Never Shaken – Standing Firm in the Lord

Wanted to share today’s devotional from Open Doors which describes persecution we in the West can barely imagine. What an inspiration!

This is the kind of unwavering faith I pray for:

In December 1999, a Muslim mob attacked the Doulos Bible School on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia. One of the main aims of this Bible School is to evangelize among the 30-million-strong Sundanese, the largest unreached people group in the world, who live in west Java. One student died and forty-four other students were wounded. About eighty percent of the buildings were destroyed. Domingus is a young student who was injured. He shares his personal story of the events that fatal evening…

That night I was asleep in bed so I didn’t know what was happening. Suddenly a friend woke me up and shouted that we were being attacked. The building was already burning and I did not know where to run to. I knew if I ran to the main gate I would be killed. I ran to the back of the campus where my friend lived. I prayed “Lord, if I die, I know I will go to heaven.”

Suddenly the crowds arrived and they shouted to kill me. They grabbed me and blindfolded me. The Lord spoke to me “Don’t be afraid, I will be with you.” They hit me with a big stick and I lost consciousness. I felt my spirit leave my body. Through a sequence of events I was brought to a place where people were singing and worshipping God. I saw a very bright light and I closed my eyes and bowed down. A voice said “Your time has not come yet, it is time to go back!”

I regained consciousness and realized where I was. I tried to look at my watch but I discovered my neck was very badly cut. I saw all the blood. I prayed that the Lord would send someone to take me to hospital. I thanked the Lord that I could be persecuted for the gospel and that through this I could meet Him.

When the police arrived they asked, “Where did you find this corpse?” They took me to hospital. I tried to open my eyes and I still saw the angels around me. The doctors said I would be paralyzed but as you can see I am not.

Upon the conclusion of his testimony, Domingus was asked the obvious question, “What now? They will come back to finish the job and kill you. What do you want to do with your life, Domingus?” He replied with great conviction, “I just want to serve Jesus.”

Face it Folks, Facebook is Fizzling Fast

So did you get caught up in all the hype last week and rush out to load up on Facebook stock? Me either. Nor did a lot of other folks. Good to see there’s still some sanity left in the world.

For instance, there’s Larry Thornberry at the American Spectator, who pondered the pending IPO last Thursday:

This is absurd. And a disturbing symptom of cultural decay. Can a company whose main achievement has been to turn an entire nation into teenage girls (Would you be my friend, please? Can I see your pictures?), wasted billions of hours of what might have been productive time, and has otherwise produced absolutely nothing, possibly be worth $104 billion? That’s more than five times the value of all Major League Baseball teams combined.

Absurd it is. Facebook’s opening valuation was the largest ever for an American company – $104 billion for what? The increasingly unlikely potential that the massive social network will generate serious profits from ad revenue?

Michael Deacon at the UK Telegraph suggested that investors might realize a more profitable result by buying shares in his brilliant new venture: a unicorn sanctuary run by Santa.

Even the technophiles in Japan were skeptical:

Click on [X] to close distracting Ads by Google
[Video via Zero Hedge]

Then there’s the increasing amoral aspect to Facebook. The adolescent melodramas. How many marriages and real friendships have been ruined by the site’s addictive nature and impersonal interaction? How many cyber-bullying incidents have we heard about? Remember the tragic case of the Irish teen, Phoebe Prince, who committed suicide after being relentlessly harassed on Facebook?

And of course, Pedophiles love hanging out online trolling for their next victims. Maybe Facebook can ramp up its appeal to that demographic!

Art Ally of The Timothy Plan (financial/investment advisers) seriously recommends that Christians avoid Facebook like Sodom and Gomorrah:

“There is no way in the world I would ever recommend anybody invest in Facebook,” says Ally, “either on the IPO or on down the road, because this has become an electronic superhighway that is full of abuse, garbage, pedophiles, hackers — it goes on and on and on.”

