in their warped worldview, when they blow up a bunch of innocent civilians, radical Muslims are merely counter-attacking their critics.
Watch the whole thing – it’s well worth the time.
“Three Stages of Jihad” is from Acts 17 Apologetics which has several similar videos posted on their YouTube site; critical information presented in an engaging format with a lightly satirical tone. Also check out their blog: Answering Muslims.
We should all be very grateful to people like Barry Rubin, Robert Spencer (of Jihad Watch), Geert Wilder, Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs), Brigitte Gabriel (ACT! for America) and organizations like Acts 17 Apologetics for having the courage to stand up and speak the truth about the “Religion of Peace” – while they still have that freedom.
Spread the word.

By now everyone on the net has heard about Halloweengate -the hush-hush, semi-creepy bash that the White House hosted on October 30, 2009 – the one we’re all just finding out about over two years later:
The Alice in Wonderland themed Halloween party was held in the State Dining room and was complete with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Tim Burton-arranged decorations.
Frankly, if the descriptions of the festivities are accurate, it wasn’t very becoming of the dignity of the office. But after Slick Willie’s antics I guess there’s not much dignity left anyway.
More disturbing was that the party was really a portent, intended or otherwise, of the direction the president planned to take the country – straight down the rabbit hole. To a world where left is right, up is down and reality takes a long-term vacation.
Case in point, last week’s phony good news on the unemployment front. The real unemployment rate is actually 11.4% – the 8.5% figure that the msm was gleefully reporting last week doesn’t include the labor force dropouts. As Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge illustrates, “the real unemployment rate would be using a realistic labor force participation rate.”
And the labor-participation figure is troubling. The percentage of eligible Americans participating in the labor force has slipped from 65.8%, when the recession started, to 64% and is trending downward. That represents over 4 million people who are no longer in the workforce. (Did they fall down a rabbit hole?)

