Detroit’s continued incompetence

Oh Detroit, I keep hoping now that you’ve hit bottom there’s no where to go but up…

But you keep letting me down 🙁

Vote Early! Vote Often!

Billboards with wrong general election date to be corrected [Fox News] ~

DETROIT (WJBK)

Billboards reminding Detroiters their vote is their voice are all over the city. They also mistakenly say the general election is September 2nd.

Apparently the Detroit City Clerk’s Office wanted the billboards “updated” on September 2 with the date of the general election. Clearly, the person responsible for the work got a little confused. No one caught the mistake until Clerk Janice Winfrey spotted the botched billboards and called the president of International Outdoor on Saturday, the same day the billboards were updated […]

The president of International Outdoor said all the billboards will be corrected Tuesday. The work will not cost the city a dime, and the company is even throwing in a few additional billboards for the city’s trouble.

The general election is November 5.

Youthful Disconnect

If you’ve had much interaction with today’s young people you may have come to the same disconcerting conclusion that I have; a large percentage of American youth seem to be losing touch with common sense, logic, transcendent truth – heck – with reality itself.

In an earlier era we would have blamed the “parental units” for not raising ‘em right. But these days, up against the public education system, main stream media outlets and the entertainment industry, parents barely stand a chance. According to Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh (who used to be a teacher) ~

Terrible public school teachers with personal agendas fail the young minds and society by using their influence and power to inculcate socialism and revisionist history onto the unchartered and unmapped brains of their students. Such teachers diminish and denigrate our common Christian roots while glorifying Islam.

And, I would add, undo much of the grounding Christian conservative parents try to give them in reality.

… it is easy to sell them anything because they confuse feelings with rational thought. They are told so often and so early in life that they are “special,” that they form a distorted view of themselves.

Undeserved praise is layered at every opportunity, even when Johnny walks across the stage without tripping. We can’t possibly hurt his self-esteem. Competition is evil, it is bourgeois, everybody knows we are “equal,” nobody is (exceptional) in any way; we are all born with the same IQ, same abilities, mental capacity, intelligence, talent, no genetic irregularities whatsoever. Why even try to learn, compete, be the best that you can be and achieve excellence? Those are capitalist values.

Ever since they were “invented,” sometime in mid-twentieth century, teenagers have been selfish, self-centered, superficial, and hopelessly idealistic. (I know, I was one!) Most of us used to mature our way out of those undesirable traits. Not so these days. (Witness the middle-aged folks on facebook who can’t make it through the day without their daily strokes of affirmation.)

And it is these immature young adults, conceited, yet surprisingly ignorant of how much they actually don’t know (“legends in their own minds” as it were), who are so susceptible to the leftist propaganda.

My own former students would arrive late to class, with flushed faces, filled with excitement, barely containing their happiness for having campaigned the entire day for the wonderful black man who will be president, “he is just so cool and fascinating and has a nice family.” Once elected, they were sure, America would rid itself of racism.” […]

Young people have been indoctrinated in schools to glorify other cultures, multiculturalism, and other religions to the detriment of their own “inferior” culture and religion. Yet it is our culture and Christian religion that have created Mozart, classical music, surgery, medicine, technology, space exploration, car industry, oil extraction, and pretty much anything else that brought humanity into the 21st century.

I’d like to believe that some day these “young skulls full of mush,” as Rush Limbaugh often refers to today’s youth, will wake up and see the utopian fantasies of the Left for the lies they are. Dr. Paugh is hopeful ~

In time, reality strikes young people in aha moments and wakes them up, shocks them, and perhaps transforms some into productive Americans.

I’m not so sure…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Paugh begins her article, “The Confused and Misguided Youth,” with a quote from the wonderfully insightful Thomas Sowell (whose work everyone should read). I’ll conclude with it ~
“The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even
that Johnny can’t think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know
what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”
~ Thomas Sowell ~
Why Bother with Borders at all?!
Still think you’re living in a sovereign nation? Where our elected officials have even a modicum of respect for the rule of law?
BWHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Sorry to be the one to disabuse you of those assumptions, but check out the latest from Fox News: “Agencies buying hotel rooms for surge of Mexican illegal immigrants, others released”~
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been paying for hotel rooms for dozens of recently arrived families to relieve overcrowding inside the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa, Calif., processing centers. Some ICE employees are working overtime and others have been asked to volunteer to work weekend shifts. “Duties include intake, placements, transports and release of family groups and unaccompanied minors,” according to a memo obtained by Fox News.
The surge has raised suspicions about what is driving the influx, amid claims that illegal immigrants have learned they can attempt to get asylum by using a few key words — namely, by claiming they have a “credible fear” of drug cartels.
Instead of doing their job: securing the border; ICE is acting as the damn welcoming committee!
“C’mon in! No place to stay? No problemo! Mi Casa es Su Casa!”
Fox has “Exclusive” video HERE. But I think the local ABC affiliate (abc10) in San Diego was the first to break the story a couple days ago ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, just so we get this straight – German homeschoolers – gotta go, amnesty’s gonna cost us billions more, and any foreigner who utters the code words “credible fear” will be welcomed in with open arms.