[Source: OneNewsNow]

From a user standpoint I much prefer Twitter, as does Deacon:

I’ve simply grown tired of Facebook as a user. It’s slow. People hardly have anything to say on it – compared with Twitter, which incessantly breaks and circulates news, and inspires instant discussion of (and bad puns about) that news between friend and stranger alike…

…On Facebook, meanwhile, you’re stuck with just your friends. Friends who, increasingly often, don’t seem to be there. Facebook is beginning to feel like the world’s loneliest party…

…I used to check Facebook all the time. Now I barely look at it. Here’s a tip: 10 years from now, Greece will buy Facebook. It’ll cost 50 drachmas and a bottle of ouzo.

By yesterday’s close, Facebook shares were down more than 18 percent, ending the day at $31.
Pass the ouzo.

Italy: Tax Payers Revolting

As with most of the countries in Western Europe these days, Italy is running out of money to fund their burgeoning entitlement society. James Miller, of the Ludwig von Mises Institute of Canada reports; Tax collections are down while public expenditures have skyrocketed in a vain effort to stabilize the economy.

But the ever-growing appetite of the bloated beast of the state must be sated. So Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti is cracking down on tax evasion. With predictable results: Italy And The Great Tax Revolt. [Source: Zero Hedge]

Bloomberg Businessweek reports on the backlash:

Equitalia (is that Italian for “equal misery for all?”), the state tax-collection agency, has been targeted in a wave of attacks as Italians chafe under stepped-up efforts to recover an estimated 120 billion euros ($153 billion) in lost revenue from evasion. On May 12, a Molotov cocktail exploded outside Equitalia’s Livorno office, one day after a parcel bomb was delivered to the Rome headquarters, site of a December explosion that tore off part of the general manager’s hand.

“I have never seen such a tense atmosphere” said Ballico, who has been employed by Equitalia since 1998 and is now on temporary leave to work for the UGL labor union. “They call us loan sharks, bloodsuckers; my colleagues have to deal with anxiety and stomach aches every day and they are scared…”

…Earlier this month, a 54-year-old small businessman facing financial difficulties and tax debts of around 2,400 euros, took 15 hostages at an Equitalia office near Bergamo for several hours before surrendering to police…

…As part of the crackdown on tax evasion, authorities have targeted owners of luxury cars and boats to stop transgressions by the wealthiest Italians. Still, much of the anger directed at Equitalia is from people with more modest means as the agency is responsible for collecting everything from missed mortgage payments to parking tickets and delinquent school lunch fees. 😯

Italy’s tax burden, as a percentage of gross domestic product, will rise to 45.1 percent this year, up from 42.5 percent in 2011. Yikes!
James Miller’s article continues:

Like a drug addict, the state must be sustained by increasing amounts of revenue to satisfy its craving of paying off voters. It must continually buy legitimacy to hold up the veil which masks its thieving tendencies. As the tax fund dwindles, governments in the West are becoming desperate. Like the producers in Ayn Rand’s uncannily predictive novel Atlas Shrugged, many of the more productive members of society have grown tired of being soaked to pay for political handouts and unending wars of aggression…

…The only difference between a thief and the taxman is the thief recognizes his crime is wrong. The taxman not only feels entitled to the labor of others but routinely pilfers under the pretenses of serving its victims.

The “makers” have clearly had it with the “takers.” Don’t expect the situation in Italy, or elsewhere in Europe, to resolve itself peacefully any time soon.

Founding Wisdom [Flouted by the Foolish]

“A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.”

Will Zimmerman ever get justice?

Now that more and more facts about the death of Trayvon Martin are coming to light in the George Zimmerman trial it’s becoming clear that the racially-motivated lynch mob who were calling for his head may have jumped the gun a bit, so to speak.

This is from Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post: Could the mob have been wrong on Trayvon Martin? Rubin cites the opinion of prominent defense attorney Alan Dershowitz who concludes that under the “beyond the reasonable doubt” standard, Corey doesn’t have the grounds for a conviction. ~

The evidence now seems entirely inconsistent with a murder charge. “Now there is much more extensive medical evidence that would tend to support Zimmerman’s version of events. This version, if true, would establish self-defense even if Zimmerman had improperly followed, harassed and provoked Martin. . . . Thus, if Zimmerman verbally provoked Martin, but Martin then got on top of Zimmerman and banged his head into the ground, broke his nose, bloodied his eyes and persisted in attacking Zimmerman — and if Zimmerman couldn’t protect himself from further attack except by shooting Martin — he would have the right to do that [under Florida law].”