John Ransom at Townhall reflects on the numerical illusion ~ Obama Unemployment Magic Trick: Indefinitely Detain 4 Million People from Workforce
For this administration, lying is a state of mind; supplying guns to drug traffickers is a noble act; killing healthcare is “saving” healthcare; ignoring entitlement reform is “preserving” entitlements; ignoring laws on immigration, recess appointments, detention of Americans, wiretaps, declarations of war, are all the constitutional prerogatives of the great constitutional law-giver and professor-in-chief, “Dr. Strangelove or; How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Obama.”
It would be hilarious, except it’s not a Hollywood movie. (Not even “Alice in Wonderland”)
Obama’s made it the truth.
Or whatever truth means now.
I think it means we’ve all fallen down the rabbit hole.
Almost 30 years ago, Ronald Reagan proclaimed 1983 the “Year of the Bible,” a designation initiated and authorized by Congress ~
Of the many influences that have shaped the United States of America into a distinctive Nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible.
Deep religious beliefs stemming from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible inspired many of the early settlers of our country, providing them with the strength, character, convictions, and faith necessary to withstand great hardship and danger in this new and rugged land. These shared beliefs helped forge a sense of common purpose among the widely dispersed colonies — a sense of community which laid the foundation for the spirit of nationhood that was to develop in later decades.
The Bible and its teachings helped form the basis for the Founding Fathers’ abiding belief in the inalienable rights of the individual, rights which they found implicit in the Bible’s teachings of the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. This same sense of man patterned the convictions of those who framed the English system of law inherited by our own Nation, as well as the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
For centuries the Bible’s emphasis on compassion and love for our neighbor has inspired institutional and governmental expressions of benevolent outreach such as private charity, the establishment of schools and hospitals, and the abolition of slavery.
Many of our greatest national leaders — among them Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson — have recognized the influence of the Bible on our country’s development. The plainspoken Andrew Jackson referred to the Bible as no less than “the rock on which our Republic rests.” Today our beloved America and, indeed, the world, is facing a decade of enormous challenge. As a people we may well be tested as we have seldom, if ever, been tested before. We will need resources of spirit even more than resources of technology, education, and armaments. There could be no more fitting moment than now to reflect with gratitude, humility, and urgency upon the wisdom revealed to us in the writing that Abraham Lincoln called “the best gift God has ever given to man . . . But for it we could not know right from wrong.”
The Congress of the United States, in recognition of the unique contribution of the Bible in shaping the history and character of this Nation, and so many of its citizens, has by Senate Joint Resolution 165 authorized and requested the President to designate the year 1983 as the “Year of the Bible.”
Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, in recognition of the contributions and influence of the Bible on our Republic and our people, do hereby proclaim 1983 the Year of the Bible in the United States. I encourage all citizens, each in his or her own way, to reexamine and rediscover its priceless and timeless message.
Reagan’s words are as true today as they were then, but just imagine the outrage from the Left if such a proclamation were attempted in 2012 (“Year of the Koran” would be more probable!). How has America managed to fall so far so fast?
Could it be because, thanks to the secular revisionist historians, anyone under 30 is ignorant of the Truth? And half of the rest of us who knew better have forgotten what “better” is?
Our founding fathers knew the Truth. In fact they couldn’t have bequeathed us our Constitutional Republic if they hadn’t been building on a biblical foundation. There isn’t another philosophy, religious or otherwise, in all of history, that claims “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” As Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas said in 1952:
We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being…
…(W)e find no constitutional requirement which makes it necessary for government to throw its weight against efforts to widen the effective scope of religious influence.
Several other pertinent quotes from the founders, other political figures, and from relevant documents, are listed in a recent post at The Constitution Club; Was America Ever a Christian Nation? The video below answers that question with a resounding “YES!”
Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va) was presenting the “Spiritual Heritage Resolution” before Congress on May 4th, 2009. Very sadly, for future of this country, the resolution died in committee.
If we can no longer see much evidence of God’s hand in America’s affairs today, let us remember it was “we the people” who abandoned Him first…
Yesterday, January 6th, was the Feast of the Epiphany – or Three Kings’ Day. Traditionally celebrated by the church on the first Sunday following the 6th, Epiphany is a celebration of the arrival of the Wise Men to worship the newborn Christ Child.
And, I may add, the reason our Christmas decorations are still up. 🙂
January 6th is also the day that is traditionally observed as the birth date of Joan of Arc. In fact, yesterday, the French celebrated her 600th birthday…

And how typical of the magic of Joan’s story that she should have been born on so important a Christian holiday, the Feast of the Epiphany, celebrating Christ’s baptism and the coming of the Magi. Just another wonder in the life of the transcendent young woman who heard the voices of angels and presented the dauphin of France with a secret sign that only he would know, a sign that convinced him of her authenticity as a messenger from God.
Source: Kansas City Star ~ Celebrating the real Joan of Arc
Except, no one is certain when the “Maid of Orleans” was actually born. The Star’s article points out that the coincidental date with Three Kings Day was probably chosen for purely political purposes;
Which is a shame because of all the stories in the world, Joan’s is one of the least in need of embellishment. She should not be remembered because she showed the dauphin some trinket, or was an illegitimate member of the French royal family, or revealed secrets that no one else knew (all of which are, like the Jan. 6 date, almost certainly mythological). What makes Joan an iconic figure, as inspirational today as she was six centuries ago, was her faith, her unswerving dedication to her cause and, above all, her astounding bravery. It was this bravery that was demonstrated at her very first battle when, as the wounded French soldiers, bloodied and disheartened, streamed back to the safety of the walls of Orleans, 17-year-old Joan rushed out into the crush of arrows and swords to give battle.
Mark Twain’s Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc is probably the least known of all his works. But it’s my favorite – actually one of my all-time favorite books, period – and it was also his personal favorite:
“I like Joan of Arc best of all my books; and it is the best; I know it perfectly well. And besides, it furnished me seven times the pleasure afforded me by any of the others; twelve years of preparation, and two years of writing. The others needed no preparation and got none.”
~ Mark Twain ~
Twain fictionalizes Joan’s story somewhat, but only to better tell the tale. The miracles of her life and accomplishments need no embroidering. It’s an excellent book and a wonderful story. One that inspires the reader to look beyond daily trivialities to higher things.