Why we don’t just disband ICE (although this insanity is coming from the top, not so much the agents on the front lines) – along with any other form of border security? What a sad joke America is becoming.

Enshrining the Falsehoodie

Here’s one of those laugh-so-you-don’t-cry stories: The Shroud of Trayvon.

Not content with having stirred up racial tensions from sea to shining sea, the progressive charlatans who convicted George Zimmerman without a trial now hope to have Trayvon Martin’s ill-fated hoodie displayed in the Smithsonian.
From Front Page Magazine ~

Just when you think the left can’t possibly get more unhinged about the shooting of black Trayvon Martin, the next step in his beatification is getting underway: the hoodie he died in may be acquired for the Smithsonian Institution. This not only will imbue it with an historical civil rights significance, which it has not earned, but will practically accord it the status of a religious relic.

Ever since the Left injected racism into the unfortunate death of Martin, the Hoodie has become their banner for “justice.” But, as Mark Tapson explains ~

… it is precisely the nature of the hoodie’s irrational power that derails honest discussion about race in “the age of Obama.” Draping itself in the shroud of Trayvon and clinging to a false narrative of racial grievance, the left feels no obligation to face facts about the case or to engage in any self-examination about the state of race in America today; instead they simply wave the hoodie as a symbol of the race war they imagine the White Power Structure is waging against blacks.

Lost in the entire phony narrative surrounding Martin’s death was a fundamental truth about human nature; when confronted with someone or something that looks suspicious, it’s in our own primal self-interest to react accordingly – not pretend that we’ve suddenly gone deaf, dumb and blind.

The utopian fantasists of the left refuse to acknowledge this, but judging strangers based on their appearance is a reasonable and natural act of self-preservation. Considering that hoodies are the uniform of choice for gangsta-wannabes, Occupy Wall Street vandals, and others who need a reason to partially conceal their identity, that article of clothing cannot escape its association with thugs. If you don’t want to be viewed with suspicion, don’t dress or act suspiciously. Dress like a prospect, not a suspect, as the saying goes.

It’s not rocket science people.
Tapson concludes his article with this ~

If it deserves a spot in the Smithsonian at all, it should not be as an emblem of white America’s ingrained racism toward blacks, but as a symbol of the left’s ingrained grievance-mongering and their refusal to embrace responsibility and reconciliation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here’s my suggestion for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture:
Title the new exhibit “Keeping the FalseHood Alive.” And right next to the sweatshirt, include a small display with package of Skittles, a can of Arizona Watermelon fruit juice cocktail, and a recipe for a batch of homemade “poor man’s PCP.”
Saturday Shorts – 8-10-13
Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Why this Christian Supports Israel ~ “You may as well ask me why I choose good over evil.”
Op-ed by Gary Bauer at The Jewish Press cites the many values and qualities that America has in common with the Jewish nation. Above all, don’t forget; without the Jews, there would be no Jesus. 🙂
Tea party petition to prosecute Eric Holder nears 1 million signers ~ Meant to mention this a couple weeks ago. Pro-‘gay’ media oddly silent on (Wikileaks) traitor’s sexuality ~ Funny how gender preference is all-important when it comes to pushing an agenda. But otherwise it’s supposed to be completely irrelevant ~
“Imagine if Bradley Manning had committed some act of bravery and was in line to get a medal. Do you think they’d be silent about his sexuality then? I don’t think so. This is about what is better for their narrative.” – Matt Philbin (Media Research Center)
Canadian legal professions: Christians must embrace gay ‘marriage’ to practice law ~ Dissent will no longer be tolerated. Bet you thought all they wanted to do was marry the one they love….
In their own devious way the homosexual activists are every bit as totalitarian as the Islamists who want to impose Sharia law.
And with each passing day it appears that our own military is turning into the thought police as well ~ Christian Soldiers Fight for Rights They’re Denied. They’re no longer even free to believe homosexuality is a sin? Is this still America?
Roaring lambs: Young adults join together to learn strategies for defending traditional marriage ~ A glimmer of hope that the truth won’t entirely drown in a sea of moral relativism; millennial counterculture.
Father Angel?
Aug. 13, 2013 Up-date: Mysterious Priest turns out to be mortal after all ~ Mystery priest from serious Missouri accident revealed.
Even though Rev. Patrick Dowling was an earthly angel, his presence that morning was evidence of God’s hand at work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In case you missed it, here’s a shiver-inducing story that’s pretty much gone viral. It took place at the scene of a car crash last Sunday morning, on a stretch of rural highway in Missouri ~

Aaron Smith, 26, struck (Katie Lentz, 19) in a head-on car crash on Sunday morning. After 60 minutes of emergency responders trying to get Lentz out of the vehicle (she was pinned between the steering wheel and the seat), rescue crews, at the young woman’s request, prayed out loud for her. As they did, (a) mystery priest appeared. According to accounts, he came out of nowhere and brought intense calm upon the situation.