His continued prosecution looks more and more like mob justice, cheered on by hecklers in the media who didn’t much care to find out the facts before rallying the public to equate failure to charge Zimmerman with racism. Will they urge that “real” justice be done, that the rule of law be upheld if the evidence undermines their premature conclusions about a case in which they had a tiny portion of the facts on which to holler for Zimmerman’s prosecution?

Not a chance.

Additionally, contrary to the could-have-been-Obama’s-son choirboy image of Trayvon that was being foisted on the public, Martin was probably far from it.

In the meantime, it’s pretty clear that Zimmerman’s father was right – thanks to the ignorant, angry mob; “Our lives will never be the same.” From the Miami Herald:

Robert Zimmerman is a retired magistrate living like a fugitive.

He stays in hotels under assumed names. He pays cash so no one will look at his surname and make the connection: This is the father of one of the nation’s most controversial murder defendants.

“It’s been unimaginable,” he said Monday. “Our lives will never be the same.”

Rubin’s article concludes with this:

If Zimmerman’s actions turn out to have been legally defensible, where does he go for justice, and who exactly will demand (prosecutor) Corey be held accountable for jumping when the mob howled? Well, don’t expect the mob to do it. It has moved on. It always does.

Hope the mob is happy with the destruction they’ve wrought in the lives of the Zimmerman family. Just a sad tale of contemporary American society all around.

What’s Up With “W”?

Either George W. Bush has lost his cable connection on the ranch for the last year and a half – or he’s lost his marbles! Maybe Crawford, Texas is another Area 51. How else do we explain his recent detachment from reality?

Via Reuters, here’s Bush speaking at an event in Dallas on Tuesday about that deadly debacle now known as the “Arab Spring”:

Bush, who launched the 2003 invasion of Iraq that deposed Saddam Hussein, called the Arab Spring “the broadest challenge to authoritarian rule since the collapse of Soviet communism.”

“There are no guarantees, and there will certainly be setbacks,” he said in a speech in Washington. “But if America does not support the advance of democratic 😯 institutions and values, who will?”

Bush dismissed the arguments of those who saw inherent risks in democratic change in the Middle East and North Africa and felt the United States should be content “with supporting the flawed leaders they know in the name of stability.”

“It is not realistic to presume that so-called stability enhances our national security,” he said.

How is it that old George is blissfully unaware of the surge in anti-Semitism, and the increasing persecution of Christians in the Middle East? That the “Arab Spring” has become a nightmare for non-Muslims?

Does he think Egypt’s Muslim-Brotherhood is just a bunch of good old boys? He must have missed the Egyptian poll, released just the day before he made these naive remarks:

61 percent of Egyptian respondents favor abandoning the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, up from 54 percent a year ago.

The poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, also finds a small decline among Egyptians in favorable views of the United States – now just 19 percent – while 61 percent of respondents said the billions of dollars the U.S. gives their country in military and economic aid has a “mostly negative” impact.

Among other findings:

–Asked whether Egypt’s laws should strictly adhere to the Qur’an, 60 percent said yes while 32 percent said it should follow the values and principles of Islam and only six percent said laws should not be influenced by the teachings of the Qur’an.

— Seventy percent of respondents viewed the Muslim Brotherhood favorably, down from 75 percent in 2011. The Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, also received the highest support rating among political parties, 56 percent.

Does that sound like democracy?! I’m hearing definite strains of “authoritarian rule.”

The Egypt-Israel treaty, signed in 1979 (a result of the ’78 Camp David peace accords), has been primarily responsible for the relative peace between those two nations for decades. It’s been the model for U.S. mediation between Israel and its Arab neighbors. The fact that a majority of Egyptians want to ditch it could well be disastrous for the entire region.

