D-Day June 6, 1944

Recycling this post from 2011 in honor of D-Day.
Sixty-nine years ago America stood for truth, justice and freedom – not hopeless change and empty rhetoric.
Remembering the courageous sacrifice of so many…

Here’s a good post by Flopping Aces which re-caps of the D-Day Invasion, and stresses the importance of preserving the truth in history – both good and bad – so progressive media-types can’t rewrite it.

And Ronald Reagan on 6-6-84, the 40th anniversary of D-Day – reminding us that we were right to be proud of what all those brave men accomplished on that day, and for all the good that America stood for. Listen and remember:

Government Gone Rogue

Up-dated ~ June 6, 2013 @ 3:30 p.m.

Andrew C. McCarthy, who tends to be knowledgeable – and therefore reliable – on all things Islamic, i.e. terrorism, says we shouldn’t panic yet; Phone Record Gathering Story Blown Out of Proportion.
But he does get to the heart of the matter ~

(It is) critical to have a trustworthy president and administration – including an attorney general Congress can trust to provide truthful, accurate and complete information. It is not unreasonable to conclude that the Obama administration – with its serial lawlessness, authoritarian abuses of power to harass dissenters, and pattern of misleading and stonewalling Congress – has so grossly violated the public trust that it is unfit to exercise the executive’s awesome investigative authorities.

In this case, where national security is critical;

The problem here is not government power. It is the government officials we’ve elected to wield it.

Original post ~ June 6, 2013

What’s it going to take to get America off the couch? One scandal after another and we just roll over and change the channel.

The latest news – NSA collecting phone records of millions of Verizon customers daily: Top secret court order requiring Verizon to hand over all call data from April 25 to July 19 (UK Guardian exclusive) – would have a vigilant citizenry up in arms.

Shouldn’t we be even slightly concerned when, as Tim Stanley at the UK Telegraph puts it; Barack Obama’s national security state is now beyond democratic control?

Those crazy American conspiracy theorists who live up trees with guns and drink their own pee don’t seem quite so crazy anymore.

It turns out that a “secret court order” has empowered the US government to collect the phone records of millions of users of Verizon, one of the most popular telephone providers – a massive domestic surveillance programme and a shocking intrusion into the lives of others. For the first time in history, being an AT&T customer doesn’t seem such a bad thing after all…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few observations. First, America is so conscious and proud of its history as a beacon of liberty that it often overlooks the tyranny that occurs on its own shores in the name of safeguarding democracy. The national security state has expanded to the point whereby it now functions outside of democratic control and with clear disregard for the Constitution. What’s especially creepy about this case is that the state felt no legal obligation to tell citizens that it was spying on them – or at least considering it. The result is a disturbing paradox: it’s legal to collect information from companies but illegal for the companies to try to tell their customers about it. It seems that the law prefers to take the side of the state.
Second, you get what you vote for – and both Republicans and Democrats keep on voting for authoritarians…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Finally, totaling every scandal up – IRS, AP phone records, Fox journalists being targeted, the Benghazi mess – this has to be the most furtively authoritarian White House since Nixon’s. We don’t yet have a “smoking email” from Obama ordering all of this, but it can’t be said often enough that there is a correlation between Obama’s “progressive” domestic agenda and the misbehavior of the other agencies governed by his administration – forcing people to buy healthcare even when they can’t afford it, bailing out the banks, war in Libya and the use of drone strikes to kill US citizens.

This is exactly what the Tea Party was founded to expose and oppose. All the laughter once directed at the “paranoid” Right now rings hollow.

Americans better ditch the remote and become just remotely concerned about their disappearing freedoms – before they roll over and discover they’re all gone.

The Wicked Witch of HHS

Ethically speaking, this situation is a tough one…

Via CNS News ~

Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Tuesday that she would not intervene in a decision that bars a 10-year-old girl – given just weeks to live – from getting a lung transplant.

During a House hearing on HHS’ FY 2014 budget request, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) urged Sebelius to intervene in the case of Sarah Murnaghan, who suffers from cystic fibrosis and could die within weeks without a lung transplant, but is considered too young for one according to rules adopted in 2005 by transplant doctors.

I’m really not sure what the right decision is here (rules… exceptions… we need Solomon’s wisdom for this one) – heart-wrenching.

But I do know that Sebelius’ attitude as the self-appointed Goddess of Organ Transplants is stunningly callous ~

Bearing false witness – no longer “immoral”

In this week’s episode of “Disorder in the Courtroom,”
we learn that mis-representing yourself to a prospective
employer is perfectly OK in Ohio.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you heard about this story in the last day or two it was no doubt trumpeted as; “Ohio teacher fired for becoming pregnant wins suit against Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati.” WOO-HOO! huh? Well, not quite.
Gail Finke at the Catholic Exchange reports on the truth behind the headlines in her article: Faith Under Fire; A Despicable Victory Over Religious Rights in America ~
Here’s the story in a nutshell: Christa Dias, a lesbian who hid her partnership with another woman from the schools who employed her because she knew it would violate the morals clause of her employment contract, says she did not know that the Catholic Church considers artificial insemination to be immoral and so she was shocked — shocked! – to find herself without a job after announcing that she was expecting a baby.
She sued the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for discrimination, saying she was fired for being pregnant, and on Monday a jury agreed. They awarded her $171,000, a cool $100 grand of it for punitive damages…
It’s a story because it’s about sex and religion. A pretty young woman has a sweet little baby, how can that be wrong? So she’s a lesbian and she lied about that — who cares in this day and age, except the mean old Catholic Church that just wants to oppress women and stop them from having sex with whoever they want to, whenever they want to? So she violated her contract — who cares about that either, as long as the contract is with anyone connected with the Catholic Church and concerns sexual morality?
According to a Washington Post article (incidentally, one of the few mainstream news sources who treated this story with equanimity), it does appear likely that the archdiocese will appeal the decision, most probably over the definition of “ministerial employee” ~
The archdiocese argued before trial that Dias, who was a computer technology teacher, was a “ministerial employee,” a position that has not been clearly defined by the courts…
The Supreme Court has said religious groups can dismiss those employees without government interference.
Dias told The Associated Press in a phone interview after the verdict that she was “very happy and relieved” with the outcome of the lawsuit she said she pursued for the sake of other women who might find themselves in a similar situation.
Ironically –
She said she also pursued it for “my daughter’s sake, so she knows it’s important to stand up for what’s right.” 😯
So what’s “right” these days is to misrepresent yourself, then scream “foul” when the consequences of your deception catches up with you.
Has the IRS become the Gestapo arm of the Federal Government?
Speaking on the House floor on May 21st, Tom McClintock (R-CA) revealed how truly disturbing the IRS scandal really is, detailing cases of personal intimidation ~
“Ve vont names!”
Threatening a non-profit organization that teaches teens Constitutional principles? Seriously?!
Is is against the law to teach the Constitution now? What country are we living in?
Has the progressive left become so truly evil that they actually support a totalitarian system that suppresses all political opposition with intimidation and threats?
“… this strikes at the very foundation of a free society, the rule of law, the right of the people to question the policies of their government without fear of retribution or intimidation.”
~ Rep. Tom McClintock ~
If those responsible are not held to account for the tyrannical tactics of the Internal Revenue Service under this administration, it will have chilling implications for our freedoms – particularly those under the first amendment. Indeed, it will have chilling implications for the very future of America.
Saturday Shorts – 6-1-13
Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:
Story Ideas for a Press Turning Against Obama ~ William Tucker at the American Spectator with some suggested topics for msm reporters who may finally be waking up to the Truth – in light of the AP scandal and DOJ’s targeting of James Rosen – starting with the “Obama administration’s energy adventures.”
A couple more eulogies for the BSA ~ Satan wins back the scouts (carrying on the Greco-Roman-Nazi tradition) and ~ To the Boy Scouts and Others – Warning: Reality is Not Politically Correct
