Government Bureaucracy Hazardous to Your Health

Hope you’ve been stocking up on higher wattage incandescent bulbs – while you still can – because the news about CFLs just keeps getting worse and worse ~ Study: Eco-friendly bulbs could cause skin cancer (hey, nobody said saving the planet would be easy).

As I wrote back in November 2011;

… more importantly, beyond the corrupt politics-as-usual, the new CFLs (compact fluorescent lights) that they’re foisting on us to replace the incandescents, can be seriously hazardous to your health. The problem is that the cute curly bulbs contain mercury, which is a neurotoxin and considered hazardous waste. If one happens to break, it releases gaseous mercury. When initially turned on, they release chemicals into the atmosphere that are known to cause cancer. Even better, CFLs operate at a much higher frequency than incandescent bulbs, causing them to emit UV radiation. What’s not to love?

A couple months ago we learned that workers at CFL production facilities in China are developing mercury poisoning.

And now a recent study reaffirms the finding that exposure to the bulbs may lead to premature aging and skin cancer:

Research at Long Island’s Stony Brook found that the bulbs emit (UV) rays so strong that they can actually burn skin and skin cells.

“The results were that you could actually initiate cell death,” said Marcia Simon, a Professor of Dermatology.

It’s amazing really. The more the dictators in D.C. meddle in the free market, under the guise of taking care of us poor helpless citizens, the more Americans’ quality of life declines.

Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men

Re-post from last December (because it’s still one of the best carols ever) ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The lyrics to “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” are from a poem titled “Christmas Bells” written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, on December 25th, 1864. At the time, America was still immersed in the horrors of the Civil War. Longfellow was struggling with personal hardship as well; his wife had recently died tragically, and his son was suffering critical war injuries. Reflecting the despair he’s feeling, his poem begins on a somber note that gradually and confidently changes to renewed hope of triumphant peace – as he listens to the Christmas bells…
“God is not dead, nor does He sleep!”
One of my absolute favorite Christmas songs. Casting Crowns’ version does a wonderful job of bringing out the emotions behind Longfellow’s poem.
He said God had created man and woman as a specific ‘duality’ – “an essential aspect of what being human is all about…”
…”When freedom to be creative becomes the freedom to create oneself, then necessarily the Maker himself is denied and ultimately man too is stripped of his dignity as a creature of God.”
But the assault on marriage really got rolling in the 60’s with the introduction of no-fault divorce ~ Why is there no national conversation about the divorce? ~ Interesting article that discusses the damaging impact his parents’ divorce had on Adam Lanza. It may have been the tipping point ~
Family friends said Lanza’s problems started to escalate when his parents divorced in 2008 after 18 years together.
“He was always weird but the divorce affected him. He was arguing with his mother. He was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.”
Mayan Apocalypse: world survives predicted doomsday ~ Whew! 🙂
The end of the Mayan ‘Long Count’ calendar on December 21st was thought by many to herald the apocalypse, with the end expected by many at 11.11 GMT. The date marks the end of an era that lasted over 5,000 years, or 13 “bak’tuns”, according to the calendar.
“The whole thing was a misconception from the very beginning,” said Dr. John Carlson, director of the Center for Archaeoastronomy. “The Maya calendar did not end on Dec. 21, 2012, and there were no Maya prophecies foretelling the end of the world on that date.”
This just in from the Global Warming Front…
“Russian winter continues to kill;” that’s Pravda’s headline from Dec 19th ~
Abnormally low winter temperatures in Russia continue to claim more and more lives. Twenty-one people froze to death in only one day; 147 others were hospitalized with frostbite.
The cold weather in central Russia is not going to get any warmer soon. On December 19, the cold has reached St. Petersburg, where temperatures fell below -20 degrees Centigrade. It is 30 degrees below zero in the Ivanovo region, -22C in the Kaluga region, and -25 in Tver.
For the time being, the winter of 2012 has killed 45 people (266 have been hospitalized).
How cold is it? Whoa ~
[Video via RussiaToday and 9NewsWorld]
The video was shot in a Russian town where the outside temperature was -41 degrees Celcius (that’s roughly -41° Farenheit too) according to an app on the man’s phone.
As soon as the water hits the sub-zero winter air it turns into fog leaving a waterfall-like trail as it floats slowly towards the ground.
But despite the freezing temperatures, here’s a real heart-warming story from a Russian zoo ~
Caretakers looking after elephants left out in the cold in Russia were worried that the animals would freeze to death, so they gave them vodka to keep them warm, and apparently that is what saved their lives…
…(Novosibirsk’s zoo director Rostislav) Shilo said the mixture was not concentrated enough for the animals to become intoxicated.
Be careful though if you’re considering self-medicating for hypothermia . While it may help thaw chilly pachyderms, doctors say vodka may not be quite so beneficial for freezing humans ~
Russians are being warned by physicians that alcohol offers no real relief from freezing temperatures. “The idea that alcohol warms people up from within in freezing weather is wrong,” said Russian health official Dr. Gennady Onishchenko, as quoted in Pravda. “Alcohol only can only mislead people … [o]ne needs normal hearty food and warm clothing to be safe.”
But where would Russians be without
their Holiday Spirits? 😀
New leak shows predictions of planetary warming have been overstated. Washington Times editorial ~
Reality puts IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) in a bind. Despite the draft chart’s implicit admission that climate models have exaggerated warming, IPCC has not backed down from the tale that carbon dioxide, a natural byproduct of industrial society, is heating the planet. At the same time, the organization realizes it can no longer hide from the widely known temperature data. Billions of dollars are at stake, and politicians expect IPCC to continue drumming up the fears of imminent cataclysm necessary for advancing their classic tax-and-spend liberal agenda. The spending comes in the form of subsidies to trendy “green” companies (usually run by powerful Democratic donors), and cap-and-trade schemes supply the tax revenue.
Countdown to the End of the World
Uh oh. If you’re not in Bugarach by now – “French village Bugarach said to be only place that will survive Armageddon”
According to a combination of ancient Mayan prophecy and modern internet rumour, at some time during the course of next Friday we will all be obliterated: blown to smithereens by a rogue planet hitting Earth, swept away by a solar storm, or gobbled up by a vast black hole (or even a nasty mixture of all three).
[Source: UK MailOnline]
…don’t worry, you’ll probably survive anyway 🙂
Meanwhile, back at Fort Hood…
After Barack Obama’s news conference last Friday, one thing should now be perfectly clear: when it comes to the Manipulator-in-Chief’s acting skills, he’s much better at feigning outrage than compassion. That insincere “overwhelming grief” would be laughable if he weren’t shamelessly exploiting the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary for pure political expediency.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Check out the faux tears in this video [Via InfoWars.com] ➡ Pathetic.
Wish I could peek at the stage directions in his notes;
“blink several times… meaningful pause here… glance down sadly, count to ten… wipe “tear” away… now the other eye… “
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beyond the obvious, how do we know this is all a crock? Compare last week’s melodrama to Obama’s totally dispassionate response to the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.
Several hours after the Nov. 5th massacre (13 dead, 32 injured), the president briefly addressed the nation just prior to a previously scheduled event.
NBC Chicago characterized his remarks as; “frightening insensitivity following shooting; an awful moment for Barack Obama” ~
… instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a “shout-out” to “Dr. Joe Medicine Crow — that Congressional Medal of Honor winner.” Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?
Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter. The president should apologize for the tone of his remarks, explain what has happened, express sympathy for those slain and appeal for calm and patience until all the facts are in. That’s the least that should occur.
Of course none of that happened. Fort Hood didn’t fit the Islam-is-a-religion-of-peace narrative, nor could it be exploited to advance the administration’s anti-gun agenda. And they certainly wanted to avoid the politically-incorrect um, looks like we might have a jihadists-in-the-military problem.
The fact is, had the processing center on that army base not been a gun-free zone, Major Hasan’s body count wouldn’t have been nearly so high. Chances are good he would have been a fatality himself instead of taking up space in a federal prison more than three years later, with nothing better to do than grow a beard.
And where’s the righteous indignation over Benghazi? The crocodile tears over Fast & Furious? Let’s see… senseless murders, gun-running by the feds, massive cover-ups… Oh yeah, wrong agenda.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In his performance last Friday, Obama movingly pledged “every single resource available to investigate” the Connecticut tragedy. What a guy. If we didn’t know better we might actually believe he was sincere.

If he really had an ounce of integrity he’d stop ignoring the Coalition of the Fort Hood Heroes and pledge some resources to see that justice is finally done in Texas ~

Rather than pushing for Second Amendment restrictions under the guise of caring, wouldn’t it be refreshing if Obama actually stopped playing politics and started acting presidential? Don’t hold your breath.