“He came up and approached the patient and offered a prayer,” New London Fire Chief Raymond Reed told KHQA-TV. “It was a Catholic priest who had anointing oil with him. A sense of calmness came over her, and it did us as well.”

After another fire department showed up, the rescue proceeded easily and the tools worked, as promised. But when nearly a dozen firefighters turned around to thank the priest, he was gone; the road was empty. Since, no one has seen or heard from the man and his identity remains a mystery.

Source: The Blaze

Not surprisingly, news like this takes on a life of its own. People are now saying the mystery priest looked like Walter Matthau. 🙂
Who knows?

For me, it’s a comforting reminder of the Lord’s omnipresence. And evidence that they’re truly are angels among us.

The people LGBT Activists want to ignore

As we all know, those in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-gender) activist movement are among the most tolerant and non-judgmental folks you’d ever want to meet. 🙄 Well, maybe not. Unless you agree with their anything-goes approach to human sexuality. Otherwise, forget about it.
Just ask Grace Harley, an African-American woman who lived for 18 years as a transgendered man named Joe;

“I have suffered more discrimination and intolerance as an ex-gay than I did when I was actually in the [homosexual] lifestyle. Former homosexuals like me need protection.”

Harley was one the speakers at a gathering of former homosexuals in Washington D.C. last Wednesday, July 31st.

As reported in World Magazine, the group – representing about 10 different organizations – held a small rally on the steps of the Supreme Court, petitioning for recognition and equal rights under the Constitution.

The assembled speakers on Wednesday only numbered about a dozen, but they said there are thousands of ex-gays around the country who are afraid to identify as such.[…]

Richard Cohen, who appeared with his wife of 33 years, said he was delivered from unwanted same-sex attraction and now helps others do the same. Cohen is a psychotherapist and founder of International Healing Foundation and said through thousands of counseling sessions he’s found there are many reasons people become gay. He said he has an 85 percent success rate with those who want to change their orientation, using a three-step process: Identifying root causes, healing root causes, and helping people bond in friendship with their own gender.

For one of the participants last Wednesday, the event was the culmination of a 10-day cross-country trip from Dallas. From LifeSiteNews: Former homosexual, fed up with threats of violence, launches ten-day road trip to Washington, D.C. ~

(Douglas) McIntyre was moved to action by the recent postponing of the kickoff event for the first-ever Ex-Gay Pride Month, which had been scheduled for July 31 at the Family Research Center in Washington, D.C.. The event was rescheduled for September and moved to an undisclosed location after threats of protests and violence caused organizers to worry for the safety of their guests and speakers.

On the way to the capitol, McIntyre made several stops ~

… in Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh and Richmond to rally with supporters and “draw attention to the homo-fascism in this country – the bullying from gay activists who say only one viewpoint on homosexuality can be tolerated.”[…]

McIntyre, who co-founded Homosexuals Anonymous*, which he describes as the oldest and longest-running organization in the world helping individuals with unwanted same-sex attraction leave homosexuality, said the ongoing campaign of intimidation by homosexuals against those who have chosen to leave the lifestyle must stop.[…]

McIntyre is calling his road trip “Grandpa Goes to Washington,” as he is now a grandfather of four. He says that part of the purpose of his trip is to advocate for the next generation of young people, whom he worries are being brainwashed by a culture that glorifies disordered sexuality.

*Mr. McIntyre gives some very powerful testimony in “Treasures,” a short series of videos on his homepage. Truly worthwhile for anyone in need of a healing savior.

Many LGBT activists prefer to demonize the ex-gay movement, accusing it of hate and intolerance, rather than recognize the legitimacy of the cause. And they have been fairly successful in preventing any dissent from their position. For the most part, this story from two years ago was ignored or completely buried ~

Major study: changing sexual orientation is possible

A meta-analysis of over 100 years’ worth of research into therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction published in June 2009 concluded that homosexuality was not immutable, and that individuals seeking change could benefit from therapy.[…]

Homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder in 1973 in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the universal standard for classification of mental illness, after years of high-pressure lobbying by gay rights activists. The change sparked a policy shift in other top professional associations, which now uniformly oppose SSA therapy.

Dr. Robert Spitzer, who was in charge of the DSM change, reversed his position on therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction nearly 30 years later to support such therapy based on his own research.

