Saturday Shorts – 9-28-13

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Blaming the Crusades for Jihad ~ New book from former Muslim, Ibn Warraq, refutes the Islamist version of history. The truth is, “(b)laming the Crusades is a way of denying the Islamic supremacist ideology that has driven the conflict from the beginning.”

Endgame: 61% of Americans, including near-majority of Democrats, don’t think Redskins should change their name ~ Never fear, it’s just a matter of time before the ruling elite, assisted by msm agit-prop, convince the sheeple that the nick-name “Redskins” is “racist-sexist-bigoted-homophobic” and has to go.

Cyprus-Style Wealth Confiscation Is Now Starting To Happen All Over The Globe ~ Iceland, Italy, Poland, New Zealand…
Did you ever stop to think about who’s going to pay for Obamacare? Not to mention the National Debt – which is now almost 17 trillion?

What does all of this mean for us?

It means that the governments of the world are eyeing our money as part of the solution to any future failures of major banks.

A Useless Obama Addresses the Useless United Nations ~ at the annual Big Apple Circus ~

In so many ways, the UN either does not solve problems or is an integral part of them […]

What we know about the United Nations is that it should be told to leave the U.S. and its headquarters turned into condominiums. We are surely not getting any value for the money we have pumped into the UN.

POTUS knows it’s all a farce ~
Obama lies to UN human rights official about not having smoked in six years ~ 🙄 The president struggles with the truth? Shocking, I know.

Ted Cruz isn’t abnormal; Washington is ~ Far from being “extremist,” “anarchist” and “radical,” Ted Cruz’s position against the “Affordable Care Act” is one that most Americans actually agree with. Some enlightening facts from Star Parker ~

The 2010 health care reform commonly called “ObamaCare,” which passed without a single Republican vote, has only gotten more unpopular. A USA Today/Pew Research Center poll this week shows 53 percent of Americans disprove of the new law and 42 percent approve. Forty-one percent strongly disapprove and 26 percent strongly approve.

The NYT’s differing take on two speeches: Wendy Davis vs. Ted Cruz ~ More evidence of the Regular American~Ruling Class disconnect; the parallel universe of the New York Times.

SEIU workers strike over Obamacare job cuts ~

Union members losing jobs and having their hours cut because of the socialistic health care program they supported? 😯 Unlike all the Americans who opposed Obamacare, they deserve it.

But what do want to bet they’ll still find a way to blame those rascally Republicans?

Unstoppable: Despite social media setbacks, Kirk Cameron’s documentary makes a viral splash ~ Cameron’s new film “Unstoppable,” dealing with the age-old dilemma of why God allows evil to exist, opened on September 24th. A second showing is scheduled for this Thursday, October 3rd.

Sing Along With Obamacare

In honor of our Roman Senate’s French Republicans, who just voted to continue having We-the-Peasants pay for their Cadillac healthcare plan, here’s a catchy little ditty that tells you everything you need to know about Obamacare ~

[Yet another splendid creation from reason.com. Unfortunately a
too-late entry for the government-touted Healthy Young America Video contest,
which was designed to promote the benefits of The Affordable Care Act.

😀 Sing along folks!

What’s hated by unions
has businesses wary
and dropping coverage
like the ‘Skins secondary?

Causing thousands of layoffs
taking it’s toll?
What’s so good for people
that they’re forced to enroll?

What’s a law that’s so good
folks who passed and defended it
see it and got waivers
to be exempted? It’s

like Olestra, at first
it sounded hip
but we quickly found ourselves
dealing with a whole lot of sh…

Obamacare, Obamacare
Unions and businesses both in despair

Food Stamp Fraud at Obama’s Namesake

And in a development no one would have predicted 🙄 ~ ‘Obama Express’ Grocery Store Caught in Food Stamp Trafficking
“No way” you say? Au contraire ~

Abdullah Aljaradi, owner of “Second Obama Express” (and “D&M Deli & Grocery”) was one of nine retailers in Baltimore County, Maryland arrested last week for…

… illegally redeeming food stamps for cash and kicking back a portion to food stamp recipients. The retailers did not sell them any merchandise or food […]

From October 2010 through July 2013, Aljaradi allegedly obtained more than $2 million in payments for food sales that never occurred.

What the heck. Aljaradi was just engaging in a little pro-active redistribution. I’m sure his hero would approve.

Pelosi’s Pontifications

Asked for her opinion on the Pope’s recent remarks concerning issues such as abortion and homosexuality, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was quite cheery; “the Pope is starting to sound like the nuns […] ~

“And I can tell you that there is great joy among Catholics and friends of Catholics as to respect that his Holiness pays to all of God’s creation and members of the church and then beyond that. It’s really quite remarkable. It’s a source of joy to us all.”

Call me sacrilegious but if Pelosi is suddenly thrilled with a papal proclamation, it might be time for the Vatican to rethink their messaging.

Pretending that God doesn’t care whether we obey the laws He’s established (for our own good, by the way) doesn’t accomplish anything beyond promoting a progressive agenda.

Pelosi is by no means the first to employ this strategy; it’s actually one of the oldest tricks in the book. Satan has been misinterpreting scripture to suit his own purposes for millennia.

But then, freelancing Catholic theology to fit her progressive ideology is nothing new for Nancy either. Remember a few years back when she was pretending that the Church was fuzzy on whether or not life begins at conception? ~

“I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition.”

Many Catholics are not particularly enamored with Pelosi playing fast and loose with their faith. She may actually be denied communion if the Vatican Chief Justice get his way ~

Because of her longstanding support for abortion, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a Catholic, must be denied Communion under the law of the Catholic Church, said Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the highest court at the Vatican […]

“This is a person who obstinately, after repeated admonitions, persists in a grave sin–cooperating with the crime of procured abortion–and still professes to be a devout Catholic.”

Cardinal Burke sums up Nancy Pelosi’s brand of pseudo-Catholicism quite well ~

“This is a prime example of what Blessed John Paul II referred to as the situation of Catholics who have divorced their faith from their public life and therefore are not serving their brothers and sisters in the way that they must–in safeguarding and promoting the life of the innocent and defenseless unborn, in safeguarding and promoting the integrity of marriage and the family.”

The World’s War on Christendom – Latest Dispatch from the Front

While the terrorism/ hostage situation has been unfolding in a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, the media has pretty much been ignoring the massacre of dozens of Christians in Peshawar, Pakistan yesterday. Yes, representatives of the Religion of Peace apparently thought that attacking a church on a Sunday, just as parishioners were leaving, would really advance their cause; Suicide bombers kill 60 Christians outside Pakistan church (The total has since climbed to more than 80 dead.) ~

Two suicide bombers are believed to have entered the All Saints Church after shooting dead police guards, and detonated their explosive vests.

Police said 350 members of the congregation were in the church when the bombers struck and that the death toll is expected to increase because many were being treated in hospital are in a critical condition.

Claiming responsibility for the blasts is a faction of the TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan), an ally of the Afghan Taliban and al-Qaeda which has strongholds in the north-west tribal belt, along the Pakistan-Afghan border.

There has been an upsurge in terrorist attacks on religious minorities in Pakistan in the last decade.

Christian churches have suffered grenade and machine gun attacks, while Pakistan’s Christian minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti was assassinated in 2011 for opposing the country’s discriminatory blasphemy laws. Seven Christians were burned to death in 2009 when a Muslim mob torched 40 houses and a church.

Any one else find it unsettling that President Obama claimed to be a Christian – yet never, ever, bothers to condemn Islamic attacks on those of the same faith?

Persecution of Copts, who dated their church to Gospel writer St Mark in Alexandria, was at its worst since the fourteenth century, with ‘horrific levels of violence’.

‘It has been the worst persecution in 700 years against the oldest, largest remaining Christian minority in the Middle East.’

Founding Wisdom [Flouted by the Foolish]

No, the Second Amendment isn’t about hunting ~

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”

Saturday Shorts – 9-21-13

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) tweets the ENTIRE Constitution ~ in honor of Constitution Day on Tuesday. Let’s see the Obama try that with his (UN)Affordable Care Act!

Interactive map shows your odds of becoming a violent crime victim by Michigan city ~ May come in handy if you’re thinking of resettling in the Great Lakes State.

Uncovered docs: IRS flagged groups in 2011 based on ‘anti-Obama rhetoric’ ~ Since these individuals and organizations are the same ones the msm targets for abuse, don’t be expecting any real repercussions ~

The beauty of having fellow travelers who move regularly back and forth between the utopian cities of Hope and Change is that there often isn’t much of a paper trail because memos aren’t a necessity — they just know what to do.

Fast Food Wages and Fabian Follies ~ Demands for a “living wage” are rooted in the destructive ideology of Fabian Socialists.

LATEST GITMO-RELATED NEWS:
Released Guantanamo Bay Detainee Died Fighting Assad Regime, YouTube Video Reportedly Confirms ~ Meanwhile, the dictator-in-chief is sending arms to this dude’s compadres in Syria. Yet another outrage that no one in the ruling class seems too concerned about.

Gitmo Policy Change: Only Leftist Groups Get Access ~

In a startling about-face, the Obama administration is restricting exclusive access to Military Commission hearings in Guantanamo Bay to five leftist human rights groups that openly advocate for the terrorist defendants.

So much for freedom of the press. And now we know for sure that the leftist, anti-American rot has pretty much permeated the Pentagon; they’re the agency responsible for choosing which groups are allowed access.

Does This Bible Verse Cited by Bill Nye and Bill Maher Really Prove That ‘Religion Is the Enemy of Science’? ~ Not at all. It merely proves that lefties are highly skilled in the fine arts of propaganda and name calling. Good apologetic article; explaining that it was because they wanted to study and learn more about God’s creation that Christians were actually in the vanguard of science.

“The scientific developments of the world came precisely from the Judeo-Protestant outlook that extolls man’s open-ended quest to decipher God’s universe” ~ Rabbi Aryeh Spero

‘May your children all die’: Communications Chair of Sacramento Dems attacks Amanda Carpenter ~ Yes, just another charming Democrat expressing his loathing for anyone opposed to Obama’s progressive agenda.
@Iowahawk had the best comeback tweet ~

‘The Blind Side’ Actor’s Adherence to God, Refusal to Compromise His Values in Hollywood — and a New Role in ‘Left Behind’ ~ Quinton Aaron, who played Michael Oher in the 2009 movie, just finished filming his latest picture, and…

… (says) he has faith that God will ensure he takes the right opportunities. Unlike other performers, Aaron said that he refuses to “go outside” of his character to get a gig.

“If I have to degrade myself or do something that I’m not willing to do as a Christian to get something, I’m just not willing to do it,” he said. “Another opportunity will come.”

Durbin’s “Dream Girl”

Dear citizens of the great state of Illinois:
Seriously?
This is the best you can do? ~

In 2012, Sen. Dick Durbin (Democrat-Illinois) took to the floor of the Senate and held up a gigantic photograph of a smiling young woman wearing a Muslim hijab with an American flag in the background.

He introduced her as Alaa Mukahhal, a Kuwaiti-born ‘Dreamer’ activist whom he described as being ‘of Palestinian descent,’ and who was brought to the country illegally at a young age by her parents, went on to become an honor student, get a degree in architecture and now needed a path to citizenship so, Durbin said, she could fufill her American dream.

This charming tableau was of course aimed at embarrassing cruel, xenophobic Americans who happen to believe in old-fashioned ideas like the rule of law, and national sovereignty. Calculated to tug at our heartstrings and shame us into going along – again – with amnesty.

Well, despite having (I’m sure) the best of progressive intentions, it turns out Dick was sort of misrepresenting his little “Dream Girl” (Or possibly being played for a fool) ~

A look her Facebook page paints a different picture of Alaa than Sen. Durbin’s glowing ode: she’s a potty mouthed, politically correct, Israel hating radical activist who drops F bombs and politically correct buzzwords with equal acumen.

After Sen. Durbin held up the photo of her with the US flag featured prominently, Alaa took to her Facebook page to chortle about how the flag wasn’t there to show any love for the United Stated — a country she said she hated when she came here — but a PR prop.

Breitbart has the whole story HERE & HERE.

I just have one final question ~
Land of Lincoln: Can’t you find any normal Americans to elect?

Motor City Takedown: Operation Compliance

On the heels of a good news story about the city of Detroit, comes yet another not-so-good one (from Reason.com) ~

According to many small business owners in Detroit, the city’s overzealous code enforcement is making it increasing difficult to survive ~

Amidst a bankruptcy and a fast-dwindling population and tax base, the city has prioritized the task of ensuring that all businesses are in compliance with its codes and permitting. To accomplish this, Mayor David Bing announced in January that he’d assembled a task force to execute Operation Compliance.

Operation Compliance began with the stated goal of shutting down 20 businesses a week. 😯 Since its inception, Operation Compliance has resulted in the closure of 383 small businesses, with another 536 in the “process of compliance,” according to figures provided to Reason TV by city officials.

But business owners say that Operation Compliance unfairly targets small, struggling businesses in poor areas of town and that the city’s maze of regulations is nearly impossible to navigate, with permit fees that are excessive and damaging to businesses running on thin profit margins.

In the story I wrote about earlier, someone at city hall actually came to their senses and re-wrote an out-dated, anti-entrepreneurial ordinance, thus empowering Detroiters to profit from their own gardening labors. What a concept!

Where did that person or persons go? Why can’t we encourage a little prosperity and unshackle these small business owners in the same way?

“Paging Mr./Ms. Common Sense…”

Rebuilding the Temple?

End times prophecy is a tricky – and frequently contentious – business. It’s definitely confusing, but intentionally so I think.

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no,
not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

~ Matthew 24:36 ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Of course the confusion doesn’t stop the endless speculation and predictions, educated and otherwise. And scripture does provide us with some signs to watch and wait for.
One of the more commonly held beliefs is that, before Christ’s return, a new temple must be built on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The Third Temple would replace the first; constructed by King Solomon and destroyed by the Babylonians (587 BC), and the second; rebuilt in 516 BC and razed by the Romans a few decades after Jesus’ crucifixion.
Since reconstruction of the temple may or may not mean the Second Coming is imminent, it’s always interesting when talk of rebuilding heats up; In Jerusalem, rabbis are designing a new hi-tech temple.
Jake Wallis Simons (UK Telegraph) recently visited the Temple Institute exhibition, a collection of archaeological treasures in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, and spoke with its director, Rabbi Chaim Richman ~
A plush, hi-tech gallery, spanning 600 sq ft, (the exhibition) hosts a collection of vestments and sacred vessels to be used by the Jewish high priest. This is not a museum, insists Rabbi Richman, 54, the international director of the organisation. Apart from the Ark of the Covenant, every artefact on display has been painstakingly created in accordance with Biblical instructions and is intended for actual service in a “third Jewish temple”, which will be built as soon as possible.
The Temple institute employs 20 full-time Talmudic scholars…
… to study the elaborate, 2,000-year-old laws governing the construction of temple artefacts. But, before you accuse Richman and his colleagues of being old-fashioned, the Temple Institute has drawn up plans for the new temple that include two very contemporary features: a monorail, to transport visitors right to the door, and a 6ft-high computerised water dispenser with 12 taps so that an entire shift of priests can wash their hands at once […]
“There is no reason why we shouldn’t use technology, which is the modern miracle, alongside the heavenly miracles,” the rabbi tells me. “It’s part of our vision of [the temple] as a realistic potential in our times. I’m sure it will have elevators, underfloor heating and a car park.”
Of course, any mention of rebuilding the temple never sits well with Islamists: Muslims Outraged Over Construction Of The ‘Third Temple.’ Although the Jewish claim to the site goes back well over two millennia, Muslims assert that the temple mount belongs to them because they erected the Dome of the Rock there in 687 AD. And here’s the real flashpoint between the two faiths: for the temple to be rebuilt, the Dome of the Rock would have to come down. (And you thought the Middle East was in crisis already!)
Rabbi Richman doesn’t seem too fazed by any Muslim objections to the Third Temple ~
“This is about God’s territory. Islam took advantage of our exile and began to squat on Temple Mount and deny that Jews were ever here. We have a birthright to this place, and I don’t see why we should be embarrassed about it.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, OK then.

As unlikely as the prospect of a new temple in Jerusalem may seem at the moment, keep in mind that the prophets had other things to say about Israel before the end times, one of which came about in just the last century. For almost 2000 years the Jewish people had been scattered throughout the world. Even 100 years ago, few would have believed the Israel would be reborn in 1948.

The Old Testament prophets didn’t just predict the Diaspora, they also foretold the eventual restoration of the nation. Ezekiel was one of these men. Writing some 2600 years ago, he not only said that Israel would be reunited after a world-wide dispersion but also predicted that, before the Messiah returned, a great enemy would rise up against the new nation…

If you find eschatology (the theological study of last things, i.e. end times) as fascinating as I do, I recommend checking out the Midnight Watcher for an interesting, thoughtful approach to current events and their relation to Biblical prophecies.

Housing Minister Ariel launches virtual Temple Mount tours on Tisha B’Av ~ The virtual tour is pretty cool (one of those 360° viewers) but you won’t know what’s what unless you can read Hebrew (I couldn’t find an English version 🙁 ).

A Rebuilt Jewish Temple, or Something Else? (2 Thessalonians 2:4) ~ Many believe that scriptural references to rebuilding the temple refer to a spiritual – rather than physical – restoration of Christ’s church ~

… we first need to keep in mind that the Apostle Paul and Jesus both pointed to a Last Days event that would take place just before the Day of the Lord (Christ’s post-trib Second Coming). Paul referred to it as the man of lawlessness/man of sin who sets himself up in “the temple of God” (2 Thess 2:4), while Jesus described it as the Abomination of Desolation standing in “the holy place” (Matt 24:15). Many have assumed that the temple mentioned by Paul must be a physical temple in Jerusalem, however according to the verses below we are continually reminded that the true temple of God is no longer a physical temple — after the final sacrifice of Christ the veil was torn and animal sacrifices were no longer of any value — but is instead now a spiritual temple.

(1 Cor 3:17; 1 Peter 2:5; Eph 2:19-22)
