Paul Ryan’s great plan

If only Americans were ready to grow up and face the truth about the economy…
If only the MSM propaganda machine would stop lying about the fiscal train wreck that’s just around the corner…
If only everyone would read Paul Ryan’s budget proposal…
Maybe we could actually get on the “Path to Prosperity”.

Ryan does a great job here of calling out Dems” criticism for the empty rhetoric it is:

Self-Reliance – what a concept!

Yes it’s sad that America has actually reached the point where we need something called the National Self Reliance Organization. Think Katrina. But it is encouraging that this guy is doing something about it.

If you live in the Denver area you might want to check out this expo on April 9th or 10th. Details at: www.selfrelianceexpo.com. Bring the kids.

What are we fighting for again?

This piece by Patrick J. Buchanan at CNS News, asks “Who Are We Fighting For?“. We also need to ask “what are we fighting for?” So a bunch of barbarians can continue slaughtering innocent people in response to a lone-wacko stunt on on the other side of the planet? So a twisted ideology that seeks to convert, subjugate or kill anyone who opposes it can continue its murderous rampage?

In the last two years, Christians have been burned alive by Muslims in Gorja, Pakistan, and by Hindu extremists in Orissa, India. Christian churches have been torched and scores of the faithful massacred on holy days in Iraq and Egypt. Few of these atrocities have received the media attention of the Rev. Jones’ stupid stunt or the Danish cartoonist’s irreverent scribbles.

Before America sends more of her sons to die for the freedom of Arabs and Muslims, perhaps we ought to have a better idea of what these folks intend to do with that freedom. For across that Muslim world, the faith that created our world, Christianity, is being persecuted and in some sectors annihilated.

Hey Pat, I think they just want the freedom to keep killing. The Religion of Peace website keeps a running body count(here.)

Might be time to start fighting for the survival of Western civilization.

When life hands you lemons

You gotta love this kid’s spirit. She couldn’t get a horse, so she used her cow instead. Now that’s initiative!

FEAR… Whatever we tell you to fear

The Left would have us ignore the massive debt crisis, the threat from radical Islam, looming inflation, the breakdown of the American family and society in general – basically any number of real issues. But they do need to keep us in a state of heightened anxiety over pseudo calamities. You know, so we’ll continue to clamor for big government solutions to the latest phony crisis.

“Warning! Just about everything will kill you” from Alan Caruba at RenewAmerica discusses a couple of recent books that are sounding the false alarms on the latest threats to life and limb that we all face on a daily basis. Quick! Panic! Now!

Or calm down… and realize that the average U.S. citizen, born in 1911, had a life expectancy  of 52 years. One hundred years later that number is 78. Oh dear, however will we survive?

From a subject of the Monarchy of Untruth

Victor Davis Hanson, in his “Kingdom of Lies” post, beautifully articulates why so many of us feel that America has become a reality-free zone –

In this kingdom of lies, this Oceania of the mind, I, a subject of the monarchy of untruth, navigate carefully, assuming what I read and see is simply not true — and cannot be said to be untrue.

Is Gen. Petraeus a Muslim?

When Gen. Petraeus says things like this:

“The Quran burning in Florida was “hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant.”

… about Florida pastor Terry Jones burning a Koran, I’m starting to wonder if he might not be a closet Muslim. I mean, those are the very terms that Islam uses to condemn anything they don’t like about the West. Even Pres. Obama, to his dubious credit, and only after mouthing the requisite “bigotry” and “intolerance”, said this:

“to attack and kill innocent people in response is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity.”

…referring to the murders of up to 20 U.N. staffers by an unruly mob in Afghanistan.

I don’t recall Gen. Petraeus characterizing the massacre of 10 Afghan aid workers back in August of 2010 as “hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant.” He may have, but I don’t remember seeing it if he did. And I’m pretty sure he didn’t offer an opinion on this story out of Gaza, which the MSM virtually ignored. If he can’t or won’t see the truth for what is is, maybe someone needs to check the General’s office for a prayer rug.

