“Fast & Furious” and the Department of Perverted Justice

While the network news outlets have all been busy seducing the easily distracted masses with their wall-to-wall coverage of the sad Casey Anthony saga, the “Fast & Furious” scandal, a cause for real public outrage, has been unfolding. It’s a story that the msm would be on like white-on-rice if a Republican administration was involved.

Back in 2009 the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – a division of the Justice Department) began implementing the ill-conceived “Operation Fast & Furious”. It turned out to be a disaster and is currently under investigation in Congress by Representative Darrell Issa (Committee on Oversight and Government Reform) and Senator Charles Grassley (Senate Judiciary Committee).

Also known as “Project Gunwalker”, the basic facts of the operation are:
The plan – Have legal U.S. gun dealers knowing sell assault weapons to “strawmen” – go-betweens – who would then re-sell the guns to Mexican drug cartels. In effect, the ATF was forcing the gun dealers to break the law; all they were told to do was record the serial numbers as the weapons were walking out the door. The theory behind this genius idea was that identification of the guns, when they later turned up at crime scenes (next to dead bodies!) on either side of the border, would “create a ‘nexus’ between the drug cartels and the straw purchasers.

The result – A bunch of dead people, including Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, and few bad guys apprehended.

From day one Operation Fast & Furious created a rift within the ATF (obviously between the rational and the irrational). John Hinderaker at Powerline reports on the internal tension at the Bureau:

Many ATF agents were appalled by, and rebelled against, Fast and Furious. They predicted that guns the agency had purposely allowed to get into the hands of a drug cartel would inevitably be used to commit crimes of violence, potentially against law enforcement officers. But their complaints were suppressed by higher-ups in ATF and DOJ.

The weapons that were permitted to be smuggled into Mexico under Fast and Furious contributed to the drug violence there. According to ATF agents who testified, that made ATF officials “giddy.” One agent recounted a conversation with an ATF higher-up in which he asked, “are you prepared to go to a border agent’s funeral over this or a Cochise County deputy’s over this, because that’s going to happen.” Her response, in a chilling echo of Lenin, was that “if you are going to make an omelette, you need to scramble some eggs.”

The inevitable occurred on December 14, 2010, when Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered by a group of illegal aliens near Rio Rico, Arizona. Two AK-47-type weapons found at the scene had serial numbers that showed they were bought by a straw purchaser named Jaime Avila, whose identity as such had been known to ATF since November 2009.

It gets better. It now appears that at least a portion of $10,000,000 in stimulus funds were used to finance this failed program (our tax dollars at work!). From Hillbuzz:

‘For an additional amount for ‘State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance’, $40,000,000, for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, of which $10,000,000 shall be transferred to ‘Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Salaries and Expenses’ for the ATF Project Gunrunner.’
~ from Open Congress ~
[Operation Fast & Furious/Project Gunwalker is part of “Gunrunner”]

Even more ominous is the suggestion being made by many in the blogosphere that DOJ was well aware that Operation Fast & Furious had little chance of success from the beginning, and that they implemented the program with an entirely different goal in mind:
ATF agents testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee could not explain how the operation was supposed to succeed when their surveillance efforts stopped at the border and interdiction was never an option.

According to Bob Owens at Pajamas Media, it’s highly probable that –

…Gunwalker’s objective was never intended to be a “legitimate law enforcement interest.” Instead, it appears that ATF Acting Director Ken Melson and Department of Justice senior executives specifically created an operation that was designed from the outset to arm Mexican narco-terrorists and increase violence substantially along both sides of the Southwest border.

Apparently DOJ and ATF were perfectly willing to “scramble some eggs” …and then take advantage of the inevitable resultant chaos to push for more gun control. And in fact, even while Congressional investigations are ongoing – and the Department of Justice is attempting to cover-up their involvement – the White House Plans to Release New Gun Safety Measures ‘in the Near Future’.

The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions — and not an actual bill — are expected to be handed to Congress.

Unbelievable. This is a huge story that’s turning out to be a major scandal but the msm is barely paying attention. At least Fox News had some coverage. Here’s a video: ATF gun scandal

…“a troubling story on so many levels”. Ya think? Just imagine how furious the msm would be if this debacle had “the Bush Administration” attached to it.