God wants so much more for all of us.
Lois Lerner: Accessory to Terror Funding ~ While bringing the full force of the federal government to bear on the Tea Party, Christian organizations and others, the IRS practically fell all over itself to approve status for the Barack H. Obama Foundation (BHOF) headed by the President’s half-brother Malik.
And oops – look at that: Malik Obama is in bed with a few Islamic terrorists; apparently he’s a senior leader in terror organizations that supply funding and comfort to Al Qaeda.
And the IRS wanted to know what sort of prayers were said at Tea Party meetings?!
However, elections have consequences right? ~
Walter Williams: ‘Americans deserve the IRS’ ~ We need to face the reality that most of our fellow Americans now want the government to take stuff from one person and give it to another person – by force. November’s election was a ringing endorsement for legalized theft.
…when God gave Moses the commandment ‘Thou shalt not steal,’ he did not mean ‘thou shalt not steal unless you got a majority vote in Congress.’ ~ Walter Williams
‘Stupid Bible-Thumping…B**ch’: Bakery That Refused to Make Gay Couple’s Wedding Cake Speaks Out Amid Threats, Economic Woes ~ The hateful INtolerance of the LGBT activists; harrassing, obscene phone calls and “economic terrorism.”
Western Cultural Suicide ~ Victor Davis Hanson at National Review Online. Immigrants, aided by culturally-insecure native-born westerners, are rapidly helping destroy what they ostensibly came for; freedom to achieve, equal opportunity and equal rights under the law.
Intriguing question to pose to your favorite leftist:
Has anyone ever heard an immigration activist, as part of his argument for amnesty, explain why so many Mexicans do not like living in Mexico and must leave their homeland, or, alternatively, why the United States is such an attractive alternative that it demands such existential risks to reach it?
How strange that most of the elites who resent ideas like the melting pot and assimilation are often those who most successfully have abandoned the protocols of the way life is lived in Mexico.
Founding Wisdom [Flouted by the Foolish]
“History affords us many instances of the ruin of states, by the prosecution of measures ill suited to the temper and genius of their people. The ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy. An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part is entitled to, and ought to enjoy…
These measures never fail to create great and violent jealousies and animosities between the people favored and the people oppressed; whence a total separation of affections, interests, political obligations, and all manner of connections, by which the whole state is weakened.”
Middle East Troops Honored with Memorial
Who knew? I didn’t [Big hat-tip to UncleGlenn!]. The military men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the Middle East Conflicts have their own memorial in Marseilles, IL ~
On June 19th, 2004 a Granite Memorial Wall was dedicated commemorating the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in worldwide conflicts since 1979. The project was conceived by Jerry Kuczera and Tony Cutrano and built with donated material and labor and is the first of its kind, in the History of the United States, to give honor to our fallen by name while a conflict is ongoing.
It took 20 years to Honor our Vietnam Veterans. Almost 60 years to Honor our World War II Veterans. The names on the wall represent our fallen heroes from such diverse locations as Panama, Lebanon, the Balkans, Grenada, Somalia, Haiti, USS Cole, USS Stark, Terrorist attacks in Italy, Greece, Scotland, and the current conflicts in the Middle East.
The website for the memorial includes a list of all the names inscribed on the wall.
Marseilles is about 35 miles south-west of Chicago on the Illinois River. You might want to include a visit in your summer vacation plans.
Maybe even jump on your bike and head over to the annual fundraiser on June 15th: Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run.
Deliver us from Evil
Growing up I used to believe that some scriptural phenomenon were just part of the Biblical version of the olden days – nothing to worry about in “modern” times. Persecution for example. Since the Romans were long gone, there didn’t seem to be much of a threat. Certainly no one was in any imminent danger of being thrown to the lions.
Jesus’ words in John 15:18: “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you,” sure didn’t seem to apply in the 20th century. After all, who hated Christians?
Boy was I ever young, naïve, and uneducated.
In the last several decades mankind has certainly made up for lost time – developing whole new ways to persecute God’s people.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I used to think the same thing about exorcism. I mean no one believes that old stuff about casting out demons anymore – well, maybe Hollywood, when they need a really creepy-scary plot. Actually that classic head-spinner, “The Exorcist,” wasn’t Tinsel Town fiction, it was based on an entirely true story.

There really are exorcists. And lately they’ve really been busy.

The National Catholic Register reported on a Catholic Renewal convention held last year in Anaheim, CA which featured several exorcism experts as speakers ~

“There is a greater need for exorcism because there is a greater frequency of the practices of the occult, New Age and Satanism, both on the part of Catholics and other people alike,” (Fr. Gary Thomas, Sacred Heart Church, Saratoga, CA) said.
Conference speakers explained that people begin experimenting with other traditions and rituals, often simply out of curiosity. They don’t realize that they are, at the same time, losing their spiritual center and turning away from God.

The exorcists were quick to clarify though, that most of the people who come to see them are not necessarily possessed ~

“Spiritually speaking, they don’t need an exorcist. They need their parish priest; they need a spiritual director,” (Father Jeffrey Grob, exorcist for the Archdiocese of Chicago) said. “They need someone who will get them back in the practice of their faith — bring them back to reality.”

[Deliverance perhaps?]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Father Gabriele Amorth, the Catholic Church’s chief exorcist (and author of “An Exorcist Tells his Story”), does see a growing need for exorcisms, and wants Pope Francis to allow all priests to start performing the ritual ~
Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists, told The Sunday Times that he will ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church’s approval. According to the report, priests currently need special approval from their bishop to perform the rite and it is rarely granted.
“I will ask the pope to give all priests the power to carry out exorcisms, and to ensure priests are properly trained for these starting with the seminary. There’s a huge demand for them.”
In his ’99 book Fr. Amorth explained why he believes this to be the case ~
Even if this battle against Satan concerns all men and all times, there is no doubt that Satan’s power is felt more keenly in periods of history when the sinfulness of the community is more evident. For example, when I view the decadence of the Roman Empire, I can see the moral disintegration of that period in history. Now we are at the same level of decadence, partly as a result of the misuse of the mass media (which are not evil in themselves) and partly because of Western consumerism and materialism, which have poisoned our society.
Persecution and possession…
Not to mention moral decay and the breakdown of civil society – Is there any doubt that the devil and his evil influence is rapidly gaining ground these days?
We who Believe, are comforted knowing how the story finally ends. But getting there may not exactly be a walk in the park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“The battle against the devil, which is the principal task of Saint Michael
the archangel, is still being fought today, because the devil is still alive
and active in the world. The evil that surrounds us today, the disorders that
plague our society, man’s inconsistency and brokenness, are not only the
results of original sin, but also the result of Satan’s pervasive
and dark action.”

~ Pope John Paul II – 1987 ~

Cowering in Place

Drummer Rigby’s murder by an Islamist lunatic in the streets of London last week was horrific enough in itself, but the eerie reaction of the bystanders made it doubly so. Just because this neighborhood is named “Woolwich” must its residents behave like a flock of sheep?!

Mark Steyn aptly captured the episode’s sense of surrealism: Bystanders in their own fate ~

… there is a disturbing passivity to this scene: a street full of able-bodied citizens being lectured to by blood-soaked murderers who have no fear that anyone will be minded to interrupt their diatribes. In fairness to the people of Boston, they were ordered to “shelter in place” by the Governor of Massachusetts. In Woolwich, a large crowd of Londoners apparently volunteered to “shelter in place,” instinctively…

…(The crowd’s passivity set the tone for what followed. In London as in Boston, the politico-media class immediately lapsed into the pneumatic multiculti Tourette’s that seems to be a chronic side-effect of excess diversity-celebrating: No Islam to see here, nothing to do with Islam, all these body parts in the street are a deplorable misinterpretation of Islam.

It seems the behavior of Woolwich flock is not that atypical in London these days. They’ve been conditioned into complacency by that bane of Western civilization; multi-culturalism. And unfortunately the phenomenon is spreading.

Steyn’s article continues ~

For the past week, Stockholm has been ablaze every night with hundreds of burning cars set alight by “youths.” Any particular kind of “youth”? The Swedish Prime Minister declined to identify them any more precisely than as “hooligans.” But don’t worry: The “hooligans” and “youths” and men of no Muslim appearance whatsoever can never win because, as (Prime Minister) David Cameron ringingly declared, “they can never beat the values we hold dear, the belief in freedom, in democracy, in free speech, in our British values, Western values.” 😯

Actually, they’ve already gone quite a way toward eroding free speech, as both Prime Ministers demonstrate. The short version of what happened in Woolwich is that two Muslims butchered a British soldier in the name of Islam and helpfully explained, “The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day.” But what do they know? They’re only Muslims, not Diversity Outreach Coordinators.

Hard to believe the Woolwichers are descended from not just Richard the Lion-Heart and the Crusaders – but from a people who stood up to the Nazis just a few short decades ago. Now they cower in the face of the religion-that-must-not-be-named.

Glenn Beck was a bit less sanguine than Steyn in his assessment of the tragedy ~

Saturday Shorts – 5-25-13

Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

The 2013 Moore Oklahoma Tornado – a synopsis ~ An informative, non-politicized analysis of the May 20th storm ~
Unfortunately, EF-5 tornadoes occur only too frequently. This latest is the 59th recorded since 1950, so on average about one every year.
Sadly, Loony Left California Senator Barbara Boxer can’t be bothered by the facts ~ Boxer blames tornadoes on global warming — Plugs her carbon tax bill to fix bad weather. Sure thing Babs. If we just pay higher taxes, we can appease the weather gods.

Why the IRS Went After the Tea Party Instead of Establishment Republicans ~ Well duh. They know the GOP is impotent. Why waste ammo.
Still, as Craig Shirley at Breitbart ponders ~

Many questions are begged. Did outside liberal groups conspire with the IRS against the Tea Party? Did Republican Establishment types conspire with the IRS to censor the Tea Party? If so, how high up did the conspiracy go inside the two major parties, both of which had something to gain with the marginalization and/or destruction of the Tea Party movement?

As far as the Tea Party and it sympathizers are concerned, nearly everybody in Washington is a suspect. The Tea Party has found the enemy, and it is the Washington Establishment.

Black Panther, Mikhail Shareef Muhammad, Who Offered Bounty For “Dead or Alive” Zimmerman Arrested in Jacksonville For “False Imprisonment” ~ File under “Shocking Developments.” Lawless is as lawless does.

California to ban fire (editorial) – Enjoying the pleasures of life is just not good for you ~ Devolution.
10,000 B.C. – humans discover fire; 2013 A.D. – humans outlaw fire.

Man’s taming of fire enabled him to cook his food, bring light to the darkness, make stronger tools and survive the harshest of winters. It’s the one discovery upon which all civilizations are built.
The assault on bonfires, fireplaces and stoves undermines one of the cornerstones of society. It’s what happens when government gets big enough to snuff out man’s greatest achievement.

And this while many Europeans actually seem to be waking up to the climate change ruse ~ Green Energy: The worm turns.

When did we vote to become Mexico? Ann Coulter at her best ~

Why can’t the country be more or less the ethnic composition that it always was? The 50-1 Latin American-to-European ratio isn’t a natural phenomenon that might result from, say, Europeans losing interest in coming here and poor Latin Americans providing some unique skill desperately needed in our modern, technology-based economy…

… Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 Immigration Act was designed to artificially inflate the number of immigrants from the Third World, while making it virtually impossible for anyone from the nations that historically provided our immigrants to come here.

Heroism, Humility and Leadership:The Janitor and the Medal of Honor ~ Wonderful true-life story for Memorial Day by Mark Alexander at the Patriot Post.
