Mobocracy Indoctrination

As further evidence that California public schools have gone off the rails, the Oakland Education Association decided to throw their support behind the Occupy protest: School will be cancelled in Oakland because the teachers don’t like U.S. tax policy! And you can just bet they’ll want to be paid for shirking their responsibility.

Even more outrageous, now they want to get their students on-board with the OWS movement. American Thinker reports on a new teaching guide that’s turned up in a Santa Cruz elementary school: Occupying the Minds of Our Youth. Published by the Morningstar Center, a leftie organization that teaches “social responsibility,” it’s entitled “Considering Democracy in Occupy Wall Street,” recommended for grades 4-7. It should be sub-titled: “Redistribution 101″…

Occupy Wall Street is a group of activists who want to change the way money, wealth, and income are distributed in the U.S. They want to change the fact that there is a very big difference between how much money and wealth rich and poor people have. Also, they want to make our country more democratic so that even people with little money and power can have more of a voice.

Part of the lesson plan has the teachers asking “What are your ideas for making our class more democratic?”

A suggested list of acceptable answers includes:
• Decide what we will learn in class and make curricula decisions.
• Create the classroom rules and consequences as a group.
• Have a student council in the class to create and enforce rules.
• Students decide the menu for school lunch.
• Have students take turns teaching the class.

Not only would they have the inmates running the asylum, the teachers and administrators expect the kids to do their jobs?

As Missouri Education Watchdog puts it;

Way to go, teachers. Don’t give the kids a balanced look at the Occupy movement and present all sides of the debate. That would be too fair and downright educational. Instead you’re going to present your point of view as the correct point of view, and allow students to leave your classroom believing your words are gospel.

How would the unions react if a public school teacher gave daily lessons about Dick Cheney’s plan for America, and how he was right about every issue? Do you think labor leaders would object to that?

Parents send their children to school to learn the fundamentals – not to be indoctrinated into any political movement.

Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts,
and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet
that did not commit suicide.”

Firebombed by Intolerance

The Religion of Perpetual Outrage strikes again, this time in France. Seems “Charlie Hebdo,” a French satirical magazine, was getting ready to publish an issue featuring Muhammad as the guest editor-in-chief (in “honor” of the Arab Spring)…

“100 lashes if you are not dying of laughter.”

Predictably, some of the less-peaceful elements in the French-Muslim community were highly offended, and felt moved to express their outrage by firebombing “Charlie Hebdo’s” office. Luckily, no one was injured in the early morning arson attack yesterday morning, but they won’t be publishing from those premises any time soon. The magazine’s website was also hacked: “Be Allah’s curse upon you!”

Although satire has been a part of Western literary expression for a couple thousand years, particularly as a form of political criticism, radical Muslims now expect us to cease and desist from that tradition. According to their 14th century Islamic cultural beliefs, satirizing Mohammed is punishable by injury, property damage and occasionally, even death.
“Charlie Hebdo” had the temerity to stand up for the Western principle of free speech, and suffered the consequences. However, the magazine is considering this a temporary setback:

“We cannot, today, put together a paper,” said Charb (the magazine’s editor-in-chief). “But we will do everything possible to do one next week. Whatever happens, we’ll do it. There is no question of giving in,” he said, adding that the magazine is filing a legal complaint against persons unkown.

“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you
will find things only evil and inhuman…God is not pleased by blood –
and not acting reasonable is contrary to God’s nature.”

Operation Christmas Child

Looking for a meaningful way to help spread the Good News about Jesus and help a needy child during the Christmas season this year? Samaritan’s Purse’ “Operation Christmas Child” is a great way to do that. Our teenage son even gets into the spirit and enjoys dashing around the local super-mart finding things “for my little guy.”

“The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love
in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the
local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.”