On the other hand – imagine how much fun it would be to actually watch this happen: 🙂

AMERIKA so far…

Just one question ~ After 18 more months of this tyranny,
will we have a country left to reclaim?

Are American Jews finally waking up to the fact that Obama is no friend of Israel?

Gateway Pundit, and several other sites are reporting on Dick Morris’ assertion that Barack Obama is losing support among U.S. Jews. Guess it’s just getting harder and harder to dismiss the evidence that the current administration doesn’t particularly like the only democracy in the Middle East. I mean when ICE adds Israel to the Department of Homeland Security terrorist watch list… huh?! Oh. Oops – that was just little mistake. 🙄

We might be tempted to buy that baloney if, at the same time, the State Department wasn’t trying to make all nice with the Muslim Brotherhood: That would be the same international Islamist organization that has the destruction of the United States, Israel and all other parts of the Free World as its explicit objective. Their mission? Our demise:

“A kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within, sabotaging its miserable house with their [i.e., Americans’] hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” (Source: Muslim Brotherhood’s “Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goals of the Group,” entered into evidence by the Department of Justice in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism-finance trial. Archived at the NEFA Foundation.)

Check out “Embracing the Muslim Brotherhood” at the Jerusalem Connection Report to learn the various phases of their plan.

If U.S. Jews are at last seeing Obama’s true colors when it comes to Israel, it’s a little late in the day. But welcome to the club! Hopefully enlightenment is not too late for 2012.

One-Dimensional History

Here, from Newsbusters, we have Douglas Brinkley (“historian”) and John Donovan (journocrat) on ABC’S “This Week”; two men whose cognitive reasoning skills have never advanced beyond the tween years, generously sharing with us their Independence Day analysis of America’s founding documents…

First, let’s get past the straw man they’ve thrown up to attack:

Democrats and Republicans quote from the Founding Fathers, but we shouldn’t act like they were somehow omnipotent. (Brinkley)

(the framers) were not gods, they were guys (Donovan)

Thanks boys. We know. No one on the conservative side of the aisle has ever claimed or “acted like” any human being is omnipotent. And the founding fathers understood the fallible, darker side of human nature better than liberals ever will.

Donovan continued:

…guys (the framers) who didn’t give women the vote* and let slavery** stand for the time being

Therefore whatever else those “guys” may have said, written or accomplished must be discredited? Only if you live in the Brinkley-Donovan reality-free zone.

Way back in the 15th century Renaissance artists refined the concept of perspective in their works. They recognized that similar objects (people, trees, buildings) were pretty much the same size when placed side by side. But when an object was put behind another one, it receded – appearing smaller to the human eye. As a means of capturing this visual phenomenon, the artists began to employ linear perspective to great effect. Defining a point(s) for converging lines, they were able to create wonderful illusion of depth on a two-dimensional surface and produce a vision much closer to reality.

School of Athens (c.1510) ~ Raphael

I don’t know how well Brinkley and Donovan grasp the principle of visual perspective, but they sure have a tough time with historical perspective. Like children drawing one-dimensional stick figures, all their subjects are lined up on the same historical plane – and judged accordingly. (I can imagine these two behind the scenes, mocking the fashion trends of the 18th century as well – “Look at those silly wigs – ha-ha!”.)

The purpose of studying history is not to look back with disdain at previous centuries. Events must be analyzed from the proper perspective, not simply plucked out of context and contrasted with our present knowledge and social mores. Not condemned out-of-hand without considering the values and conditions unique to a particular time.

As we mature, most of us move beyond the “Boy, people sure were stupid 1000 years ago – they thought the world was flat!” stage. But Brinkley and Donovan and their fellow Lefties, for all their feigned sophisticated superiority, are stuck in that myopic adolescent phase of looking at history, unable – or unwilling to apply any perspective.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I’m not sure, speaking as a woman, that you can make the case that women’s suffrage was an altogether positive development (Can you say “Nanny State”?). But that’s a subject for another day.
**Understanding the contentions over the slavery issue, the founders believed it was more important to unite in the revolutionary cause, while at the same time providing for future abolition within the framework of the Constitution.
Slavery is still found throughout the world, even in the enlightened 21st century (like Leftists actually care).
Foolish flying atheists
What is it with atheists that compels them to share their message of hopelessness with the rest of us? Misery loves company?
Over the 4th of July weekend the American Atheists decided it would be fun to rain on everyone’s parades by flying planes over various locations pulling banners reading “God-less America,” and “Atheism is patriotic.” Not sure how many people were subjected to their unhappy slogans, but the good news is that they were at least partially grounded because many of the pilots chose to pass on the assignment. Only 17 of Fly Signs Aerial Advertising’s 85 pilots agreed to participate.
Here’s a great quote from one of the pilots, Red Calvert (as reported in USA Today):
“I respect our country and I respect our churches and we’ve got enough problems in our country without stirring up some more. If those people want to do something they believe in, fine, just don’t include me.”
Amen Red!
Heads up Tea Party People…
…And anyone else who understands that we have to restore some fiscal sanity to our federal government: We all need to sign the Cut, Cap & Balance Pledge.
Raising the debt ceiling without condition will only enable Congress to go on spending like drunken sailors (– the party’s over boys!). The pledge isn’t a detailed plan, rather it lays out three simple, common sense maxims that our elected representatives would agree to follow before they even consider any increase in the debt limit;
1.) substantially cutting spending immediately,
2.) capping it going forward, and;
3.) adopting a balanced-budget amendment with strict tax and spending limitations
Read Tim Phillips’ (of Americans for Prosperity) & Phil Kerpen’s article for a brief overview of why the pledge is so necessary and what it hopes to accomplish: Cut, Cap, and Balance ~ A path to fiscal responsibility.
So sign the Pledge (After signing, you’re automatically provided with the email addresses of you local reps. Notify them as well, regardless of their party affiliation.). And please pass this message on – let’s make sure Congress knows we’re fed up with them acting like chickens!
Liberty or Tyranny? (Here we go again?)
[That last line always gives me the chills. Is there anyone in Congress today with the courage and convictions of those 56 brave men?]
Listed in between the introduction and the conclusion of the Declaration of Independence are the numerous grievances the colonies held against the King of England. Many of them sound vaguely, even disturbingly, similar to the actions/attitudes of our current King (– oops!) President.
I’m just saying…
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended legislation:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
~~~~~
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

So 235 years later, what are We the People living under today? Liberty or Tyranny?

Don’t be duped – Jesus is no collectivist

Religious Left leader Rev. Jim Wallis and his ilk would have us believe that Jesus Christ is some sort of socialist utopian. According to their philosophy, Christians should happily support the concept of the government stealing from one segment of the population, wasting most of that wealth, and passing out whatever is left to the rest of the peasants? We, who are free in Christ, should willingly enslave ourselves (and others) to the state?

Not if we understand scripture and its message of salvation. First and foremost, Jesus’ “kingdom is not of this world”. Consider the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

Who is telling us, actually, that all worldly problems should and can be solved? Perhaps for God the unsolved nature of these problems is more important than their solution – namely, because it points to the original sin of the human race and to God’s redemption. Perhaps the problems of humanity are so involved, so wrongly stated, that they really are unsolvable…The thinking that starts with human problems and looks for solutions on that basis must be overcome. It is unbiblical.

Socialism in its numerous and varied incarnations purports to solve all the world’s problems. Instead of understanding human nature and establishing a system of governance accordingly, it attempts to change it the very nature of humans. Wherever it exists, past and present, it can’t help but be atheistic, certainly “unbiblical” – seeking to replace God with the state.

Socialism has never worked as advertised, and it never will. Dr. Michael Youssef does a great job of explaining why Rev. Wallis’ freelance version of Christianity is so warped:

The Christian gospel is a message of salvation, not a message of income redistribution and raising our neighbor’s taxes. Jesus said that the way to serve the poor is by giving generously of our own resources…
…The Religious Left is very generous — with other people’s money.

Jesus didn’t tell the rich young ruler to become a political activist and affect public policy. He said, “Go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Dr. Youssef’s article: Keep Jesus Out of Your Socialism, is in 3 parts, though not too lengthy overall, and definitely well worth the read.

To use the name of Christ to advance a socialist ideology is to abuse His name.

Amen

Science – Inspired by God’s Design

Back in 1941, Swiss electrical engineer George de Mestral came back from a walk in the woods with his dog to find burrs stuck on both his clothes and the dog. Curious about the little fuzz balls’ ability to cling so tenaciously, he examined them under a microscope. Noting their “hook-like” structure and the way it attached to anything with “loops” – fabric, fur – inspired him to invent Velcro.

Fast forward to the 21st century and we now have an entire field of science devoted to biomimetics – the imitation of nature. Creation-Evolution Headlines frequently spotlights the latest studies and the real life applications that researchers are discovering:

Ever since biomimetics gradually emerged around 2002 and really took off in 2005, it has not slowed down…
…The reports have accelerated in recent years to the point where there is only space for short summaries that give a taste of the wide variety of engineering work taking inspiration from plants, animals, and even cells.

A recent CEH post lists a wide range of new design and inventions inspired by God’s creation – hummingbird flight, gecko feet, soil-dwelling bacteria, Gila monster saliva… Follow the Leader: Nature

In this world of bad news and Darwin bigotry, it’s nice to find some good news to report: useful products inspired by nature, promising a better life, showing the wisdom of the Creator, amazing us all with wonders around us, and returning academia to real science that is 100% Darwin-free. The Darwin bigots will die off eventually. Bioinspiration and bioengineering is science for the rest of us, who need a rest from intolerance and bad news. 🙂

Obama giveth, and Obama taketh away

While President Obama ramps up the class warfare rhetoric as a prelude to the 2012 election, yesterday it was time to demonize the corporate jet crowd:

“I think it’s only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well,” the president stated at one point, “to give up that tax break that no other business enjoys.”

Just one problem, as Heritage’s Foundry reminds us, the corporate jet tax break that the One was referring to was actually just put into his own stimulus package: Obama Blasts Private Jet Tax Breaks Created by His Own Stimulus. Oops!

So the president’s statement today – and his call to repeal that tax break generally – is either a tacit admission that the stimulus included projects that did not, in fact, stimulate the economy, or an attempt to “soak the rich” without regard for the policy’s effects on the economy.

Is the Prez just totally clueless? Or does he know the msm will either totally ignore the facts, or provide cover as needed, so he just doesn’t care?

The “Diversity” Deception

“Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one’s thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down.” ~ Frederick Douglass ~

Ah “diversity” – the word the Left glommed onto to force traditional American society to accept foreign ideologies. They needed to convince us that all worldviews are legitimate and equally valid. By pretending that it wasn’t nice to be discerning in which value system you adopt.

And now that their dishonest strategy has been so successful with large segments of the population, the Juedeo-Christian values that America was founded on are increasing marginalized as extremist. And we’re realizing that all along they may have meant “diversity” of race and gender, but they never meant “diversity” of thought.

Just ask Frank Turek, formerly a vendor with Cisco, who was fired for his conservative positions on sex and marriage, even though he never expressed his beliefs on the job: Sex at Work?

They tell the world that they value and encourage “different perspectives, styles, thoughts, and ideas” while they punish or intimidate into silence people who have “different perspectives, styles, thoughts, and ideas.” While Cisco executives would never admit this, their actions reveal this twisted truth: Cisco values homosexual behavior more than honesty, freedom of religion and freedom of conscience.

Or ask Glen Beck, who can’t spend time with his family in a public park without being hassled and intimidated: Beck & Family Harassed During Outdoor Movie Night in NYC Park

“We hate conservatives here!”

Yes, of course you do.

Because the real truth is, when it comes to worldviews, the Left can’t tolerate diversity.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ann Coulter has a good post about the anti-diversity park people here.
We conservatives really need to start standing up to the Left’s intolerance. Because, as Frank Turek (paraphrasing Edmund Burke) says at the end of his article:
“All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.” It’s time to do something—speak up.