“Consider this unique and imposing distinction. Since the writing of human history began, Joan of Arc is the only person, of either sex, who has ever held supreme command of the military forces of a nation at the age of seventeen.” ~ Louis Kossuth ~

“President Obama’s flagrant violation of the Constitution not only will damage relations with Congress for years to come but will ultimately weaken the office of the presidency.” ~ Edwin Meese ~
As chief executive, the President of the United States is required by the Constitution to “see that the laws of Congress are administered and enforced.”
But not our present Dictator-in-Chief. Obama doesn’t think that part of the job description applies to him, so he simply opts to ignore some legislation entirely (like immigration and DOMA). And with other laws he apparently believes that he has the divine right to pick and choose which portions he’ll enforce. Unbelievably, he’s arrogant enough to announce his intentions even as he’s signing a bill into law.
From Reuters, via the Jerusalem Post:
In a statement issued as he signed a defense bill into law on Saturday, Obama said several provisions including the sanctions that target Iran’s central bank “would interfere with my constitutional authority to conduct foreign relations.”
The president, a Democrat, said in his statement that if any application of these provisions conflicted with his constitutional authorities, “I will treat the provisions as non-binding.”
This, despite the fact that the Senate unanimously approved the new sanctions before appending them to the defense bill. Obama just gave Congress the finger.
And now, with his “non-recess” recess appointment, he’s flipping off the rest of us as well.
Former Attorney General, Ed Meese, bluntly assesses the president’s latest power grab; Obama’s recess appointments are unconstitutional –
President Obama’s attempt to unilaterally appoint three people to seats on the National Labor Relations Board and Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (after the Senate blocked action on his nomination) is more than an unconstitutional attempt to circumvent the Senate’s advise-and-consent role. It is a breathtaking violation of the separation of powers and the duty of comity that the executive owes to Congress.
Meese concedes;
…some prior recess appointments have been politically unpopular, and a few have even raised legal questions.
However;
…never before has a president purported to make a “recess” appointment when the Senate is demonstrably not in recess. That is a constitutional abuse of a high order.
If Congress does not resist, the injury is not just to its branch but ultimately to the people. James Madison made clear that the separation of powers was not to protect government officials’ power for their sake but as a vital check on behalf of individual liberty. To prevent future tyrannical usurpations of power, Congress must act to redress this serious threat to our liberty.
Not surprisingly, the media has spun their usual web of deceit around this story. What should be a national outrage is being portrayed as D.C. business-as-usual. While they’re deviously brainwashing the peasants, will any of the poltroons on Capitol Hill have the backbone for this fight?
They damn well better. After taking oaths to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, any member of congress who doesn’t stand up to this blatant abuse of power should be booted from office.

Call it the Granholm (former Michigan governor) Legacy: under the guise of saving the environment, and magically creating jobs, Michigan’s state bureaucrats have managed to squander another big chunk of potential tax income.
As the Mackinaw Center reports, another alternative energy company – touted as a “success story” by the governor in her 2010 State-of-the State address – bites the dust: Mich. ‘Green Jobs’ Subsidy Winner Evicted from Saginaw Headquarters.
Seems that GlobalWatt, a solar module manufacturer, was the recipient of $42 million in state and local government financial favors (tax breaks, subsidies), primarily because they misrepresented a counter-offer from Corpus Christi, Texas to relocate from California. And now the company is facing eviction, in a matter of days, from their mostly empty Saginaw facility.
So much for the 500 jobs we were told to expect… Thanks Jenny!
MEGA (Michigan Economic Growth Authority), part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, was created in 1995 to facilitate job creation and retention in Michigan by offering business tax credits to select firms willing to expand in or relocate to the Great Lakes State. They also typically arrange for businesses offered MEGA tax credits to receive other tax breaks and subsidies. Unfortunately for the citizens of Michigan, the board’s screening process is not very thorough. As this Mackinaw Center video illustrates, it’s clear that MEGA has approved some highly questionable tax credit applicants:
