Skewed Priorities

While the mainstream media was focused on the latest news from La-La Land – (Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s alleged racist remarks to his girlfriend) – outraged over a surreptitiously recorded conversation that hurt exactly no one – most of them glossed over the deaths of three American doctors, murdered by Islamic extremists in Afghanistan ~

April 24, 2014 – The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan confirmed Thursday that three American doctors — including a father and son — were killed by an Afghan security guard who opened fire at a Kabul hospital.

Two of the dead Americans were a father and son, Minister of Health Soraya Dalil said, adding that the third American was a Cure International doctor who had worked for seven years in Kabul.

CUREdocsmurdered
One of the doctors has been identified as Dr. Jerry Umanos, who practiced pediatric medicine at Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago, officials from the center said.

Dalil said an American nurse also was wounded in the attack […]

Source: Fox News

CURE International, the Christian non-profit organization that these doctors were affiliated with, is a group of charitable hospitals and surgical programs that delivers life-changing medical care and the good news of God’s love to children and families with treatable conditions.
CURElogo
Founded in 1998, the organization has facilities in 29 countries worldwide. CURE specializes in conditions like clubfoot, bowed legs, cleft lips, untreated burns, and hydrocephalus. Without treatment, they won’t go to school and will have little hope for a future. Many will die from their condition.

But apparently, saving the lives of children, trying to make the world a better place in God’s name, doesn’t sit too well with the barbarian faction in Afghanistan.

The Afghan capital has seen a spate of attacks on foreign civilians in 2014, a worrying new trend as the U.S.-led military coalition prepares to withdraw most troops by the end of the year.

It was unclear whether the Taliban were behind Thursday’s shooting, though the insurgents have claimed several major attacks that killed foreign civilians this year, an escalation after years of mostly targeting foreign military personnel and Afghan security forces.

Source: Fox News

This senseless attack is sadly reminiscent of a similar tragedy less that 4 years ago: Taliban executes Christian medical team in Afghanistan; 6 American doctors among those murdered.

Thank God for these selfless Christians who are willing to serve the least of these even at the risk of their own lives. Don’t their service and sacrifice deserve more than a passing mention? Why does one ignorant NBA owner warrant 100 times the media coverage that this story received?

The low-information people will have never heard about this senseless attack – most probably couldn’t find Afghanistan on a map anyway. But hey, they know the LA Clippers owner is a big fat racist. Priorities ya know.

A message on CURE’s website from President & CEO Dale Brantner ends with this request ~

Please pray with the 1,600 CURE employees worldwide that God would comfort the families of these victims as well as all those affected by this tragedy and give them a peace that truly defies human understanding.

Obama Praises Muslims in Easter Message ~
Sadly, as evidenced by the numerous quotes accompanying this article at Atlas Shrugs, this is pretty much what we’ve come to expect from America’s first non-Christian president.

Easter killings in CAR ~ Muslim extremists acknowledge Easter holy day by murdering Christians ~

For many Christians in the Central African Republic, Easter was synonymous with tragedy, adding to their already difficult circumstances. Two priests were killed, four others briefly detained and a number of villages were attacked by ex-Seleka fighters in recent days.

Syria: Is Assad winning?

Lurch&theGiantRedLineBallsmNow that Lurch Obama’s Secretary of State has moved the mobile “red line” from Syria to Ukraine, news coverage from the Middle East has been pretty scarce. It’s difficult to determine whether the civil war is winding down or not, but after the tragic murder of Father Van der Lugt earlier this month, I was glad to see this happier story: Assad pays Easter visit to recaptured Christian town.

syria-maaloulaMaaloula, a town of 5,000, is just north of Damascus and the only place where – until last year – the Western Aramaic language (the language of Jesus) was still spoken. It’s been occupied by Christians since there have been Christians.

Twice attacked by rebels last year, most of the inhabitants have fled to the capitol.
In December, Syrian rebels kidnapped at least 12 Nuns from the Greek Orthodox monastery of St Thecla ~

Syrian rebels have reportedly re-entered the historic Christian town of Maaloula, north of the country’s capital of Damascus, this week while battling forces loyal to the country’s President Bashar al-Assad. The rebel forces have been occupying the small, predominately Christian town intermittently for the past several months as they battle in the surrounding Qalamoun region. Recent reports from witnesses in Maaloula indicate that the Islamic rebels have reportedly kidnapped a group of nuns from a local monastery in the city. […]

Rebel fighters, who are attempting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad and his government, previously entered the Christian city in late September. Although the majority of rebel fighters simply want a new government to be installed in the country, some Islamic factions, including the Al-Nusra Front, are associated with hardline Islamic groups like al-Qaeda and seek to have a completely Islamic state installed in the country following the possible overthrow of al-Assad. Horror stories from Maaloula indicate some of the rebel fighters have treated the city’s Christian inhabitants violently, forcing them to convert to Islam or die.

syria-maaloula2
On March 9th, after three months in captivity, the nuns were released, reportedly as some sort of “prisoner” exchange ~

Thirteen Lebanese and Syrian nuns who were kidnapped by rebels from the historic Christian town of Maaloula in December have been released and are now returning back to Syria after traveling through Lebanon […]

… the Syrian Observatory for human Rights, a monitoring group that largely sides with the opposition, identified the rebels who took the nuns as militants from the Nusra Front, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda and one of the radical groups fighting President Bashar Assad’s forces […]

The Observatory, as well as a rebel source, said that the release of the nuns had been agreed as part of a prisoner swap with scores of women held in President Bashar al-Assad’s jails.

Then last week, the town of Maaloula was recaptured by the Syrian Armywith the help of Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters (Good grief! Are they the new “moderates?”) ~

President al-Assad announced over the weekend that he believes the recent victories on behalf of the government’s army mark a “turning point” in the three-year conflict between his regime and rebel forces.

“This is a turning point in the crisis, both militarily in terms of the army’s achievements in the war against terror, and socially in terms of national reconciliation processes and growing awareness of the truth behind the [attacks] targeting the country,” the state-run news agency Sana reported the president as saying.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
President Bashar al-Assad loosely falls into the same category as the now-deceased Libyan dicatator Muammar Gaddafi – a thug, but a predictable thug – as opposed to the crazy Islamic extremist thugs. The lesser of two evils.
Gaddafi and Assad, as well as Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak, were relatively protective of Christians living in their respective countries.
~ Six years ago – happier times in Maaloula ~
syria-maaloula-assad
The three-year-old conflict, which started as a peaceful protest movement against four decades of Assad family rule, has killed over 150,000 people and forced millions from their homes.
The town of Maaloula was heavily damaged ~
“The display of hatred was clear – the houses are totally destroyed, the whole village was destroyed. I can’t describe the amount of damage to the village,” said Lorain, a Maaloula resident in her 20s who was returning on Sunday after fleeing the fighting several months ago.
And displaced Christians dream of returning soon…
But maybe now that the O’Ministration isn’t encouraging the jihadis in that corner of the world, the Assad government seems to be gaining the upper hand, and some sort of stability may be restored in Syria.
The Diversity Deception
In the wake of this week’s Supreme Court decision upholding Michigan’s ban on affirmative action in public school admissions, brace for more stories like this one in the Detroit News: After affirmative action ruling, colleges look at ways to increase diversity.
The Left is not letting this one go without a fight. Because – you know – it should no longer matter whether the kids are qualified, prepared, or capable of doing university-level work. “Diversity” is the highest good. And if that means eliminating any sort of merit-based selection process, oh well ~
In Ann Arbor today, activists planned to rally to press the University of Michigan to drop ACT and SAT test scores from its admissions process, because some say they are inherently biased against minority test-takers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

diversitypencilsClearly, our lives would be dull without this thing called diversity. Bio-diversity is critical to abundant life on Earth. I love the diverse choices in the local market’s produce department – and in our neighborhood ice cream shop. 🙂 And I’m always inspired by a box of brightly colored pencils.

But as an artificially enforced social construct, diversity is a recipe for totalitarianism. Using race as the primary means of ranking people is inherently racist.

From a Christian perspective, it’s important to consider what God has to say on the subject ~

If diversity is such a good thing, we might expect to find much praise for it in the Bible. But the opposite seems to be the case. For example, the diversity of language visited on the people of Babel is presented in Genesis as a curse, not a blessing. More importantly, there is little if any support in the New Testament for the idea that the pursuit of diversity ought to be one of the main goals of life. On the other hand, there is much to suggest that unity is highly desirable. As Jesus, the good shepherd, tells his listeners, “And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd” (Jn 10: 16). That doesn’t sound like a call to diversity. Neither do the four passages in John 17 where Jesus prays to his Father “that they may all be one.” Viewed from a New Testament perspective, the world’s diversity of beliefs is something to be overcome, not celebrated.

Source: The Dictatorship of Diversity by William Kilpatrick (Crisis Magazine)

America’s founding principles have long appealed to a diverse group of immigrants. Vietnamese, Irish, Indians, Germans, Italians, Chinese; all left behind nations with limited freedom – or none at all – to come to the land of “e pluribus unum” (“one from many”). We are a nation which still purports to believe that all men are created equal. These immigrants didn’t arrive on our shores seeking diversity. They came for opportunity; equal opportunity for all.

mark-steyn-diversity
Our founding principles used to guarantee that anyone willing to work hard and persevere could succeed. The immigrants who stood in line to come through our front door appreciated that – and they wanted to assimilate, regardless of their country of origin, not cling to their diversity.

Yet progressives insist we must embrace diversity for its own sake.

Not only is this totally illogical in light of human nature and history, our very instinct for self-preservation resists the concept.

Diversity can be a good thing—up to a point. The point you don’t want to go beyond, as Europeans are learning, is the point at which you have to sacrifice everything good in your own culture for the sake of maintaining the illusion that all cultures and beliefs are created equal.

Source: The Dictatorship of Diversity by William Kilpatrick (Crisis Magazine)

Sweden, having taken diversity to a whole new level, is perilously close to committing nationcide by playing Eloi to the Muslim Morlocks.

Meanwhile, the Leftists soldier on ~

“We have much work to do in this area and we are dedicated to moving forward,” U-M President Mary Sue Coleman and Provost Martha E. Pollack said in a joint statement Tuesday. “We will continue to pursue all legally compliant avenues to ensure that our campuses are diverse in all the many definitions of that term.”

The “many definitions?” No, there’s only one kind of “diversity” that progressives are obsessed with: race.

And yet, that’s not something God considers at all ~

Jesus-withlittlekids

Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world.
Red or yellow, black or white;
All are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

[BTW – terms like “red” and “yellow” were never racist until progressive groupthink tried to convince us otherwise.]

Dark Matters

satanthepassionAs our American civil society continues to decay, I can’t help noticing the unholy name of Satan popping up with with growing frequency in news stories. Here are two of the most recent:

First we have a New York City-based group ~ Satanists launch campaign to stop corporal punishment in schools. This story from the Daily Caller seems weirdly incongruous. One wonders how opposition to corporal punishment suddenly became a cause célèbre for devil- worshipers… I’m guessing it’s just a attention-getting stunt ~

The Satanic Temple has officially declared May 15th as “Protect Children Day” in an effort to eradicate corporal punishment and the use of isolation rooms across the country […]

The homepage of the Satanic Temple website includes a five-pointed star and a goat-like Satan symbol. The background color is a sort of blood-spattered, obscure-KISS-album red […]

“The physical and psychological abuse of children is completely immoral. It is disturbing that no other religious organization has publicly expressed this sentiment and we sincerely hope our colleagues of other faiths will come forth to protect children from these kinds of violence and support our initiative,” (Satanic Temple spokeswoman Lucien Greaves) proclaimed.

See what I mean? Since when do Satanists have any sort of moral code?
Incidentally, this is the same civic-minded group that was planning to erect a statue of the devil at the Oklahoma state Capitol.