“Some things are just right or wrong. Some things are just good or evil. Some evil people commit acts of barbarism because they want to. Unlike President Obama and his fellow travelers, I refuse to excuse it and I refuse to ignore that reality.”

Open Doors Daily Devotionals

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21)

I’ve subscribed to Open Doors Daily Devotionals for over a year now and have found them to truly be an inspirational way to start each day. Interspersed with scripture, each message shares a story about Christians throughout the world who suffer persecution for their faith. The 2011 series, “Standing Strong Through the Storm”, is exceptional and I wanted to share today’s selection which illustrates the powerful impact that God’s word can have in our everyday lives:

GOD’S WORD REVEALED

Daniel, a Chinese Christian living in Singapore, sat in the chair still shaking his head in unbelief. He had just returned from his first extensive visit to the People’s Republic of China. Now in the freedom of his home city, he was trying to assimilate and communicate all the impressions and messages he had received.

“How would you summarize what you learned on your visit, Daniel?” I asked him. He continued to shake his head and smile.

Finally he began to speak. “Probably by my visit to one particular house church,” he slowly replied. “It numbers several hundred believers who have had a lot of persecution over the past years. I asked them how they had been victorious and even grown in numbers during such terrible experiences. They quickly replied, telling me three things,” he continued. “First, obedience to the Word of God; second, communication with God, that is, prayer. And third, love for the brothers and sisters.”

This group memorized one chapter of the Bible every week. They began doing this because of a lack of Bibles, but continued doing so after they realized the blessing it brought to their lives.

The Bible is God’s written revelation of Himself and His desire for a relationship with people. It is more than just a revelation of God’s character. It is also a revelation of His intricate plan for the world. We could never have understood our great God if He had not chosen to reveal Himself.

His greatest revelation of Himself was when He came to live among us in a human body and was known as Jesus Christ. But even our knowledge of that revelation depends upon His written Word, the Bible.

Satan has conducted a massive propaganda campaign in the last century in an attempt to discredit the Bible. He would love to see Christians lose faith in the Word of God. In spite of his efforts, however, no one has ever been able to disprove its reliability. It remains the only absolute truth known to humankind.

The Bible is our God-given basis for faith, doctrine and practice. Many times Christians have knowingly departed from its teachings and suffered because of doing so. Many times when Christians depart from the Word, it is because they do not know or understand it.

The church can only be true to the revealed Word of God when its people know what it teaches. Study of God’s Word is an essential part of the Christian life. When Christians doubt, ignore or fail to understand the teachings of Scripture and depart from its principles, they lose their spiritual power.

RESPONSE
Today I will recommit to the daily study and application of God’s Word, the Bible.

PRAYER
Pray for believers in many parts of the world who still yearn for a copy of the Bible.

You can sign up for Open Doors daily emails here. I believe you’ll be as humbled, awestruck and inspired by the strong faith of these Christians as I am.

Alice in Wonderbra Land

If it’s gotta be bad news, I want to hear it from Mark Steyn – so I can laugh through my tears: Pushing Deviancy Up.

…we believe in nothing except the most transitory and dreary self-gratification, an endless adolescence that begins with a push-up bra at eight and continues through free government condoms for 30-year olds.

Detroit’s Demise

As a follow-up to my “Our Sunday adventure in Motown” post, here’s William McGurn at the Wall Street Journal with A Requiem for Detroit.

America, Detroit is your canary in the mine; this is where our country’s headed. Discourage entrepreneurship and squeeze out the private sector through destructive government policies, bloat the government and voila: Obamatopia.
I do think Mr. McGurn left out a key factor in Detroit’s demise, maybe the most important one. As someone who has witnessed it first hand over the last few decades, I believe the decline started when the denizens of Detroit decided to cling to government instead of God.