What is it with these establishment Republicans? No matter how “severely conservative” they may claim to be, they just don’t get it.

Hey George: Please stick with the good stuff you’ve been doing – and don’t burden us with your misguided opinions on international events.

Mendacity of the Dope

Just up this afternoon at Breitbart:
The Vetting – Exclusive – Obama’s Literary Agent in 1991 Booklet: ‘Born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii’

From a booklet introducing the work of various authors, including one “Barack Obama.”
It features his anticipated first book, Journeys in Black and White
[which Obama abandoned, later publishing Dreams from My Father instead].
The 1991 promotional piece was produced by his then-literary agency, Acton & Dystel.

~~~~~~~~~~
OK. Which falsehood are we supposed to fall for now? The 20th century one – or the 21st century one. Or has Barack Obama merely “evolved” on the matter of his birthplace – exchanged one “truth” for another – for the sake of political expediency?
Regardless of what the MSM spin will be, I’ll bet most of us remember when Americans used to call this just plain lying.
And here’s another thought – maybe those wacky “Birthers” aren’t so crazy after all.
Rumors of the Tea Party’s death have been greatly exaggerated
The MainStreamMedia would have us believe that the Tea Party movement has become a non-factor in the political process; that it’s fizzled, fallen out of favor, retired in defeat. Lefties tend to be either oblivious or willfully blind. And because they live in a morally relativist world where everyone is free to embrace their own “truth,” they fail to grasp transcendent Truth.
From the moment theTea Party emerged, the Left saw only what their misguided worldview allowed them to see: a bunch of “racist-sexist-bigot-homophobes” from “fly-over country.” Rather than honestly address the message, they attacked the messenger – with a vengeance.
That’s their standard M.O. – but this time things didn’t quite play out they way they’d hoped. They forgot Sun Tzu’s corollary: ”know your enemy.” They never bothered to act like real journalists and find out what Tea Partiers believed in and what the movement was really all about:
• The Constitution, and the Republic it created
• One nation under God
• The rule of law
• Smaller government – much smaller
In short, America’s founding principles.
Much like the original Boston Tea Party, the 21st century version was a wake-up call – get the message out: “The county’s on the wrong track!” In the movement’s early days, millions across the country attended rallies, and realized… they weren’t alone! Energizing!
Since then, the Tea Party’s been focused on effectively spreading their message: organizing into hundreds of large and small groups, supporting local candidates, talking to friends and neighbors, communicating via email, blogs and social media.
And, psssst – don’t tell the MSM, but it’s working.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of the Lefts’ favorite targets for vilification has been Sarah Palin, the conservative they love to hate. But as they’ve done with the Tea Party, they underestimated Palin’s ability to not only withstand their attacks, but to come back even stronger.

The poor MSM must be apoplectic over recent election results – all their best efforts at indoctrination seem to have fallen short. The Tea Party is taking on the Left – and the Republican establishment. And winning. As this article at Breitbart plainly illustrates: The Palin Effect: Tea Party Flexes Muscle.

First was the good news in Indiana:

On May 8, six-term establishment Republican Senator Richard Lugar lost his primary in Indiana to Richard Mourdock, who had been backed by various Tea Party groups and organizations. Mourdock trounced Lugar, receiving 60 percent of the vote to Lugar’s 40.

Mourdock had strong backing from the grassroots, but it was Palin’s endorsement days before the primary that effectively administered the coup de grace to Lugar and the GOP establishment. Four hours after Palin’s endorsement, the establishment Republican group, American Action Network, which had pledged to spend nearly $600,000 for Lugar in the last days of the election, saw the writing on the wall and abruptly pulled out of Indiana.

Then yesterday, in Nebraska’s primary, state Senator Deb Fischer scored a huge upset victory over establishment Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning and state Treasurer Don Stenberg. Just endorsed by Palin on May 9th, Sen. Fischer zoomed from 3rd place in only a few days to win the nomination.

Next up is Ted Cruz in Texas. The state’s former Solicitor General is supported by many conservative politicians and organizations including FreedomWorks and Senators like Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Pat Toomey – as well as “The Great One:” Mark Levin! (Cruz was just on Levin’s show yesterday – May 15th. You can catch the replay HERE. This guy’s middle name should be “Tea Party!”)

But – as the Breitbart story continues – although Cruz had cut Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst’s lead in the polls in half over the course of the year;

Cruz still trailed him by 12 points in the most recent poll conducted.

Then, last Thursday, Palin endorsed Cruz and gave the campaign more statewide buzz and name identification. Cruz’s Campaign Manager John Drogin told Breitbart News that the difference in intensity before and after Palin’s endorsement is like the difference in the temperature of Venus and the Sun, respectively.

“Phones are ringing off the hook, volunteers are signing up, and social networks are buzzing,” Drogin said.

Based on the boost Mourdock and Fischer received immediately after Palin’s endorsement, Cruz will probably get a similar surge in his poll numbers as Texas begins its early voting period today leading up to the May 31st primary.

And even more good news – from Wisconsin; it’s definitely looking like Governor Scott Walker may survive the recall election next month. Especially with the Democratic National Committee cutting its funding: DNC Pulling Out of Wisconsin Recall.
~~~~~~~~~~
The Tea Party may have evolved, but our core principles haven’t. We’re still out here. Our numbers are growing, and we’re getting the message out. And now we’re seeing the Truth resonating with our fellow Americans at ballot boxes across the country. Awesome!
The MSM is still clueless. But let’s hope they stay that way until November 7th. Then maybe they can all move to Europe. 😀
Michigan Going Red… Not in a good way
A recently-released poll shows that President Obama’s lead over Mitt Romney is narrowing in Michigan. Obama won the state by almost 17 percentage points in ’08, but he’s currently polling just 5% ahead of Romney. Dare we hope that the state is actually waking up and going from “purple” (we do have a RINO governor) back to “red” again? The trend is certainly encouraging.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Red” on a political map is a good thing – for the state, and the whole country.
But “Red” in my backyard… not so much.

In fact it’s downright unsettling to learn about plans for a new “China City” right here in the Great Lakes State. From the Dayton Daily News:

A group of mainland Chinese known as Sino-Michigan Properties LLC paid $1.9 million for 200 acres of farmland on Milan city limits in purchases this year and in 2011, according to local officials and property records.

Milan is located on U.S. 23, ½ hour north of the Ohio border. It’s just a short drive from that bastion of progressive liberalism: Ann Arbor (home to the University of Michigan).

The investors intend to build a 415-unit housing complex complete with artificial lakes and up to 6,000-square-foot homes, as well as a cultural center [Oh boy! Is that anything like a Muslim “cultural center?]“, Michigan officials briefed on the project said.

As yet, the project hasn’t been formally reviewed by two townships that must approve it, and questions abound. [They certainly do!]

A presentation last month to the Milan City Council by the city administrator said the project “would be marketed to Chinese business people who want to start companies in the United States,” reported the Milan News Leader newspaper.

Right Side News has more on the implications of this development:

Unfortunately, the goal does not appear to be to integrate this new “city” into the existing community in and around Milan.

Rather, it appears that all of the new housing will be sold to people coming over from China. According to the Milan News Leader newspaper, the new housing units “would be marketed to Chinese business people who want to start companies in the United States”.

In essence, we would be looking at a new Chinese city right in the middle of Michigan.

Apparently Michigan isn’t the only state the ChiComs have set their sights on. An article at The American Dream asks some disturbing questions about China’s plans to establish “special economic zones” in the U.S. ~ China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho

Feeling ever more empowered these days, China pays little heed to U.S. concerns about that country’s recent military build-up, trade relations or their ongoing human-rights violations. Now that they own us (more than $1 trillion in Treasury debt – about 7% of our total outstanding debt) I doubt they’ll pay attention to any concerns we may have about the “Red” invasion. We sold any leverage we had along with our debt.

Too bad we ignored Ben’s wise advice:

“When you run in debt; you give to another power over your liberty.” ~ Benjamin Franklin ~