On the Left coast they’re a lot more overt, even pushing their deviant ideology at a Catholic (nominally at least) School: University of San Diego goes Satanic – April 10 drag show features transvestite Tootie Nefertootie ~

The drag show concluded with a student representative of USD Gay Pride thanking “the school for letting this happen…[because]…as you know some people may find this conversation uncomfortable…[however]…this is a testament to our…Catholic identity and our mission and values as a Catholic school to promote diversity and inclusion” 😯 […]

tootieFor his last diabolical selection of the evening, Tootie lip-synced the lyrics from the song “Good N’ Evil” by Linda Eder:
Tootie as devil:

Good and evil –
And their merits –
Men have argued through history –
As well they should!
My philosophy
Any child can see –
“Good is evil –
And therefore
All evil is good”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is Satan a real being? Most Americans doubt his existence – at their own peril. The Pope knows better ~
The day following the drag show, during his Friday morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis warned us that the devil still exists and that he doesn’t want anyone to follow Christ.
Exactly.
As our culture grows ever uglier, the growing boldness of those claiming Satanic allegiance is no coincidence.
Christians should be alert to the increasing threat; the devil is as real as God.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The battle against the devil, which is the principal task of Saint Michael
the archangel, is still being fought today, because the devil is still alive
and active in the world. The evil that surrounds us today, the disorders that
plague our society, man’s inconsistency and brokenness, are not only the
results of original sin, but also the result of Satan’s pervasive
and dark action.”

~ Pope John Paul II – 1987 ~

Via Dolorosa

This beautiful painting from contemporary artist Jon McNaughton is called “Via Dolorosa,” which is Latin for “Way of Suffering” and is the name for the traditional road in which Christ carried his cross to Calvary.

ViaDolorosa

This painting has over 100 figures, both good and bad, men and women that have left their footprint on Christianity. The man in the middle represents the modern Christian…a man who must decide whether or not he will stand up for his Christian beliefs. Many are shouting out to tell him what to do. He raises his hand to say, “Be silent, for I know that Jesus is the Christ!” He touches Jesus’ shoulder to indicate that he gets his strength from the Master.

Today, Christians are the most persecuted people in the entire world. Yet many of us stand idly by as we are mocked and persecuted for what we know to be true. As true Christians, we must not fear to speak the truth, even if it means we have to stand alone in the world. ~ Jon McNaughton

Visit McNaughton’s website for more information, including a detailed listing of the various personalities he’s depicted in “Via Dolorosa.

The Miracle of Christianity

“I still can’t help wondering how we can explain away what to me is the greatest miracle of all and which is recorded in history. No one denies there was such a man, that he lived and that he was put to death by crucifixion. Where … is the miracle I spoke of? Well consider this and let your imagination translate the story into our own time — possibly to your own home town.

Jesus&joseph
A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father’s shop. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father’s shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside, walking from place to place, preaching all the while, even though he is not an ordained minister. He never gets farther than an area perhaps 100 miles wide at the most. He does this for three years.

Jesus-HolyLand-smlrThen he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal, so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing — the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place for him so he is interred in a borrowed tomb.

End of story? No, this uneducated, property-less young man has, for 2,000 years, had a greater effect on the world than all the rulers, kings, emperors; all the conquerors, generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who have ever lived — all of them put together.
How do we explain that… unless He really was what He said He was?”

~ Ronald Reagan ~

Liar-in-Chief

“Every violation of truth is not only a sort of suicide in the liar,
but is a stab at the health of human society.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It appears that the vast majority of Americans have finally figured out what we conservatives have known all along: Barack Hussein Obama is a serial liar. According to a Fox News poll ~
About six in ten American voters think Barack Obama lies some or most of the time.
How often do you think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters?
Most of the time: 37%
Some of the time: 24%
Only now and then: 20%
Never: 15%
(Don’t know) 3%
obama-lies-nyt-coversup
Nice that most folks are finally getting a clue, but what does it say about the average American that they’re not outraged by having a pathological liar for a president?
It’s not a big deal because they themselves lie all the time too? Do they not want to “judge” what is bad behavior in anyone; egregious in a president of the United States? They don’t understand the implications of entrusting a thoroughly dishonest man with that much power over the lives of millions of people?
I guess if we’re simply going to allow the guy in charge of what is still the most powerful country on the planet, to continue lying on important matters most of the time – we deserve whatever dark times lie ahead.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

founders-quote-TJefferson“It is of great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible; and he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and a third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good disposition.”
