All together now… Awwwwwww 🙂

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Priest given community service for ringing church bells ~ “Disturbing the peace” in Poland. One-sided article paints Father Wrobel as “malicious.” Hmmm… wonder what the real story is?
Violence and the Decline of Faith ~ Sober commentary by Fr. Dwight Longenecker on our ever coarsening culture. (Maybe if there were more church bells ringing…)
Sex-Selection in America: Part 4 – Undercover in Hawaii ~ Video exposing how Planned Parenthood has no moral qualms at all about selective sex abortions. From ProtectOurGirls.org. The site includes a petition you can sign that calls for a nationwide ban on the unethical practice of sex-selection abortion in America.
Syrian Atrocities Condemned While Slaughter of Nigerian Christians Ignored ~ The MSM is all over the stories of civilian deaths in Syria, but the ongoing tragedy in Nigeria… crickets.
Iraq has been anything but peaceful for Christians in that country since the U.S. troop draw-down ~ Chaldean Archbishop (northern Iraq): “True Christianity Is a Persecuted Christianity.” Anything on the network news? Zip.
And what about South Sudan where Sudanese army is trying to bomb the primarily Christian, Nuba Mountain people, out of existence? Nada.
Unfortunately for the persecuted Christians in these countries, there’s no liberal political capital to be gained for the Obama administration in reporting on their suffering.

Women Don’t Belong in Ranger School ~ Excellent opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal by Stephen Kilcullen:
…the military does not exist to provide careers. It is a responsibility, a way of life and a higher calling that only 1% of our citizens choose to follow. A top-notch fighting force composed of dedicated and strong men who are the very best at what they do is what defines our armed forces—and the Rangers as among their best. Let’s not destroy this small but incredibly important culture under the banner of “me.”
Update: Various senators and congressmen weigh in on the emperor’s latest edict ~ Immigration shift sparks reaction from both sides.
Grateful that Sen. Jim DeMint is on the right side as usual:
“We have debated this same type of amnesty numerous times in the last decade, and each time the American people rejected it and demanded border security and a better legal immigration system. The President’s actions trample on the rule of law and remind voters of why he should be defeated in November.”

Shamnesty??!! 😯
The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.
Is President Obama a fool? A liar? Or just an outrageously arrogant tyrant?!
Unbelievable. Especially when you consider that just fifteen short months ago (March 2011) he was answering questions from students about deportations of young, school-age illegal immigrants, saying that immigration laws were passed by Congress and that only the judiciary could interpret them: [Thanks to CNS News for pulling this out of the archives so fast!]
“America is a nation of laws, which means I, as the president, am obligated to enforce the law. I don’t have a choice about that. That’s part of my job,” Obama said in March 2011 at a town hall event hosted by the Spanish-language television network Univision.
“Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws,” he said.
June 15, 2012: “Just kidding!!!”
This line from the Declaration of Independence suddenly seems awfully appropriate:
“A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”
“The prosperity of commerce is now perceived and acknowledged by all enlightened statesmen to be the most useful as well as the most productive source of national wealth, and has accordingly become a primary object of its political cares.”
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 12, 27 November 1787
Let’s face it, most of us tend to compartmentalize our lives. Church is for Sunday mornings; an hour or two and we’re good-to-go. And work, well that’s just something we gotta do to pay the bills, get more stuff and relax on the weekends. [Guilty!]
But maybe we should be looking at the bigger picture…
In “How Now Shall We Live?” Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcey make the point that Christianity is a worldview that should encompass every part of our lives. When it comes to work, scripture teaches us that all honest labor is a form of serving God, and living according to His plan for us:
In the opening chapters of Genesis, we learn that human beings were made in the image of God, to reflect His character; therefore, we are called to reflect His creative activity through our own creativity – by cultivating the world, drawing out its potential, and giving it shape and form. All work has dignity as an expression of the divine image.
The following video, from the High Calling is a wonderful reminder that, rather than regarding our jobs and chores as a daily grind, we should realize that all legitimate forms of labor are really ways in which we’re serving God.
Rudy concludes with this:
It think it’s mostly about God; doing it for Him. Keeping the place manicured so whenever He looks down and says, “Wow, man, that’s a nice place down there. I wonder who takes care of it.” You know what I mean? I guess that’s why He put me here, you know. I mean I think that the reason He made me was He knew that, I guess, I was going to be working up there, and He thought, “Well, he’s going to do a good job of having the place look nice and not run down to the ground.” You know what I mean?
Intent on making sure he’s understood Rudy asks “You know what I mean?” quite frequently. Yes Rudy, I know exactly what you mean. Thank-you for reminding me.

Johnny Cash and “Ragged Old Flag”:
Flag Day – at Holiday Insights ~ Everything you need to know about “Old Glory’s” history and the proper way to fly the flag… with respect.
In April, Father Andrew Kemberling (St. Thomas More Church, Centennial, CO) was invited to lead the opening prayer at the 2012 Colorado Republican State Assembly and Convention at the University of Denver.
As he explains, the moral challenges facing our country are not caused by political affiliation, but rather by attacks on religious freedom. Christians must stand together in support of our God-given rights.
(the) biblical understanding of marriage… is an issue between democracy and socialism.
As a Catholic, I earned a free pass to talk about socialism – because others who have stood with us have died at the hands of socialists for the past two centuries.
Whenever we have our religious liberties stopped, it is a hallmark of socialism – which is never compatible with Christianity.
Christianity recognizes personal choice and private property as inalienable rights given to us by God. Socialism, totalitarianism, communism, statism – whatever we want to call this latest incarnation of governmental assault on liberty – do not. These morally bankrupt philosophies are all, at their core, antithetical to Christianity. Their adherents simply don’t accept biblical truth.
Father Andrew concluded with these words ~
Join this fight against the threat of religious liberty. If we do not stand up and be counted at this time we know the price that has to be paid.
Let freedom ring!
AMEN!
We live in a Democracy, or republic, in this country
which was born out of the Judeo-Christian base.
The freedom that gives is increasingly rare in the world today.
We must certainly use this freedom while we still have it.

Chen Guangcheng has been in the news frequently over the last couple of months, both prior to and since his release from China. He’s now living in New York where he plans to study law at New York University, but he remains very concerned for the safety of family members left behind.
What did Chen do to incur the wrath of the Chinese government? Take a stand against the coercive enforcement of their “One Child Policy.” As Women’s Rights Without Frontiers explains;
Blinded by a childhood illness, Chen taught himself law and at first advocated for the rights of the disabled. The Chinese Communist Party ignored him until he began to advocate for the rights of women who were victims of the massive, systematic use of forced abortion and sterilization in his city – Linyi. Chen bravely filed a class action lawsuit on (the women’s) behalf, and that’s when all hell broke loose for him and his family.
He was arrested in 2005 and for four years and three months, jailed, tortured and denied medical treatment.
Of course you’d be hard-pressed to discover this side of Chen’s story in any of the mainstream news sources. Their standard label for him is human rights activist. But what Chen really is, is an activist for the human right to reproduce. And if anyone needs such a champion, it’s the women of China.
For three decades now the Communist Party has been enforcing its brutal one-child law. Robert Zubrin at the Washington Times reviews the history of this atrocious policy, based on pseudo-science and rooted in despotism:
n June 1978, Song Jian, a top-level manager in charge of developing control systems for the Chinese guided-missile program, traveled to Helsinki for an international conference on control-system theory and design. While in Finland, he picked up copies of “The Limits to GrowthandBlueprint for Survival”- publications of the Club of Rome, a major source of Malthusian propaganda – and made the acquaintance of several Europeans who were promoting the report’s method of using computerized “systems analysis” to predict and design the human future.
Fascinated by the possibilities, Mr. Song returned to China and republished the Club’s analysis under his own name (without attribution), establishing his reputation for brilliant and original thinking. In no time at all, Mr. Song became a scientific superstar. Seizing the moment to grasp for greater power and importance, he pulled together an elite group of mathematicians from within his department and, with the help of a powerful computer to provide the necessary special effects, issued the profoundly calculated judgment that China’s “correct” population size was 650 million to 700 million people – which is to say, some 280 million to 330 million less than its actual 1978 population.
Mr. Song’s analysis quickly found favor at top levels of the Chinese Communist Party because it purported to prove that the reason for China’s continued poverty was not 30 years of disastrous misrule, but the very existence of the Chinese people. Paramount leader Deng Xiaoping and his fellows in the Central Committee were very impressed by the pseudo-scientific computer babble Mr. Song used to dress up his theory and even more impressed by the possibilities that arrogating the power to permit or deny children would provide to the state.
Thus began the most forceful population-control program since Nazi Germany. Qian Xinzhong, a Soviet-trained former major general in the People’s Liberation Army, was placed in charge of the campaign. He ordered all women with one child to have a stainless steel IUD inserted and to be inspected regularly to make sure they had not tampered with it. To remove the device was deemed a criminal act. All parents with two or more children were to be sterilized. No pregnancies were legal for anyone under 23, whether married or not, and all unauthorized pregnancies were to be aborted.
This horrific policy, as Women’s Rights Without Frontiers reports:
(Affects) 1.3 billion people… (and) causes more violence against women and girls than any other official policy on earth and any other official policy in the history of the world ~
1. Forced abortion is traumatic to women. This can happen up to the ninth month of pregnancy. Some forced abortions are so violent that the women themselves die, along with their full term babies.
2. Women who have violated the policy are often victims of forced sterilization, which can lead to life-long health complications. These forced abortions and forced sterilizations are often performed without anesthesia.
3. A document leaked out of China in November 2009 discusses methods of infanticide, including the puncturing of the skulls and injecting alcohol into the brains of full term babies, usually girls, to kill them during labor. [the death toll now exceeds more than 100 million girls]
4. Because of the traditional preference for boys, sex-selective abortion of girls is common — a form of “gendercide.”
5. Because of this gendercide, there are an estimated 37 million more men than women in China today. This gender imbalance is a major force driving sexual slavery of women and girls in Asia.
6. China has the highest female suicide rate of any country in the world – approximately 500 women a day. It’s very likely that this high suicide rate is related to forced abortion.
Because this ongoing tragedy is largely ignored by the MSM, most Americans aren’t even aware that this brutal “One Child Policy” is still being enforced in many parts of China. Yet LifeNews.com just reported this story today: Chinese Woman Seven Months Pregnant Beaten, Forcibly Aborted (WARNING – graphic image).
Unbelievable! We need to support organizations like Women’s Rights Without Frontiers and ChinaAid (an international non-profit Christian human rights organization committed to promoting religious freedom and the rule of law in China) in their efforts to raise awareness and help end this barbaric policy.