Izabella McMillion was 13 when she received an Operation Christmas Child
shoe box gift in communist Romania. Now, she is packing boxes for
other children who need to know God’s love.

~~~~~~~
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has distributed the shoe boxes to over 86 million children in 130 different nations.
It’s fun, and easy to get involved. Click on the banner ad on the left for directions. You chose whether to buy for a boy or a girl, and pick from three different age groups. Once your box is packed, wrapped and ready to go, you just drop it off at one of the collection locations, between November 14th and the 21st. After Samaritan’s Purse has distributed all the boxes, you can go back online and find out which country yours was sent to.
Operation Christmas Child is an activity you should consider adding to your holiday traditions. Not only will it warm the heart of a child – it will warm your’s as well. 🙂
Darn “Squirrely” Priorities
OK – what’s wrong with this picture? I’ve had to put off a root canal for several months since we don’t have dental coverage and the out-of-pocket cost was between $1,500 and $2,000. Finally had the work finished up today; one dentist, no assistants. (I was in the chair an hour – took a few minutes to get my mouth to closed again!)
So, while waiting for the Novocain to wear off, I come across this video of a squirrel monkey at the San Diego Zoo getting, of all things… a root canal!
Life support monitors, state-of-art facility, medical team of four – all free!
Good grief! Why monkey around? Just pull the darn tooth!
Don’t get me wrong, I love animals. But while tax revenues in San Diego are going to support free squirrel-monkey-care at the zoo, how many taxpayers in that city (and state) are unable to afford dental care for their own human teeth??
Sioux Sue NCAA
I always suspected that Native Americans were, at best, neutral on the whole Indian-names-for-sports-teams debate. After all, we never saw them at the forefront of any protest feigning insult and demanding that the Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Indians get new names and mascots. That was always the perennially-offended Leftist PC crowd.
Well now it turns out that at least one tribe is downright upset that the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) has arbitrarily decided the University of North Dakota “Fighting Sioux” must ditch their nickname: Tribe sues NCAA to let school use name…
Tribal attorney Reed Soderstrom said the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court challenges the NCAA’s policy banning the use of Native American names and imagery by collegiate athletic teams.
He said the suit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association was brought on behalf of more than 1,004 members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe “in direct response to their attempt to take away and prevent the North Dakota Sioux Indians from giving their name forever to the University of North Dakota” despite a tribal vote in 2009 and a “sacred and religious spiritual ceremony” by tribal leaders in 1969 that granted “perpetual use” of the name to the school…
“the NCAA has unilaterally decided that the name ‘Fighting Sioux’ is derogatory to the very people who feel honored by the name — the North Dakota Sioux tribes.”
You really can’t make this stuff up. But it’s just another classic example of Progressive’s illogic.
Sure glad the Sioux are fighting back against this foolishness.
Obama gets an “F” in reducing poverty
Star Parker is a woman who’s been on both sides of a welfare check, which makes her well-qualified to know what’s effective when it comes to helping people out of poverty, and what isn’t. And Obama’s policies aren’t; hence the “F”.
In the video below, Parker talks with Reason TV (source: Breitbart’s Big Government), explaining that the “rules” of welfare: don’t work, don’t save, don’t get marrieddon’t work – they just keep people “enslaved.” The key to fiscal responsibility is moral responsibility.
Without a moral compass…short of that, you cannot define right from wrong. We want to make sure that they have a moral framework built inside them.
Parker’s organization “CURE” (Center for Urban Renewal & Education) and “Poverty Cure” (which I wrote about last week) are both advocating solutions grounded in real-world experience. And the common verb “cure” is a perfect representation of their similar missions, they want to help eradicate poverty. The Left merely wants to treat the symptoms, generally worsening the disease in the process.
If President Obama was willing to take a few lessons from these people, perhaps he could bring his “grade” up.
Wright is Right: “Get a CCW”
Sounds like Sheriff Chuck Wright, of Spartanburg, SC, is cut from the same cloth as Arizona’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio. That would be the fabric of no-nonsense law enforcement. These two understand that their primary responsibility is to keep the bad guys from harming the good guys. And they take that responsibility seriously.
From WYFF4.com (South Carolina):
The Spartanburg County Sheriff is known for speaking his mind, and at a news conference on Monday, he didn’t hold back his anger and frustration after a woman was attacked in a park over the weekend.
Investigators said 46-year-old Walter Lance grabbed a woman who was walking her dog in Milliken Park on Sunday afternoon. They said Lance choked the woman, made her take off her clothing and tried to rape her.
The perpetrator was a repeat offender with more than 20 charges dating back to 1983. And Sheriff Wright is understandably fed up:
“Our form of justice is not making it.”
“I don’t think this animal deserves to be out in our society, walking alongside our women.”
“I am tired of looking at victims and saying ‘we’re sorry, we’ve done our best to get them in jail.'”
“Ladies, get a concealed weapons permit.”
“‘Gun control’ is when you can get your barrel back on the target quick.”
Watch out Sheriff, those are fighting words to the Left. You’ve got to know they’re “gunning” for you. In the minds of the Left, the law-breakers among us have more rights than the average law-abiding citizen. Moral certainty like the Sheriff’s is a direct threat to their moral relativism.
You Have a Soul!
For Christians, November 1st has traditionally marked the Festival of All Saints (or All Saints’ Day); on that day we remember with thanksgiving those who have lived and died in the faith. The custom of commemorating all the martyrs of the Church on a single day goes back to at least the third century. All Saints’ Day celebrates not only the martyrs and saints, but all the people of God, living and dead, who together form the mystical body of Christ.
This festival recalls the richness of Christian history and the varied examples of God’s grace. The lives of the saints represent our hope. And are an image of the glory we shall inherit.
All Saints Day is also an important reminder that we were created as eternal beings; that our life here is only temporary ~
Hey, you! Human Being! You have a soul! See that you don’t lose it, that you don’t wake up one day from the frenzy of life – professional and private life – and see that you have become hollow inside, a plaything of events, a leaf driven back and forth and blown away by the wind; that you are without a soul. Human being, pay attention to your soul!
What are we to say about that soul? It is the life that God has given us; it is what God has loved about us, what he – from his eternity – has touched. It is love in us and longing and holy restlessness and responsibility and happiness and pain; it is divine breath breathed into mortal being. Human being, you have a soul!
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer ~
Ryan: “Our rights come from God and nature – not from government”
Check out Paul Ryan’s recent interview with the Heritage Foundation:
Highlights:
• American principles, as handed down by the founders, are liberty, freedom, free enterprise and self-determination.
• Obama’s class warfare and demagoguery is disappointing. (To put it mildly!)
• Large entrenched bureaucracy, fueled by cronyism, is erecting barriers against the entrepreneurial society.
• It’s unconscionable that, in the midst of a fiscal crisis, our government has just decided not to budget for the next couple of years.
We need to hear these messages louder, and a lot more frequently, preferably on the floor of Congress.
Norway’s Multicultural Affliction
Tolerance is the virtue of a man without convictions. ~ G.K.Chesterton ~
Norway regularly shows up on the U.N.’s list of the world’s best places to live. Land of fijords and the Northern Lights, the country is certainly one of the most beautiful places on earth (just search Google Images for “Norway”). And it ranks near the top of any survey that give high marks for such fuzzy-feeling criteria as “human development”, “work-life balance”, “environment” and “life satisfaction.” Happy socialism 🙂
Their Viking past – now ancient history – has been replaced by an egalitarian society that embraces the charming notions of mutual respect and tolerance. Crime has typically been very low; it was rated the most peaceful country in the world in a 2007 survey by Global Peace Index. Sounds rather like an Eloi utopia…
But before you chuck it all for a one-way ticket to the land of the Midnight Sun, you should know that things aren’t quite so peaceful lately – at least in the capitol city of Oslo. Seems they have a growing problem with… sexual assaults. Bruce Bawer at Front Page Magazine reports on Oslo’s Epidemic of Rape. And the majority of the perpetrators appear to be… get ready for it… representatives of the Religion of Peace.
Between 2006 and 2010 there were 86 rapes reported in Oslo, a city of some 1,500,000. This may not seem like an “epidemic”, however;
…not so very many years ago, Oslo was virtually a rape-free city…
…And there have already been twice as many rape assaults in the city so far this year as there were in all of 2010.
According to this video; every rape in Oslo the past 5 years, where the rapist could be identified, was committed by a male of non-western background.
(video transcript from May 2011 Oslo Newscast)
This girl was raped by a man of Pakistani heritage.
She is an ethnic Norwegian as are almost all victims who are assaulted and then raped.
“He said, that he had the right to do exactly as he wanted to a woman”
Why? “Because that is how it was in his religion.”
“Women did not have rights or opinions, he was in charge.”
Yep, sounds like the religion of peace to me.
Unfortunately, the naive all-cultures-are equally-worthy philosophy that the country espouses, leaves them ill-prepared to deal with this recent crime wave; law-enforcement is seriously underfunded. The scandalous fact is that Norway, for all its wealth, has chosen not to invest overmuch in law and order. The very idea is simply too reactionary-sounding for the ’68-ers and their heirs in the political and bureaucratic corridors of power. “See no evil…”
As Bawer sums up, until the authorities begin to take the welfare of law-abiding citizens as seriously as they take the welfare of criminal foreigners, the problem will only grow worse. And until Norwegians, and the rest of the west, come to terms with the impossibility of co-existence with radical Islam, this cultural clash of civilizations will rage on.
Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil. ~ Thomas Mann ~
Related:
I’m not sure if Norway’s radical Islamic infestation is what caused that homegrown wacko, Anders Behring Breivik, to snap last summer or not. Nothing could possibly justify his horrific actions. But the pseudo-Christian did refer to the murders he committed as “systematical and organized executions of multiculturalist traitors.”
Terrorism must unequivocally be condemned for the cowardly inhuman crime that it is, regardless of the ideology behind it. And ironically, in the case of the Norwegian Terrorist, whatever his twisted motives may have been, he no doubt scored a major victory for his opponents. As Klein Verzet (aka “Fijordman”) points out:
Breivik will find that whatever he intended…
…An agent provocateur seeking to discredit the right-wing conservative sliver of the European political spectrum would have a hard time doing a better job. It is the perfect excuse to persecute and silence opposing voices… We’re heading for dark days.
A Little Halloween Diversion
Because make-believe scary is a lot more fun than real life scary
Witches flying past on broomsticks,
Black cats leaping here and there,
White-robed spooks on every corner,
Mournful moaning in the air,
Goblins peering out of windows,
Spirit-things that rap and run-
But don’t be scared-it’s just October,
Having one last hour of fun!