In the end, it’s all about the politics. The truth is not something the homosexual activists really want to face. What the militants in the movement want is to force the rest of us to believe their lies.

No thank-you.

“IPAB” – Death Panel by any other name…

Here’s another excellent video from PJTV’s Afterburner, with Bill Whittle. Remember all the snide mockery mileage the Left got out of Sarah Palin’s assertion of “death panels” in Obamacare? Turns out the laugh’s on the Left (although they’ll never admit it). The official name for “death panel” in the Affordable Care Act is Independent Patient Advisory Board (IPAB). And it really isn’t a laughing matter ~

The final nail in the coffin of the Act should be the Internal Revenue Service’s own furious efforts to escape the bane of Obamacare. To paraphrase Whittle; What does it tell you when the IRS, the group taxed with enforcing this leviathan, are lobbying strenuously to exempt themselves from it?

Can we just DEFUND this disaster already?!

Saturday Shorts – 8-3-13

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

The Problem with Sexual Compatibility ~ The sixties’ Sexual Revolution convinced most of us that “sex” was the ultimate good. (No wonder all 70 year-olds think they need to be on Viagra!) And that marriage was nothing without sexual compatibility. How’s that approach worked out?
This article at the Gospel Coalition, explains that God has something better in mind for male/female committed relationships. Interesting concept to ponder…

The Pervert Party ~ As if we needed Anthony Weiner’s antics to remind us how sex-obsessed our society has become. And,

(by) routinely excoriating Republicans as horribly repressive anti-sex zealots, Democrats have managed to convince a lot of Americans that there is no real danger to our society from creeps and perverts and rampant promiscuity. No, say the Democrats, the real danger is that those reactionary Republican bigots might “turn back the clock” and deprive America of such glorious pleasures as abortion, sex education, pornography and casual hook-ups arranged on the Internet.

Wind turbines: blights on the American landscape ~
Taxpayer dollars are helping prop up the unsightly behemoths yet, (a)fter two decades of huge subsidies for wind energy, nowhere in the world has an array of wind turbines replaced a single conventional power plant.

The Detroit Template ~ Mock Motown if you must, but the rest of the country isn’t far behind ~

… every level of government has promised too much and is now faced with the politically unappealing prospect of either drastically increasing taxes for the working age population or significantly reducing benefits for the retired (or future retired). As evidenced by the Detroit bankruptcy, the longer we wait, the worse it will get. The greater the delay, the more pain and suffering citizens will face when the benefits and safety nets they have come to expect from the government suddenly disappear.

Why is American racism impossible to defeat? ~ Like other unsavory pursuits, there’s too much money to be made in race-hustling ~

The truth — the cold hard truth — is that this cadre of voices (Sharpton, Holder, Jackson, Obama, et al.) benefit far more by practicing racism in theory, rhetoric, and actions, than by ever seeking honest resolutions. They continue to be propped up by those who keep themselves intellectually shallow of fact. And a handful of media outlets — mostly operated by NBC — seem to pander on the issue instead of seeking intellectually rigorous, heartfelt, passionate solutions to the problems that face the nation.

And then we get this: Nice Work, Barack… Zimmerman Family Receives Over 400 Death Threats a Minute ~ Thanks to the Race-Baiter-in-Chief, George and his family will probably have to go into hiding for the rest of their lives. What kind of neo-barbarians have we become?

In a related article ~ Stop blaming racism for your own bad behavior! Isn’t it high time to honor Martin Luther King’s dream and start judging by the content of character? Or would that be “racist!?”

Zimbabwe Holds Unfree and Unfair Elections ~ Sadly the people of this African nation are still stuck with a despotic ruler, and the culture of despair that he’s created.

Now that our illustrious leaders are home from D.C. for the summer recess, it’s time to let them know what we think of their job performance 😡 (and remind them that they work for us – not vice versa!). Here’s a helpful resource: TeaParty Toolkit

Last best chance to dump Obamacare

Obamacare has to go. Even the legislative body that passed the Affordable Care Act wants no part of it: Is Congress Too Good for Obamacare?

Here’s the best shot we’ll have to actually stop it in its tracks ~

This is a Senate initiative, sponsored by Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT). The site includes a complete list of all senate members and where they currently stand on this issue. RINOs who so far have refused to sign the pledge include John McCain (AZ), Mitch McConnell (KY), Tom Colburn (OK), Linsey Graham (SC) and Orrin Hatch (UT). Now’s a good time to apply some serious pressure to these poltroons – they should all be home for the summer recess.

But most importantly, visit DontFundObamacare and sign the pledge. (All you need enter is your name and email address.)

In case you’ve forgotten all the specific reasons to kill this nightmare legislation, Heritage has a good recap HERE.