I was so caught up in the horrors of this story I almost forgot to mention this recent related nightmare: South Korean Customs Officials Intercept 17,000 Pills Filled With Powdered Baby Flesh From China. The Blaze has the outrageous story ~
Since last August, customs officials in South Korea say they have intercepted between 17,000 and 17,500 pills filled with finely-ground human baby flesh, which is said to be both a stamina-enhancer and medical panacea in parts of Asia…
Even more horrifying, if possible, some are reporting that it may not have only been aborted or stillborn babies used in the pills– it‘s possible that some were born and left to die in China’s “dying rooms” before being ground for the capsules, because they were born into families that already had one child.
Reports say the South Koreans are unwilling to press the issue for fear of creating a diplomatic rift with China, instead preferring to let Chinese officials investigate and take any necessary action. 😯
Yeah, that’s gonna happen!
… But 5 year-old kindergarten student grabs a much bigger audience on Monday morning’s “Fox & Friends” – HA! From Fox News Insider:
One New York school principal has banned a kindergarten class from singing Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” at their graduation ceremony, and instead is allowing the five-year-olds to sing Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” The principal says that “God Bless the USA” is too grown up for the kids!
Luz Lozada, one of the parents upset by this move, joined Fox and Friends this morning and brought along her adorable kindergartener, Daniel Mitchell. Lozada said it’s been a confusing situation because “Justin Bieber’s song is for teenage love and that’s worse than singing ‘God Bless the USA.’”
Lee Greenwood also spoke out on Fox and Friends saying that he believes that the principal’s own religious beliefs and her inability to salute the flag might be at the center of the case…
The interview took a turn for the cute when Daniel started belting out the words to “God Bless the USA.”
“A lot of people fought to move to America to live freely, so that song should be sung with a whole lot of pride,” said Daniel’s mom.

Two hundred and sixty years ago Benjamin Franklin was testing his theory of the “sameness” of lightning and electrical matter. But on that long-ago summer day, not only did America’s Renaissance Man discover a new source of energy, he was unknowingly advancing the cause of freedom ~

In June 1752 Franklin sent a kite flying into a thunderstorm,
And discovered a way to harness lightning.
Ben’s experiment made him famous in Europe;
The French were particularly enamored with him.
Twenty-four years later the colonists’ fight against England was becoming desperate…
And Benjamin Franklin was sent to France to enlist support.
French crowds followed the world-famous scientist and philosopher wherever he went. Capitalizing on his popularity, Franklin nudged the country into aiding the Patriots’ cause.
And without this help from France…
it’s entirely possible that the war would have been lost at Yorktown,
and the American Revolution would never have succeeded!

Moral of the story: Make the most of your God-given talents in every endeavor; Eventually the seeds you have sown will bear fruit.

My eighty-something mother-in-law and I attended the “Stand Up For Religious Freedom” rally in downtown Detroit on Friday, June 8th. Happy to join forces with tens of thousands of others, in over 150 cities across the country.
Here are a few pix from our event:

Attendance in Detroit was roughly 1750
Saw several “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” signs in the crowd. Lots of Pro-Lifers too. 🙂
This little guy looked pretty serious about defending his 1st Amendment rights!

This just in from Russia Today ~
Somali Islamists offer a bounty of 10 camels for Barack Obama.
In response to the US State Department’s offer of up to $33 million for help in catching the leaders of Shabab – a radical Islamist group which controls much of Somalia – the terrorists have made a counter-proposal; a reward of 10 camels for the capture of President Obama.
Apparently, the Koran mentions an incident where a bounty of 100 camels was offered on the prophet Mohammed. The US President was then priced at one tenth of that.
A reward has also been announced for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Not surprisingly, considering the second-class citizen status of women in Muslim countries, they’ve set that value slightly lower. Madam Secretary will only fetch “10 hens and 10 roosters.”
